- TikTok needs to get sold or get banned, according to Joe Biden. And now creators are worried there will be no more "safe spaces" online. But reportedly, China would rather shut TikTok down than to sell it off. Thisa might be... "problematic" ... for TikTok influencers.

I’m sick of the term safe space. It’s just sticking your fingers in your ear and shouting “I can’t hear you!”
TikTok is a cesspool.
I don’t think banning is the answer unfortunately.
It's a CCP psy-op. The algorithm used in China is completely different than what is used in the west. That should be all the reason needed to shut it down.
I agree. It's rather unnecessary and would likely get the US gov some serious backlash for this.
My country banned TikTok. The world has been a better space ever since. I got no annoying relatives doing TikTok dances anymore, and people are doing less stupid stuff as well as saying less stupid opinions.
Social media should reward creativity, not stupidity. An entire generation's psychology will be affected if society taught them to be intentionally stupid for followers.

They have it backwards. Kids need a safe space *from* TikTok.
It's a safe space from government overreach. The US government wants to ban Tik Tok because they can't control Tik Tok the same way they control Facebook, CZcams, and Twitter (to a lesser extent). I'm more expecting that China will create a shell company and simply own the shell company while changing basically nothing.
I hope they try to act tough and have everything collapse because they're aren't.
Shell companies aren't allowed. Has to be an American company. Shell companies are still owned by the nationality that sets them up. And it would be too obvious. only the 10 Big Tech companies are on that short list.

I was under the impression the owner of TikTok was based in and is from Singapore and that China wasn’t allowed to have TikTok at all. I am late to the conversation on the TikTok ban. Only heard about it recently. I don’t use TikTok.
Edit: I guess the guy grilled in court (Shou Zi Chew) is a Singaporean, but he’s only one of the founders of Tiktok. He’s the CEO. He’s not the guy who made the app. (Zhang Yiming) He’s not the main creator and owner. Apparently ByteDance actually is a Chinese affiliated company. Tiktok is a subsidiary of the ByteDance company. Zhang Yiming is Chinese.
But China has bought a ton of land in the U.S. lol
@@FullmoonPhantom-dn2sr The CEO of TikTok is from Singapore, the parent company (ByteDance) is Chinese and headquartered in Beijing.
@@FullmoonPhantom-dn2sr Long story over simplified. The owner lives in Singapore but the company is run entirely out of China. And as such China can force full compliance on him at any time. And even just take the company away from him if they want to. You have to agree to that to start a company in China. On top of that Singapore is in full bilateral cooperation with China. Meaning that the CCP has full power in Singapore. Furthermore Singapore cant afford to anger China. So if they ask for him to be brought to China. He will go. And he wont be returning.
The argument for the Tiktok ban is it being a Chinese company and Chinas REQUIREMENT that all companies based in or operating in their country MUST share date with the Chinese government. Doing the same thing to an actual US company is far different.

Point of correction. The Forced Tik Tok sale was not "slipped in as a rider". The House explicitly voted on and passed 4 separate single-subject bills (Ukraine aid, Israel/Palestine aid, Taiwan/Pacific region aid, and Tik Tok) that were then combined into a single package for consideration in the Senate. Speaker Johnson split the votes into the separate bills so that those who would vote against different parts of the separate bills (for example, opponents of Ukraine aid and opponents of Israel aid) would not be able to come together to kill an omnibus bill. The issues were not as divisive in the Senate, so the combined package was expected to pass without delay.

Talking about TikTok being banned without any mention of how China treats foreign companies is stupid. The incredible difference between the Chinese version and the US version is adequate grounds to ban.
Exactly, China forces companies to set up factories in China, and create a certain amount of product in China in order to do business in China. They do this so they can get access to the trade secrets so they can create their own knock off version.
How about this make it where you legally have to be 18 to be on social media children do not have any business on any of these platforms in the first place

She was then in the FIGHT FIR HER LIFE, because of a Flesh Eating Bacteria. She lost ALL limbs & was scarred all over.
TLDR: There are ZERO ‘safe’ spaces in LIFE.
Nothing in online is a safe space. The only safe space you have is your home. When your online, whatever social media you use, your profile, age, bio etc are their for others to see and whatever you say people can either start a argument with you based on what you posted, follow you, write hit pieces on you and others. To be in a safe space would be basically taking yourself offline and deleting all your social media pages so no one will know who you are accept for the people who you hang with on a daily basis

Honestly I don't agree with the ban, as much as I hate tik Tok and see it as a degenerate platform, I feel that our government is overstepping their bounds... Ideologically we might as well be signing off our autonomy as this whole predicament feels a little authoritarian/autocratic in design... If we let those rats in public office run around with that kind of power what is next? What else will we sacrifice for our "safety" as with tik Tok it's as easy as not downloading/blocking the app or deleting it off your phone... You honestly sound like a numbskull praising them for restricting your freedoms smh....
No great lose as how long did we humans live without social media?
I was a child and teenager without social media (when I was a teen, it was just like AOL chat and various forums). Myspace didn't start until I was in college. I made it just fine. Actually, I think it served me better. My safe space is my house. It might be a good thing for people to get off it. I only have Facebook (keep up with relatives and belong to some interest groups) and CZcams (mostly for watching videos more than being social). Technically I have Instagram when I used to follow a company that I collected things from. But I don't use it or post or anything. Never comment even. Don't even follow anyone anymore (I collected a little too much and just cut myself off from that brand). I don't have Twitter. I don't have TikTok. I don't know what else is out there, but I don't have it.
This will not kill social media. People will only move on to something else. When Vine died, Tiktok was born, and the same will likely happen again. People like short form content, so, of course, the people will find what they want somewhere. Personally, I’ve always preferred CZcams. Never used anything else either. I wasn’t a fan of Vine or Tiktok. I’ll admit, the CZcams shorts have got me though. Not a huge fan, still prefer longer form content, but putting these videos on YT was a sure thing to make sure I’d have to see them. I have found myself watching more and more shorts for no other reason then they are on YT now. It did convince me short form content isn’t all bad. Some of it is alright and I understand why people get stuck watching it for so long.
These weirdos don't even know what they are talking about when saying "safe space." Yes, TikTok must be shut down.
going outside is livable, talking face-to-face is livable. the new generations don't know what it was like without the internet or phones 24/7
"Didn't see a lot of Black representation in paranormal research." They knew who dies first when that stuff starts happening!
I really don't care if TikTok is banned and we're likely better off without it and MANY others, I do worry what else they'll use this for to slither into and overreach with. A monkey's paw of sorts.
Honestly society would be better off if tiktok was gone
They should ban TikTok. Period. Screw that site
There are not any never will be any "safe spaces" in life.
These children need to grow up and get over themselves.
I have mixed feelings about banning TikToK, on one hand i don't like our government controlling speech, on the other hand i don't like other governments controlling speech. The idea of the CCP controlling speech is disturbing after seeing how destabilizing twitter was before Elon took it over. If having a bias based in country is bad then a country that does not have our best interests at heart is even scarier.
When there was a huge flood in China a few months ago, the government sent out construction crews to put up these blue, metal walls to block off how bad the flooding was so people on the other side of the wall couldn't see. They literally blocked their own people in real time from seeing how bad some of their infrastructure is. But blocking people in real time is amazing...that government is insane over there
problem also is, since China's copyright laws are different then American laws.
The MINUTE someone tries to buy it in America, copyright laws will kill the platform. Most of what they do besides doing dumb criminal activity, which will also hurt the platform because youtube prevents that as well, is that they won't be allowed to have music playing in the background anymore or lip syncing music since look what happened to Twitch when that happened?? So many videos taken down and i know A SHIT TONE Of people who have done it
let's put it this way, either way the platform is damn screwed.
and do I care? Not ....one.....little ....bit....
Once again, copyright laws ruin everything.
In Sweden both mother and father have parental leave for year. US is the worst country out of all G20 regarding family health care with its 3 weeks maternity leave.
LMAO TIKTOK A SAFE SPACE? LMAO!!! ITS THE MOST TOXIC PLACE BESIDES TWITTER! LOL!!!
I'm not a fan of this Tok Tok ban for the reasons you two said. It's an opening for the state to start coming after other online sites they may see as questionable.
That said, I always view social media as a place if you wanna see what happens when you allow the nuts to express themselves online.
That’s true in theory, but unfortunately in reality it tends to just amplify the problem and causes a spiral of sorts. It’s part of the reason why the insanity seems to be accelerating at an increasing rate.
Paternity leave is compulsory in the UK where i live.
That's the whole reason I'm not against the ban. 😂😂😂
Tick tock falling apart as is Twitter such a good sight to see 😊
Why?
my job didn't give me paternity leave so I opted to use vacation time when my children were born but even that was only a week or two max.
I worked for a company that worked in China and you have to sell a portion of your company to the Chinese government. Sensible companies make a China specific company so it limits how much the Chinese government own
if its sold to rumble there will be more of a free speech vibe , plus it keeps google from getting at its algorithm
But then it will be even more mid.
Rand Paul almost had me convinced a ban is bad, now Washington Post almost has me convinced a bann is good...🤔
Either way a ban is going to cost us billions of laundered money going to criminals in Ukraine.
Social Media was never a safe space! You want a safe space just stay home and don't talk to anyone.
Like what Dracula says about mankind, TikTok is a cesspit of hatred and lies
the U.S. government likely wanted total control over the platform or at the very least back door access to it. but Tik Tok wouldn't give it to them because it's a overseas company which likely resulted in the ban.
