I think both the wife and the friend have issues. What kind of person waits until the week before the wedding to try to talk one of the partners out of it? That train left the station a long time ago, and a real friend would not mention it because bringing it up is only going to wreck their friend's happiness. She only wanted him after she found out she couldn't have him? Seriously!
The OP, though, should have stayed at the dinner to monitor the interaction. Remind him later in private that he broke their agreement about no longer interacting with the former friend. Making a scene to test the husband's loyalty was pretty poor form, and also counterproductive. He may well have been motivated to stay longer at the dinner just to prove that she doesn't have him on a chain.
As for the husband, I'm having a hard time telling if he is just oblivious to how his wife is going to react when he unilaterally invites someone she doesn't care for to join them for dinner, or if he is a jerk who doesn't care.
This is one of those "they all suck" stories.

A lot more households have two working parents instead of just one working parent which makes childcare a lot more difficult. Cost of living has also skyrocketed in more urban areas as well. Socially also, the amount of involvement in a child’s life expected from a parent is higher than in previous generations and also spans for a longer period (caring for your child till they turn 18 as a social norm vs till they graduate college). Paying for a child’s college education has also become expected of parents, and more children are going to college. All in all, parenting has somewhat become more difficult because of increasing costs, a changing social landscape, and an expanding definition of what it means to be a parent. That being said it’s still so wrong of story 3 to expect their parents to take care of their kid 24/7 so they can “have fun”

Ok but going out to dinner by myself every once in a while is a treat myself thing I love doing. I have a boyfriend whom I go out to eat with all the time, but there’s something to be said about bringing a book and hogging all the appetizers.
But the whole point is being BY MYSELF. It’s me time. No way I would try to join another table on a self-date. Nah. Sorry. I’m on a date.

The 2nd story is really doing good to promote mgtow for men. She will find some time for him to stream in the next week and then goes shopping for 4+ hours and only cuts the spree short when she got a feeling about the baby. I wonder just how long she would've been "shopping" that day then...
