One consideration they have to make, even if it makes the device less powerful than a steam deck, is how heavy is it. Nintendo is for everyone, but especially the kids. I have a younger cousin who vastly prefers plaing on the switch compared to my steam deck, because the later is too uncomfortable since he often has to rest his hands on the table to play. To him, the switch as a device (disregarding games available) is the "better" one, because of that.
Plus battery lifeâŠ. And they might be able to make up for things with a faster hard drive or other ways for shortcutsâŠ.
Nintendoâs for everyone not just kids in fact Iâd say Nintendoâs target audience isnât really kids anymore itâs young adults and people in their 40s like myself.

People like to pretend that the Deck's battery life isn't trash. I value not having to lug around powerbanks or having to scope out an outlet over proccesing power. If I can spent an entire afternoon out on a single charge, then i'm happy.

As long as nintendo stick to their own style like mario odyssey and totk they will shine on switch 2. The issue with low power devices is 3rd party! As ps5 and xbox race ahead dont expect to be playong the latest games. Expect more remasters and things like death stranding etc.

My main question and interest is.. What will Super Switch do in docked mode? Of course in handheld Nintendo will go for battery life over powerrrrrrrrr. But docked? Which is a mode that the chip could be developed for and is not something Steamdeck is made for. Have a 4 tflop chip that is highly downclocked in handheld mode, but if you push it harder and make it breath in docked mode? Not saying it will get to that PS4 Pro mark, but maybe towards 2 tflops? As far as tflops are relevant anyway
The Steam Deck is a powerhouse for a handheld (considering its price). I want an upgrade, but if it is outclassed that's okay. Honestly I'm more rooting for another hybrid with decent battery and backwards compatibility. An upgrade in power is needed too, but if its not quite comparable to Steam Deck which is roughly comparable to the PS4 Pro, that's fine by me.
A bump up for switch, automatically makes it better or match steamdeck. The power in dock is most important.

Can see 3 party being a issue, as its going to be bar far less powerful than console's that have been out for four years, and we're already talking about a next gen Xbox in 2026 and PS6 in 2027 for instance. Like if Switch 2 possibly going to struggle to get games from this gen on it, surely being struggling a few years after launch.
This will not be an impressive device and that would've been okay if it came out in like 2023 but Xbox and Sony will likely enter the handheld market eventually and show up nintendo with more cutting edge hardware. If the selling point for switch 2 is that it's more powerful than switch but the 3rd party games are still all lagging behind, I'll be disappointed just a bit
Xbox and Sony will run into the same issues. High graphic, high price and low battery life. Will that help or hurt Sony/Microsoft? @@brianwright9215 no, moving forward the way chips are fabricated will increase efficiency. They will be able to get a bit more power with similar battery life to switch 2 after the technologies of 3nm have improved.

The thing internally will be in between a ps4 and steam deck once it's underclocked, but optimization will put the switch at or far above the steam deck. God of war runs at 1080p 30 fps with the gpu equivalent of a amd hd 7850, but a 70 percent faster gtx 960 can barely hit that 1080p 30. The only reason steam deck is able to match ps4 is brute power, but the switch 2 will have far more brute power than the ps4 and optimization, plus dlss 3.

Yea, I wouldn't worry about Switch 2 being unimpressive in performance. Even if Nintendo SIGNIFICANTLY down-clocks the Switch 2' GPU (to say, 500 Mhz) to get decent battery life, that still puts it right around the raw power of a Steam Deck(supposing it has as many shader cores as that Nvidia leak of preliminary 'Swich 2 related' hardware suggested). It's CPU cores won't be a match for Steam Deck's raw performance, but it will make up ground by having more available cores.
In actual real world performance(handheld), it should perform notably BETTER than the SD, given its more advanced GPU features. Even the Switch 2's CPU might get way better results in games that heavily rely on asset streaming, due to dedicated hardware to handle file decompression. A taxing process that the SD is forced to use precious CPU resources on.
In DOCKED MODE, however, it gonna be a no-contest. Switch 2 all day! It will be way closer to Series S performance than most think, AND it'll have some features that are either superior to, or possibly even non-existent on current Xbox hardware.
(If you really wanna lowball the specs: Even at the same Switch clock speeds(384/768 MHz), Switch 2 would be two-thirds the power of the SD, BUT with a more modern and efficient GPU to make up the difference. Dock mode at Switch clocks will, again, puts it ahead of SD, ON TOP of having a more advanced GPU)
Whenever this thing launches, people will be FORCED to take notice of what makes an impressive handheld. Balancing raw power, real world performance, battery life, functionality, form-factor, and mass-market price is NOT an easy task! ANYONE can make a powerful handheld at the expense of any one/all of those other aspects...
...But *The Superior Design - the TRULY impressive feat is: to strike the "perfect balance."* Switch did that years ago. Steam Deck came the closest since then. I expect Switch 2 to demonstrate that "Perfect Balance/Superior Design" all over again.

I imagine it's so much more work to get a handheld/hybrid done right in comparison to the xbox or PS5. You have to consider so many more things like battery life, controller configs, but still kinda good tech that people want. The big consoles consume like 250 watts or so and a switch consume 3-5 watts. Let that sink in.. I'm much more impressed with very good tech and low power consumption than just limitless power consumption and just raw power for the best possible fidelity. Since the graphical fidelity of a PS4 even is very good even in today's standards.

Not really a surprise that the switch 2 would be weaker than the steam deck it's Nintendo they haven't made consoles with a lot of power for some years now. Also I still want themes like we had with the 3DS.
Steam deck is good but 1 hour of playtime is a joke. Nintendo has the best track in terms of battery life which very important to handheld. And Nvdia tech was switch 2 utilize, we already knew the rumor in Gamescom demo.
The deck oled has a 50wh battery. The max wattage you can achive in it is about 23w, so 50/23= 2.17h of MINIUM playtime, but you only have to use those 23w in the 4-5 most demanding games, the rest of the games could oscile between 6w and 16w of total consumption, so we are talking about 3.15 to 8 hours of autonomy..and those are matemathical facts, so i'm afraid you don't know what are you talking about.... .
The battery life depends upon what games youâre playing big graphically intensive games yeah youâre only getting an hour but the less intensive games will require less power to play them đ

I seldom only get an hour of life out of my Steam Deck. When playing a super demanding game (for Steam Deck standards) like Baldur's Gate 3, I get a little over an hour of play. Which is still very little, but comparatively when playing a demanding game on my Switch, like Tears of the Kingdom, I get about two hours of play. Which is better, but not leaps and bounds better. When playing a non-demanding game, on both my Steam Deck and Switch I get 4-5 hours. Keep in mind that I have an OG Switch, not the one with an improved battery or the OLED. And I also have an OG Steam Deck. I'm glad both companies have newer models that have better battery life, and the Switch no doubt has better battery life. I just wanted to share my experience that the gap in battery life hasn't been that massive for me.

I honestly think we have hit peak nintendo. This next generation is going to be rough. Smash bros hit its limit. Mario kart 8 has more content than all the other games and nothing new to shake up mario kart 9. Zelda will be big and mario will be big. Issue is other properties that will be ignored like they always are. Nintendo new system is looking like a wii u again. It might play the old games. If it can't port newer games, it's just exclusive here and there. If it's too weak, it will be emulated fast. Game prices can't rasie because you aren't getting equal quality from other platforms. Its hard to trash the steam deck when i am currently playing it and enjoying dead island 2. If you have issue with battery just get a battery bank attachment. Best money i ever spent. Turns a 2 to 3 hour device into 4 to 6 hours easily. Better than the switch and more power too.

The truth is nintendo better have better games and keep prices lower. Steam sells the steam deck at a loss. Issue is it won't sell that much because it's only sold on steam. The problem will be when the switch 2 (or whatever they eventually call it) is so underpowered on launch that it will be emulatable pretty much straight away by the handheld pc's which are available at that time. It really needs a proper jump in power or Nintendo will just find themselves in the same emulation mess again.

And yes there's alot of downgrades that's needed to be done for it to properly work and even with that there's still some various bugs and huge slowdowns in-game... Witcher 3 is a 2015 game as well so yall need to take that unto consideration and games became demanding as the years goes by..
Witcher 3 now runs on an update that made running its graphics a much more difficult task

My problem with Nintendo is that there are some things with them that are NOT kosher. I am also upset that Nintendo doesnt listen to their fan base when it comes to certain games, like ACNH. I refuse to renew my island or start over again. After the hardwork and countless of hours i put in? To start all over again? Nah. And since im hearing bad stuff about the Switch OLED, it makes me think twice in getting one. I enjoy my Switch Lite, but sad i cant play it on my tv.

The video is kinda obvious isnât it? The Steam Deck is a PC, so games are optimised for it but they are not âexclusivelyâ optimised for it. Switch 2 games will be ergo they will push the Switch 2 harder and use more of its performance. BOTH devices can live in the same space.

If it is weaker then a steam deck this will HURT it. People complain that all Nintendo does is the same games. Well fun fact if its weak specs cross over games are harder to pull off. Upscale is not the savior to consoles. This means now that devs have to make a game that works around upscaling making cross platform games harder to designed. I'm sorry I'm disappointed in Nintendo thinks they can keep getting away with weak consoles making there devs work harder to make a game look great and run great. Devs already have a hard time with some cross console games yet alone ones that have big gaps with others already existing. How long can Mario/zelda/and pokemon save this console?
The current Nintendo Switch has lower specs than the Steam Deck. But at least the Nintendo Switch will not over heat in a player's hand or have any other problems that the Steam Deck has had.

Making it as powerful as the Xbox series x would be a monumentally stupid decision. The steam deck oled costs 700 CAD and thatâs without a dock. Do you want to pay a grand for your switch??? Having a ps4 era console on handheld would be a miracle. I think the most we can hope for is that it matches a ps4 pro.

I disagree, no way it's specs are less than a steam deck, also series s handheld is a rog ally pretty much they missed this one, which is rare, but I think switch 2 is going to surprise a lot of people.also there are current gen laptop chips that beat a series s...try a Mobile 4080 or 4090 for instance, I'd say 4060 might be comparable honestly, they kinda missed it on this prediction. Think it will blow the doors off steam deck. Rog ally is already getting 2nd gen ready, it's more powerful than steam deck gen 1...switch 2 will be awesome.

As someone who plays a fairly basic game now that doesnât run properly on any of the last gen systems the repeated reminder of how outdated the Switch 2 will be before it even launches has not got me hyped. Nintendo doesnât need to necessarily match PS5 & Xbox Series X but they need to step up their game a little
given all the 3rd party games.
On paper the hardware is worse . As every gamer knows . It's all about the optimization. Plus if the recent mod with zelda tears of the kingdom running as 60fps on a current switch is any indication on what the next switch is capable of sign me up. 60 fps zelda at 800 p upscaled to 1080p via dlss plus with some added effects and higher quality textures. Ypu know how good that is going to look on a 8 inch screen handheld ?? Fuckin nice đđœ.
I do not know what effect virtual upscaling has n the battery, if it is significant, that FHD upscaling won't happen. Tbh, it likely won't happen either way. But upscaling to 720p/800p on graphically intensive 9th Gen titles will look much better than the variable resolutions cure tly in place for the vanilla switch

Because of their mess up. I prefer the steam deck. I have over 1900 games. Nintendo switch is pretty much dead right now. New system needs more delays. This upgrade will be lack luster. This is a 7 year gap with a more lack luster jump from Xbox 360 to Xbox one.

It really depends on what the specs are on Switch 2. I want it to have games run better than the current Switch. Some games donât run well on the Switch example like Apex Legends. I donât have a Steam Deck at this time because I canât afford as of now. Iâm excited for Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door Remake because Iâve never played it before and Iâve heard itâs really good.
This isn't even an official source! We have to at least wait until it's announced to know how powerful it'll be in comparison to the Steam Deck.
