About the Intel issue, check Tech YES's video. He says it's actually (well, most likely, not confirmed nor guaranteed) an issue with the kind-of-I/O part of the chip that Intel have more separated since 12th gen. And that it explains multiple issues, not just the video memory one.
@@themodfather9382 Nvidia stock holder spotted, opinion disregarded

I have a video suggestion if want to correct an idea reviewers are pushing. If u still have your ryzen 5800 could u make a video of the 7800x3d and when the cpu bottlenecks the gpus in 4k. 95% of reviewers of cpus are not testing in 4k as traditionally the 4k framerates is too low that the choice of cpu wasnt important. From the little information i have found a ryzen 5000 series of cpu is bottlenecking a 4090 about 10% and also introduces stuttering. Is it about the same with a 4080 or 7900xtx? Reviewers need to wake up and start testing cpus properly as almost every reviewers are wrong about 4k....
Apple 2024: "8GB RAM is sufficient"
Apple 2025: "we're revolutionizing mobile computing by giving our MacBooks 12GB RAM"
How designers are getting by on 12gb of ram is crazy to me Edit: 8gb, even worse..., I use windows with 32gb and only chrome open and I still go into the pagefile while using photoshop. I'm upgrading to 64gb at the end of this month to stop using pagefile and burning my system ssd with tempfiles, lol.

When the RAM on a Mac device is filled, the extra data is sent to the ssd as a cache, using up the drive’s write cycles, wearing the device out faster. And don’t forget, the drive is either soldered or firmware keyed to the main board, so forget about replacing the drive; the only option is to buy a whole new device. So yes, 8Gb is suitable… for Apple.
Ssd cache is much slower than ram
@@bansheezs This is true. It’s not like the drives are that low-latency 3D crosspoint stuff intel put in its Optane products; Apple just uses standard NAND flash. Optane has such low latency and could take so many write cycles, intel made whole DIMMS composed of Optane packages, acting either as massive capacity RAM (up to 512Gb per stick) or as a tiered cache just below standard server RDIMMS. Including something like that with an Apple device might actually justify the infamous Apple storage upsell.
@@saberknight2474the drive actually is replacable but to do it would mean using bare fresh nand chips, whether soldered in with the soldered storage, or using custom slotted storage cards with the bare nands for the Studios and Pros. Obviously this is not an M.2 slot and it is silly Apple doesn't just support M.2 without thunderbolt and an adapter.
Isn't the bios firmware stored on that nand as well
have you ever experienced or know someone who experienced full ssd write cycle wear? not just a 1 in 10 thousand users on a blogpost. we're talking about terabytes of written data which a normal person doesn't ever come close to using up. even if you used 10gb of ram to ssd overflow DAILY, that's just about 2% of a typical 256gb ssd tbw used in a YEAR. my used 256gb sata ssd boot drive was still going strong at 80% used tbw after ~7 years until i replaced it with an nvme.
you're pissed off about the right thing, but for a wrong reason.
Battlemage isn't about performance, it's about price. If I get last gen performance AT A MUCH MORE REASONABLE PRICE, I'm ok with that. There are a lot of people out there who are just not willing to accept Nvidia/AMD prices anymore, people who will literally accept last gen GPU performance (assuming that the divers/compatibility and VIDEO MEMORY/BUS BANDWIDTH are adequate) if that performance is offered at prices that are more reasonable.
But the ARC GPU’s use more silicon than either Nvidia or AMD? So the cost of parts is higher - there is no cost advantage in ARC, just Intel buying market share.
So Battlemage may not be priced advantageously.
Additionally, typically $ per frame is skewed to AMD, even with Intel selling ARC for below cost. Yet you think AMD is too expensive? Is it just that you are happy to buy a “top tier” Intel card rather than a “mid tier” AMD card that out performs it?
Amd is already that budget dominator and if battlemage takes too long to release people will just buy amd instead. He was talking about the release date not the specs of the card
@@EdDale44135those are the issues with alchemist, we still need battlemage to be released before even making assumptions, even if they only compete in midrange, that's still is the largest segment on pc gaming, and also the segment where amd does compete with their pricing, as many issues alchemist still has, they already did things better than amd for dedicated hardware and software wise, they also release driver updates quicker than amd in the last year, so as long as they get a card that can perform decent in it's price segment, it is a viable option
Regardless of pricing hardly anyone will buy them unfortunately. To all the people talking about battlemage actions speak louder than words.
Does anyone think that the 5060 is going to cost anything less than 500 USD, does anyone expect it to have any more than 8GB V-Ram... You're telling me that if Intel comes out with a card that performs about on par, cost $450 USD, and has 16GB V-Ram no one will be interested...
I'll stick with the three eight pin connectors for as long as I can. I had a vehicle that had three flat tires because three of the valves that report tire pressure cracked, and failed, causing the air to blow out. I decided to switch back to regular old school valves in that vehicle. During the switch, they found three of the four were in the process of cracking, and would eventually blow out again. Each of those sensors were over a hundred dollars US too. I had to ignore a low pressure light from then on, but I had no more flats. What's the point of a warning system that is by far the highest failure point. I've had other vehicles without that issue, but that particular model was bad. I guess my point is that new doesn't always mean better.
Go on producing this awesome content. You always put huge amounts of effort in your videos👍

What’s cool about Slay The Spire 2 is it is being made using the open source Godot game engine, after the developers dumped Unity following their install fee debacle last year.
Is unity dead?
@@visitante-pc5zc it might as well be. They will never be able to live that ridiculous stunt down
@@visitante-pc5zc No, I don’t think so. They’ve rolled the runtime install fee back just enough to limit its effects, and enacted a more reasonable revenue-share model… and they’ve also sold off or shut down lot of their questionable acquisitions to reduce expenditure and focus on their core stuff - game engine, game services, and game ads.
Unity is still a really good engine for indies and smaller commercial teams - it’s more lightweight and flexible than Unreal but still pretty capable graphically, and it’s arguably a lot more professional and polished than Godot… but the corporates caused a lot of damage to their reputation and pissed a lot of customers off.
I mess about with all 3 engines by the way.
My fave was Godot 3 and I started several little 2D projects with it, but I found Godot 4 disappointing after the hype for its 3D capabilities, and I realised Unity would be better for what I wanted to do when starting to move into the third dimension.
I’ve never got far with Unreal… too complex and bloated for me, and too slow to compile even the simplest games. It’s really aimed at AAA stuff made by larger teams.
RTX4090 12pin connector is the manufacturer design fault. The manufacturer could have two of 12pin connectors instead of one, it will decrease amperage therefore temperature pressure.
The old design had 32 pins for 600w... how did they go from 32 to 12 and make them smaller?
@@themodfather9382 By removing all of that annoying "safety"
I have a 4770k and out of the blue I was getting a blue screen of death with VT..virtualization features...So i disabled microsoft hypervisor and I would still get the BSOD...so I disabled the Vt features of the CPU and the BSOD went away.
As for battlemage I think the rumors say it will be around the RTX 4070 performance...note the 4070 not the 4070 super or Super Ti....now if they offer that for around $299-349.99 it will sell well.
Shroud was doing a playtest on his stream yesterday, playing that new game Grey Zone Warfare and he kept crashing and ended up getting help from the game's devs to change SVID Behavior to intel fail safe.. and it actually worked.. this whole thing makes intel look super bad
Yeah, it's definitely a bad look for Intel. It's also amazing to me that people who stream and use their PC every day have no idea how to troubleshoot problems on their own PC. TechTube needs to do a much better job of teaching people how the bios works.
@@jjlw2378 why do you assume they have no idea how to trouble shoot? Shroud got help from the devs of the game so he could play and not waste time troubleshooting while 20k sits there and wait, he would probably just played a different game instead of troubleshooting, but not because he doesn't know how to do it himself.
Don't let Nvidia blame the costumers by claiming user error! They have released an insufficiently engineered product.
If Nvidia had released manufacturer guidelines for sufficient/correct applied connecting pressure or similar, they could claim user error. (But then it would not be a product suitable for the masses..)
A socket needs to ensure a good connection. If the design allows for users error than it is a failed design. Yes that is different for many products, but this is because in this case a solid and sufficient connection is the main purpose of the device!
I know you mentioned this, Daniel, but it really should be emphasized more, that the failures are on Nvidia! Not the consumer.
Additionally Nvidia is digging in their heels and pushing this bad connector on their customers.
They have released cards in the past that used more than 200 W and worked well with just using more 8-pin connectors. Now all their cards over 200 W come with this s**t connect
Edit: Would -> Would not
Too late, most people just cite Steve from Gamers Nexus who said it's people at fault, even tho the connector itself invites issues.
@@AccuaroSteve said that while the issues stem from improper installation, the connector is poorly designed because it is too easy to install improperly.
@@dex6316 These are just straight up lies... Even if it's only plugged in halfway, it should never melt the card.

200 melted connectors a month. Why is Nvidia not liable? Glad I went with AMD
I have this connector but not in 4090. I have 4070 Super so there is insufficient power to overheat the plug.
If AMD could control prices (greed of resellers fact) in Europe a bit more I would pick the RX 7900XT.
@@HanSolo__ Totally fair argument
@@MlnscBoo not so fair if you consider official 600w spec of new connector, while 4090 draws 450w in stock
@@rem_0 Well the 4070 will never hit 450w, but if the 4090 is melting the connector even at just(lol) 450w, that is also a bad deal. So good argument as well.
@@rem_0 I am limited to a 250mm length GPU, so I either choose a Zotac 4070 12GB OC with traditional 8pin, or a Inno3D 2x 4070Ti Super 16GB with the trouble maker... I am still thinking back and forth between them... Sigh...
German here - the prices are still ridiculous imo and in comparison Nvidia actually looks pretty good in many cases, because every price-difference is made up with significantly better efficiency. (electro juice is still not cheap here)
So i grabbed a 4060 for 275€ in fall last year and over the whole March i have seen a discount campaign for Asus' AMD cards, for an up to 100€ price reduction. 7700XT and 7800XT got -80€ and were available for around 370€ and 460€ respectively. So the current prices are nowhere near as low as they were in the past here and there and it really looks like many of those cards are sitting in the shelves like birds on a roof.
Im actually more surprised they seemingly still sell well enough in the US that they dont have to cut prices as much.

I have a 14600KF and a MSI motherboard. When I first ran my PC (was new out of the box) my CPU was thermal throttling pretty easily when doing stuff(like games, MechWarrior 5). I updated the BIOS and the CPU was no longer close to thermal throttling in gaming and in Cinebench it scored better.
I do get the checkerboard corruption when I use chrome, specifically when i first load up a page or switch to a different tab. It only lasts a second or less and then is gone. Does not always do this, just sometimes, like after I turn my computer on (seems to be where it happens most).
This bothers me a ton cause like wtf.
@@erikbritz8095that simple means in a few years, his pc will simply refuse to turn on and he'll find his cpu fried
These two bullet points are unrelated issues, just bundled into one screenshot for no apparent reason. The checkerboard issue is specifically for nvidia gpus in pcs using chromium browsers on windows (CPU is not a factor). The second bullet point was what the article was actually referencing - relating to 13th and 14th gen intel chips.
13600k I limited ICCmax to 260A and all problems went away. Fully stable with 24/7 OC on Prime Z790A. IMHO cpus are fine - it's Bios 'default' settings messing stability.

I am having checkerboard issues for months now in CZcams and Chrome and was worried may be hardware or graphics driver but now that I see this video it must be those windows updates.
My case doesn’t have room to connect it without it bending from far enough away from the connector itself. It’d stick out of my case by almost an inch.
Both of my 4090's haven't had any issues i've had them since launch. Have constantly swapped them out on test benches and between builds and have used tons of different native 12vhpwr cables from sketchy Link Up Amazon cables to Cablemod.
The angled cables have been a godsend and actually the current one from linkup i'm using I did a 6 hour 600 watt stress test with it and it held up. Now the adapters I have always known they were a stupid idea, glad cablemod put a recall out for them. I wouldn't use Derbauer's either that shows voltage and powerdraw or whatever. That much power and heat running through a tiny tiny PCB is just not a good idea!
It's definitely a bad design, mixed with user error. The trick is to gently push holding the end of the cables left to right, left to right. And do the same to pull it out. Wiggle left to right very gently and it comes out nice and easy.
Anytime I swap out a 12vhpwr, I use an electronic blower and make sure there is no residing dust inside on the pins and on the 12vhpwr cable, both ends. Used to use compressed air cans too until I got tired of buying compressed air cans haha 😀
I got the MSI suprim x 4090 liquid when it came out, Been running AI Prompt-Img 500 samples. Gpu is amazing and I have not had issues "knock on wood". Of course I built a new rig when I heard about the 4090 so I went with a corsair 1000D case I will never run out of room.
I cannot get my 12vhpwr original cable ( Corsair RM1200X Shift ) out of my Asus RTX 4090 TUF OC and I get no display 😢
It feels like it has burnt in.

I had the video memory error on my 13700k in Remnant 2 and Robocop (UE5). I can either go back 200mhz on the P-Cores or raise the LLC voltage a little bit to take care of the issue. LLC raise the voltage on the CPU when the load comes on, it seems the CPU doesn't like going from a standstill to full tilt on all cores compiling shaders in a microsecond. Eventually I went with LLC and it seems to have taken care of the issue completely.
Hopefully others are as lucky as I am and a bios update might fix the issue then.
Weird, I played the Robocop demo on my 13700k rig with no issues. Nowadays I have my cpu overclocked and never had an issue.

My system is a q6600. I have four gigs of ram. It's crazy to think that people that were born when my computer was built only use four gigs more than me.
I'm in the camp of people running into game stability issues, am on a 13700K and a 4070 Ti that I got just over a year ago. It had been nearly perfect until a few weeks ago, and now randomly I'll have issues getting games to launch (Horizon: Forbidden West has been the one giving me the most trouble, by far). Always happens at the same spot, upon hitting Continue and getting partway through the load. Sometimes I'll get the video memory error popup window, sometimes I don't (I am definitely not running out of video RAM; this happens even when the Texture Quality is set to the lowest it can go).
It's been pretty frustrating, and it doesn't help that there isn't yet a "here's exactly how to fix it" that's agreed on, much less an EASY fix that doesn't include changing a bunch of different, specific BIOS options.
I picked up a Corsair power cable for my 4090. It cost a little more but I’ve had zero issues as of now.

I've seen this issue on 13th gen laptops using Autodesk stuff. Workload runs fine on older desktop with worse specs...
20:00 As an SFF user I am not interested by this. It will be premium priced and it can never guaranteed to be continued. I had a single fan GTX 970 that was 17 cm long, my current GPU is three fan 33 cm long because no small GPU exists at the performance I am looking for unless I just remove all the cooler and make a small custom water cooling. Even then you have to re-do the waterblock everytime you get a new GPU which is not worth it. So for SFF, it's just better to stick to 10-15L size with common types of components (just moved from SFX to SFX-L PSU for instance) if you at all have any performance concerns.
Maybe i got blackscreens not due to my gpu (rx 7900 xtx - asrock phantom gaming) but due to my intel core i7 13700k? (When my gpu comes back from rma/repair, and it wasn't due to the displayport cable, which i just upgraded, then I will limit my cpu to 150W and 4300MHZ to 100% make sure it's not due to intel?) - It's already undervolted by -0.03V
I doubt it. I have a rx7900xtx ASRock Phantom too and had black screens too but on 5800x3d. Make sure to use good quality cable and drivers up to date. Update your monitor firmware if possible too.
Not, you have a trash GPU. Try 4080 and 4090.
@@Mervinion Monitor is 2x G27q, latest firmware, i just bought new dp cables. How did you fix your black screen issues? my gpu will arrive after 9 weeks rma/repair in 2 days. i hope it will work with the new gold plated 8k@120hz displayport 2.1 cables
@@ChrissyCode I didn't fix it. It just doesn't happen anymore. I just updated the drivers and tv firmware (LG C3). Two things that may change things is the fact that I put a water block on it and use HDMI, not DP. Do you overclock this GPU? If so, try using it stock. I found that any amount of OC on my GPU causes instability, crashes and occasional black screens.
@@Mervinion i got the repaired model, and figured it was due to the displayport cables.
Please make video about EKWB situation
I did it last year and got it for 800. The 7900xtx is a beast btw
i mean if u spend 2k on BEST gpu u dont want any problem with it. Just cant with youtubers keep defending one of the richest company in the world
Just checking to see if we're Awake, Huh Daniel? :)
Tech YES City has a few videos about this Intel issue.
I have bought 4090, what to do so my connector will not melt? ;/ Im scared
Pray
@@lifemocker85 :c
My first GPU was a 3dfx voodoo 3 3000 16mb SD ran card that's awesome to see
Brian from Tech YES City has done a good video on this issue, he has also been blacklisted by Intel over it.
I highly suggest to watch his video, but it seems to be a I/O issue which is mainly due to how Intel and it's chiplet design has been done, basically in layman's terms it's like an engine and a fuel pump, and the fuel pump can't maintain the engine, the engine will work but will cut out due to lack of fuel.
Even though I have a RX6600 I'm excited for the next Battlemage GPU and I think it's about price mostly if they can match AMDs mid range at a lower price and if they continue to improve drivers for older titles they will sell. And I hope we see far more 3rd party making them as well and ignore that Nvidia threat
Been using a 13900K with an EVGA Z690 Dark only OC is enabling XMP no issues in any games.
It's not just RTX 4090 power connectors that are melting. I had power connectors on my RTX 3090 (Suprim X) melt TWICE in the span of 3 years! Good thing they put spare connectors in the PSU box. Just like Intel, Nvidia are reckless with their power draw and are pushing their GPUs to the limits so that they can appear faster than they are. Thank god this didn't take out my GPU or other components. 🤬
Possibly the Arc segment at Intel is used as a tax benefit. Just an observation.
More and more sites are coming up with ways to mitigate the problem - and basically all of them are "Disable all those crappy auto-overclocks".
I have been saying this for years but Intel reeeaaalllyyyyy needs to put the motherboards back in order - they are frying the systems with insanely high voltages and all-around bad settings. Seriously. MSI for example is applying over 100mV overvoltage by default.
Lol. An awesome start to the video.
i wonder if the intel crashes are because people update their bios without updating the inntel ME driver. it definitely can cause issues if you dont
Must people don’t know you should have a page file of 8192mb if 32GB RAM and 16384 if 16GB RAM helps with stability crashes and the out of memory. Disabling page file is bad news.
the gains that you get from oc your cpu is miniscule
got 12700 and 13700 none k no problems and they don't pull 200-300w, in fact they are more efficient than am 4-5 in gaming especially on higher resolutions, also run much cooler while ironically being rated as 120w , where ryzen 5 7600-7800 are run hot no matter what you do, unless you live in Siberia or something
it took am 5 to get rid of micro stutter and bios issues after about 2 years since launch with their latest chipset drivers lulz
Hello from Germany. I'm one of them.^^
Daniel, you should watch some of videos from NorthRidgeFix's videos where he shows some fully plugged in cables that have melted on 4090's.
Well electricity is so expensive here I tend to keep my 4090 below 350W anyway. Although it must really stink for people who got it for the last drop of performance.
On the intel CPU video faults, I'd probably look into if the shader compilation is using the integrated GPU at all, and maybe try disabling that entirely. Intel's GPU drivers have ben not good, so it wouldn't; terribly surprise me to find that the drivers for their integrated graphics are a dumpster fire as well.
Interesting that NVIDIA doesn't start caring about SFF until development of CPU integrated graphics shows long term growth potential good enough to handle the most commonly played games (non AAA titles) at decent quality.
Every time I read about the new series power connectors melting, it reinforces my decision to change to AMD. Sure ray tracing sucks, but at least my thousand dollar GPU doesn't burst into flames.
Raytracing performance in RDNA 4 is going to be much better, according to rumors about PS5 Pro and hence you can expect something really good in desktop GPUs.
@@silvio351 that would be great but lets not pretend that AMD doesnt say that every release with...uhh, not great results.
Raster is more important than RT anyway.
@@silvio351according to "rumors", 7000-series was supposed to be 60% stronger than 6000-series. Look how that turned out, with some of the SKUs barely beating their previous gen. Do not trust AMD rumors, it is a cesspit of falsehood.
Still not enough titles using full RT to even bother imo.
Have had no issues with my overclocked i7-13700k or overclocked 4080 FE. This affects only the top end products and a small %.
ive gottten the checkboard on youtube in chrome. the fix was simply switching to opengl as the backend in chrome. i find it funny nvidia is blaming intel though when its probably themselves and their latest driver.
The 4090 isn’t a mass consumer card. I can’t imagine the non-corporate, non-A.I. demand for these cards is that high. If just one repair company gets 200 a month, then take into account how many other places must also fix these cards, and how many get sent back to the OEM under RMA etc, then the real number is probably over 1000 a month, that’s a lot of fail for a $2000 card!
For the last few quarters most of nvidia 40 series sales most likely come from 4090. Sure most gamer did not buy such card but it is extremely popular among semi pro. Some company even build their workstation solution based on 4090. Also the repair company that being mention is quite popular one.
That Chrome checkerboard bug is a Windows bug after all, despite nGreedia getting the blame for the last year! Shows you how long it takes MS to fix Windows bugs these days!
I heard my 360 AIO ramping up when compiling shaders but it has been rock solid till now (14700KF).
Both PL1/2 limits and unlimited have been fine, temps are very good with a 360 AIO and contact frame 👍🏻
thx
I just hope the pricing of AMD Strix Halo 32CU & 40CU doesn't render Intel Battlemage DOA.
The German price comparison table at 13:00 is completely wrong. For example, $1000 USD are about 937 EUR, not 1116 EUR as stated. Also, German prices include 19% VAT, US prices do not contain VAT.
Edit: Never mind, I just realized, the converted USD price contains 19% VAT, so it's $1000 / 1.07 * 1.19. I take it all back ;)
This is a nvidia issue with power connectors...
I appreciate your channel. I enjoy the content and your honesty. You dont show much bias, if at all. Keep up the good work. Youve got a real audience.
Still no news about 4050 and 7500 xt.
I just bought a current Samsung tablet (A9+) with 8GB of RAM for ~$200. 8GB RAM in a >$1,000 laptop is technology malfeasance.
OMG. That upscaling comparison, i knew FSR was bad but daaamn this looks terrible.
If something says 399.99 its still 400 this is a classic old marketing trick to make the consumer think they are saving money. Just for a penny!
Cloud gaming has enough lag as it is but adding keyboard and mouse support will be even more noticeable and frustrating.
im in teh SFF camp now.. i dont need TOP END
Apple shipping expensive laptops with 8GB of RAM makes the 8GB of VRAM issue on GPU's look moot even though it isn't moot at all ...
Games running fine even with 6gb vram on 1080p. For 1080p you don't need more than 8gb of vram, cause nowdays 1080p is like 720p in the past, it's too easy to run.
12v cable wont melt if you set tdp to 70%
Fair enough, but normal users shouldn't be expected to tinker with the stock power limits of a new graphics card to prevent it from commiting sudoku.
I’m a normal user, new to pc gaming, I have a 4090 & it came with a specific connector it recommends using, didn’t see any of those in the melted box. I’d be really nervous to use a cable mod or amazon connector to achieve a aesthetic at the risk of burning my card
I've been getting checkerboard corruption in Edge and Chrome for months on a 6600K with an RTX2080, I thought my fucking GPU was packing up. I disappears as soon as I get it to redraw the screen by scrolling.
6600K? Damn bro that is old
fk it I bought a used 3080 for 310$, im holding for new gen, iv had multiple gpu iv sold already 6800xt launch , another 3080 , 6600, 4070ti , I must say im underwhelmed, in what the diffrence is in reality..
and you can always recommend used/
The release date for the 3090Ti was March 29th, 2022. Why haven't we had a 4090Ti yet? That leads me to believe that there might not be a 50 series release in 2024, and maybe we get a 4090Ti in September or October?
4090 pretty much sit at the top unchallenged. There is no need to release 4090Ti. Plus the good AD102 chip will go to A6000 or L40S due to AI demand.
@@arenzricodexd4409 Yeah thats what I'm saying, we'll probably get a 4090Ti in the fall of 2024, and the 50 series will be in 2025, maybe even in the fall of 2025.
Cause 3090ti was so unnecessary laughble card. Nvidia thought 6950xt would destroy 3090, so they released even more powerful 3090ti card, that was only 10% more powerful than 3090.
Thank you for the weekly update Daniel!! It's one I always look forward to! And don't let the silly comments about the thumbnail & title get to you it's why we love your vids!
