  • TikTok needs to get sold or get banned, according to Joe Biden. And now creators are worried there will be no more "safe spaces" online. But reportedly, China would rather shut TikTok down than to sell it off. Thisa might be... "problematic" ... for TikTok influencers.

I’m sick of the term safe space. It’s just sticking your fingers in your ear and shouting “I can’t hear you!”

Point of correction. The Forced Tik Tok sale was not "slipped in as a rider". The House explicitly voted on and passed 4 separate single-subject bills (Ukraine aid, Israel/Palestine aid, Taiwan/Pacific region aid, and Tik Tok) that were then combined into a single package for consideration in the Senate. Speaker Johnson split the votes into the separate bills so that those who would vote against different parts of the separate bills (for example, opponents of Ukraine aid and opponents of Israel aid) would not be able to come together to kill an omnibus bill. The issues were not as divisive in the Senate, so the combined package was expected to pass without delay.

I wasn’t a fan of Vine or Tiktok. I’ll admit, the CZcams shorts have got me though. Not a huge fan, still prefer longer form content, but putting these videos on YT was a sure thing to make sure I’d have to see them. I have found myself watching more and more shorts for no other reason then they are on YT now. It did convince me short form content isn’t all bad. Some of it is alright and I understand why people get stuck watching it for so long.

There are not any never will be any "safe spaces" in life.
These children need to grow up and get over themselves.

I have mixed feelings about banning TikToK, on one hand i don't like our government controlling speech, on the other hand i don't like other governments controlling speech. The idea of the CCP controlling speech is disturbing after seeing how destabilizing twitter was before Elon took it over. If having a bias based in country is bad then a country that does not have our best interests at heart is even scarier.

When there was a huge flood in China a few months ago, the government sent out construction crews to put up these blue, metal walls to block off how bad the flooding was so people on the other side of the wall couldn't see. They literally blocked their own people in real time from seeing how bad some of their infrastructure is. But blocking people in real time is amazing...that government is insane over there

problem also is, since China's copyright laws are different then American laws.
The MINUTE someone tries to buy it in America, copyright laws will kill the platform. Most of what they do besides doing dumb criminal activity, which will also hurt the platform because youtube prevents that as well, is that they won't be allowed to have music playing in the background anymore or lip syncing music since look what happened to Twitch when that happened?? So many videos taken down and i know A SHIT TONE Of people who have done it
let's put it this way, either way the platform is damn screwed.
and do I care? Not ....one.....little ....bit....

I'm not a fan of this Tok Tok ban for the reasons you two said. It's an opening for the state to start coming after other online sites they may see as questionable.
That said, I always view social media as a place if you wanna see what happens when you allow the nuts to express themselves online.

That’s true in theory, but unfortunately in reality it tends to just amplify the problem and causes a spiral of sorts. It’s part of the reason why the insanity seems to be accelerating at an increasing rate.

the U.S. government likely wanted total control over the platform or at the very least back door access to it. but Tik Tok wouldn't give it to them because it's a overseas company which likely resulted in the ban.
