- Jolene received a message from a guy who recently bought a property that came with an abandoned pickup truck. The guy thought it was a 1944 Ford but there's no such thing so we came out to take a look at it. Looks like it's a 1945 Chevy pickup truck

I love that model Chev Pickup. I was going to buy the Aussie version of one back in the 80s but lost my job between when I went to look at it and when I was going back to get it. To say I was not happy with my employer at the time who promised me the job was permanent would be an understatement.

1943 and 1944 vehicles do exist if built for the War effort, but they are rare. Publicly available cars were stopped till after the war.
thousands of pickups were built each year during the war for farm and government use, i owned a 45 GMC and met a merchant marine who worked at the Wilson truck body plant during the war when he was not out to sea, all GM pickups had the wood floor installed by Wilson.
I'm coming to the end of a 46 Chevy pickup build
It got a 572 bbc and turbo 400
The tin on it was extremely thin for some reason compared to Ford's and others of the same years .
The guy im building it for was 9 years old when his dad bought it new .
He said on the way home the passenger door flew open going around a corner and his mom grabbed him before flying out .
I give it bear claw latches when I was doing the restoration .
It will be interesting to see how you attack this one .

If I'm not mistaken the 44 Chevy truck had a painted steel grille just like that. The 45 looked similar but the grille was plated.

44 and 45 they sold some to the government but civilian production didn't start till 46, 41s had 1 windshield wiper ,46s had 2

Chad & Jolene, you could take the 2nd cab ( firewall, front window and A pillars ) laying out back there in the grass and hang it on the wall in the new shop. Hook up some headlights and it would make a great wall art piece. Santa loves rusty junk for wall art.

That’s a ‘41 or a ‘46. They didn’t make very many from ‘42 to ‘45 due to the war. The VIN tag is on the right side of the cowl down by the fender. I have one in my driveway.

Add about five minutes and 30 seconds, the video showed army green color near the recess in the firewall. That and being a 45 if that’s what it is would sound right. That door was in real good shape, I think.

I'm surprised they didn't discuss who was going to sort thru all the trash to get it out of there. That's a lot of work. There's a lot Chad can't see with all the crap piled on it. I'm not trying to be mean, but the guy should at least clear a path. $400 is fair.

I would of never passed on that truck with all its parts I would of paid a far price just to take that home there super worth the time and work the end result is amazing and they hold a high price tag if you wanted to sale that you never pass on a 1946 Chevy truck you was lucky to get that opportunity to even buy one in that condition now days there always too expensive or none existing if it had paper work even better that was a gold mine the guy wanted it gone you was lucky that day brother Chad and did not even know what you walked away from I love the show I love every thing but them trucks are worth every penny in the fabrication world with your magic that was a perfect starting point even if you just got it for another time but to pass on it wow I could not sleep if I passed on a 1946 Chevy truck no way bro
Everything has potential. It all depends on how much time, money and labour you want to invest in it. Even a basket case needs a little love.

400? Lowballer. Cabs alone of that vintage are 800 to thou. With a Mustang II front end installed? Man,you are something.

A 45 would have had a painted grill, painted headlight rings, painted hood side trim, that was how war time trucks were built, in 46 all those pieces would be chrome or stainless.

My suggestion for the color is maroon.
Chevy did not build trucks for civilian use or purchase due to the war. It is most likely a 1942 or 1946

I've got a 40. Cabs are similar but have slight differences
