If you get injured while committing a crime against someone you can't sue that person. That's not how the law works. I live in Canada. My little dog and I were viciously attacked by a much bigger dog. She had to get five surgeries an artificial buttholes so she could go to the bathroom like a regular dog and I had 178 stitches all over my throat and upper body. The guy whose dog attacked me tried to sue me for the replacement of his dog because his dog had been put down and harassment because I called five times to ask him to pay the vet bill. So I had to counter sue him for the cost of Lilly's vet treatment my pain and suffering the cost to fix my car door cuz the dog attacked us while I was getting out of the car. When we went to court the judge told him that's not how the law Works in Canada. You can't break the law and then sue people for the damages you concur while breaking the law. So just like that dick head couldn't sue me the lunch Thief can't sue Op because his lunch was spicy

I think the most heartbreaking part of the first story is that OP didn't necessarily even WANT kids. She went through this traumatic experience and her husband only cared because he thought she died. I also agree that the paternity test feels like projection because, again, she wanted MAYBE one child, if any, so why would she cheat and have unprotected sex? I also doubt that he would stay with her even if he went with her, because OP said he wanted a big family, and she got a hysterectomy. I feel terrible for OP and i hope her divorce goes well.

    • @SkunkApe407
      @SkunkApe407 Před rokem +26

The fact that she stormed off over a reasonable request only serves to make her seem guilty. Her doing that may have convinced him that the kid isn't his. And seeing as she threw a fit over the first request for paternity, I doubt he's going to ask her again. Had she simply agreed to the paternity test, this whole scenario might have played out differently.
Keep in mind that we only have OP's side of things, so it is quite possible that we are hearing a heavily biased or fabricated account.

There was a detail that puzzled me greatly from the first story: she only knows 2 phone numbers, her husband's and her brother's? Probably not, so why is she so psychologically dependent on him that she can't go to the hospital without him, or at least without his permission, and instead sits and waits for hours at home while she gets further and further into trouble medically? Can't call a neighbor? Can't call 911? No wonder she is having trouble leaving such an obvious cheater/abuser, she has been manipulated into a state of learned helplessness. Glad she is getting therapy (one of the lines Dabney didn't read) but I wonder if its effective therapy because it didn't get her out of this relationship fast enough.

    • @SkunkApe407

@@MyFiddlePlayer while you make an interesting point, we have zero proof that her husband is in any way abusive. Keep in mind that very few people will tell a story that makes them look bad in any light. It is just as likely that she is exaggerating or omitting details to paint herself in a more favorable manner. Remember, her response to a request for paternity was to run off. That isn't exactly the kind of thing an innocent person does. If the kid actually is his, why not just take the test and alleviate his concerns?

Going through that first story, with how many times he didn't answer his phone, I was thinking the exact same thing. I wasn't even thinking about his request for a paternity test, but when you brought it up, it clicked even more. And I do agree with the sister-in-law that, while the brother's prank might have been too far, the husband deserved it, as SHE ALMOST DIED because he didn't answer his phone.
And when you brought up the paternity test, it reminded me of a Pro Revenge story you did some time ago where a guy left to study abroad, and his girlfriend (the OP of the story) found out she was pregnant. The guy started to accuse her of cheating, and demanded a paternity test, and then again after the baby was born, only to prove the kid was his. Then, when OP took a care package to his dorm (which had his new passport), she found him with another woman.
So, yeah. If someone is really pushy for a paternity test, it may just be self projection.

The ADA is actually surprisingly violated quite frequently in businesses across the US. My friend is a vet tech who has PTSD and now she has some neurological condition, the job manager who is a complete buffoon, took her off full time to like 15 hours per week because he needed to see proof of her condition and couldn’t allow someone who was an R word to continue to work there.. there are so many abuses of the ADA that she has endured that she’s spoken to a lawyer as well, and they said “yeah this is an easy win if you want to take it to court”. The manager has since put her back on at least 24 hours of work a week, since her lawyer sent a letter to them reminding them that they have to follow the ADA and not discriminate against people with disabilities, and on top of all of that; she’s a veteran too, which is even more in her favor.

She tried to invoke the ADA but he just laughed and said "We have a legal team and you're unemployed looking for a job. Good luck with that." She found a lawyer willing to take the case pro-bono, but the guy just straight up lied under oath and said the hiring decision was based on her hostile attitude, and he was completely unaware that she was diabetic. One time when I was a teen my dad's insurance decided they didn't want to pay for my daily inhaler subscription anymore and forced him to change to a different daily inhaler subscription. After a week I ended up needing to get rushed to the ER by my dad in the middle of the night for a severe asthma attack. By the time we got there I was turning purple and my blood oxygen was so low that the nurses were shocked I was still conscious, though I was far from fully lucid. Service dog story: CEO said, "Couldn't you just get a bigger dog?" That's insane...all dogs are wonderful in their way, but not all dogs are cut out to be service dogs. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that many of the dogs who begin the training to become service dogs don't make it to actually becoming a service dog. "Just get another dog?" Why not say, "Just keep panning; you surely will strike gold AGAIN."
I had a friend in high school who had a hearing ear dog - a Jack Russell terrier. Seizure alert dogs always fascinated me with their ability to sense an oncoming seizure in their person. Those are two functions where, thankfully, the pool of available dogs is not limited to large breeds. The OP in this story might want to consider new employment; I'd feel uneasy working for such ignorant people.

You are correct, the failure rate for service dog candidates can be quite high. That's NOT an insult to those that wash out, they're still some of the smartest and most loyal dogs out there, they often just tend to have trouble being motivated or focused in most cases. Having a service dog washout as a pet is not a bad thing at all.
You're also correct on the costs (striking gold), they depend a lot on what the pup is ultimately trained to do. Seeing eye dogs, for example, require some of the most expensive training and tend to start around $40K last I looked, but who knows what prices are like these days. In our case, and with all folks we've talked to, insurance was less than useless for covering a service dog and most charitable organizations won't help individual people, they'd rather help groups and other organizations so they can have their photo ops and make a show of helping "many people" so they focus their money that way. Headlines like "local charity helps disabled vets" and "local social club gives child their life back" get better clout than "local charity helps local epileptic or diabetic". To be fair, in our case a service dog was not "necessary", but he's made a HUGE difference in our lives. Before we got him I was literally afraid to sleep because I didn't want to miss it if my wife had a potentially life-threatening episode and I could help her through it. Now, her service dog will wake her if he can and then wake me if she's unresponsive. It took several years to raise the deposit for him, but it was worth it.

This man is looking for a way out of his relationship, and now he's found one in the worst kind of way. The custody hearing is going to get ugly.
Third story - I'm reminded of a story rSlash read when a poster dealt with a lunch thief by making ghost pepper chili for lunch and put in the fridge. Sure enough, the thief ate it, got sick. Just like in the story in this video, OP did not offer their lunch to the other person, which means that they were not enticed into eating it. RE: The ADA and similar laws in other countries like the UK - everyone thinks that this MAGICALLY gets rid of ableism but it doesn't. Plenty of places thoroughly flout it and most people (especially in the US which is so anti-unions) simply can't afford to go the tribunal route. So they get away with it all the time and have no fear of the consequences.
Add to that that ableism is rampant at a systemic level in society as a whole. Even people who say "Oh I would never discriminate/bully/exclude someone who was disabled" often do so - laugh at the weird person in the office? Avoid dealing with someone because you assume that they're grumpy or annoyed with you, or whatever, because their tone doesn't match your expectations? Gossip about the one person who doesn't socialise with their colleagues about how they think they're too good to talk to everyone else? Congrats. There's a good chance that you've just been ableist to an autistic person. And no - nobody has to disclose their disabilities to you, nor do you have any right to make them justify their need to be treated like a human being or given accommodations.
As a wheelchair user, the number of times I've faced ableism is ridiculous. People moving me without asking. People talking to me like I'm a child. People assuming that because my body doesn't work properly, neither does my brain. People ignoring me and talking to my carer instead, even when I have asked a question or held out my credit card to pay for something. I've even had someone say that "people like me" should be kept at home and not brought out in public. I, and almost every other disabled person, face discrimination on a regular basis.
I was denied statutory sick pay because the finance/HR people in my last job "misunderstood" the legislation around it and then said it was "too difficult" to go back and fix it. I was told that I didn't have to listen to my doctor's advice and asked when was I coming back to work, on the SECOND day after abdominal surgery. I was forced to work from my bed, doped up on morphine on a regular basis or be sacked (which is not legal in the UK). I was consistently given a lower salary for doing the same amount and quality of work as my teammates, even though I made up all the hours and then some from when I needed time off for medical reasons. I was supposed to be in a salaried position, but they would dock my pay for every single half hour or ten minutes I had to deal with medical or disability-related issues and, of course, never got overtime. And this happens ALL the time.
In the UK, wheelchair spaces (and disabled parking bays) are legally protected. And yet, when a disabled person took a bus company to court because the driver refused to make a parent move her (folding) stroller from the disabled space, even though there was plenty of space to put it next to her, and so the wheelchair user had to wait for another bus an hour later, the judge agreed that they had committed disability discrimination, but then REFUSED to order the company to make its drivers abide by the damn law.
A train company publicly announced that if their trains were already running more than a minute or two late, they would NOT stop long enough for disabled people to board or leave the train at stations if they needed help or the ramp - even though we have to book the assistance IN ADVANCE and they legally have to assist us. Nothing happened to them.
Buses, taxies and uber drivers repeatedly refuse to stop, pick up or otherwise take disabled people with zero consequences. It's bad enough that some disabled people have literally had to hide behind things as the bus approaches and get an able-bodied person to stop the bus before they hurry out to get on. And if they do take people, taxies and uber drivers will charge 3, 4, 5 times as much for the trip.
Even when you look at those t-shirts and memes that people post where they try to hit as many intersectional (and completely valid) social issues as possible - the ones that say "Love is love", "Black lives matter", "No human is illegal", "Trans women are women", "Science is real", "Women's rights are human rights," and so on - not ONCE have I seen one of those mention disability. Even people in other minorities exclude the disabled community repeatedly - many pride events are not accessible. I've seen supposedly intersectional social activists make horribly ableist statements and stand by them.
Until ableism is stopped (not just the overt shit but the systemic stuff, like assuming a significant number of people on disability are lazy, malingerers, liars etc, or attacking people parking in disabled places with the actual permits/badge to do so, all because they don't look "disabled enough" for you, or god forbid they're a wheelchair user who isn't completely paralysed) then businesses flouting the ADA and similar will keep on happening. Even if you think you're doing it to help "REAL disabled people" you're not. Because fraud is rare - less than 1% in the case of PIP (disability in the UK), and so in the vast majority of cases, you're just attacking a disabled person and calling them a liar.

A term you're looking for is
      "neonatal intensive care unit (NICU)".
And the "incubator"-box tends to be more professionally referenced nowadays as "isolette" or "humidicrib".
As for the "baby display rooms" where all these baby-swapping happen, those are seemingly just called as "admitting nurseries" somewhat confusingly enough.
Though these rooms really have been pretty much "'Murica"-exclusive thing to begin with
( aside of course for the hospitals heavily influenced by USA-Marine-Bases and so on like say in Japan,
at least if media like "A Couple of Cuckoos / Cuckoo's Fiancee" is to be believed ).
      EDIT:
      Oh yes indeed, re-read the
"Why Hospitals Started Displaying Newborn Babies Through Windows -
How peering at babies through glass became a feel-good staple of American maternity wards"-article again and these rooms indeed were primarily a "'Murica'-thing to begin with and indeed for sake of "feel-good"-morale-booster especially for "baby-booming" and such.
Otherwise generally speaking, especially in hospitals build since 1960's, there tends to be enough room for both parents and their baby-child to reside within
      ( at least that is the case with my local-city-hospital in Salo-Finland that was opened in year-1961;
I personally had to reside in a blue-light-isolette for awhile since had a high level of bilirubin alongside slight oxygen-deprivation due the prolonged labour due me having larger head than me mom's pelvis or something-like-that-I-cannot-recall-the-terms ).

Literally wrote the company's service dog policy for them because not a single person in the entirety of the company had any clue what to do with them. I got interrogated, harassed and even cornered by the senior manager and never allowed my service dog. Why? Because PTSD service dogs for non veterans were apparently not real, plus she was a german shepherd. (Which my senior manager didnt like) My senior managers daughter had a diabetic alert poodle so he was convinced he knew everything. They said she was emotional support despite me sending them the ADA's website and highlighted exactly where it said all the tasks she was trained for were literally tasks that ada defined as falls under being a service dog. And the numerous times I ended up having panic attacks at work, severely disassociating in the middle of doing things, and accidentally hurting myself repeatedly because she wasn't there to alert to this stuff and interrupt it still didn't convince them. Crazy thing is while this was going on I was literally given intermittent FMLA, which (for the kind I had) you literally had to be disabled to have. And HR had to approve that! So they were like "ah yes you are very disabled and need to be able to not be at work. But also your lying and not really disabled so you can't have the thing that would Literally make you able to be at work"

Fast forward to labor starting on my youngest - hubby was MIA, so my mom drove me to the hospital. Hubby was a deputy, and used his job having crazy hours to hide his affairs. That is how I confirmed his second affair - he completely missed the birth.
I knew the marriage was over, I simply needed time to save enough up to be able to afford to leave his sorry carcass.
By the time that happened, over a year later, he was on mistress #3. Once the divorce was final, he ghosted us. That was many decades ago. He is currently married to wife #4. I think the only reason this marriage is successful is that age has slowed him down. Or he met a woman who has him firmly under her thumb…?

    3. Service dogs do NOT need anything specific marking them as a service dog in the US.
--We are required to have control of our dog. How we maintain that control is not regulated. Some handlers use voice. I used a collar and leash on my first, and on my second I use a basic guide harness because she prefers to have more direction.

--Invisible disabilities are often supported by specially trained dogs.
    5. Messing with a service dog team or harassing them is a crime, depending on location. The consequences vary by offense.
--The crime is weighted higher for guide dogs in many US states.
--The definition of guide dog can vary by state. In South Carolina, deaf dogs are considered guide dogs.
    6. Service dogs are permitted anywhere the general public can go. In the workplace, they are only limited by where it is safe.
--Contamination risks are a concern in some locations including food manufacturing or pharmaceuticals and this is a permitted exception for obvious reasons.
