Decent tip. I still believe a stone would be safer and perhaps a little more effective. Regardless, nice tool.
Agreed 100% but most ppl have never even tried using a stone for anything believe it or not.
As someone from an area that doesn't have a lot of igneous pebbles, I'd definitely bring some sort of hammering tool when I'm out camping. The powerstone™ is useful, but scarce around my parts.
the problem with stones is that they chip and become inconsistent
*OP finds self in stone-less forest needing shelter with this multi-tool and a bag of nails...
"I got this. 😉 "
Literally was on my way to say how often isn't there a decent rock available, but it's good to see some common sense beat me to it
Teaching common sense, which, unfortunately, isn't so common anymore...
Sad...but true
That saying has been around for decades, we have to start anticipating stupid
Common sense is never common, it is far better to think of it as, “commonly TAUGHT sense”. There are very few concepts that are truly “common” or “innately universal”. A proper understanding of what common sense is and isn’t will help you a lot when it comes to understanding people’s behavior.
@@TheHeadincharge well said
@@TheHeadincharge this guy gets it
Best to remember, when you are buying nails at your local hardware store, also get a hammer.
Truth..
If I only have to put in 6 nails and I'm hiking with a lot of other gear the signals hammer is great. I mostly use the hammer to bash other things then nails though.
@@ammoiscurrency5706 ya, because when you are camping you wanna be able to hang picture on the trees.
@@rjskum688 exactly
This guy gets it 😂
Finally a tool that really does make everything a nail
Ive learned that a wild rock is the best tool for camping. Drives in stakes, heat it for cleaning water, sit on a big one, use a big one as a table, weigh down stuff with it, tell the weather w/ a weather rock, endless uses
I agree, I think this is advice more applicable in an urban environment
Wild rock. Nice.
As opposed to a tame rock?
"tell the weather with it" I love that joke
Weigh your tent down, silence the snorer..
"Tens of thousands of years, using stones."
The exact bush tool I'd select as a hammer way before the smallest side of a multitool :P
Wow dude you nailed that demonstration
For when you have nails in the wild but no hammer. Perfect 👍🏽
Happens alot
I love my Leatherman Signal.
Scissors and a File is needed to complete it.
For all those people walking in the woods with all nails and no hammers.
There is a joke in there somewhere 🤔🤔
Wow this comment made me realize I only carry my multi-tool in the woods when I'm taking my bag of nails for a walk.
@@roberthegwood3528 I keep my nails on me at all times, EDC nails.
Yeah it’s good to always have about 20 pounds of different sized nails in your survival pack..just replace your hatchet and saw with them to lessen the weight in your pack
Lmao
Man this will be really helpful when I’m in the wood and need to nail into a log and I don’t have a rock or a slightly heavier object
I have a signal and use it everyday for so many different reasons. It’s been my favorite one I’ve owned. I’ve used and abused it and it keeps proving, yours is the coolest one I’ve seen mine was gifted to me so didn’t look at the options but makes me want another one!
Finally, after decades of gouging my hands out hammering all those nails in the woods that I totally use, I can do it with my premium brand multitool instead of a moderately sized rock.
This might sound really dumb - but I’ve had to rely on a leatherman to drive in a nail. I literally just swung it like a hammer. Worked like a charm.
the more i watch your videos the more i want more and more leathermans, i have a leatherman charge, but now i want all of them
😅
found one of these in a ethanol plant restored it and now its one of the best multitools i have
I'm impressed by the 1 deliberate miss that looked totally accidental
Love the color on that leatherman
Well I used to work with my dad when i was a kid and if I’m in a situation like this I would hear his voice behind me saying watch you fingers . Thanks man you reminded me of a gold times ❤️
I have wave for many years, i take it everywhere with me, i would love one of these
I have this leatherman. I usually just hold it on the nail & baton the other end with whatever I can find like a big stick or a rock.
you hit the nail on the head with this vid.
absolutely nailed it on this one
I was telling people for a long time to use the same method. Thank you for making it in a video form!
My Leatheman Wave is a hammer as well!
??? How?
Oh lawd finally, thats a way my crocodile brain couldn’t figure out 😂😂😂
This video made me get a leatherman and interest in outdoor stuff. Thanks brother!
I often hammer nails in the woods. I’ll remember this.
If you're in the woods, it's a good idea to take a hatchet.
Well in a pinch he means.🤗🇨🇦
@@constantravens4800 Why are you carrying around nails in a pinch?
Hatchets are heavy as fk
@@anonymousaccordionist3326you can find nails in a pinch
@@JoeZUGOOLA3-4 lbs ain't much and is worth it for the utility. Not only is it a hammer but can be used to gather fire wood
Thank you for the excellent tip! I'll try it with rocks too
You just blew my mind.
I've always thought that the "nail driver" "tool" was pure BS. Never really thought about the dangers, because I wouldn't even try to strike a nail with such a small tool.
But props to you for great technique and getting it done with the tool at hand! 😂
Good tip👍🏻
Oh, that makes sense. Stone aged men used stones to drive their nails.
This comment 👌
Their iron nails
@@JoeZUGOOLA Yep thats the idea
I wonder how it would affect the durability of the tool (I know it was designed for it, but stil). Thank you for sharing this. No more blood blisters or scratches.
Edit: just one warning, I did something similar using a sledgehammer head once, and afterwards I had pain on my fingers, close to the articulation/joint, and a small bruise. So don't go hammering a whole house worth of nails using that method.
Backup only lol
Thank you I’ll be buying a multi tool tmmrw
So simple but not something you'd think about until you hit the nail with your hand 😂 great tip 👍
Это невероятно! Гений!
Just bought same one, color n all. Also got the wave 🌊 in black
Good tip - of the nail !
In the emergency room, wishing I watched this video before hand
If I have to survive I would do everything to eliminate unnecessary wounds .
And that is clearly one of the worst .
Injuries on the hands while surviving can be lethal
Awesome idea
Great informative video!
I guess I love my leatherman signal it put this short in my algorithm, you earned a sub and a like 💪🤙😂😂
We have a small piece of land and the Signal is useful to tap in loose nails on the wooden gates. And fixing wire fencing etc. There are specific tools for everything but carrying fencing pliers,a knife, basic screwdriver and a hammer around with me every time I step out the door isn’t much fun. Signal covers the basics
That’s a dope knife
I don't have a signal but I recently got a Leatherman MUT with the same hammer style. I'm going camping in a month or so and was going to use it to hammer in my tent stakes, so I'm gonna be trying this grip.
*Great Idea*
This man out here stupid proofing instructions noice😂 someone definitely needed this
Sadly...Leatherman needs this..their marketing team is terrible
Nice Advice!
Good technique
Great tip 👍. Still rocking Swiss army though.
open the pliers and hit with the swivel part. More momentum and more surface too hit.
tried this, actually worse in my experience. and way higher chance of getting pinched in the pivot.
Hey that’s great I didn’t even think of that
Love my signal
I was checking out this multi tool about a month ago, I liked it but didn't like the hammer function because of the possibility of impaling my hand on the nail head,I hate accidents and was altogether turned off by that thought but you've got a great technique,so I may reconsider
Use a 2" thick, 2' long branch as a baton.
Hold the knife vertical with one hand and pound on the other end of the knife with the baton.
You nailed it.
Can confirm that’s valid
Good tip!
good idea
Mind blown 🤯
Going to buy this one. Looks great and I think gonna be great for hiking and mtb
Dude, common sense is only common if it's common, no more bashing my fingers needlessly. Thank you!
That's a good wisdom
Oh wow cheers for that
Judging by the 5 other nails in that log this guy had a few practice takes or just really liked hammering nails with a leathermen.
I dont need ANY tool. I just strike it with a closed fist. works just fine. Learned it from my dad, Chuck Norris.
Rock/Stone is like: psst..psssssst...ppssssssssssttt!
🤣 truth
Love my Green/Topo signal
No thanks, I'll find a rock.
Nailed it
They should have added some loops in there so you could try lashing it to a stick as a makeshift handle
Ingenious my dude😎
Also, if you have or can get cordage, you could secure it to a stick.
Thats hilarious: the peak of tool evolution and utility that fits in the palm of your hand, but a rock is still a better tool for some jobs!
Looked pretty hard drivin that into soft dead tree.
i love going outdoors in the woods, i bought the leatherman free p4 instead of the leatherman signal because i found that the leatherman signal was too gimmicky like the firesteel and hammer. i would rather make a hammering tool from wood using my leatherman than hammering with the tool witch would probally loosen alot of the screws after awhile of hammering with it...
I would just use the first grip but move my hand up so I’m only gripping the tool with my pinky and ring finger, but that’s just me.
Using the signal like a hammer jacks up the locking mechanism. It can slightly alter the angle. Happened to me.
Great idea!!! Drive nails into future firewood. What does your saw-blade think about that?? Or your axe-blade edge??
You could also find a stick and try and wrap it around so it looks like a hammer
In WWII my grandpa reshingled an entire roof and drove all the nails with his signal.
pre-drilled holes work wonders
Ok, I did NOT do that. I did however have to do this three times because I couldn't hold the camera in frame.
Палка? Камень? Нет! - надо ломать бесценный мультитул! Гений!
That you for showing me what thats look like
Just in general, considering the whole line of other nails pounded into the log....how many takes were needed?
Wow...mind blown..
This so called better way is the most common sense thing I have ever seen. I feel like this could be a learning segment on a cocomelon video.
Will be helpful when I am doing carpentry in the woods. With trees. Without my tools.
Does it work on with it's not rotten, too?
people: hammer
Me: Caveman Rock
With my victorinox I just use it like a hammer
You know, honestly, if you rest it on the nail and smack the other end with a log you can reduce knuckle damage.
Leatherman should have included this video in showing how to utilize the hammer the right way. Luckily for me I’ve been using this the same way you do when using the hammer, the right way. 🤘🏽
Awesome! I hate it when a company suggests something that can get them hurt.
Ah yes, I rememeber so.many occasions where I needed to Pound a Nail into something and my Toolcase wasnt right next beside me. Great Tool for that emergency!
Oops. Nope. Never happened in many decades on this Planet to me.
Or get a rock 😂
Truth.
Great video dude sub earned!
Mine is called the "MUT", wondering what the that male threaded deal is on the other side?
Man every video I see with a different leatherman tool makes it harder for me to choose which one I should buy to replace my 1970’s leatherman
The signal is very expensive and niche. Go for a supertool or a charge
