Yes. Cersei was evil to the core, smart but manipulative, she has blinders on and cannot see value in other people except herself & her children, she even sees her own twin brother as lesser than her and would constantly think critically of him but wants him to be devoted to her completely even when she isn’t devoted to him the same way she wished he did for her. She is narcissistic and Joffrey was her golden child, that’s why Tommen & Myrcella honestly turned out fine because they spent less time with their mother than Joff did.
Meanwhile, Alicent was just a product of her environment & horrible dad. She was woman forced into a role that took away her control over her own desires and needs, Alicent grew up being taught that her life was never her own and that she must always put “the kingdom” first (kingdom meaning her dad’s obsession with the iron throne) and as an adult she is constantly reminded of this but despite being resentful of Rhaenyra, she stayed compassionate & empathetic to a fault. Alicent remembers the pain of her youth and the burden she carries of not following her own desires because she “couldn’t” when she certainly could’ve but she was so convinced by her father that being her own person was wrong and selfish and would hurt her father if she didn’t obey.
Otto is just like Cersei, just not as good at manipulation & not as smart when it comes to getting what he wants. and also he never taught or pushed his daughter into the direction of being an egotistical narcissist monster.

And the funny part is Rhaenyra slept around when she was Aegon’s age, she wasn’t allowed to but she did, sure she would have faced WORSE consequences because she was a woman and that’s where Alicent’s rage comes in because Aegon IS allowed to sleep around and get away it at this age because he is a man and people like herself (the Queen, in Rhaenyra’s case it was Viserys and the people closest to Rhaenyra) cover up for him the same way people did for Rhaenyra at that age and still do despite her bastard sons, Aicent knows that what Aegon did is far worse than Rhaenyra’s actions but Aegon will never be humiliated for it like Rhaenyra was. Aegon also RAPED a girl, many girls actually which is shameful enough in itself. Alicent spent her entire life as a baby maker, sent by her father to seduce and fuck an old disgusting man twice her age, made to marry him, fucked whenever he wants, and be a baby maker for pretty much her entire life and here is her son forcefully taking the honour of a servant girl as he pleases, all the while he will never ever ever receive the same punishments and consequences that Alicent and Rhaenyra did and would have had they done as they pleased when they pleased. She is a woman who grew up being taught that her life does not belong to her, same as Rhaenyra but Alicent took her duty a different way. A worse way tbh.

Given the fact that Helaena is married to Aegon, I bet Alicent realized in that moment that he sexually abused her as well, and instinctively felt the need to give her daughter a comforting hug to compensate for that horrible realisation.

Aegon reminds me of Tyrion Lannister, albeit completely different expectations. Tyrion wanted more leadership roles but was resorted to menial tasks because of his dwarfism. Aegon is the opposite, he wants nothing to do with leadership and prefers a life of freedom. Both reluctantly hold their roles for their family and copes by drinking and whoring. This is a surface level comparison of course, Aegon can never be as wise as Tyrion.

    • @Unownshipper
      @Unownshipper Před rokem +8

@@bloop5337 On the subject of Viserys, that's actually something I really don't get. Where is he in rearing his children?
Alicent isn't a good mother, but you can understand why. Firstly, she became a mother WAY too young. That shot of her, a teenage girl, holding a screaming infant conceived with her by a man 3 times older than her is harrowing; it's a perfect summation of the trauma of being a child bride. Second, Otto Hightower is a loveless manipulator who starved Alicent of any affection and Alicent's mother died when she was very young. In short, she hasn't had an example of good patenting. Next, Otto has heaped high standards and rigid perfectionism on her; that's all she knows, so she has little patience for people that don't fulfill their "societal roles." Lastly, she believes (again, thanks to Otto) that her and her children's lives are in danger from Rhaenyra wanting to eliminate any other claimants when she becomes queen.
I believe Alicent loves her children sincerely, but she wasn't prepared to be a mother. But what the hell is Viserys' excuse? ALL he's ever wanted is a son, and when Alicent gives him one, he seems genuinely proud for a few episodes at least.
Are we to believe Viserys is just some preteen with a puppy that got bored when it grew out of its "cute" stage? Not only does that seem unlikely, it's bad character writing.
Alicent lacks flexibility but she dotes on her children (particularly Helaena) and Viserys might be a weak and distracted king but he has been previously shown to be a loving father, so how do the two of them have such sociopathic kids (Aemond and Aegon specifically)? I know that in real life good parents do give birth to murderers and rapists on occasion, but I'd like some narrative explanation from this show.
And don't give me that BS "every time a Targaryen is born, the gods toss the coin" writer's convenience. If that were the case, then it's statistically unlikely that Aemond and Aegon would both turn out bad while Jace and Luke are such righteous cherubs.

He can do whatever he wants, and that includes raping a serving girl, and there’s nothing anyone can do about it. No authority in the kingdom is going to punish a prince on behalf of a serving girl.
Even Alicent doesn’t have the authority to punish Aegon. He’s a grown man and he’s next in line for the throne. Alicent telling Dyana she believes her, giving her the tea and sending her away was the best she could do.
And to blame the way Aegon turned out on his mother, who was a teenage girl when she had him and not on his father, who neglected him and his duties to him as a father, is incredibly sexist. Viserys CHOSE to marry Alicent and have more children! You’d think he’d actually parent them! I actually felt a little bad for Aegon here. I think that's why I love this series and Game of Thrones so much. Martin is so good at making you sympathize for even the most disgusting people.
Like, I still hate Aegon, but the way his voice cracked when he said he never asked for this, the way you could still kind of hear that little child in him just wanting his parents' approval? Gah! The actor did such a good job.

she was used as a baby machine for male heirs for viserys meanwhile viserys neglected them, was totally a deadbeat father and clearly biased rhaenyra and didn't care they all know it, he didn't even make them feel like they're his.
but sure blame it all on alicent who at least tried to mother them and does love them. she definitely passed on the generational trauma but mostly out of survival mode, because otto planted in her head for years that if aegon isn't the heir, rhaenyra will have to kill them all in order to secure her claim.

@@hadokenraikiri6977 I never thought of it that way.
It would make Daemon's ending in history more realistic. Because with the way he and Rhaenera are protrayed in the show, it looks like nothing would make them leave each other's side.
After all, his body was never found. Some believe he fell in love with Neetles, (book reader know who she is) meaning he abandoned Rhaenera, and actually survived the battle with Aemond but let people think he was dead so he could escape.
Escape Rhaenera or escape the war I don't know, but he definitely never went back to Rhaenera.

She's not all bad but her hypocrisy! Her son can be an fboy and still be king but not Rynaera and still be queen. On a different topic, she seemed to forget that there are two Aegons in the family. The king could've been talking about his grandson 🤷🏾‍♀️
