- KTM hosted a trackday for 1290 Super Duke R owners at Silverstone recently. As well as shredding rubber in a field of orange, 44T chatted to Jeremy McWilliams about his testing inputs with 'The Beast'.

Mcwillams seems like he genuinely loves riding in all forms he is just as enthused about wheelies in fifth as he is s1000rr laptimes. Such a talented rider who never got enough credit in gp riding.

Good insight into developmental process thru the current make. Decent audio...even with ktmjets in the vicinity.
The slope of that tank and upswing of the tail section match jeremy's skull and ear profile exactly.

I have had many bikes in my 40 years of riding and my 2017 Superduke 1290r is absolutely insane and i have it in street mode with wheelie control and traction control on, i havent even gone into full track mode with everything off yet no need its just that exciting and powerfull as is i mean it power wheelies in 4th gear what more do i need but its there when i want it and one day soon i will

Great vid guys. Every time you do a launch or test, please do an interview with an R&D guy like this. That way we can hear what they were trying to do and if you think they succeeded etc. If not it's just a couple of guys trying to make it to the big time by rambling on about bikes in a fantasy folly in Pontefract or some such scenario.

I can't get excited about superbikes and other supernakeds when this 1290 thing exists. I don't care if it's not quite as good on track as other stuff ultimately, because it whoops everything else AT everything else, and is comfortable, gets decent economy, has fantastic gear ratios, never ending torque, doesn't get boring. I'll never ride on a track, probably, and I don't need a race-track motorcycle for the street.
To get an idea how powerful the SDR really is, I've compared dyno charts and weight statistics with the Kawasaki ZX-14R. In spite the crazy power the 1,441 Kawaski chucks out, the 1290 SDR has a better power to weight ratio. Hard to believe, but true. Top speed? Kawasaki wins that with good aero, but who cares.
I have a second gen 1290 Duke. To me the figures are meaningless. It's all about how a motorcycle makes you feel. Cornering, brakes, acceleration, sound, the whole package. The Duke makes me feel mighty in a way my R1 never did. The seating position with the wide bars goes a long way. No motorcycle that I've ever ridden makes me feel quite as awesome as the Duke.
I own a second gen 1290 Duke. You get soooooooooooooooooooooooooo much quality motorcycle for the money. This is coming from my '05 R1. As stupendously fun as a superbike is, a hypernaked like the Duke just feels more accessible, practical and fun. It's real comfy for low stress touring, and transforms into an absolute beast on crack with just a twist of the throttle. It's an incredible amount of fun and satisfaction to own and ride a SDR. Worth every penny, even on a bike as expensive as this. Wouldn't trade it in for the world - Only the current Kawa H2 I would ever trade it in for.
Question? Do you know what exhaust was on that bike? I love the clean look....
On the prototype it was a prototype akrapovic that wasn't ever produced.

No that is little lame and i guess that is so expensive, then people would moan that price tag.
Austinracing has little same looks, but it looks more that upper/rear exhaust.
But i dont know why someone was not use test to use two separate austinracing exhaust and now i mean that lower set in front cylinder, then that upper in that rear cylinder..
Also you can search some logal metal worker who would make custom set for,.

bit of help please baron or fagan... ive sold my akrapovic limited edition RC8R (couldnt flog my McWilliams leathers though) and my S1000rr will be going soon too. I'm torn between an RSV4 and a 1290 SDR. Which would you choose? thanks in advance, best bike videos on CZcams...keep it up!!!
+Dermymoto _ Thanks! If it's road, 1290 all the way. Bit of track in the mix, RSV4 no doubt. No matter what you do (unless you spend big bucks), the KTM is too compromised for circuit. RSV4 is epic all the time but can't replicate the brutal thrills of the 1290....

The super duke and the MT10 are in my opinion the two best street bikes! Both are animals, fast fun as hell and dont break your back in traffic! Wait wait i have to admit the MT10 has the most uncomfortable seat ever put on a motorcycle though its literally that bad!!

Think it basically means that the input with your right hand is not identical to the actual throttle response, in order to smooth out the acceleration
A 10% 20% or 100% throttle opening be8ng the same in the throttle body opening basically not being 1-1 means you twist the throttle nore than the throttle body opens done to make power delivery more accessible i suspect
good setup hypejob . i almost started believing the ktm lived up to the hype of being a beast wich goes to warpspeed in no time while driving like a supermotard . if you wanna do trackdays , the monster and aprillia both beat it by quitte a bit

I'm confused, they have similar bikes and that's the closest it gets. You don't get RJ doing sit down talks about bikes, nor do you get him doing track days.
They are just so different, confusing to see the similarities.

Abit of a noob question but what did they mean by a 1 to 1 accelerator making it unridable?

It was meaning just he was saying, if that throttle would be 1:1, you cannot accelerator whit that power or torgue.
Like when you turn that throttle one mm it start to speed up, now that is little softer.

Probably setup for storage and flying it back/shipping it via boat Remember flying you have to have it completely drained no fluids or even trace of fluids and no battery installed anti terror and fire stuff. So the work involved is huge.
