  • Rhaenyra's first council as Queen to counter the threat | House of the Dragon
    Rhaenys riding Meleys The Red Queen spoiled Aegon's Coronation and flew Dragonstone to warn Queen Rhaenyra of the situation.
    Meleys The Red Queen spared the lives of King Aegon II & his whole family in House of the Dragon
    Princess Rhaenys while imprisoned by Queen Alicent Hightower, escaped and approached with her dragon Meleys. She could have roasted the entire family of Otto Hightower, Aemond Targaryen, Helena Targaryen, but she spared their lives by a gesture of mercy and a warning.
    Meleys, nicknamed the Red Queen, is a she-dragon ridden by Princess Rhaenys Targaryen. Covered in scarlet scales, she has accents of bright copper. It is her unique coloring for which she received her nickname. In her youth, she is said to have outpaced even Caraxes and Vhagar.

      In the books, daemon is considered (rightfully) so to be “the most dangerous man in westersos. He’s plainly described as being THE premier threat of the black council. Rhaenyra doesn’t have hardly any experience in war, we’ve only seen small glimpses of her fighting prowess. Her boys are both untested. But Daemon…hes the fucking rockstar of the blacks. I really think Daemon is not given enough credit for how COMPETENT he can be when he needs to be. It’s often overshadowed by him doing whatever rash, reckless nonsense he chooses, but when he commits to something, he is the conqueror reborn.
      Look how quickly he ended the war in the stepstones, after hearing that his brother was going to “step in” and help his side. Dude decided he was gonna go all in, and when the pressure is on is when Daemon is in his element .
      But here we also see that Daemon is able to be very much composed when he needs to be. I mean whilst Otto and his council are surely fast tracking their own plan and thinking ten steps ahead, we also see that Daemon is doing the same very early on into this conflict. Establishing their numerical standing, their advantages and disadvantages, how to exploit their opponents disadvantages and play into their own strengths. He’s a masterful tactician. That’s why his eventual death really is felt amongst the blacks side.

      Syrax - Ridden by the true queen Rhaenyra.
      Caraxes - Blood wyrm. Ridden by King consort Daemon.
      Meleys - Red queen. Ridden by "queen who should have been" Rhaenys.
      Seasmoke - Unclaimed since "death" of Laenor.
      Vermithor - Unclaimed since Old King Jaehaerys death.
      Silverwing - Unclaimed since Good Queen Alysanne death.
      Cannibal - Wild. Never go near him!!!
      Grey Ghost - Wild. Shy bean.
      Sheepstealer - Wild. Hence the name, loves sheep feasts.

      Arrax - Young dragon. Ridden by Lucerys Velaryon.
      Tyraxes - Young dragon. Ridden by Joffrey Velaryon.

    That moment of silence when everyone has gathered around the table and looks and Rhaenyra is a great demonstration of what it means to be a respected leader. Everyone looks to you to head the ship and make the decisions.

    • @alessiodandolo1460
      @alessiodandolo1460 Před 9 měsíci +5

      If Laena hadn't died there is no evidence that she and Daemon would have gotten involved in the war (at least in the show version), nothing would have stopped Aemond from falling back on Vermithor or Silverwing and the Greens would still have four powerful dragons to oppose but that isn't the main point. Is Vhagar a formidable weapon ? Yes. Would her absence from the side of the Greens have meant their defeat ? Not necessarily. Tessarion and Sunfyre are young but they are formidable dragons. Dreamfyre is one of the largest and most powerful dragons when the Dance breaks out. And anyway, the dragons are not the only parameter of the war. Did Dorne have dragons ? Did the Faith have dragons ? Did the Triarchy have dragons ? No, yet the three challenged and threatened the power of the Targaryens. And besides, if the Dance of the Dragons proves anything, it's that owning dragons is no guarantee of safety. It is impossible to predict what would have happened. When the Hightowers win the Battle of the Honeywine, the war seems won for the Greens. When Rhaenyra takes King's Landing, the war seems won for her. When Aegon kills Rhaenyra at Dragonstone, the war seems won for him. And yet, each time, unforeseen and unpredictable events reverse the situation. Aemond's mistakes, Tumbleton's betrayals, the sack of the Dragonpit, Aegon's grudge... no one could have foreseen all of this. On the other hand, what is certain is that in terms of gold, men, resources and influence, the Greens are superior.

      @janellejulianajoy Před 5 měsíci +3

      @@alessiodandolo1460She definitely would've gotten involved as her own mother and brother are likely in the middle of it all. This gives the Black's Meleys, Caraxes, Syrax, Vermax, Arrax, Seasmoke, Vhagar and Moondancer to the Green's Sunfyre (who Rhaenys almost takes out on her own), a possible Vermithor and Tessarion. Along withh the Velaryon fleet.
      Team Green would be fucked. Laena and Laenor changed the tide altogether.
      People will also learn that size matters not, especially if you have an incompetent rider who think too much of himself.

    • @alessiodandolo1460
      @alessiodandolo1460 Před 5 měsíci

      @@janellejulianajoy I maintain that there is nothing to say with certainty that Laena and Daemon would have supported Rhaenyra: in this alternative scenario, Daemon is not Rhaenyra's consort and therefore has no particular interest in supporting her, and Laena could to be a serious pretender for the succession of Driftmark (more so than her daughters, who bear the Targaryen name, and who are still very young), given the bastardy of Rhaenyra's children. One could imagine a potential internal conflict among the Velaryons (which happens in the books, but without dragonriders as potential suitors). The Blacks could become seriously weakened in such a conflict, and it could even cause one faction to support the Greens over the Blacks (which happens with Vaemond and the Silent Five).
      We could also imagine that Daemon, by predicting a bloodbath between the supporters of Rhaenyra and those of Aegon, prefers to remain neutral to pose as a potential successor after the war.
      Now, you put Arrax, Vermax and Moondancer among the dragons ready to fight. However, it is clear that they are still very young and vulnerable dragons (Moondancer has never even been ridden when the Dance of Dragons breaks out).
      You also talk about the importance of the dragonrider skill, but in this case you can already remove Rhaenyra and Syrax from the list. I remind you that she does not participate in a single fight during the Dance, and that she does not even show herself capable of defending the Dragonpit against peasants.
      That leaves Meleys, Vhagar, Caraxes, Seasmoke, Vermax and Arrax for the Blacks against Vermithor (potentially), Sunfyre, Tessarion and Dreamfyre in the event that Daemon and Laena participate in the war. Certainly, I would say that in this case there is a slight advantage for the Blacks in terms of dragons, but not insurmountable for the Greens either.
      As I said, dragons are an important parameter of war but if they were a miraculous weapon that ensures victory to whoever has the most, Dorne would have been conquered in a week, the Triarchy would never have stood up to Daemon and Corlys, the Faith would not have threatened the power of the Targaryens for years. War is not a simple equation with dragons. There are unforeseen events, riders can die, be prevented from going into battle (Haelaena or Rhaenyra for example), strategic errors can be made by one or the other. It's much more complex than an addition of dragons.
      I remind you that after the capture of King's Landing, Rhaenyra sits on the Iron Throne, protected by six adult dragons, while the Greens are scattered, with a king missing, seriously injured and separated from his dragon, and only Tessarion and Vhagar ready to fight. However, a few months later, the Blacks no longer have a single dragon, and Rhaenyra ends up devoured by her brother's dragon. Considering the strengths of both sides six months earlier, who could have predicted it ?
      The Greens have human, material and financial resources that the Blacks do not have, they have the support of the two richest and most powerful houses on the continent, they have thousands of men ready to be mobilized quickly, and above all, they are much better prepared for conflict than the Blacks. No, even if Laena had survived, you can't say they would have been "fucked"

      Those betrothal's could be broken quickly. Jace already breaks his unprovoked, why can't Rhaenys?
      And Rhaenys loyal to Rhaenyra?! Since when. She couldn't stand Rhaenyra and it's obvious. So obvious I was a bit shocked that she didn't just push to remain neutral. Daemon and Rhaenyra then marry not 48 hrs after the death of Laenor and 72 hours after Laena's memorial service. I don't think disrespectful is a strong enough word...I'll go with insensitive and trifling. Why do you think Rhaenyra was scared, used Rhaena as a buffer and threw out the idea of a betrothal of her sons to Daemon's daughters. That was a hail mary pass. Would you fear the testimony of someone loyal to you?
      Rhaenys had no love for either one of them. Were she able to get Rhaena along with Baela, she'd clearly would've said fuck you all. Rhaenys loved Viserys...the rest could go to hell...or heaven....I don't think she gave a shit which.

      Queen Rhaenyra was talking of the others. In particular her own and the childrens. Syrax, her own, never been ridden in war. Vermax, Arrax, and Tyraxes. Her sons own dragons, old enough to ride and to fight, but far from fully grown. Baela's own dragon Moondancer too. A hatchling. Finishing off the blacks current dragons are Daemons dragon Caraxes the Bloodwyrm. A dragon that has fought in battle and war for the stepstones. Lastly, one of the largest dragons the Blacks have currently is Meleys. The Red queen. A large and powerful dragon to be sure. One of the oldest. but not as old as Vhagar. And never ridden in war, neither by Princess Rhaenys, nor her previous Rider Alyssa targaryen.
      So, four of those blacks dragons are tiny compared to the greens own dragons.
      The greens dragons are such. Vhagar, the oldest and most powerful of the dragons. Theoretically worth any other two dragons in the world. A truly ancient beast that was centre stage in Aegons conquest. The Aegon and Helaena each have their own dragons. Sunfyre and dreamfyre. Both fully grown. Roughly of age and similiar power to Syrax. Lastly the fourth Green dragon Daemon mentions we can assume to be Shrykos. The bonded dragon of Aegons eldest son Jaehaerys, yet not yet ridden.
      Seasmoke meanwhile, while not a wild dragon is currently riderless. As is both Silverwing and Vermithor. All three are powerful dragons that have been to war. But, well, again. Riderless.
      The last 3 remaining dragons are Sheepstealer. A wild dragon, that's never been ridden. Grey Ghost. A wild dragon that is particularly shy of humans and named such for how it avoids people like a ghost. and the last is The Cannibal. A horrible beast that attacks other dragons, particularly hatchlings and even tries to steal and eat eggs. None of those three have ever been ridden or gone to war that we know of.
      So, Rhaenyra is quite correct when she says that of the current riders, none of their dragons have ever been to war. Most of the current riders are also notably riding young dragons and are children or barely adults themselves.

    Daemon was honestly right. The moment they crowned Aegon behind their backs war was declared. When Otto arrived they should have slain them all and commendered the vessel then once Corlys arrived sieged Kings Landing with 13 damn dragons and a fleet. Vhagar is big but she's old. She'd succumb to numbers and assaults from below plus Aemond can't control her. They likely would not have risked the new "King" on Sunfyre and Healena is utterly useless as a dragonrider, she would get blown out of the sky. Had Rhenerya struck hard, organized and fast they'd have decimated the Greens before foreign armies of men had time to mobilize. She needed to be Aegon the First here. Not Viserys.

    Kind of annoyed they didn't mention the Tyrells and Greyjoys, particularly given the role Dalton Greyjoy will play wreaking havoc on the Westerlands at Rhaenyra's behest...
    For example:
    Rhaenyra: What of Highgarden and Pyke?
    Daemon: The Lord of House Tyrell is still shitting his swaddling clothes, and his mother won't dare risking his safety by opposing Otto. The Greens will likely also try to court the Greyjoys: if Lord Corlys sides with us, the ironborn are his only hope of matching the Velaryon fleet. Dalton Greyjoy, Lord of the Iron Islands, however, is sixteen, and cares only for battle and plunder. Appeal to his love for both and the Red Kraken may choose black over green.

    • @SantomPh
      @SantomPh Před 7 měsíci

      The Tyrells are led by a baby and his mother, who had already declared for no one (and sent ravens to that effect). As far as the blacks and greens know Dalton hasn't cemented his position yet. In the book Daemon does suggest that they ask Dalton to join, if only to use him against the Lannister fleet (who are mentioned).
      Dalton actually waited for an offer from the blacks, as the greens offered him to make him master of ships.
      He basically didn't alter the main series of events much as the blacks only asked him to raid the west coast and keep the Lannisters from using their navy.

    BOOK SPOILERS:
    In episode 6, Laena talks to Rhaena about how there are multiple ways to get a dragon and talks about claiming Vhagar. Now in this scene, you can see the camera cut to every dragonrider as their dragon gets mentioned. It cuts to Rhaena when Daemon mentions that Vermithor and Silverwing are still riderless. I think the show is setting up a change from the books where Rhaena claims a dragon instead of hatching Morning (who is never really relevant in the Dance because is a baby). Maybe she'll claim Silverwing and the two betrayers will get "condensed" into one character. GoT did that with the multiple Tyrells being condensed into just Loras. Bit frustrating they made Aegon II's sigil a green dragon. Bit of a simplification from his gold dragon in referance to his mount, though for some reason Sunfyre, a gleaming golden dragon that breathed golden fire and was regarded as the most beautiful dragon, has not appeared yet. The bond between Aegon and Sunfyre is meant to be close, and Sunfyre is a very important dragon, and yet he hasn't appeared and Aegon just uses a green dragon as his sigil, which I guess is a nod to the beacon on the Hightower but everything being simplified can do harm. Such as so many houses not appearing in GoT when they were of great importance, and now showing up in HotD with no context to them.

    As the show is not going forward exactly as the books , so there could be chances that rhena will also be able to claim a big dragon . Just got a felling as daemon told about the vermithor and silverwing and then said still riderless, they show rhena. And 1+1=2 so.

      @@user-zb5qb2fq2j Yes, but they made a point in the episode that when Daemon mentioned there are some unclaimed dragons, the camera immediately cut to Rhaena. I think this is foreshadowing that she'll claim one of these dragons next season. The show hasn't followed the book beat for beat (i.e. Laenor Velaryon), so there's definitely a chance of that happening
