    One thing I didn't mention, the phone integration is an extra to "unlock" its not standard.

      Bought recently used.
      The thing that I find most spectacular about this vehicle is that the engine can also be very sweet, raw power only if you want... it's a masterpiece.

    Great video. I lost the bloody "keyless" key on my BMW and it costs a small fortune to replace it. It now always resides in an inside pocket.
    That Duke is so damn cool.

    I just bought the Tuono factory. It was one of the hardest decisions to pick between that and the duke. The price I got on the Tuono was all that did it in the end. Both are awesome in different ways. The duke is more relaxed for the road imo. I could ride around all day on it. The Tuono handles better and i prefer the v4 engine sounds but it has harder suspension and more forward riding position. I would have both if i could. The Tuono also feels dated in some respects with old style headlights and indicators and then the rider electronics are more advance... decisions decisions :-)

    My main complaint with the Super Duke vs say the Tuono is that everything comes on both the RR and Factory (quickshifter w/ blipper), track mode, wheelie control being switchable, etc.
    KTM are nickle and diming customers to death on a bike that costs (at least in Canada) more than the Factory by over $1,000. Then to ask customers to pay $ to unlock the features that should have been included from the factory is outrageous.
    I love the KTM and am seriously considering buying one, but the lack of features that are included on bikes $4,000 to $5,000 cheaper is an insult I may not be able to overlook when it comes time to make the purchase.

    • @LambChopRides
      @LambChopRides  Před 7 lety

      +iamtherealzombie yeah at least the SD is cheaper than the Tuono here so you can get the same features and it's still a little bit cheaper than the Tuono... I don't like the fact the electronics are not there on the standard model when the hardware is on the bike

    • @iamtherealzombie
      @iamtherealzombie Před 7 lety

      Quite a difference in pricing on different sides of the Atlantic.
      Here in Canada a Tuono Factory is $18,595 (the RR is much cheaper at $15,795) and a SDR is $19,499.
      I love the SDR, but that's a lot of money to spend just to have to throw more money at KTM just to unlock the stuff Aprilia includes on the RR for almost 4k less.
      If I wasn't 6 hours away from the nearest Aprilia dealer, this would be a no-brainer in the Tuono's favour.

  • @KoalaKrunk
    @KoalaKrunk Před 7 měsíci

    I was looking at a tuona as well as this, the reason I chose the SDR over the Tuono was that I'm 6'6" and the SDR was so much more comfortable for me and I needed it for a daily commute to work as well so the comparative 46mpg on the Tuono to the 60+mpg on the SDR was a no brainer

  • @UnknownProdrive
    @UnknownProdrive Před 7 lety

    As you say it's the little touches.
    With a quality designed product the thought shows in the details.
    Also if the dash and controls are intuitive to use without fuss shows the same.
    It's not all about hooligan power and wheelies. Although they are extremely important too .
    Great stuff LC, but give me the Tuono for all round use. The Aprillia would be unbeatable with a bigger fuel tank and less of a thirst. I will wear it though for that sublime V4.
    Lovin your work sir, stay safe.

    Great Vid. In Australia the reason I purchased the 2017 Tuono over the Superduke is because I got the Aprilia for 23k and KTM wanted 26k plus I have to pay 1k to unlock the quickshifter and bluetooth ALREADY ON THE BIKE. Plus even more for the 'track' mode. Both great bikes but it really rubbed me up the wrong way with what seems like a quick money grab from KTM for what is included as standard from other euro bikes.

    • @LambChopRides
      @LambChopRides  Před 6 lety

      Yes your certainly not the first person to object to this.. In the UK the SD is 2k cheaper than the Tuono so you can offset it but when its more expensive... Hard to swallow

    Owned a Tuono 1100, stunning bike but it always encouraged me to absolutely rip the thing about - it also had some reliability issues but I won't go into that too much as I still love the bike/brand. I like the idea of the 1290 as it's a more relaxed riding style, but still has that ballistic grunt and best in class looks.

    • @valebliz
      @valebliz Před 7 lety

      @LambChopRides  Před 7 lety +1

      +Jim 86 yes it does encourage you to wiz about that V4.. gorgeous but think SD suits my riding style better don't need any encouragement to go fast! 😂

    • @jamsxr
      @jamsxr Před 7 lety +1

      It randomly cut out when changing from 2nd to 1st, and on one occasion would not start so had to get a lift back to the dealer. Annoyingly Aprilia could not diagnose the issue. To be fair it only did it a handful of times over 9k miles, but it still slightly tainted ownership. Looking at the forums it's not uncommon.
      I've got a Daytona R now for ripping about the twisties but I'm really keen on the 1290, it's just the price putting me off... Hoping if I buy one over the winter I'll get a load of extras included 😬

    There’s only one problem with the Tuono. Just one. And it’s the reason I’ll never buy one. It doesn’t have a fuel gauge. It seems absurd to me that the bike with the best electronics package outside of MotoGP doesn’t have a £2 fuel sensor. I get the rsv4 doesn’t have it because it’s a track focused bike. But the Tuono is a road bike!

      @ReferenceFidelityComponents Před 5 lety

      Use the trip counter...set each time you fuel up and allow a conservative estimate based on tested econony...its what we used to do before every bike had fuel sensors! Agree though its an oversight but That shouldn't dissuade anyone off the best sounding and handling road bike on the planet!

      @Joric78 Před 5 lety

      Considering how long I've ridden bikes with nothing but a fuel light and trip meter, and before that a reserve switch and odometer, it certainly wouldn't stop me from getting one. It does seem incredibly odd that even on the latest version (after plenty of critical feedback), with electronic everything and a TFT dash that has a real time display for lean angle as well as braking and acceleration g-forces, that there's still no fuel gauge. Still lean towards the SDR though, because I like that V-twin torque along with the tall and narrow packaging.

      Its a stonking bike, price on the track pack is £291, that give you the option to turn off wheelie control and have the adjustable traction control and its £495 for the performance pack, that includes the QS and MSR bits. So really you need to budget 15k for the bike IMO..

    • @BuffShamansplz
      @BuffShamansplz Před 5 lety

      I ride it a mix of spirited and cruising, I get 45-47 according to the digital display. Stock, no alterations, 2018 model. During break in when I rode like a Grandma (under 6k rpm) I'd get 50+ mpg.
      If you remap and get akra or some other system it probably will dip down to high 30's based on what I've read. Honestly I feel no need to modify the duke farther but all I do is commute and some spirited riding, a throatier exhaust would be nice though.

    • @Renzsu
      @Renzsu Před 7 lety +2

      a blipper revs your throttle for you as you do a downshift with your quickshifter. It's basically automated rev-matching and clutchless downshifts. Not all bikes can have a blipper, it's required to have ride by wire (I believe), as the blipper computer needs to override the throttle signal.

      Yes the 2.0 feels more stable and less skittish, suspension is still vague though and would benefit from the same treatment mine had. Its a bit more civilized than the 1.0 version, 1.0 is a bit more raw

      Twins have a lot more personality and the sound track is awesome. Fours are super smooth, develop power higher, but are a little forgettable over a long period of ownership. Whatever speaks to you the most at a given time.

      If you've got keyless just stall/kill the bike and they won't be able to start it. I don't actually know the figures but I'm guessing >90% of thefts are when the bikes without its owner. However, if the guy has a weapon and you prevent him from stealing your bike, I think you'll be the next target.

    This or rsv4 Tuono? The tuono is the hairy chested bikers bike...fewer frills, fewer unecessary gimick electronics (to go wrong which they can on the ktm....I'm a past owner of one) and more focussed with that glorious engine note. Tuono all the way for me as its character and abilities shine through stronger. Fuel guage is no bother...set the trip counter after filling up and be conservative about miles in tank. It's no mt10 which drinks fuel.
    The only bike I really regret selling was my last Aprilia. They have real character and are unrivalled on road or track. Ktm may have stronger residual values and appeal to vloggers more due to the electronics package?
    To me its just too much distraction for two wheels. Give me throttle,brakes, indicators, lights and horn....that'll do nicely. Rain and rain modes are a good thing on these modern bikes though as they genuinely need them with the power on tap.
    Hard decision....I think you'll buy the ktm, but deep down will want the Tuono 😉

    • @hullbreachdetected4846
      @hullbreachdetected4846 Před 5 lety +1

      the SDR is hypernaked and Tuono is hypersport, similar performance but SDR is more upright position SM-like with more torque, and the Tuono is closer to a supersport bike with more forward position and better aerodynamic properties plus acceleration. What I don't like about SDR is how KTM wants owners to buy those packs to unlock full control over their bike, for which they already paid a fortune for... Anyways for track days I would would rather take the Tuono, but for road the SDR with upright seating position (comfort) and more torque (5th gear wheelies) is rather my choice.

    KTM still treating their potential customers like retards I see.. If this was a 125cc Learner bike I could partially agree with intrusive rider aids- But on a 1301cc Hooligan bike it's just fucking annoying!

    • @surg23
      @surg23 Před 7 lety

      Except it won't stay off unless you fork out a further $300 for a stupid dongle that renders the bike illegal for road usage.

    • @surg23
      @surg23 Před 7 lety +1

      At the time of purchase (almost 2 years ago) the dealership wanted $280aud for the dongle. And yes I know exactly what the dongle does, hence my comment. Still additional money that you are forced to pay for a feature that should have been standard.
      I guess you don't own this bike, because if you did, you'd know the MTC programming is absolutely atrocious. Something that was supposedly made better on the 17 model. But for those that own 14,15,16 models the MTC makes the bike run like absolute shit, making the dongle a necessity.
      It's not hard to look at your screen to see what is enabled/disabled. I guess KTM don't think their customers are capable of reading or remembering.
