So glad he managed to move on from that blatant act of littering he had to witness as a youngster on the mean streets of west linn Oregon

Some people think it was the Marquardt fight that was him reaching the pinnacle, but for me it was his fight against Yushin Okami. I recall thinking itd be an easy win for okami... but something changed in chael because he fucking dom'd okami every round
@greghuffman3061 Okami was so good. He absolutely dominated him. It was such a surprise for Okami he went to Oregon to train with Chael.

@@chase5298 apparently it's some lame ass old running joke
"Chael couldn't fulfill that promise to his father, but in many ways, the legacy he built surpasses that of a world champion."
Truth. I don't think that could have been said any better. I'd be willing to bet Chael's name is better known amongst people in general than half of the world champions out there. Maybe even more than that. Dude is a LEGEND.
indeed my friend
stg i cudnt name half the world champs even in the last five yrs but i can name the greatest to ever do it and undisputed champion- chael gahdam sonnen
Yeah definitely, but he didn't promise to built a legacy but to be a champion.
the fact that people still talk about Chael Sonnen being this "Undisputed" champion more than Aljo who was a legitimate 135lbs champion speaks volume onto it.
The legend made a promise to his dad and never stopped caring about fulfilling it. He might not have reached that goal, but created something that his father would be even more proud off. A belt is easy to be stripped off, his legacy ain't.
Real
Hell yeah.
Well the belt can be stripped but his name would still be among the winners of it. He failed to fulfil the promise he made to a dying man but at least he tried.
it sounds cool and all but i have a hard time believing that wasn't just a cool story to go along with his entirely obvious made up character that he plays.
saddens me
Chael is such a polarising figure in MMA. I think you said it perfectly when you stated that although he never officially had gold strapped around his waist, he somehow surpassed a lot of champs with his legacy. I’m glad I was around to watch his fight career unfold, and I’m glad I’m around now to listen to his thoughts and commentary on current MMA. Undefeated and undisputed 💪🏼
💯💯
is he polarizing? Everyone I see loves him, including me. We even love him despite him being caught cheating multiple times, I'm not sure how why we do that
Chael is the most valuable mind to help grow UFC in a meaningful way. He's got his finger on the pulse. UFC being valued at $3 billion more than WWE looking back...WWE is a god damn behemoth. UFC has a problem
Incredible to see the greatest middleweight of all time lulling all of those opponents into a false sense of security by pretending to get submitted, what a mastermind

He is T̶H̶E̶ M̶M̶A̶ G̶O̶A̶T̶ CHAEL SONNEN
The fact he doesn’t stutter or use filler words when he’s talking smack is inspirational lol. Just talking straight venom in a way everyone around him understands it’s amazing
Its just mind blowing to me how no one on Chaels team, nor Chael himself ever thought..."well maybe I should learn how to defend against a triangle choke" I have honestly never seen one guy lose by the same submission over and over and over and never learn anything...
🤣
innit
That's exactly what I thought. Catch me 3x shame on me
He actually gotta dumber to it... Ufc loss to the spider he said he didn't know he would lose a fight...after losing twice to it before.. Lool

Lmao yessir
Tap means losing the round 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
My god this is so heartbreaking, i have like zero ufc knowledge so i kinda learned about chael from clips and people commenting stuff and i was like alright I know they are exaggerating stuff for jokes but I genuinely believed he was a UFC champion so watching this and everytime he got a title fight i was like ok this is the one but to actually find out he was never champion and that clip when he said “i tried” it legit got me teary eyed
Same here. I can't get it out of my mind.
Just want to say I grew up not too far from West Linn Oregon. I too saw horrific things such as littering occour at a young age. There were even rumors going around town about a guy that built a tool shed, with electricity AND plumbing without the proper permits in his yard. Not everyone makes it out of upbringings like that. And only one goes on to become the UNDISPUTED, UNDEFEATED Greatest of all time. Chael Sonnen ladies and gentlemen. 👏 👏 👏 🎉🎉❤

Been saying this for years, Chael was 2:17 mins away from being a double champ- 1:50 from decisioning Silva, 27 second from TKO/Doctor’s stopping Jones. 🐐 🐐
🐐
He wasn’t going to win on decision v Silva
@@phoqueoeuf he mauled him for 4 straight rounds. Watch the fight
@Demetrius4278ddfgg8 yeah he just mysteriously lost the same way he normally does. Watch the fight, notice Silva is almost pulling guard by the end. He was going for that triangle eventually, he just waited for the right moment. As Chael tired, Silva seized the moment. Remember, Adesanya had to put himself in danger of KO to knockout Alex Pereria.
Chael was never a champion in any weight. Are you prople crazy? Or just can't read and check?
Anderson fought with a broken rib and after the fight Chael tested positive for steroids and was suspended 18 months, reduced to 1 year after appeal. That's the reason why the second fight took so long, and without steroids ko in second round of the second fight.
When Chael said "he tried". Man, he actually tried so hard to become champion in various organizations. His father will be proud. The Real American Gangster.
He tried so hard, that’s even more inspiring than many success
For those who were there at the time, we got to witness sport history. There will be a day in the future when people look back on Chael's press conferences similarly to Ali and Rowdy Piper. 1 of a kind entertainer.
And I remember watching that interview with Helwani the day after his fight with Lyoto where he retired, and I got so choked up when he got choked up. Something about seeing really deep emotion for a guy who's always kept up an entertaining facade, while his kids were there and stuff, it was real.
The fact that Chael Sonnen was able to go undefeated and undisputed for his entire career is incredible!
😂
It's a lie. Just check, never was a champion and lost many many times.

Fantastic video, I don't know Chael or his father obviously, but his father would be beyond proud despite falling short of a world title.
Chael was/is and will always be an absolute fucking gangster. I remember honestly not liking the guy at first because i was young and dumb and just didn't "get" his schtick, but it didn't take long after seeing more and more of his interviews before i became a huge fan. His YT channel is where he presents his insights into the fight game are fantastic and his wit is nothing short of brilliant (the clear MMA GOAT on the mic) and I haven't even mentioned his ridiculous wrestling skills and vastly underrated boxing abilities. In a slightly alternate dimension this absolute beast is the MW GOAT. Long live the American Gangster.

If the triangle choke didn't exist... man chael would be the undeniable goat.

Yeah, a choke from Judo which he says doesn’t work in MMA..
And for the record, Chael is a world class act. His father would be proud.

Thanks my friend! How do you feel about the bad guy?
@@lionelrivera_MMA He isn't the bad guy, he isn't the good guy, Uncle Chael is THE GUY. Undisputed, undefeated.
I think Chael would have been successful at anything he chose to pursue in life. He's already proven that with his CZcams podcast/show. I love how the guy doesn't take himself too seriously, but he also never crossed that imaginary line where he would have become a joke in people's eyes. That's why he is so hard to dislike. It's just a bonus that the dude can fight with the best of the best. I was one of the guys that hated seeing Sonnen getting choked out, or arm bared in fights that he was dominating. I have never seen anyone dominate Anderson Silva like Chael did. Weidman had freak luck on his side (even though I do think he would have been a tough match for Silva regardless of the freakish events that transpired), and Michael Bisping out boxed Silva instead of trying to take the fight to the ground, but Chael almost took Silva's belt by winning just short of 5 straight rounds in dominant ground and pound fashion, and he managed to also out strike Silva on the feet which wasn't anyone's prediction going into that fight. It still hurts to see Chael get triangle choked in the last 30 seconds of that first matchup every time I look back at the fight. The second matchup pissed me off equally as much as a fan because it came down to a simple mistake from Sonnen in the striking game that got him rocked by Silva despite winning most of the rematch up to that point. Chael had the perfect set of skills, and the perfect style to be able to manhandle Anderson Silva with his strength, and a smothering ground attack, but he fell short of having his greatest moment in the sun. Sonnen's failures are a testament to how tough it is to win, and keep winning in mma. Even the best tend to have many setbacks in mma on their way to the top of the mountain. Not everybody get's there, even if they are good enough to do it. Sonnen is definitely a HOF UFC fighter. And in my eyes, he will always be undefeated, and undisputed.
What an assessment
I hate how people talk about Conor started talking and promoting stuff. Chael was undoubtedly the pioneer of this.
And he was a lot funnier than Connor
🐐
Chael is definitely better but I think what made the difference is charisma and the mystic rise.
Chael was better but he lost some fights but Connor was not only talking trash but was always doing what he was saying which made him an immediate attraction

Yes! I dig the long-form content. As for Chael Sonnen, yeah, his mouth did give him many opportunities, but not the way Tito's ex's mouth did. So there's that. Of all of the things he said, nothing came close to him telling his already deceased dad, "I tried," when he couldn't win a major title in MMA. Shit gets me every time.

@lionelrivera_MMA Chael is a Goddamn savant on the mic, and Tito is, well . . . Tito: who can't string a coherent series of thoughts into a sentence.
