Extended "catwalk" panel fabrication + lowering the front suspension 😍

- Today we're going to fabricate and apply the "catwalk" panel between the trunk and the rear window. Since we moved the entire rear window ahead when we chopped the roof 8 inches the catwalk will be extended. This will make the roof look like a coupe roof instead of a sedan roof. While Doug and Chad work on the catwalk, Nathan is going to lower the front suspension by cutting the coil spring. Here comes the visual we've been waiting for... 😍

Bonus video tonight on Jolene’s channel ➡️ czcams.com/video/pIjDxbCDXPM/video.htmlsi=lZ_5IritbVEX0s-K
I would have leveled the rear of the frame before making the second cut on the coils. That lean in the front could have been caused by a leaf spring issue and leveling the frame will show if the front was actually level or not but hey, I'm another guy on the internet with an opinion (been doing this for about 46 years). I like where the car is going and the chop really gives the car a better stance. Getting the rear of the car dropped will add to the enhancement (as Victor Cacho calls it lol).
The car looks cool and has really nice lines. It’s easy to forget what it looked like before being chopped and lowered. Nate did well removing, cutting and refitting the front springs twice within an hour. He sure can get things done.
Hi Team Hiltz, the car is really looking good so far with the roof chop and the front end lowered. Chad & Doug the cat walk looks really good to me and it will look even better when the left side is adjusted and all the welding is done. Nate did a great job lowering the front end, I think it is absolutely perfect where it is at. Jolene did a great job on the video and giving us a clear view the entire time of the work being done.
Great 👍 job again awesome. Love 50's style cars chop channel lowered we need louvers to make it a bad bad mover
Hey all! Very happy with the look of the car now! Nathan sure knows his buisness that's for sure. Hope the green paint job doesn't happen ,maybe a dark blue or a nicer black would look good. Anyway ,good job filming Jolene and hope Fina girl is ok!
I have to admit I was very skeptical at first as I was thinking you were taking too much off the top. I really thought you'd run into a hell of a lot more problems than you did. I'm very stoked how the car looks now as it has a gangster look about it now. Great job putting the rear window back on and reconstructing the catwalk and doors. When it's completely lowered it's going to look killer. The car actually has some style now instead of looking like a rolling brick.
I honestly have to marvel at the way can take even a great looking vehicle and make it look even better. However I do wish at times that he would totally strip everything bare and using new parts create vehicles that will last for years to come so that people could see and indeed appreciate his brilliant mind and vision. Of course I in no way mean to take anything away from his pure genius in creating masterpieces from using everything around him to produce absolute a very much desired vehicle
Hi Chad, I did the same thing on my 55 Chev - cut a coil off each front spring. This is NOT the same as buying new lowered springs. The spring will have one less coil so it will be softer as well as shorter. If you buy a new spring, it will still have the same number of coils but set closer together. This means it will be lower but still have the same spring strength (bounce).
She's looking good! Cheers, Tony
Hi James, pre-load will be higher with a cut spring which will then go towards a "stiffer" spring in your scenario of cutting half the coils off - TRUE. If you only cut one coil off, the pre-load is increased but not enough to reach the "stiffer" part of the spring compression - effectively giving you a softer spring bounce but for a shorter distance than standard before it becomes "stiffer" under normal driving conditions.@@james-ew7kl
Looks great so far guys! Only thing I would do which I know you were trying to avoid is maybe putting a smaller window in the back to be more uniform with the rest of the window openings. Either way looks great and I enjoy watching you do what you do and doing it your way not anyone else’s!
Chad is a master of his craft.
Not many customs he has done that I didn't like.
Always amazing work!
I think Doug had a good idea making the panel a full piece under the hinges
I have to admit I’m not a huge fan of a some of the chop tops I see but this one is looking pretty good. One other thing I’d like to say from an old guy that likes working on cars to some other old guys working on cars… KNEE PADS it hurts just watching you guys. Great job. Keep up the good work.
You guys have definitely turned a simple old car into a sleek hot rod. Love watching you guys create beautiful cars.
Really like the sleek look of the roof and trunk of this car. Can’t wait to see what Chad has in mind for the rear quarters.
VERY impressed with what Doug and Nate have brought to the build !! Lots of EXPERTISE and KNOWLEDGE 😂🎉😊
Great job the chop is perfect fits the car well once the back is lowered there is 2 things I'd love to see some bubbled fender skirts and a set of lake pipes on the side and you with a van neck whitetee shirt with a pack of pall malls rolled up in one sleeve and Jolene in a poodle skirt and that would really be a cool picture that would really look like it was taken in the 50s I really love that car. Your friend from Louisiana Rick 427
Looks great. Back in 1950, almost every man & woman wore a hat. The car roof heights needed to allow for space for the hats. By the late 50s, hats were becoming less commonplace & continued to decline through the 60s to where they were usually only worn as part of a uniform.
Your correct, look at the 57 T-Bird not much head room there.
Looks like a real car.
Thanks for sharing with us.
Yes…none of the guys on the build are wearing hats….
@@TopQGuy what ? They’re all wearing hats.
A convertable top would solve the hat problem. That way, ya got room for a hat plus ya dont need a hat to drive one.Or maybe just a retractable sunroof.
Man you guys are awesome. The car is looking so good. Nate is BADASS at the mechanics and Doug is BADASS overall. Loving how this car is looking compared to the original. Keep up the great work fellas. And Jolene you are amazing at your camera work.
My best friends dad built a 50 Mercury chopping 6” out of the roof and 6” out of the body removed all chrome paint ed flat black, door handle/ button remove and placed under car to be opened using the toe of his boot, had rail road steel inside the frame and 300 pounds of cement poured in the trunk powered by a flat head ford with eight two barrel carbs all built while in the service as a mechanic using shop equipment drove for two years before having a blow out at 100 mph though a pine thicket
This was in the mid 1950’s
The chop makes the car look a lot sleeker. Great job!!
I have a hard time to see how easy you chop a car and it looks like it came from the factory and do it in 4 days so cool one question are you going to put spotlites on the front by the windshield that would be one of the little things that makes it pop even though the car pops now
😂 You are killing it , Great Job ! 💪
I love watching Chad work his magic with the metal and Jolene do her magic with the camera.
Never have seen a car top chopped......thanks for these videos....70 years old and finally getting to see the work that goes into chopping a top on a car
For those that don't know cutting front spring's are a temporary low look, but after awhile driving it around the cut spring's will get weaker and you will get a bouncy ride.
Getting some lowering spring's or drop spindles is the way to go. You have to get the right shocks to!
I have tried all 3 methods. The drop spindles was the best ride other than air bags even air bags have there pros vs cons.
Drop spindles are for everyday use/driving.
If you use a torch it changes the temper. if you cut slow with a razor wheel it doesn’t
stiffer ride for sure@@JeromeSheriff-hw4yb
Ya but drop spindles are spendy.
That car is gonna look like it came from the factory when you get it gets painted. Wow
Love it coming together very nice as always imo this one needs to end up on bags and fully finished paint/interior
That’s one of the best looking chops you have done. Like it👍🏻
Man what a kool ride, that baby has the look. Going fast while standing still. Happy New Year.
Boy-o-boy, even Mr. FORD would have been proud of that look! Thanks for showing us how it's done. From Michigan 😅
Great job! I think eliminating the hinges will really enhance the roof and trunk lines to look very sleek.
Like this build
Wow you’re a true artist! Love watching your channel and Jolene is a great camera person.
Jolene is the camera person but most important she is the producer. Chad is the artist but someone has to plan all this out.
It's looking great Chad, Nate, Doug and of course Jolene 👍
Iv been watching from the night y'all picked it up..iv wonded what the owners has thought or if they may have commented on what y'all are doing with the car........ I like it...... from south GA
Chad bringing the two guys working with you is great and makes for a better view for us 😀
Doug did a great job making the pattern for the panel. And looks great.
The shoe box is just a fun car. My grandpa had a few of these when i was a kid and one that had smoke comin into the cabin from an oil leak but it was just a fun car. I can still smell that car ride.
It is really coming together now and looking good . I like the front end being lowered.
Best chop on a shoe box ever gooooood job boys
Is shoebox for is looking fantastic. See you on the catwalk. Anybody else remembers outline from the 1980s song. 🤣🤣
Amazing work! looks great.
I like the look of the roofline, but in my non expert opinion I think the rear window should be lowered so that the top of the rear window matches the height of the door windows.
Totally enjoying this custom work. Keep her rollin
You're making this this old Ford look really good. Thank you.
It is great to watch Chad and the team work, the results are always amazing!
Beeeautiful Job here Chad! I can vizualize it in candy red w/chrome wheels and lake pipes. Rock on u two!
Hope you two had a great Christmas
The stance of the car looks great as it is❤
Another awesome transformation by Team FANTASTIC FOUR 😊😊❤
Wow we just might get to see this build finished.
Yo Chad ..you should do a side by side pic of builds you do so they everyone can really see how much you are really customing these cara
Coming along really well. A good look too. Well done men .chad good chop.
Some long '48 Mercury fender skirts would make this complete. Nice !!
Production has definitely stepped up a notch 👌🏻 love it!
I was hoping Chad would get some cordless tools for Christmas!!! lol
This is one sexy ride. Love how Chad has solved the issue with the doors and the back window. This is going to look awesome. lets hope it does go to paint.
Chad I really like the way this car is turning out. .When you paint it paint it with an eye pooping color.
Love the way this is turning out
That looks sharp!
Chad tell Nate that he could have removed the 6 rivet that hold the lower mount spring and put spacers in there like he does in the rear. I had a custom 52 Ford convert ( chopped 6 in) that we did that to and the ride never got effected. the other thing every thing is still stock. I'm not complaining I'm just telling you another way of doing it like you keep telling us. Doing a nice job. I wish you was around when I was messing with old car 30 years ago. I have learnt a lot of next tricks watching. Ever get time look up Dave Lenhart 52 Ford. It's on the net. I didn't build it just added to it and redone. I found it stripped rusted and no motor or Trans. Dave
Anyone that complains about this beauty has rocks in their head ..this is looking brilliant..love the look
The catwalk looks awesome
The car is really looking good , But you don't need me to tell you that . The way you chop that roof is awesome ! keep up the good work team Hiltz !
Believe this one going to be superb also. Salute, appreciate the work yall do.
Love the lines of this car, looks great so far
Good evening from Sydney Australia. Loving your work and explanations of tge why something is done.
Filming by queen jolene is awesome too.
Merry christmas and happy new year to all.
Regards Terry
That the best panel Ive seen you do good job, I watch every day
Back in my teenage days this would be called a lead sled😊
This is what I like to see just straight forward getting the job done and not doing anything you don't need to.
The chop is looking very nice Team Hiltz thanks for sharing with us Jolene!!
As always wonderful video to watch enjoyed watching the custom take shape
Cool build hitz gang
This is looking cool!
That's gonna. Be sweet looking when you get that panel welded in.cant wait to see it.
I don't care what anyone says. That looks sick. Slam it, lakewood side pipes, new Matt black paint with Old Old School red and white flames and new red paint on the wheels would look absolutely insane. Can't wait to see what you have in store for us.
Excellent job on the car guys your all doing a fantastic job and the car is really looking cool I really do like the way you are going with it. Keep up the great work all of you 👍 👏
You do such a good job Chad, and your so meticulous with your work, why don't you lead fill these lovely old cars? , don't they deserve it?
It just seems like you cheap skate the last bit. Don't get me wrong, I'm in awe of some of the things you achieve. But like this build, you said your gonna fill around from the back window to the new panel...........😢 I know it cheaper and quicker but where then do you draw the line.
Love your work, just saying. 😊
Regards
Neil
Great teamwork by everyone
Looks really nice 👌
Looking good guy's, Looking out in Bone Yard see if have Different Hinges to cover that up.Maybe Something Art Deco Style
Car looks fantastic! Merry Christmas all! 🎅🎄🎶🎉
That hot chip should be broken in 3 and the 3 boys should eat it together!😅
I like the full width catwalk, the lines all flow together better.
Looking Good!
I love this chop! I hope Chad keeps to his word at the beginning of this build and painting it. What about a pole with the subscribers and viewers on the colour.
Great progress.
Shaping up nicely
Looks great guy's
Damn that truly looks great with the catwalk in I love it.that truly set it off.keep on keeping on
I really hope this one goes to paint ...bad chad makes bad ass cars
What a great outcome it looks seamless.
Door posts look great
Welcome back Doug and Nate. Looking good Chad great video work Jolene 👍 ❤
love to see this ride a deep purple...or a deep green
Love the way Jolene vid it! Cam angles are soo cool!
It's no longer a shoe box shape. it's got a really cool slope at the cat walk trunk line. It looks a bit like a fast back. Very nice line. Make sure you have a lot of milk ready for Doug if he's crazy enough to try that chip, and maybe a pail for when it comes back up. I've seen reports that those chips are insanely hot, to the point that people want them taken off the market. Beware, hotter than the hubs of hell!!
the shop door is a huge upgrade; looks awesome!
Looking really nice.
How about french headlights and tail lights?
I like the look of this car a lot . This era of vechile had style
From front three quarters view it almost looks like a MERC, Lavender Pearl, candy Indigo Blue, to purple flames, pinstriped in Silver Orion Pearl, which would be the base color laid down for the flames , tunnel the tailights, canted quad headlights up front, shave the door handle, go continental kit, lakes pipes, skirt it and deep dis chrome reverse wheels, dice valve caps, purple and rolled interior, skull shifter, dice dash knobs, lone wolf car club plaque on the "catwalk", with one of those blinker stuff cats, the eyes blinked with the turn signals, a tube grill, Gremlin blinkers, and roll and pleat the wheel wells, trunk to match the interior, I can draw it for you, if you'd like, I have a killer idea for the flames a one of design, Vilio Custom Paint @ design .
Good evening everyone hope you all had a wonderful holidays
