I think constantly obsessing over CZcams stats is something a lot of creators go through. But over time, you see the cycles and patterns as interest comes and goes in what you're covering. Yes, you could make that obsession your continual mindset, but you could also actively choose not to, and doing that gets easier with time and experience. Eventually if you can find a way to switch off from stats, it can be more mentally sustainable, and the enjoyment can come from being proud of the work you do on the channel, regardless of what the stats say. And if you're happy and proud of the work, it's more likely to be a good video, which usually benefits the channel in some way long term.
Ultimately though you should do what's best for you. Turning a hobby into a full time job isn't for everyone, and if you have a fulfilling job outside of CZcams, that's also a great approach

@@danielowentech No worries. Also, I wouldn't be too concerned about what the stats have been saying the last few months. Most PC hardware channels are down, interest is quite low right now. That does hurt motivation a bit - we're certainly feeling it - but we're just taking the approach of continuing to make the best content we can, so that those that are interested still get quality content. Down periods can also be a good opportunity to refresh and reset for when things are super busy, like when multiple releases happen at once. The flow of CZcams can be a curse at times but if you don't stress too much about it, you'll be primed to go when things turn as new products launch.

@@Hardwareunboxed I feel bad for all of you come fall Steve. Not only are you going to have to deal with 2 new CPU lines, but 3 GPU releases as well. This is lining up to be the the most densely packed review cycle in history, and only RDNA4 is looking like a refresh/refinement. You almost _HAVE_ to reuse benchmark numbers between product's videos but that's sketchy when early drivers have the most fixes so there's going to be a lot of cross checking to make sure numbers stay up to date by the week.
It's fun. It's rewarding when you get to play with the newest stuff. But I don't envy the cave you're going to have to lock yourself in for several months to earn it. Maybe you need to teach the kids to queue up benchmark runs. 😅Good luck!

Hey man, I get that 10 of 10 thing. It seriously messes me up too. You make a video you’re very passionate about, high-quality content, but CZcams is like “9 of 10” because it pulled ONLY 30k-40k views. And 30-40k views is pretty amazing honestly. It can just come to how you market the video then that becomes a moral dilemma. The constant anxiety of checking stuff, pleasing sponsors, all that, it isn’t even close to healthy. I honestly think breathing in concrete dust and breaking my back tiling on my remodeling job was healthier. Which sounds crazy, but CZcams can be really isolating. No one that isn’t in it really understands it, yet everyone just wants to see the views keep going up. And with CZcams full time, you are always able to keep working and it will translate to better videos makes it really hard to let loose and chill a little.
Your decision is very respectful to maintain both. I honestly think that’s one big component of what makes your channel so great. You seem unconcerned about video performance which just makes you feel like you’re hearing this from a normal guys perspective. I’ve honestly gotten pretty jealous of how you just title videos the stupidest things sometimes which is hilarious, but I’m like “how the hell does he just call a video that??? And it WORKS!”
It’s not like you can’t choose later, but for now though, glad you are prioritizing you and your family’s well-being. Trust me, CZcams full-time is rough for the mental.
Wish you the best of luck with it, I know imma still be watchin anyway 🫡

Daniel we all go through this - "the plateau" or "downturn". The best advice I can give, and the practice I got good at that's helped me the most, is this: Try comparing current "10/10 videos" to your "10/10 videos" from years ago. Say to yourself: "ok, this one is doing bad for NOW, but how is it doing compared to that one poorly performing video I had a couples "cycles" ago? Almost always, as long as you are always improving and putting in the work, you'll notice that you are doing wildly better (or at least not worse) than back then.
Every channel eventually latches onto a cyclical pattern of growth, plateau, drop, and then bouncing back up for more growth. It's inevitable. The first time you go through it is always the hardest, and then you just get more numb to it every time you go through it. And then of course always remind yourself of two things - (1) I enjoy this job I can't believe I have, and (2) I am already doing better than I ever expected. At least that's true for me, and I suspect it's true for most CZcamsrs that stick around for more than a few months - we've all stumbled into a dream job or hobby that we've already succeeded at more than we expected. Now, if those last two things aren't true for you, THEN that's when I think you take a break or reevaluate things - but only THEN. Not during a cyclical downturn.
Hope I helped. Best Wishes. :)

Clickbait titles and thumbnails are a necessary evil on YT but keep the content sincere. Your viewers appreciate you for your honesty, not because we were tricked into watching you. We like that we can hear your kids playing upstairs because it's real.
If you quit teaching to start adding fancy editing and graphics it would be nice but wouldn't really add anything to your substance and just add a shitload of work on you. Not to mention you have to deal with product release cycles and trying to make up content for the lulls in between. (Which we're in right now) When tech is dead, focus on your family. When you think of something interesting you want to test out that the rest of us don't have the hardware to test, test it and make a video. When new products release, then focus on those. The rough part is when you have the most time in the summer there's usually nothing happening in tech. Maybe look into mods more like you've done recently when it's a slow news cycle.

His niche imo is that he's very direct, not overly technical, not over analytical and not outrageous like LTT tech that makes $30k PC builds. I def agree he has more value to society as a teacher. I think he should combine them both and teach tech-in person at workshops or in 1 on 1 low-cost session to young ppl looking into tech. To inspire the youth is one of the greatest things you can do! 👍

@@zerocal76 when i said ''all already know'' perhaps what i should have said is information we all can already easily attain, for example... want to see a 4060 review, there are plenty of them out there.
Good teachers on the other hand... that may not be so easy to come by these days, many are poisoned by politics, or in it for the paycheck so when a teacher is so open about being passionate for the job, enough to not quit and take a youtube job at the first opportunity - i think thats valuable in todays world and he will bring so much more value to youngsters lives teaching them with passion for doing so rather than spouting information on the internet we all can already easily obtain. Although that does not mean i dont value his channel or work on youtube, far from it.

As much as I enjoy and find value in your videos, I'm glad that you're (currently) still choosing to both post YT videos and continue teaching.
For one thing, it's clear from your demeanor in your videos that you are enjoying the current setup, as chaotic as it sometimes seems, and it's that very relaxed relationship with the 'business' of CZcams that inspired me to become a member of your channel (rather than just a subscriber). My initial impression seems confirmed from your statements in this video, even though you did not quite say it explicitly -- turning yourself into a full-time CZcamsr would (probably, I don't know you, after all🙂) be crushing to your essential spirit. It's not that you couldn't, it just.... doesn't sound like you? at least not rn.
Second, and most importantly, I would personally feel terrible as a member, for being in any part responsible for removing a good teacher from availability. There are so few, and so many students who need you (all). It's not about the math, though I'm sure that you're great at that too; it's about being one of the people being interested in creating a healthy growth environment for young people who are going to grow no matter what the environment is like. Honestly, that seems more important, and time-critical, than providing me with comparative benchmarks, much as I set store by them.
Most important is that you're having fun. Because that's what shines through and enhances the value of the knowledge you're sharing. I'm sure that counts for your classroom as well, though I'll never see it.
You do you, Daniel. That's what I'm here for🙂. Oh, and thanks for an illuminating glimpse into what it's like managing a growing YT channel👍🏾.

I love this discussion and I really appreciate you breaking down some real numbers for us. I think you make a great point about the amount of time spent versus how much you are actually getting per video. If I understand you correctly, it does seem like you don't really care for clickbait titles and I actually appreciate that! There are too many channels that fall into that problem of constantly doing clickbait stuff and not really telling me ANYTHING about what they are trying to tell me! And it is cool to see your channel growing strongly in the last few months and I know that I really enjoy the content. Found your channel in late 2022 and still watching!

As a fellow teacher who also actually *likes* teaching and who also has external creative outlets/streams of income, this was all so incredibly well thought-out and expressed as everything you do always is.
And as a devout viewer and enjoyer of your channel, I'd only want to remind you that many of us like watching you because we like *you*, not your thumbnails or flashy titles. You remain one of the most/only sincere, genuine, down-to-earth faces in this industry and the fact that you *don't* sell out for more easy views or lucrative-yet-predatory sponsorship deals is very likely why most of us keep coming back and would happily watch you talk about "behind the scenes" stuff like this. You don't shout at us, you don't try to manipulate our feelings, you don't read from an AI-generated script - you just sit down and talk about what's on your mind like you're chatting with your friends, and that builds a relationship with your audience like nothing else will.
Fully support your well-informed decision to keep this as a passion project on the side and not give it power over your life, livelihood, or mental well-being. Put yourself and your family first, always, and keep CZcams around only as long as it serves your happiness. Appealing to the general population on the internet can be a fickle mistress...
Congratulations on the incredible success over the years, and thank you for always keeping it real!

The reality of youtube is that short form content is always gonna be more popular, and the super in-depth videos aren’t really for everyone. As a fellow father of young ones, I completely agree that financial stability while maintaining the mental bandwidth to be a present parent is paramount at this stage of life.
I certainly wouldn’t want to be in a position where I had to depend solely on view counts and the fickle whims of the algorithm in order to feed my family.
Your channel has already grown this much without you going all-in and there will always be new GPU’s and tech to report on and test in the future, but the time that you have with your young kids as well as the minds that you inspire at school is finite..

You're incredibly transparant, more than the vast majority of CZcamsrs. That is partly why I watch your videos. You also for a long time viewed CZcams as a fun hobby and somewhere to share your insights, interests and passion for PC's. The moment you view CZcams as your job, it becomes a unhealthy workplace that forces you to think too much about metrics like views, subs, ad revenue, etc. As you have noticed, a lot of the Tech and PC CZcamsrs main drive is to sell us viewers something we often don't need. Something valuable you have and like to share with us, is your passion for teaching and your drive to inform us and teach us how to be better consumers instead of ttrying to sell us something first and make it informative second. I'm really happy that you thought about CZcams as a job thoroughly and understood that CZcams is not a consistent paying job and that you may have to resort to less honourable tactics like shady thumbnails and other things to increase views/ clicks, etc. Things become less genuine.

Easily one my my favorite videos youve uploaded Daniel. I love how down to earth you are here. I think with the balance of titles vs clickbait, some of the trick seems to be keeping it a bit vague. If its 7600 vs 4060 then if im not interested in those i wont click it. If its more like "whos got the better value at the low end these days" or something where its more of a conversation along with the benchmarks plus i want to find out what the answer to that question of the title is. Making titles questions has gotten me many times. Once im there i commonly go ahead and stay for at least half of it. Keep up the great work man! Back in 2022 when I first saw Daniel's video. I really like the way you talk to the viewers. Just feel like I'm a 6 or 7 year old child being taught by a teacher. And that somehow felt really nice. And all the goofy stuff you do in the videos like warring about the flashbang or shrinking yourself to point out something. Those are really down to earth. And all the contents you made, the news or the comparisons were actually what people are curious about at the time. It just felt right. One thing that immediately occurred to me after knowing that you were a high school teacher not a primary school teacher was that I can not imagine how good it feels to have a "rebellious" high schooler come to the math teacher to talk about the latest games and graphics cards. For both sides. That would be awesome. Anyways, keep up with the hard work(but not too hard). Wish you all the best.

So for example I look at the title: 7600 vs 4060. These two gpus don't interest me, I saw some benchmarks and comparisons on them, I don't want to see any other. That doesn't mean that I consider that your content is not good, it's just a subject that deosn't interest me that much. Consider that you come to your classroom and announce the students that you will present a subject they don't really like. It doesn't mean the subject for that day shouldn't be taught, there are some people that may need that information, or that you are a bad teacher :)

Love the transparency and honesty. I have no doubt you are an awesome teacher, as regards to YT don't become a algorithm slave.

Do what you wanna do, make videos you want to make. I hope your channel explodes and you make lots of money and never need to worry about finances again.
As someone as weird as you that loves my job and has a family, if I also had time to do something on the side like CZcams for some extra money, I still wouldn't quit my job. I'd make almost more than my yearly paycheck with contract work but it's more stressful, so I just do it when I need quick cash because doing what I want is always more important to me than working for the sake of getting money.

Bro you’re a beast of a person. CZcams can suck it bro, being a teacher is so much more noble.

You're doing a fantastic job Daniel! Really glad you're staying on CZcams, and I totally agree that you should have the liberty to space out your uploads like you want :)
    Keep up the great work!

I quit teaching math 4 years ago to focus more on consulting and research. I miss it. A 4.0 in math degree is impressive, I wasn't able to do it.
You have some additional options that you may not have considered. You can quickly bang out a masters deree and get a job adjucting at a college or university. That way you could still do some teaching and generate some income to suppliment youtube, if you choose to focus more on youtube. You can also open a math ed channel and see if you could generate income from that. It's not the same as teaching in a class room, but it might work.
It sounds like you've come in a good place with all of this. I'm happy for you. Keep up the good work!

Watched the entire video knowing it will help you since I have Premium. You, sir, were also one of the youtubers that helped in my decision to upgrade to RX 6750 XT back when the inflation of gpus was high due to scalpers and crypto miners. Bought it at launch to see the price skyrocket and even going out of stuck shortly after. So your videos are priceless as you also are for the kids that you teach. 🙏 If you decide to go full time youtube down the road, please keep in mind that you don't have to quit teaching entirely, you can keep teaching part time to still feed that passion and help the future generation develop into good humans like you. Thank you for existing and for all your videos that you made and will make!
This video was recommended to me after 21h of posting, idk if that info helps...
