  • KTM 1290R Super Duke is one of my all time favorite motorcycles so when KTM UK offered me one for a couple of weeks to test I naturally jumped at the chance!
    I will be doing a load of videos about this bike but this one is my first impressions of this fine stead!

    Not too shabby considering the first Dukes where dirtbikes dressed up as roadbikes. KTM has come a long way.

    Mr Chops, I can't wait till you do the 2020 1290 Super Duke R overall riding impression. I'm definitely in the market for something new, my 2008 ZX-14 turbocharged getting old love hearing about all these new electronics. I will not be selling my 14, it's my touring missile with the wife on the back. The 14 just gets too hot in the city, and she's loud open pipe. Since we are of similar age, I take your review's best on CZcams. I've only owed Kawasaki's since my first 1975 H1 500. Since am 6'1" and 255 lbs being on the zH2 not happening I want comfort above all else. I've watched pretty well every video on 3.0 BEAST, comfort, great updates on the entire bike, and watching your video going through Spain, she certainly look amazing in handling along out of the corners. Looking forward to your review. They are only getting 3 of them, one been sold and with this stupid covid-19 shops closed, but you can purchase over the phone. I really don't want miss out what can be my dream machine. Stay stay🇨🇦.

    Yet another quality production & review. The electronics on the dash sound awesome..tier readout is brilliant & illuminated switch gear? Nice. Can't wait for the inevitable but unfair comparison between Tuono & SuperDuke after the 2 week's of you riding it around. • @mtriple8488
      @mtriple8488 Před 5 lety

      I've ridden both. The Speed R is a brilliant bike that you can absolutely take liberties on and it really looks after you. I went mental on it and always felt safe. The Superduke R is a different matter. You have to treat that with respect else you will get spat off for sure and could really hurt yourself. Way more powerful than the Speed. It's my next bike. Guess it's down to want you want. The Speed was a hoot and very friendly, the Superduke does not mess about. I was getting power wheelies in 4th over bumps in the road. The torque is addictive though!

    The factory remap also makes it a whole different (Even better) bike.

    Really enjoyed the video and it got me thinking about something. Obviously you've ridden your fair share of motorcycles and know a little more than i do at my grand age of 17. So my question is, by the time i turn 21 or so (old enough to have my unrestricted license and be able to ride 600+ supersports/nakeds, 1000's etc etc) do you think they will still have the same fun factor or be heavily restricted by laws such as euro4 and such? Cant help but feel that by the time its my turn to ride these motorcycles that they wont have the same "brutal" fun factor as they do now. Would really appreciate your thoughts, also really enjoying these long term review videos.

    • @LambChopRides
      @LambChopRides  Před 7 lety

      +Control. I think they will still be here for you, the electronics will improve and make them safer but that's no bad thing. They tried to limit bikes to 100hp back in the 90's and that never stuck! Sure they will be hear for you when your 21 and if not always used options 😎

    I have one of these, thought hard about the apprilia. Works best in track mode, that smooths out the blipper, traction on 1, anti wheelie off, throttle response sharpened up 😊 Austin racing slip on and a few other bits, love it ....

    • @markjolly8311

      Lamb Chop Rides the msr thing works a treat, so smooth knocking it down gears, but super Moto mode is a hoot ! Launch control scared the shit out of me, nearly flipped it twice, didn't try a third time 😂 I got 2700 miles out of the rear tyre, I took it to north west 200, they are not track tyres but more than good enough.

    • @LambChopRides
      @LambChopRides  Před 7 lety

      +Mark Jolly the supermoto modes needs a dongle yes?

    • @markjolly8311
      @markjolly8311 Před 7 lety

      Lamb Chop Rides no if you have the full electronic package you can turn rear abs off, which disables the msr as well, and you can lock the rear break up. I don't think you can turn front abs off though, not tried. You don't need the dongle if you have the track pack, it will stay in track mode if you leave it there. I saw the baron grumbling about no space for the dongle, once they upload the electronics he won't need it. One crap thing though, if you don't buy the track pack I don't think you can turn everything off like the early model, I'm not sure as I never owned the early one, had an RC8R before.

  • @MrMann-gt1eh
    @MrMann-gt1eh Před 5 lety

    Imma buy one for my first bike. I’ll just run the rain or b mode with a ton of trac and wheelie control for the first 3 or so months. I’ll open it up across a year or two. My first car was powerful and it saved my life when I joined the Navy and got stationed in Norfolk, Virginia. You needed something with power for that traffic. I don’t like getting on the highway in a weak pos with the throttle pinned, motor screaming, going 65 with cars shooting by. Fuck that.

      Lamb Chop Rides chops! i just trst drove the tuono factory and the mt-10 back to back and i was soooo suprised!, on the tuono its clearly a race bike with flat bars.. i was constantly looking at the dash and switches trying to fumble the indicators, and the throttle at low speeds sucked, l.. but my oh my that sound track once you get going wow... however i felt immediately at home on the Mt10 the quick shifter was wayyy better. bars were higher, felt softer definetly but once i opened up the taps jesus it sounds and goes just like that v4. test riding the super duke next week so settle the debate then itll be wallet out time.. question is will you be doing a long term test of the mt10 (i know you've already tested one) but i wander if you'll be turned like me.. appreciate your thoughts, views and vids dude. ta

      Ah good to hear Thomas, I would love to do an Mt10 long term but Yamaha are not responding to me :-( I remember from my ride it was fantastic and if you can live with the looks and slightly cheap finishings it is a great bike.. I do need to test one again.. Not tried the 2017 with QS so perhaps I should borrow one for the afternoon at least..

    noticed you saying it didn't feel as fast as what the clock's were indicating, could that be because your used to a lower seating position after riding the tuono and the RSV4 ? I have a varadero 125 ( 1st bike )and a zzr6 ( 1st big ish bike )and going 3o on the zzr6 seems like i'm going faster than when i'm going flat out on the baby varadero, But i have only been riding 3 years so have very limited knowledge on bike's, well chops if you carry on with these long period test rides where they give you a nice new bike for a week you wont have to actually buy a new one of your own lol.

    • @joeridestrijcker445
      @joeridestrijcker445 Před 6 lety

      I actually had to look up what a stone converts to ;) ; +/- 120kg, I noticed you were a 'big' guy too... just a wee bit heavier than me (I'm 18st)... and on some bikes this kind of body weight is detrimental for handling. I'll have a chat with the KTM guys... I hope I don't have to get the suspension completely re-sprung, that would annoy me...

    • @LambChopRides
      @LambChopRides  Před 6 lety

      +Joeri De Strijcker yeah when your larger like us it's well worth getting the suspension setup. Annoying on the WP forks you cannot adjust preload you need to reshim or respring to get it perfect

    • @joeridestrijcker445
      @joeridestrijcker445 Před 6 lety

      that's disconcerting news; the biggest issue I had with my Diavel was that it was nigh impossible to properly set-up the fork... I bought an Ohlins shock, but the Ohlins shock was just too damn expensive... ; on snooker-table like roads, no prob... but in real life, not all roads are perfectly smooth, at least not where I live. OR I go on a diet.... but it's quicker to have suspension re-sprung ;)

    • @LambChopRides
      @LambChopRides  Před 6 lety

      +Joeri De Strijcker tbh the WP suspension is nice and I wasn't disappointed with it out of the box. A setup will improve it I'm sure but don't think it will disappoint like the Diavel it's way more sporty than that 😀

    • @markshirley7639
      @markshirley7639 Před 7 lety +1

      mikhailtessier1 just traded my 17 superduke for a 17 tuono factory why oh why did I buy the sd. Great bike but the aprilla is in a different league 👍🏼

    • @mikhailtessier1
      @mikhailtessier1 Před 7 lety

      Different how? I am just learning about the Tuono that there is very little you can do for increased performance and maintenance is more pricey compared. With the duke you can do a couple mods easily and get 170+hp and 106 ft lb of tq. On the Tuono is it more harder to get anything extra out of it.

    • @markshirley7639
      @markshirley7639 Před 7 lety

      mikhailtessier1 to be fair I don't know why anyone would want more power out of a naked. The Ktm is cheaper out of the box but once you start adding on the electronic packages it about the same price as the tuono. You can the throw another £2000 at the Ktm to get another ten hp. In my opinion the old superduke was a much more exciting bike to ride more raw and more fun. Don't get me wrong the duke is a lovely marching but I'd buy the tuono just for the noise and quick shifter. Plus the ktm is a little unstable at speed . At the end of the day you test ride the bikes and make your choice. Plus as said here the tuono brakes are amazing 👍🏼

    • @mikhailtessier1
      @mikhailtessier1 Před 7 lety

      I agree with all your points lol I do love my Tuono but i do regret getting the RR model and not the factory model. I might go with the SD just because it is 120 a month cheaper in insurance and i am a big tq fan more then HP.

    KTM got it right. The other naked bikes are designed as no fairing track bikes and naked bikes should be powerful but comfy Standard bikes. If you want a track bike with a shitty narrow seat and a sore ass and no leg room get a Super Sport. This so far is the ONLY bike worth a crap for tall people Ive found.

      +NakedBeachRider yup being a larger guy this bike suits me better than the tuono which sways it for me tbh

      I was actually surprised just how tall it is, I'm 6 foot and could barely flat foot the ground when I sat on one at the dealership.

      The RC390 is a piece of shit. Made with cheap parts and not reliable at all according to owners

    Quite simply the best naked out there for the road IMO. To me the Tuono is just a de-faired super sports bike with flat bars. The SDR is just outright bonkers!

      i totally agree! i hate hearing every review oh the tuono is better then the superduke every video when all i see is an RSV4 when i look at it.

      the tuono is a first class power bike, i don´t care about if it is a nakedbike or not.

    • @FACTOTUM_55
      @FACTOTUM_55 Před 6 lety

      The whole point of the touno is that it's a RSV with upright bars. That's literally it's appeal .
