@@craiggerhardstein7305 16 gb means more expensive. You have alot of money to buy a switch 2 with 16gb of ram. A great example is the steam deck. A standard steam deck is $400 dollars. The steam deck with an oled screen is $500 dollars. If you add accessories to the steam deck. It would cost even more.
This gotta be an april fools day article. I am by no mean a techhead but even i know that ram doesnt do anything with resolution. Besides the switch dock only outputs in 1080p and even the hdmi port is not 4k compatible iirc. Gpu = resolution Cpu= framerate Ram= (texture) loading
From what I heard, the OLED Switch's dock actually is 4K capable or something, unlike the original Switch dock, but the switch OLED itself isn't so it ends up being kinda useless. But I also heard that years ago not long after the OLED came out so that could be complete bollocks.
@@legoboy7107 maybe the new dock. But then still. More ram doesnt have anything to do with framerate or resolution. Sad part is that this youtuber never deleted bs videos or even adres them in a new vid
i dont think they were artificially limiting the games its more like the games were built to take advantage of more or less rem witch not not of any use to game devs becuse the switch only ever has 4 gb of ram and would just be useless code
I think it had to do with power consumption and one other thing. More ram usage drains more power. I think Nintendo wanted to purposely cap it at 4gb because of this. The other reason i believe was because Nintendo wanted to force developers to be more creative.
It’s because Dina sores never got experience with Animal Crossing or some wearing clothes. The other developers who were working on this game just wanted to try something new like Dinosaurs for another game’s popularity that came from Nintendo but in a different way that avoids texture copyright material and changing the name's title like using Dinosaurs than other animals. As well as including the character you play as also a Dinosaur that looks like your familiar Dinosaur residents instead of using a Human Character to play as. It could help Nintendo out with making a future Animal Crossing Product!
It was no secret that the tegra chip inside the switch could output 4k video maybe not games. Personally I don't care about 4k good running games is all I need. They didn't artificially make the Switch less powerful to make a future console look better, 8gb of ram may have been affordable but cheaper still to have 4gb. Nintendo unlike Sony and Microsoft like to make a profit on console sales not selling at a loss.
It can't. This guy literally has no clue what he's talking about. The tegra X1can theoretically stream 4k video. That's it. Trying to run games at 4k resolutions on it is pure idiocy. Nevermind that resolution is primarily constrained by the GPU not RAM. Nevermind that even after overclocking the system and doubling the RAM it still ran like ass. But hey, I guess being completely unplayable is perfectly fine because muh 4k.
They're talking about consumer off-the-shelf pricing, which is a complete arbitration. Manufacturing companies don't get that, they have to provide ACTUAL supply lines and can't just wait for discounts to balance the market. YOU can afford ram because it's essentially killing jobs like walmart killing mom and pop stores... it is ACTUALLY killing THE MANUFACTURING INDUSTRY in humane, non-chinese conditions. And now you want Nintendo to operate like a lemonade stand with USA as its daddy giving out these half-off consumer grade ram? No, it wouldn't have been even as cheap as raise the asking price of Switch by a $100, it's exponential cost at launch. And only to utilize the theoretical development design that it took 5 years to figure they CAN make, CAN make TOTK so well that it CAN run "just" with extra ram. Children: grow up. Get real jobs and manage real economies, don't just rely on these adSense cabals adn get lemonade stand money from Google. You're embarrassing.
I think you have to understand that Nintendo was reeling from the effects of the Wii U train wreck and probably didn't want to risk destroying their bottom line if the Switch was a flop.
Reeling? I don't think you understand just how much money Nintendo has my friend. The next FIVE systems could've flopped and they would STILL be billionaires
@@hellzonefirebrigade3056 No they wouldn't. It gives them a bit of security but that's about it. The switch was already a hail mary to turn things around. The notion that they could go thirty years burning through money and be fine is pure fanboy delusion.
No Zach, you didn't read that entire clip you even posted. They doubled the RAM *AND* overclocked the system. That's a major uptick in performance at the risk of reliability and damage, and that's not sustainable in a long run release. Not to mention you even said it wasn't even running very well. That's not a simple fix for anything other than cutting the system life to a fraction of what's intended. I'm already disappointed that their next system is already 2 years dated and they haven't even announced it yet, but common. I feel like you're intentionally overlooking the business element of this business you're covering today. Nintendo has always cut back on hardware. There's a big cost differential between their systems and others cause they want to sell affordable units as well as avoid being constantly sold out like the PS5 was. Performance, cost effective, quantity. Pick 2.
The Tegra X1 CPU is underclocked in the Switch, so overclocking (or unclocking) it shouldn't be an issue as long as it's in the safe range for the chip. I watched a video where they safely clocked it to 1.7GHz, which is a ~75% clock boost from stock speeds. Nintendo underclocked the CPU/GPU to preserve battery life, not necessarily for the longevity of the hardware.
No one gives a crap about Steam Deck not being 4K why is are people dunking on the Switch these days? I don't think it's all about the graphics I think it's more of "It's popular there for it sucks." I bet if the Steam Deck sold like that youtubers with lopsided hair would come out the dirt to make videos saying "Ohhh it's soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo overrated." "It's like totally not that great, the gunk I found between my toes from wearing slides all the time is better." Or something insane like that.
Switch can do 4K lol ? I first bought a Switch lite back in 2021 and this year I bought a Switch Oled , I think its the perfect pair because you can have 2 switches on the same account just the second Switch (which is now my lite) must stay connected to online to play your games since you can only have one Switch listed on Eshop and you have to delist the other one.
Maybe they'll pull an N64? Drop a console which is stronger than Switch but still under powered... but include a proprietary cartridge slot then at some point in the system's life cycle, sell a booster/ expansion pack which doubles the ram.

If they added RAM in the OLED? they'd have 3rd party games become OLED exclusive, they most likely wanted to avoid that.
