Mario Yamasaki is one of the most hated UFC referees because over a 13-year span as a UFC referee, he made several horrible mistakes, including not noticing Frank Trigg's clear groin strike over Matt Hughes at UFC 52, pausing the fight between victor valimaki and alessio sakara, Giving Erick Silva a disqualification loss in the UFC over allegedly illegal punches to the back of the head to Carlo Prater, Letting Glover Teixeira dominate and punish Fabio Maldonado for 2 rounds straight, awkwardly stepping in between Cody Garbrandt and Augusto Mendes, not noticing Alex Oliveira's tap to Donald Cowboy Cerrone, letting Derrick Lewis punch and knockout Travis Browne with several unanswered shots, a horrible stoppage between Michael Chiesa and Kevin Lee, and letting Valentina Shevchenko punish Priscillla Cachoeira.
Dana White has had many bad things to say about Mario Yamasaki including that he is "disgusting" and "has no business reffing fights" on UFC Tonight on Fox.

No because make videos that are correct. Because he clearly see a couple of them the guy did hit the other guy in the back of the head and you say it wasn't. Fake news.
No.

No
CZcams throwing your shit in my face, now your throwing your empty wallet at our face. No thanks. Talk to youtube about your advertisments that nobody is seeming to enjoy
He did punch 2-3 times in the back of the head. Yamasaki called that right.. Kevin Lee call was also correct. But we can't oversee his worst calls that easily could have ended up with loss of life. But for most of his 20+ year career he did actually do a good job.
Agreed about the fact that in the vid you can clearly see at least 2 illegal blows to the back of the head. And about the fact that mostly he did good. Though as with people and experiences in life - few bad times, sadly (or luckily?), are enough to deem one unworthy.
How was the Kevin Lee call correct? Chiesa didn’t tap and wasn’t unconscious. You can’t stop a fight assuming a choke is going to finish the fight
@@Romanus- he was not defending in the way he described in the post fight interview he relaxed his shoulders
"that doesn't look like the back of the head to me man" as the replay shows him getting hit in the back of the head. How much of a douche do you have to be to ambush the ref like that and not even bothering to really look closely at the replays first come on Rogan.
@@phoenixssbm that's irrelevant tho. Cant just stop it cause you assume he'll go out. Getting choked asleep doesn't do any damage, why not let him go out then stop it?
Mario telling an unconscious Travis Brown to protect himself still is funny to this day

@jabron.destoroyahwhy’s that?
@jabron.destoroyahwasn’t he banging Rousey while he was still married? Dude it’s a a freakin scumbag, and I loved how Derrick explained it.
Lol he must be high or something
That or Tarverdyan screaming HEAD MOUVEMENT! HEAD MOUVEMENT!, really what is the difference.
Tbh I feel like yamasaki made the right call when it came to the shots to the back of the head. Joe Rogan was incredibly unprofessional just going right up to him and ambushing him with the mic, especially because Yamasaki had not seen the replay and Joe had. It ended up making Yamasaki look incompetent when it was arguably the right call to make.
One of those shots did hit the back of his head but the majority were to the side so Mario did argue ably make the right call.
Nothing unprofessional in confronting bad calls, in fact it needs to be regularly done in all organized sports, especially at the pro level.
@@teddyjackson1902 the whole point was that it isnt a bad call. so to rush to the ref questioning his logic when hes correct is unprofessional. 2 illegal shots to the head, somethings gotta be called.
@@teddyjackson1902wrong

Half of these weren’t that bad. The one where I feel like people overreacted was the triangle choke between the cowboys because when he tapped cerrone instantly pointed to it and he jumped in a second after. Plus in that fight he had just sunk the choke in so he had at least 5 seconds of consciousness before going dark.
Yeah that wasn’t bad AT ALL, also there were definitely shots to the back of the head mixed with shots that weren’t in the Silva fight (he was juiced to the gills anyway and fell off big time after USADA)
And Lee had that choke LOCKED in and Chiesa also looked like he tapped
I agree, I stopped after the cowboy triangle choke, thinking some of these weren't that bad, he called it 2 seconds after the tap, what else would he do?
@@SWWondersYeah the travis brown one was a bad one but not insane ,matt hughes one was the worst one..He also had one with brock lesnar. But by no way is he the worst reff..Mazzaagatii was way worse ..Plus herb has had many such incidents too ,with lawler askren ,khabib conor ..But dana likes herb so he will make excuses for him whenever he fks up.
Exactly. More than half. Although, I could only make it 3/4 of the way through because of the bullshit. So 1/2 may be accurate. The hate for Mario comes from White's big mouth. And because most of the fans are idiots who have never even tried martial arts, they get their opinions from their ass.
Yea he wasn't that bad at all
I'm not a big UFC fan but most of these mistakes seem reasonable. If you stop a fight too early people get mad, if you let them fight a little longer people get mad.
You just can't please everyone.
Exactly lol. I feel like the criticism even led to those early and late stoppages.
Mistakes weigh more in a sport where the integrity of the fighter's brain is at stake
Mario was arguably the top ref for a while. Shame that a few bad days have tarnished his 20+ year career.
Fr fr. Most of these aren't even that horrible. Yes, he definitely had a few blown or bad calls but when you're an official for that long you're going to miss things sometimes
Memes ruined him. Also Dana's winy azz
FEW??? FEW is enough to kill someone. even FEW is too much for the potential of death... that's why the organization is harsh on these matters...
Yeah, that's why I said it's a shame. He was very good for a very long time until those FEW FEW FEW days.
For real. I always remembered him as one of the better ones. Him, big john, and herb dean. Herb is starting to get this treatment too which is beyond insane to me. The only one that I truly never liked was Mazagatti. That guy sucked.

@@Dave-nt8yt 100
At least one of the shots on Valimaki WAS to the back of the head. When you slow it down, its more clear that most of them werent, but Mario sees a shot to the back of the head and a lot of shots nearby and makes a call. We can argue whether it was the right call, but its a justifiable call. Man got ambushed by Joe Rogan and shit on by the fans that he was more lenient during fights and got shit on for that too.
Yeah, you can't win as a referee. Too strict, people get angry for a ruined show. Too lenient and you're a monster.

Definitely don’t think he deserves the title as the worst referee, he’s human and makes mistakes like the rest of us. Good to see he owns up to his mistakes!
His mistakes could cause permanent injuries and even death. Thats is what a bad referee could do,disable another guy.
His mistakes can cause people to Rhys seriously injured or die.
The girls fight is no mistake
Steve mazzagatti is far worst
@user-qv8pg8gb5o
This video could be for any referee boxing or mma.
. Shit Mills Lane is regarded as one of the best referees in boxing. And he didn’t dq Mike Tyson until the second ear bite. And was trying to have the action continue.
He also let Oliver McCall walk around crying and not fighting back against Lennox Lewis.
Dqd akinwande for clinching.
Those are just 3 bizzarrr calls from a ball of fame ref. Of his career many early stoppages and way late stoppages
That PR nightmare seems to be what ended him. You do NOT referee with a fighter/warrior's ideals, you referee in the ideals of ruling/wellbeing. Whoever told him to say 'allow to be a warrior' has to be the worst PR person out there.
Mario "If his heartbeat ain't gone, The fight is still on" Yamasaki
That Matt Hughes fight where Matt was illegally struck in the groin, was insane! To be able to survive that, and then pick up, run the length of the octagon, slam and submit the opponent is amazing!
That was a great comeback. Had to be satisfying for Hughes, especially after all the shit Trigg was talking leading up to that fight. One of my favourite ppvs.
Matt Hughes was on another level when he was in his prime.
In fairness, its a very tough job, and I wouldn't like to do it. One bad call and it can cost someone their health. No matter how good anyone is at their job they're gonna have off days. So split second decisions are sometimes going to go wrong for anyone. Including Dana
To be fair there was a strike to the back of his head but a single strike on a rolling opponent at most would be a warning.
I saw the same. Aah… Didn’t realize one strike is just a warning.
@smoke8326 it is when a opponent is actively rolling . You can't judge how much or how little he gonna roll mid strike .
They would hate me as a ref or rule maker I wouldn't warn or remove points from the attacker but from the rolling to break the attack with drawing a illegal blow its no different than lbj flopping in my eyes
Dana: you in there to protect her from her self.
Also Dana: inventing Power Slap after power slapping his wife
She slapped him first...
@@Necroverse19 True. That's probably what made him think of the competitive aspect.
I also don't mind the Chiesa call..Chiesa looked freaking gone..you have to make a split second decision..why didn't Chiesa close his eyes? that won't help you escape.
He also flailed his arms like he wanted to tap but couldn't
Chiesa was out cold for 1 or 2 seconds. Mario made the correct call.
came to write that
chiesa looked like he was out, eyes all messed up
The Kevin Lee one wasn’t bad at all. He stopped defending the choke, arms go stiff. Even if you want to argue that he didn’t tap. He wasn’t defending himself properly and basically accepted the he was gonna go. It’s no different from Aldo just laying there covering up or Adesanya just weaving his head while he’s clearly out of it.
I disagree. Did you see his explanation. I do see your point, but the difference is, with a choke he's not absorbing devastating blows as your examples do. The issue is the damage doesn't occur until he goes to sleep. There is no accumulation. It's awake and asleep. So I can understand his concern but this isn't the standard, it's not as dangerous to let him sleep, and it's ultimately his calculated risk
it literally looks like he's trying to tap on the left arm but unable to coordinate himself
if you don't want the ref to stop the fight while you're being submitted, don't make ambiguous actions that can be interpreted as submitting
it was a marginal but correct call
@@lionelrivera_MMA the damage would be if you hold onto the choke while they are still passed out and they’ll be dead at that point
I agree. Chiesa looked like he was going unconscious when Mario stepped in.
@@lionelrivera_MMA respectfully, I saw his explanation, but he doesn’t do any of that while he’s getting choked. His shoulders never go up, the choke is locked in, and it looks like he’s about to tap or pass out. This dude isn’t good at reffing at all so I hate to go to bat for him but that call honestly wasn’t bad.
Yamasaki seems like a truly nice man. That being said, he just was not cut out for the referee job where split second decisions need to be made. It’s like he freezes when choices need to be made.
Anybody stop to think that maybe Mario was high AF during these fights? Dude probably stayed lit
"He just wasn't cut out for the refferee job" even though he's been a refferee for over 700 fights? How is that possible then, that would mean the Ufc got a guy who's not made for being a refferee and then just casually let him be the refferee in 700 fights... sure thing m8. He made mistakes in not even 30 fights yet did great in over 700, that means 96% positive rate 4% negative rate... meaning he's still a top tier refferee who maybe lost his spark
Nah dude he was a good ref. A couple fights called in error out of over 700 fights is not a bad mark on someone's career. That's like saying a fighter who had a good long career is a bad fighter for throwing a low blow in one fight. Shit happens, especially in the fight he called with the low blow. His eyes more than likely were focusing on their upper body where they were tangled up as well as his angle of view compared to the judges who basically have every angle since they see what the cameras see.
magnified ever time he did make a mistakes that's only human , just made his spilt second calls less spilt second.
Damn good video! Yamasaki's biggest mistake was talking to the media. It's okay to make mistakes, we're human. If you try to explain yourself, you're in real trouble. There is worse ref's in the UFC!
That’s what I thought when watching the video. These “blunders” aren’t really that bad. If you’ve never reffed anything, you are disqualified from giving your opinion. It is WAY harder than it looks from your couch.
Doood! I dont know if you even realize how true that is. I have experience with talking to the media. It gets crazy nasty with those turds. They bend and twist everything you say and demonize aybody they can for ratings.
Steve Mazzagatti is much worst
For real. The Lewis one was ridiculous, but some others are not as bad as I remembered. But still, these guys probably make the most money among all refs, so the less mistakes, the better. I think we will get more and more good refs as time goes by
Idk he said 4 mistake and thats just a flat out lie. He constantly freezed up when it mattered most and thats why people hated him. not those big mistake that he owned up on
I always thought Mazzagatti was the true king of bad calls...
I would agree with that thought. Mazzagatti had wayy more that 4 bad calls/stoppages.
Totally agree with that
Yeah for sure
yall are a bit to harsh to Mario... He was just trying to please everyone who complained and that was his problem
I thought he was being pretty fair to Mario in the end
@@JoeTheChicken26 he was! I meant people in General where going pretty hard on him just for few mistakes that in the end didnt even realy effect something in the longrun
Perhaps but two ends of extremes are never good.
He had far more terrible moments than were in this video, some worse. I laughed when he said “the last one” given how I despise Mario’s calls from a bunch of fights not in this video.
See here’s the thing
It doesn’t matter how many good calls you make, because making good calls is simply doing your job. What matters is each and every bad decision you make, because as a referee, your mistakes change lives.
“If he dies he dies…”
Lol.
Me and my friend are always looking for times to shoehorn in Ivan Drago quotes so I especially appreciate this.
I feel like on the second one where he calls the time out he was in the right to a degree. The fighter whose mouthpiece fell out visibly did the hand T time out signal, dropped his hands, and turned completely away from his opponent. Even if the mouth guard didn’t fall out and the ref saw that he should’ve jumped in.
And on number 3, those are just obviously illegal shots. Those punches are visibly, on the camera, in front of all our eyes, landing directly center on the back of his head. I counted 3 clean shots that I would definitely consider illegal. Joe Rogan has no idea what he’s talking about. Yamasaki even says “that’s not the back of the head?” While it freeze frames on a huge hammer fist to the spinal column.
Exactly I thought the same thing for the third fight. Even in the live camera angle u can still see punches going to the back of the head
He is mostly a good ref who has had a few bad nights. unfortunately when it comes to fighting safety is the difference between life and death. The Kevin lee fight was not a bad stoppages at all. Quiesa stood no chance he was not getting out of that choke.
Perhaps but we'll never know
@@lionelrivera_MMA nah bro...not a fan of Yamasaki but Chiesa was tightly locked in that choke...
Lol no
@lionelrivera_MMA you just don't want to believe it 😂 yea im sorry man but you are in denial. I'm definitely not subscribing.
@@jabron.destoroyah you can clearly see his arm and leg siezing up
He has made the same mistakes ALL refs make at some point when they are reffing big fights. I don't think he is any worse or better than any ref that has called as many fights as he has. Herb makes some crazy mistakes and he is considered the best of the best, the difference is he doesn't speak about it too much. Mario should have stayed of Twitter.
You can’t compare Herb to Mario 😂😂the disrespect 💀
@@darylnyame916 herb dean has also made some absolutely terrible decisions too. He isn’t perfect, no ref is perfect. None of these refs are as bad as Steve mazagatti
Its just HOW bad some of his late AND early calls were
The Chiesa vs. Lee stoppage I can understand, because it looked like Chiesa was trying to tap, but very weakly like he was about to loose consciousness. That doesn't let Yamasaki off the hook for the rest of the blunders tho, especially Trigg's groin strike (that he obviously noticed, but did nothing about), and letting Cachoeira's and Maldonado's faces getting completely mashed to bits.
Rubber arm taps are still taps
yeah I thought the same about the Chiesa fight, I even replayed it because it looked like he tapped and at least from the angle on tv, I would have stopped it there to because I saw what to me looked like a tap
and also with erick silva, I do think I saw one shot land to the back of the head, but it was one shot.... should have been a verbal warning, and not a dq for sure
chiesa was for sure tapping that choke was tight and he has been submitted since then by other people with the same choke. might be his achilles heal he just doesnt want to admit it
even thou he's not tapping t looks lie he's about to fade with 2 or 3 secs.. that choke were f'n deep..
It looked like Michael Chiesa tapped out. There’s no way this is a bad stoppage
Imagine Mario Yamazaki being a pro wrestling referee
He'll be the heel referee who justs overlooks what the bad guys are doing and he screws the good guys big time
He'd let the bad guys land lowblows and DQs the good guy when the good guy's manager complains.
@@YellowPlagueProductions if the good guy hits the finish, Mario counts slowly…very…slowly while the opposite happens when the bad guy pins his opponent. If a foot or hand is placed on the rope, Mario ignores it (that would happen to the good guys while he won’t hesitate to count the bad guy’s pinfall if his opponent’s feet are on the ropes. If someone accidentally hits Mario, it’s an instant DQ.
@@MikeBandada In a cage match, if one guy climbs out first, Mario will still declare the other guy the winner cus he was technically already outside of the cage before the match started.
In a tables match, if a guy does a diving attack to break his opponent through the table, Yamasaki will say the guy receiving the blow is the winner cus the diver's body also touched the table when it broke.
In a royal rumble, the last man in the ring is still declared the loser because he was technically outside the ring when the match started.
@@YellowPlagueProductions If ever Mario gets knocked out and a substitute referee counts the winning pinfall, Mario would have the decision reversed because according to him, only the referee assigned by the company to handle the match has the final say in the match, his call is the one that must be acknowledged and if another referee besides the assigned referee officiates the match, all the calls he made would be rendered null and void!
He would of been more than happy to do the Montreal Screwjob without McMahon being there ringside 😂😂😂
Guys, I understand that it sounds like I'm holding a burp in the entire video. Not sure what the audio issue is, but that is NOT what I sound like 🤣
First and foremost, this video is just false.
The most hated UFC Referee is Steve Mazzagatti.... just because most "true fight fans" werent around back in the old days doesnt mean he wasnt the worst or the most hated.
Dude would just do NOTHING at all, Yamasaki only stepped in to late.
*Edit: Saw you replying to comments about the topic, in that case no worries.
Everything you say sounds like a question....
it sounds like uptalk, which is not an audio issue its an issue with how you talk. if you don't have much experience recording your own voice, you never sound like what you think. Never. too nasally might be EQ, muddy might be reverb- those are audio issues. You just got in your head while recording this and it came out funny I think. not a big deal, it takes practice! 👍
Awesome video! If you need some more controversy, he also lied about getting his black belt. I’ve been a black belt now for 22 years and I heard stories back when I began in 2001 of him getting run out of seminars by legit BlackBelts. The guy he claims he received his black belt from his no longer alive so no one can disprove him.
My coach triangled Mario on his very first day of jiujitsu back in like 98. Mario supposed to be a BlackBelt at this time.
I cant heard that. Good video man, congrats!
Chiesa one, imo, was justified. Dude was legit on the way to going out. And he comepletely stopped defending it
Yamasaki is a 4th degree BJJ black belt, and also a black belt in Judo. He comes from a family of martial artists, has been training since he was a child, him and his brother own multiple BJJ academies, where Mario is the head coach. He’s literally the most experienced and knowledgeable ref in the game.
He has no striking exp, which makes sense why almost all of his bad calls are related to striking/ground and pound.

I agree with Dana White. But Yamasaki should have been banned sooner. Bc I’m surprised that Priscila Cachoeira was able to walk away from a 4-to-230 punch difference, from Valentina Shevchenko landing so many of those punches to her head. That was tough to watch, and Yamasaki’s excuse was absolutely despicable. Bc it gave me chills to think that Shevchenko landed 230 punches her opponent’s 4 in return to realize that she should submit her to win the match. That is psychotic. Bc Amanda Nunes vs Miesha Tate was also one-sides beat down that only took maybe a handful of jabs landed before Nunes ended the match via a submission. 🙏🏽

Part of what makes him so bad is he’s all over the place. Some refs are known for stopping fights a little late, some a little early but at least they are consistent. Like an ump that consistently calls his strike zone a little wide. This guy honestly doesn’t seem to know what he’s doing so each mistake is an over correction to the last mistake. Back and forth.
I love your shorts, you should upload more long form content.
Thanks my friend!
When that fight happened I did think Chiesa was in the middle of his first tap, his left hand wavered about to fall then looked like it was in the middle of the first tap, still stopped it too early but not the worst for sure. Remember that Kris Moutinho fight talk about fights that should have been stopped that was pretty brutal.
I can defend a good 2/3 of these, but that one, it 100% looks like a failed tap. I’d have called that.
The punches was cleary behind the back of the head, Erick didnt derserve to get disqualified but id say no contest also he didnt see the low blow on matt huges. We need him back. Honestly. We needed him last night too
There was one to the back of the head. But it should’ve been a warning and not a stoppage.
Props to u for that last bit you put a lot of perspective into the matter and were fair
I absolutely want to see the video of Steve Mazzagatti after you make it. He gave Jones his only loss. That fight should've been stopped, but he stood there and let Matt Hamill gets destroyed.
God I was trying to look up Steve Mazagati when I stumbled upon this video lmao thanks for reminding me
Yeah I really don't understand how Mario is considered the most hated and worst when mazzagatti still roams the Earth.
He also stood up Brock for one shot to the back of Mir's head and took a point while he was possibly winning that first. Not to mention Brock almost losing his knee because Steve didn't stop it after like 15 taps.

Nobody in the entire gym had anything bad to say about him - I remember him (I did not interact a lot with him being a kid) as being incredibly kind
I don’t even think many of these calls are THAT egregious… seems there was a couple split second decisions he hesitated on, but nothing that warrants the hate he gets

Late stoppages are bad mistakes for referees, but I feel like the fighter who wins has to take some of the responsibility aswell. You know when youve won, this isnt a street fight, you are a professional, back the fuck off! Full respect to all fighters who stop themselves when they know its enough, you guys are legends!
Brother, it's literally the refs job to say when one of the fighters has had enough. These fighters are paid to beat the other guy until the ref says stop. You're asking fighters to referee and fight at the same time essentially..
@@lewischristie2285 Im just asking them to be more aware of the situation. I know its not their job, but does that make it ok for them to continue pounding the guy into the ground after hes already out? Look at Mark Hunt, he became famous for the walk away ko, then look what Derrick Lewis did to Curtis Blaydes, he knew he had it won, he jumped in and hit Curtis again, then got up and immediatley started blaming Herb Dean for not stopping him from getting that extra hit.
@@onnxyeah it's the refs job to see that. Think about fights you've been in. adrenaline is coursing through you, you aren't thinking "I shouldn't hit this guy too hard". Now add in that someone is paying you to fight, AND you get more money for putting the other guy to sleep? Yeah, I'm hitting that guy till someone pulls me off him.
@@onnxyeah also Mark Hunt is kinda a bad example as he fought in PRIDE FC iirc
those were DEFINITELY shots to the back of the head. so far, seems like he's making reasonable calls
Yeah I saw that too
Idk the last fight he got banned for was bad
Herb Dean Reffing Rockhold Vs Weidman was horrible. He should’ve stopped the fight way earlier. Dude at 57 strikes from full mount and fracture his skull because the stoppage was so bad.
I remember someone saying how disrespectful it was for joe rogan to interrogate Yamasaki after that terrible DQ he called. I hope that guy has had atleast one bad day since then, they should be called out for crap like this
You’re probably right. Joe lost his temper it looked like. Joe during the fight called it a win and mentions all of the strikes to the side of the head and Mario calls it exact opposite..
You talking about Rogan? Bc yea he should be called out for crap like that. Completely unprofessional petty behavior.
Honestly it looked like chiesa was going out and lightly tapping
I love how you tease Mazzagatti at the end.
Great video!
This is a great video keep it up, great production
Thanks friend
That was weird seeing a doctor stop a fight because "his face was battered" (if that was the actual reason). Kinda happens in fights sometimes lol
Probably subdermal damage beyond just the visible injuries
Mario "If the bodies still warm, it's still in fighting form" Yamasaki
This dude is making the other mma guys step their game up. Top notch creator
MMA refs like any corporate job come down to relationships. When things are going well, you'll never hear complaints. When sh*t starts hitting the fan, that's when you'll find out who's your friend or foe. While Yamasaki did have a few blunders it appears his biggest mistake was his indifference to building relationships outside the octagon (Rogan & Dana White specfically)
Good point. Joe really ripped him a new one in that interview and he hadnt made many mistakes at that time
Was it him who yelled at Nick Diaz no trash talk in the octagone against Lawler?(the first fight) or was it Steve?? I often mixte their name as they are both bad lol
I had never seen that Vitor Belfort/ Wanderlei Silva fight. Pretty interesting the way Vitor rushed him with strikes, especially knowing Silvas knockout power. Very all or nothing attitude, really cool to see.
11:26 LOL the dude was out - the stiff arms, the twitch movement - 100% correct and effective call to protect the fighter!
Mario Yamasaki messed up for sure on some fights. But.... I always felt like Joe and Dana just had it out for him ever since he started interacting and gaining a following on social media.
He's made some mistakes. The Travis Brown and Chiesa fight were clear and the Shevchenko were pretty bad. But, in Mario's defense, it's all happening fast and no referee is perfect. I don't think Mario is the worst. Monday morning quarterbacking is east with ALL the different camera angles and the benefit of hindsight. If I was a fighter, I wouldn't mind if he ref'd my fight.
PLEASE do a video for Mazagati AND Herb Dean. Herb made some calls that were so bad i thought he had taken a bribe. PARTICULARLY the early stoppage of Rousey vs McMann, when earlier that same night he nearly let a man die.
Great video 👍
nah it happens though. i've seen other refs do the same, they have to walk a very fine line and it trips them up. if they stop it too soon they catch hell for it, if they let it go too long they get called a psychopath. also he's got a point, 4 out of 800 ain't too bad. if he really had malicious intent we would have seen a lot more "screw ups" from him..
Who more dangerous steve mazzagatti or Mario cause they both dangerous
Hmmmmm probs Mazagatti
Worst ref ever was old Steve Masagati
The thing is with the Valentina fight. If you’re gonna criticize Mario for not stopping it, you also have to criticize John McCarthy for not stopping the khabib Michael Johnson fight (before the kimura that is, I’m talking during the ground and pound) .. but no one complained about that, yet his ground and pound was much worse than Valentina’s even if you take into consideration the biological difference
Sinong nandito dahil kay sak maestro?
It wasn't just that he let fights go too long, and it wasn't just that he ended them too early- it's the fact that he did both for seemingly no justifiably good reason, which means he's a bad ref.
The thing is there is no right time to stop the fight due to the distance between the ref and the fighters which would cause a 1-2 second delay.
Tbf Joe says “that doesn’t look like the back of the head to me” but Mario walked up and first punch he saw was a back of head shot.
Most of these are so mild or downright forgivable. What you dont see from these clips is how Cachoira would manage a position change just before a referee would naturally stop the fight.
How does a man who Has overseen 400 fights not know how to ref properly Like it's mind boggling I feel like majority of fans could do better.
😅
to be fair he had like 5 bad mistakes and given that he refed 400+ thats like a 1% mistake rate which if you ask me is really impressive
@@lvrbad5588 I agree, it's easy to say that we could've done better. It's alot of shit going on in a fight
It’s better to let 1000 fights end too early than 1 fight end too late. He’s affected certain people human health. But there’s certainly worse refs that Dana didn’t speak so harshly against. I have a feeling there was something personal there.
Nah Mario was the worst
“life would not be beautiful if it were not for death” -Mario Yamasaki 😔
I completely forgot about that post fight conference with Lewis, god gave that man concrete in his right hand and an even more devastating sense of humor 😂😂😂
Most of these weren’t even that bad….. over dramatic video 🙄
A few mistakes don’t mean he’s a bad guy..he just made a few mistakes..that’s it
