People forget sometimes how many OG games the switch has. For some franchises even 2 or more installments
I’m glad people are looking back and recognizing the Wii U was cooler than a lot of people gave it credit for, but I think it’s a pretty huge stretch to say it’s better than the Switch.
Switch is superior yes. The Wii U seemed to have had more charm in the beginning before the services started to fall off
Both the Switch and Wii U had their own pros and cons. Wii U had virtual console, and Switch had actual portability.
The wii u didn't suck as an idea, it sucked in practice. Only thing the wiiu has over the switch is the UI. Other than that these people lost their damn mind
WiiU does Raytracing. WiiU has much better music. Better online-gaming (not stuttering mess online). And WiU has native Mii-Support.
WiiU also allows you to use 3DS and play against 3DS-players in Monster Hunter 3U. lol Local Multiplayer with a SINGLE WiiU and up to FOUR 3DS-players.
WiiU also had LOCAL Multiplayer in Splatoon.
you’re tripping; Wii U has personality and a lot of finished, well polished games, and you can actually interact with people in meaningful, free spoken ways

The Switch has the better UI, it’s simple and you get to your games quickly unlike the slow and clunky Wii U UI which is ugly but the games are why I’m interested in the Wii U.

I don’t understand why many people are obsessed about original. I don’t care as long as it entertaining. I’m one of the people that likes remakes and would love MySims to come to the Switch, I would love to have Nintendogs on the Switch. Some people say to play the original instead but I grew up with poor graphics so I rather not. I want Lara Croft to look better than the block type figure I grew up with. I liked Pokémon Let’s Go because it was better than the weird non color of Pokémon Red/Blue. I’m not a fan of Pixel art. I don’t feel nostalgic about it
The Wii U was my favorite system and I had fun playing cod and zombie u on there.
I miss being able to see people mii’s and interacting with them!!

I loved the Wii U, but the Switch is what I wanted the Wii U to be mostly. I bought it for the separate portable screen, as I love to watch TV while I play games. I still have a Wii U and use it. Still love my Skylanders. Yes, I'm an adult that loves Skylanders. My soccer team, that I coached (and are all now adults with children themselves), got me into it.
You wanted your Switch to be a mostly-boring machine? Really? I still remember Reggie´s Words "What´s wrong with you?" (he meant people like you, btw ;)
I love my Wii U. I got it right around the time Mario Kart 8 came out. When my kids got to the age that they could start playing, it was an awesome system to teach them on, especially with games like Kirby and the Rainbow curse, where I could be the helpful one using the game pad, allowing them to feel like they were doing a great job playing through the game. We beat it together and they felt a big accomplishment.
Games like Mario party on the Wii U admittedly wasn’t a great game, but the bowser feature allowing him to make hidden moves using the game pad were fantastic.
Then you had the Zelda HD remakes that utilized the game pad to sort through your inventory, and see your map without having to hit the pause menu. This was such an amazing feature that they needed it for BOTW because they didn’t want an older system to outdo their new flagship title in terms of functionality.
Smash Bros… it featured 8 players on one system! 8 controllers hooked up to one screen playing the same game at the same time. As far as I know neither Sony, or Microsoft have that feature.
The backwards compatibility with the Wii, including Wii motes, nunchucks, and the sensor bar meant that all Wii titles could be played natively on the Wii U.
The Wii U pro controller is still my favourite controller to this day. It’s so comfortable, and the stick placement being on the same plane was just so much better than what we have now.
All this to say that the Wii U was a great system. But… succession does happen, and the switch has continued off where the Wii U couldn’t take Nintendo due to, whatever it is that made it fail (marketing, timing, support, whatever you want to say). The switch wouldn’t have happened without the Wii U. And it’s possible to argue that the switch wouldn’t be nearly as popular without the failure of the Wii U, because we wouldn’t have seen as many great titles released for it, as they would have otherwise been locked to the Wii U.
I think the biggest holdup for the Wii U in my opinion was the lack of wireless range. Kids couldn’t take it to their room to game while parents watched Tv, you couldn’t take it to the bathroom for some toilet time gaming. You couldn’t even take it to the kitchen to stream cooking videos should you have chosen to do so. But it will stay in my collection as one of my favourite gaming consoles.
The Wii U's life span was only 4 and a half years old. Wouldn't it only be fair to compare games exclusive to the switch that were not ports in its first 4 and a half years?

Nah, the only real downside of the Switch is lack of virtual console (and that purchases didn't carry over). Also, it could play Mario Galaxy 2. :(
You don't know what you're talking about when it comes to Monster Hunter. MH Rise is on all platforms. The WiiU also had MH3U, which was only on WiiU & 3DS.
The wii u is a good console, but saying its better then the switch is pure nostalgia.
The wii u does the feel a lot better, along with a better virtual console, but other than that the switch's original games and general concept is so much better than the wii u's. Just because the switch got a lot of ports doesn't undermine the wii u, it just shows that its idea wasnt needed for a majority of games while the portability of the switch is definitively better.

I regret that the Wii U did not release the DS Player as an add-on accessory like the GameCube and the Game boy Player.
One nitpick I have: Why doesn't the Switch OLED have Netflix and other streaming apps?? I have a vibrant screen but I can only watch CZcams or Crunchyroll on it. Just why?

Because such things require POWER. Something which even modern Playsation 5/XBox Series S/X no longer have.
Last POWER-ful hardware from Sony/MS was Xbox 360/PS3 ,not PS4/XBox One.

11:00: And yes, of course the Wii U has a better library than Switch. You forget that the Switch can ONLY run Switch games + whatever NSO titles Nintendo temporarily lets you taste. The Wii U can run 100% of Wii and GameCube games, including WiiWare (all NATIVELY with 100% compatibility) and VC from both consoles. Add to that VC injects and emulation and it isn't even close.
Oh, and you were dead wrong about the last few years of the Wii. You are too young to appreciate how great they were.
The Wii U does have VC games, that look like they're behind a dingy window pane. The emulator on Wii U was infamous for making games look worse.
@@ArcaJ It´s not using emulation, that´s why. It´s using virtualization. That means games will run 1:1 like on original hardware. Not improved. Modern emulators don´t emulate 1:1. They rather aim to improve resolution of original games or do things that couldn´t be done in the past (e.g. remove loading-times or do "backwards"-functions).
That doesn’t count after all Wii U was just a GameCube anyway, nice try but the switch is superior. It has more original games for it. Wii Y fanboys are in denial 😂😂

The Wii U games being on switch makes it better since the games became portable
I’m not gonna lie I wish they supported me versus over to the switch. I love the startup music of the Wii U. I love that the home screen music. I love the me versus send messages to friends all that went away on the switch and that’s probably one of the biggest things I wish they would’ve had on the switch because I felt like it allowed the community to thrive the way Xbox and Sony does on their systems.
Finally I can agree with Zack on something and people saying the Wii U being better than the Switch has lost their minds 😂😂.

I just bought a Wii U a couple of weeks ago. I bought a New 3DS XL direct from Nintendo in late 2019. I just had a Wii before that. You know what Nintendo handheld I could have bought any time in the last 7 years but haven't (and won't)? Switch is the 2nd most successful handheld in Nintendo's history after the DS. So what? Not interested.
But the Wii U deserved to be a failed console because it had a thick tablet no one asked for and that Nintendo had a hard time showing why we needed it, and it had 7th Gen power at the dawn of the 8th Gen, which meant that new AAA games were not going to be ported to it. And look at how little Nintendo itself did for it in some dreadful years! But owning one now? Homebrewed with the ability to run basically all pre-Switch Nintendo software except 3DS games (yes, even DS games)? Sign Me Up!
Switch have more fire emblem games and they are not port.

Lay off the drugs and the Starfox game on WiiU is considered the he worst ever game in the series and has potentially killed off the series for good!

You are forgetting that WiiU also had Wii library .. it was two systems in one. You gotta ask yourself is the Wii and WiiU combined better than the Switch?
WiiU can also run Gamecube (cough, with a not 100% official method). But Nintendo planned this either way. WiiU can also run gamecube-games faster than any other hadrware can (including a Highend PC). Reason seems to be, that gamecube-code is optimized code for WiiU. And this can lead to 100% max. power if you use a special script which allows this to do (uses gamecude-code at WiiU-processor FSB, not at gamecube-fsb). Equals 5x faster game.

The wii U was great! The Switch is good too but the Switch has a lot more performance issues with games than the Wii U did in my opinion. That's the biggest issue with the Switch. It has been struggling for years now. The Wii U didn't have this issue because the Switch came.

I was surprised that it even ran decent on the switch. When it comes to it, I was able to get it on sale .
Even if it was so.... less is more. Portable games as a hybrid console system is the thing now. The Wii U wasn't really that portable. And if the Switch is lesser in any way shape or form the Switch is still my preference.
WiiU is a supercomputer like machine. Such machines will never be really portable. WiiU is like a PS3, you can take into your kitchen and use it there to play/browse or do calculation-heavy stuff. But you cannot take it out of your house.

The Wii U had a lot going for it at the time. Marketing was not one of them. IMO, the game pad was precursor to the Switch. I liked the concept but there wasn't, at least in my opinion, a lot of support for the system. Again, I believe that had a lot to do with the marketing and general lack of understanding the differences between the Wii and the Wii U and it's benefits for the the consumer.
On a side note... DANG Zack, you were young back then!! 😂
But, red dead, borderlands, Witcher, and bioshock doesn’t play well on the switch, so you can’t really say “ we got those and Wii U didn’t “
They don't play as well as they do on my PC rig with a 4090 of course or my Legion Go, but if I want to play these on a 10 hour plane flight and not have to keep pulling battery packs out and annoying everyone around me with fan noise while they try to sleep, the Switch is great. Even my Steam Deck has issues with some of these or can't play them at all; and it still only gets a bit more battery over my Go or Ally. You can't expect a portable system to play any of those as well as a console or PC, with any sort of battery life, you're going to have to have lower quality graphics and fps. The fact that we have these on a portable system right now, with good battery life, is a feat. The next gen will be even better and can't wait to see it. For now, I'm fine with using my Switch to play games like these on the Go. As someone who owns more portable gaming consoles and computers than the most ever will, the Switch is still great at what it does. If I am home and going to play any of these, then yeah, I'm going to my PC or PS5 and if I am in a hotel room traveling and can plug in or somewhere that I'm going to play for 30 minutes to an hour, then I pull out my Go, Ally, SteamDeck, or OneXFly, depending; I might even plug into my OneXGPU. I like handhelds and tinkering, so I am well aware of what it capable in handheld and hybrid today. For everything you gain for performance, you lose something else; at least at this stage in technology. We are probably 3 to 5 years away from having something Switch like, that also plays like a PS5 or PC gaming rig. Then when we have that, people will still say that it's crap...ya know why, because it will still be behind a traditional console or gaming PC. We are probably 10+ years away from a convergence.
But those are still ports anyway. I have them all on PS3. Not that they were amazing in there… but they are old games. Worth rereleasing? Yes… necessary? No.
I rather have those games for my home console anyways. I’m not gonna play borderlands on a small screen and it buggy and laggy

@user-in3br2qs8x never said it ran like ASS. For the games that I play on it, it runs well. RDR2, The Outer Wilds, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, Detroit: Become Human, etc, it runs well. Does my Go play better, sure, if I crank it; but if I want battery life, without a pack, and quiet fan, it gives me 45-70 fps usually for these. Each handheld has its pros and cons. You're obviously a child, whose ego and identity is wrapped up in the hardware you use and whatever anyone else uses sucks. All to make you feel better about yourself and put a bandaid over your insecurity and lack of self confidence. It's OK though, most likely you'll grow out of it and look back at these comments and cringe.
I love the Wii U but yes I believe that Nintendo switch is batter than Wii U.
Sorry but i cannot agree that Nintendo explored their entire catalog as there is no pokemon Colossium and no Pokemon XD Gale of Darkness when i deffinately feel like there should have been by now amongst others like Kirby Air Ride and so many others to list a few. Also i truely hate the fact that you MUST pay for an online subscription JUST to play with your friends online that is completely greedy and unacceptible.
Developers of "Pokemon Collosseum" and "Gale of Darkness" no longer exist...!

@@Magidiny123 No. The game cannot be ported as it does not even support GPUs to begin with. It runs in software only.
And modern hardware is EXTREMELY bad at running stuff on procesor only. Which is why most modern games (Unity-games) do not do this.
Everythign today has to rely on GPU`s power or you have really, really, really bad performance.
Which is also why modern AIs suck (not being calculated on processor any longer) or there are no more AIs being used in games at all.
Personally I hated, HATED the Wii U imo horrible platform, I disliked the gamepad a lot (except in Xenoblade Chronicles X) bought the Zombi U edition back then but didn't play more then a year and a half on it.
Then Switch came in 2017 insta sold my Wii U and the few games I had faster than you can say Wii U, and now my game library on the Switch is 15 switch games to 1 Wii U game if not more. Repurchased the few games I did enjoy on the Wii U. (Bayo 2 and DKCTF in example).
The drift on the joycons? I still have my 2017 Switch and NEVER had any drift issues at all. Guess I was or am lucky (my gamepad stopped working twice in 1.5 year of having it, and had to get it repaired twice by Nintendo).
Supercomputer-like machines shouldn´t be used by children. WiiU is some kind of supercomputer. I works very similar to a PS3...which is exacly the reason it´s better than a Switch.
But this is the price you pay when you create a supercomputer. And not a simple gaming-machine.
Xenoblade Chronicles X was awesome
That’s one I’d love for them to port over to the switch I’ve been on this xenoblade kick and just finishing up the first one and will be going on to the 2nd.
@@BlueMilkJedi that game relies on Miiverse. No Miiverse = No Xenoblade X.Becasue you need to be able to create clans in that game, else it´s just boring singleplayer only. Also this game uses SONY-original music. It will never come to Nintendo again without Sony´s "OK" of re-using that music. haha. Yes sir. Xenoblade X uses SONY-music. Some of the most-advanced music which was ever produced (and osme of the highest quality mind you) was used in Xenoblade X! And Sony is one of biggest Nintendo-haters some say.
And i fully understand now why it was SONY delivering the masterpiece-music of that game. lmao.and why Nintendo didn´t want to show much of that music in that game to begin with. Because of their Pride.Sony-music is BETTER than Nintendo-music. Very simple.
DId you know that WiiU even has an own AI-like Voice-creaed game called "Nintendoland" which comes with an own AI-like controlled voice?
I especially loved the original Sony-soundtrack in that game! i was one of the best game-music ever created if you ask me! Nothing comes close to this!
I love the Wii u. I wanted it because they show the golf ball on the pad then u use the wii remote to hit it onto the TV screen 🔥. With that said Switch is far superior
There was so many great games in the first 2 years then maybe 1 or 2 really good ones and a bunch of mediocre ones they dropped the ball tbh and I don't really see a reason to get a switch 2 if real

They sacrificed the ui for the useless joy cons and they don’t even use it.
All MODERN machines have a BAD UI. WiIU isn´t modern. So it did have a nice/Good UI and UX.
But look at the interface on modern PC (Steam is a joke today when it comes to its UI, mroe and more people are complaining about that shit going on there) or on XBox or even Playstation 5...haha! WiIU simply has the BEST UI ever created.
I personally think it even looks better than "Windows XP" 20 years ago.

The switch is JUST basically the wii u 2.0. Better name. And only one screen at a time . both have a pad .one can take the controllers off .the other cant .one has discs...the other not .
One is faster than the other.
ONE "HAD" a online library of Virtual console games .old and new games .
I think what killed the wii u . was the marketing.. the lack of big titles..bug hitters.
But i did have a lot of games . mainly online. Mainly indie games.. (and the amazing VC games..)

On Wii and Wii U (and 3DS), when you bought a Virtual Console title, it was yours to keep. How does that compare to NSO? And the Wii U plays GC and Wii games NATIVELY. What does Switch play natively? Just about every 3rd party game on Switch has a BETTER PC version, and I can play all those other games on PC in emulation. There's no reason to own a Switch. The Wii U offers a unique gaming experience (which includes the Wiimote and all the Wii games) that the Switch just can't match and never will.
The switch is miles better but i appreciate the wii u because of it’s failure in advertising and what people thought it was (a hand held dockable console) it pathed way for the switch

WiiU wasn´t made for games only. that would be boring.WiiU can now run own animated themes. With music. Something no other platform can do.And more is to come.

No it doesn´t. A WiiU can do many things not even a PS5 can do. Neither can a Highend PC do the same. Only WiiU can do these things like TRUE raytracing, true 2-screen-gaming, having a touchscreen, a microphone, a 2-Screen game, a Walking-sensor and even 3DS systems coupled at once...!
Wiiu is the ONLY machine which can do 10-player LOCAL multiplayer. 10 players!
Wiiu can handle music and Animated themes now. With ease.Not in some dumb Cfw. But officially! You install these on your SD-card or directly on your machine. You run hem. You change the way the WiiU´s OS works. You can do whaever you want with WiiU´s OS now.

The Switch is definitely better, but at least the Wii U and 3DS had a soul. I mean, who doesn't miss system music? We continue to listen to mii channel music to this day, the wii shop channel, just the standard menu music alone lives rent-free in people's brains. I know the little system quirks and apps are things a lot of people don't care about, but if all I wanted to experience was put in a game and go, then I'd just boot up a Playstation.
NOT saying the Switch is bad, but I just wish we had more of a "3ds-like" experience with a few extra things going for it.

did you know that if you hack the switch it runs better playing the same game like minecraft bed rock its funny
that´s normal and not special. When you run something on Cfw you don´run it on original firmware, which saves ressources.
Difference is WiiU it can run games MUCH better on ORIGINAL firmware. We can now even change the complee WiiU´s OS. All of it´s UI and UX. With themes which come with music and own animations.

@@tigergameing-lc1xd yes it has to do with the OS. The WiiU uses one of the most complex OS ever made. It allows thousands of functions no other machine has (including PC). Including more than 2-sreen gaming (e.g. 3 screens, 4 screens), it has a special Raytracing-rendering in an embedded engine which can be enabled or disabled, it has VR-support without glasses, it has 3DS-compatibility and more such functions nobody understands/has found yet. Another special function is the WiiU has an integrated AI-voice like sound-system. Able to speak to the user (Nintendoland) and read something. It can also listen to the microphone and even translate things from microphone and/or from text or from handwritten-texts.
While on Switch when you run Cfw, means you shut-off the official OS of Switch.
This means you LOSE official functions of Switch´s OS, which is why your games might run a bit better. Becasue your OS (Cfw) is less complex than that from Nintendo.
But on WiiU everything can run better too and you can even add functions to the OS. WITHOUT sacrifizing functions. Since you run all CFW on the OS of the machine. It´s not replacing it´s OS. The OS and all it´s functions are still running in the background.

If the industry respected Nintendo the WiiU would have done better. Adam Sessler put out a false narrative that crushed it out the door. Marketing wasn’t the best and 3rd party failed to deliver on games that were planned. So while Nintendo made mistakes the industry abandoned them and didn’t bother helping them like they would if it was Sony. The best thing about Nintendo is they have innovation& intellect and were able to take the mistakes from the WiiU and turn it into the Switch

When it comes to the Wii u. The fact that you can play Wii games made it a decent console. But the only problem with it was the Wii u controller needed to be in the same room or it will disconnect.

Switch is just so bland, not games included but the UI is just there. Wii U had charm and also nostalgia has a huge factor too. I think many people just miss being younger and being able to play their Wii U or 3DS and didn’t have to be an adult with responsibilities. I do miss the 2010s and the Wii U was apart of that.
I had a 3DS and was in my early 30's. Not everyone who had the 3DS or WiiU were young children and teenagers.
WiiU now even allows to run Themes with Music and animations...lol

Sorry but the switch is a reheated attempt at selling the Wii U, the switch is subpar, the joycons are trash, the online infrastructure is so bad you can't reliably play on it, the third party support doesn't matter if the games look like ps2 games that don't run well, the original 1st party spinoff games are down bad and you can't buy the retro games anymore
Why are people gassing the switch up?
Its the games like mario kart, splatoon, botw, pokemon games, and a shit load of unexpected 3rd party games and indies. Every once in a while you'll find a random port like the serious sam collection idk the switch is a cool little console and the fact its handheld is crazy.
The Switch is far superior to not just the Wii U but to even PS5 and Xbox because of its games and the online has gotten better and no graphics don’t look like PS3 graphics that’s the Wii U, you blind boob.

Switch isn´t a step-up from WiiU. It´s not even doing the same things like Miiverse, Miis and Amiibos. Wiiu`s OS can now even run ANIMATEd themes...See? On the OS not on some dumb Cfw like Switch does it (because lack of power).
Swich is some complete star up ffrom Zero again. A 3DS you could say. Just worse in some parts and better in terms of power/performance.
