    There has been an update to sort the fuel gauge, it's a hell of a lot better now. Oh and if you start the bike up while the stand is down it can take up to 2 minutes to update the fuel gauge. If you start it up with the stand already up then the fuel gauge is already current. 100% agree on having to give the bike some time if you come off of say an inline4 like I did...it's such a different bike. A very fair and honest review.good job.

      +DeadHead thanks dude, I did notice on some of the other ktm's the fuel gauge would take ages sometimes to refresh after filling.. never made the connection with the side stand so thanks for pointing that out 👍

    This is my 3rd 1290, had two 1.0. Clearly I love the bike, 2.0 a little more refined & luv quickshifter. Although I have never ridden the Aprilia I think you made right choice & I agree the Superduke is a bike you can happily cruise on & still enjoy the feeling.I live in Pau in the S/W France & just got back from a 2000 km 5 day ride in Spain with my son who has 2nd generation MT 09 also fab bike. Pau is just 1hr from Spain so we always go there many times in the summer. It really is bikers paradise in the Aragon region fantastic roads & sights. If you ever decide to come down this neck of the woods I can show you some of the best roads in the world.

      @@BeatisMcScoots sorry for the late reply, I think there's more refined bikes out there. mine is a 2015 so the first series, I understand the new ones are a bit better but I just don't really like mine. Short trips around town isn't good for them, the big V twin sucks in a lot of moisture and I've had milky problems with my oil. If you're going to start one of these up you'll have to ride it and get it hot. It's still an amazing bike, don't get me wrong but for the price there's probably several other better bikes out there

    I always reset the trip meter to zero, and with ambitious riding I get over 150 miles to a tank full. So ignore the fuel gauge and just think about getting fuel at 130 miles or so. Still loving mine and of course, black is the obvious choice 😎

      Lamb Chop Rides I will ask but not bothered about getting it sorted until the next service. As with every bike I've owned, I reset the trip meter and it never lets me down. This has been a common fault on a number of bikes, and I last had the fault many years ago on a 1997 1200 Bandit.

    Great review of the SDR! Well done! I'm looking to buy a naked sport bike, and the Yamaha MT 10 and the 1290 Superduke R are on my short list. Regarding the question of the SDR vs. the Tuono, I disagree with you, in that it is easy to choose between those two bikes. The Tuono is essentially a sport bike, with its forward bars, tight seating position, low tuckdown windshield, and sport components, it is made for the track. Whereas the Superduke is constructed as a all arounder street and sport bike, with its taller seating position, higher bars, and taller stature in general. So, although it has the power to match the Tuono and then some (greater torque), the seating position and overall taller structure, slightly reduces its track performance comparatively. So, IMHO the Superduke is a better Naked Sport bike, as it performs better within its intended class. Put the Tuono up against other dedicated sport bikes and it would not fair as well. Probably better to say the Tuono is a good choice for those who want a Sport bike with a slight nakedness to it. I am really leaning towards a 1290 Superduke R for my next bike. I'll put a windshield on it, a comfort seat, and medium sized paniers (semi hard sided or hard sided if I can source some good looking ones), and heated grips, to set it up for touring as well, and Bob's Your Uncle, a geat all arounder. Great review. Love the frank comments.

    If you are used to a straight cylinder bike you may not like this" true but if you are coming from a Harley-Davidson or Ducati [also V-twins ] you will love the smoothness of the KTM.

      Is it faster than the KTM?

    • @aluisious
      @aluisious Před 7 lety

      They're both big high power revvy twins. I've ridden both, the Duke is a touch wilder, but the Multistrada was merging onto freeways at 105mph *accidentally* before I got used to it, it's also maniacally fast. It'll loft the front the whole way down an onramp, wheelie at 120mph going up a mountain with a passenger and bags, but is much better in town doing slow stuff, or in heavy traffic. The Duke shudders harshly if you let it drop under 4k and open the throttle.

    • @1-shotslinger108
      @1-shotslinger108 Před 7 lety

      The KTM seems a totally incompetent rider could still be in any gear. But my Ducati will shutter badly. Once I got the KTM I realized my Ducati was slightly underpowered for my body weight [300 lbs]. Dodge rider claims you can't use 6th gear under 80 . I was cruising 6th at 62 mph the other day no shutter so I think Dodge Rider exaggerated .

    • @wogga8
      @wogga8 Před 6 lety +3

      E.S. Slc yes, bought a 2015 version with 7k on the clock. I've had it for 6 weeks now. It was completely stock when I bought it. I've put a new cat eliminator pipe on it, done the tail tidy and a radiator guard. The thing is quick, really quick and surprisingly easy to ride. I had a 2015 GSXR 1000 previously and this feels quicker and is so much more fun to ride. I love it and cant get the grin off face every time it sit on it and start it up. I ride it in sport mode and it is everything ill ever need. I'm 45 years old and have never enjoyed riding more. By all accounts the 2017 model is even better. Just like Chop said, you won't regret buying one of these. They look great and go even better.

    • @EEEBA1
      @EEEBA1 Před 6 lety

      Darryn Waugh Thank you for the quick response. I'm the same age as you are and currently have a BMW S1000R.
      My only fear with the KTM is the constant wheeling since I have no experience at it and don't know how to wheelie properly....

    • @wogga8
      @wogga8 Před 6 lety +2

      E.S. Slc before buying the duke I rode an S1000R, a Tuono and an MT10. Overall I thought the Tuono was the best bike but the most expensive to, but the duke was more fun. I have never been big on doing wheelies either. The duke will lift the front end but you will feel it happening and it's very easy to avoid as long as you don't switch all the electronics off. If you can control the front on your BMW then you won't have any issues with the duke. I've never felt the front end lifting uncontrollably. It's always been predictable. Sport mode is amazing. You do feel like you sit up quite high on the bike but i like that. The worst thing on the bike is the mirrors , and trying not to overtake everything, all the time because its just so easy. The S1000R is a great machine, the duke is just alot of fun.

      Thats a very good question... They are very similar indeed, as I only really ride for fun, no commuting, no real touring I would go with the standard 1290 R. The GT is a tiny bit heavier and has last years SD electronics, Im sure next year it will get the updates and then would be much closer.. The GT also has a little more torque and bit less top end power so as a pure fun only machine has to be the 1290R

    Here is the negatives : they sell you a bike with an uncomfortable seat and you have to buy an Ergo seat. You have to pay to have the turn signals programmed to self-cancel. $49 bucks { which is a safety issue that should come with the bike ] I love the bike.

    • @1-shotslinger108
      @1-shotslinger108 Před 7 lety

      Yes riding with an in-canceled turn signal is a safety issue . My other bikes are pre turn signal. Harley-Davidson switch is momentary so you can't leave it on{ don't have that , just saying]. All my life I have used hand signals [still do] . I forget on my Ducati also. So If KTM has a program to automatically turn off the signal , then why would that not come with the bike ? Excuse me if I'm not used to fucking turn signal and my company had a way to fix it but made me pay . Fuck that !

    • @aluisious
      @aluisious Před 7 lety +1

      You're right that it is lame if they have the feature but it's not enabled. But it was just funny to me, because I have never had a bike with self cancelling signals (including my Multistrada, which otherwise is about as fancy as bikes come), and of all the safety issues with riding a bike, leaving a signal on is a zero.
