Song plays and instantly im thinking and seeing my late father. Before I know it I have tears in my eyes. Then im smiling writing this comment knowing that it will be read by others who just get it. I can’t wait to be with my dad again one day.
This a song part of a continuum, of truth being past down through the ages - the words of the message might change, but the message stays the same, I think it is simply one of the most insightful, compassionate and beautiful songs of my 72 Years. Thank You Mary.
My father passed away in 2009. On the 10th anniversary of his death I sang this song in his memory and dedicated it to his son (my brother) and my son. The officers that policed under my dad when he was chief cried like babies. I cry every time I hear this song. We all could use some mercy now. It cuts to the heart and soul and so true. I loved my father, still do and always will. Rest in peace dad.
My daddy dyed when I was 6yrs old. I was always be daddy,'s girl in my heart. This song when I listen to it I cry a lot he dye age 36 he was in Vietnam War. Part of me went with him. Now I'm All alone, but I talk to My Lord Jesus, and my Heavenly Father. My. Kid's don't understand. When Veterans Day I cry thinking of me wishing he was here with me.this song is to him
My dad is currently in a bad way healthwise. I heard Mary Guathier interviewed on Folk and Acoustic Music today. She's a national treasure, and she was a wonderful interview. This song was played during the interview. It spoke to me, and I needed that comfort.
I was getting my ice coffee this afternoon when this song came on the radio. I cried in the parking lot for the whole song. The music, Lyrics and meaning. It was a rough couple minutes indeed
This song gives me chills...It is one of the best songs I have ever heard. Especially about the brother. He's been away most of his life and I miss him terribly. Thank you Mary G.
"My church and my country could use a little mercy now As they sink into a poisoned pit it's going to take forever to climb out' "People in power, they'll do anything to keep their crown' "We hang in the balance dangle 'tween hell and hallowed ground And every single one of us could use some mercy now' What a song . as i write this on October 12th, 2020 i find it simply amazing how this pertains almost exactly to this time.
I just discovered this song/artist on my Spotify Daily Mix. Hearing this song is so timely for me, as my father passed away one week ago, and every word of Mary's song resonates with me. Thank you for sharing your talents with us.
I listened to this song one lonely day on the vacation I did on my own. I sat on the beach in Tel Aviv, watching waves and listening to this. Unforgettable moment. I really could use some mercy back then.
I love Mary Gauthier and her music. Her song-writing capabilities are over the top! Her lyrics know our souls and punches us right in our vulnerable places. I feel this song all the way to my core! I would love to meet her to thank her personally for sharing her gift! I will have to put that one my bucket list.
"As a songwriter, I'm always trying to go to the deepest possible place inside of me. Past the navel-gazing, past the self-conscious, to get to that 'we, cause deep inside of all of us is the universal. And that is an artist's job, to transcend the self. I'm in there, but then hopefully, it goes past that and it hits something far, far bigger and more important than me. That's what I'm aimin' for every time I write." Mary Gauthier I got to see Mary live in an intimate Nashville venue last spring. Everything she sang reflected her intent and made songs we all could feel and relate to that night. She's one of the greats.
I first heard Mary Gauthier on NPR about 6 years ago. I'm a huge fan. and this song in particular. If you liked this, you might like Phosphorescent - My Dove, My Lamb, and Tret Fure - A Piece of the Sky and The Rain. You won't find the really good stuff on radio anymore.
just lost a close friend, so finding/ being introduced to Mary Gauthier's perfectly in tune words a great find.i will now be a follower. Thanks path finder!
I was out in the country in a beautiful spot. The day was nearly over and sunlight was filtering through the trees. This song came on the radio and it was...MAGIC. It gave me such peace. It was a God moment for me.
I heard this song a few years ago and it touched me like no other song has. Being a musician I realized I wrote a version of this and forgot where the inspiration had came from. It was this song. Thank you Mary.
just absolutely van fecking tastic...I found you through Allison Moorer and then again through Yellowstone....I play violin as well as sing and play guitar ......your songs speak to my soul....and I absolutely love playing them.
I saw Mary Gauthier last night in Jackson, TN at a house concert. Wow, I loved her music! Mercy Now is one of my favorite songs from the concert! we could all use mercy now!!! Way to go Mary!!!!
Love love love this beautiful song. Love Mary's awesome performance. So good. And I totally agree we could all definitely use some mercy now. God help us. We so need it.
Thank you Merry! In your song, you reflected everything that can and is real in the family and that is the main thing! I’m a Father, a husband, already 35 years old and for me it is a great value, but not at the expense of the future of my children. Their choice and happy life is my goal. You helped me convince myself of this! Come to Baikal - Americans are loved here! Even Greeted posted 12 times!
I needed this today. Last month, my husband went into hospice care. My best dog who was only 5 years old died from cancer. A week later, my cat died from a sudden heart attack. Today, I had to have a dog that I have raised for 1-1/2 years put to sleep for attacking and trying to kill other dogs. And this afternoon, a litter of 5 puppies I rescued went to the vet and are hospitalized with parvo. I could sure use a little mercy now.
I came here after listening to the streaming set played on iradiophilly of the 2018 Philadelphia Folk Festival. I cried when she sang “Mercy Now”. She says nowadays people beseech her to keep going; to keep working for our military veterans. Her work is grant funded. So thankful such positive forces are at work. “My church and my country could use a little mercy now. As they sink into a poisoned pit; it’s going to take forever to climb out. They carry the weight of the faithful who follow them down. I love my church and my country; they could use a little mercy now”. She ended with "This Land is Your Land" and talked about why it is the most played song from the PFF stage. It’s the same reason I keep coming back. Thank you Mary Gauthier.
The woman playing the violin/viola (not sure what instrument) is making it weep, just as I do when I hear this song. I have a dying brother right now, and this song hits me hard.
I have listened to this song intermittently for some years. This is a song for all time, but especially for our world right now. Thank you Mary. ❤
First fer me
Song plays and instantly im thinking and seeing my late father. Before I know it I have tears in my eyes. Then im smiling writing this comment knowing that it will be read by others who just get it. I can’t wait to be with my dad again one day.
Beautifully said , feel exactly the same
Amen Brother, my family and friends that have passed outnumber the ones I have left so I can totally understand.
This a song part of a continuum, of truth being past down through the ages - the words of the message might change, but the message stays the same, I think it is simply one of the most insightful, compassionate and beautiful songs of my 72 Years. Thank You Mary.

"Yellowstone" (on the Paramount Network) has introduced some fantastic music to the viewers of this series... this song is just one of them. Love it!
That's where I first heard it last night. Now I can't get it out of my head.
@@BarbaraatQueensAvenueTarot is it a movie or a tv show?

"We hang in the balance dangled, between Hell and hallowed ground". My goodness. Sheer Brilliance
My dad is currently in a bad way healthwise. I heard Mary Guathier interviewed on Folk and Acoustic Music today. She's a national treasure, and she was a wonderful interview. This song was played during the interview. It spoke to me, and I needed that comfort.

It's so inspiring when a woman is a maverick while she keeps her grace in the forefront ... thank you Mary.
I fully agree, and I'm a man.
Gender doesn't really matter so much. Heart is where it's at.
I had never heard her until Yellowstone. Love this song.
Yellowstone sent me here as well. The music... I didn't know it existed. So thankful
I need this song today. Thank you Mary. We all need some mercy now. Peace and love to all people!
Such a Beautiful Song! We All need some Mercy Now
Very accomplished fiddle player is Tania Elizabeth. The 5th string adds so much depth. Her tone is stunning and her taste is spot on.
She's playing a viola.
@@davegutierrez5553 violas have 4 strings - this appears to be a 5-string hybrid instrument.
There is a song that transcends time and history to be always true and applicable.
Peace to you David

We could all use some mercy now, during Covid, July, 2021.
Oh God, this woman tears my heart out when she sings her songs. So real.
Same. Stunning.
she is such an honest song writer. The closest thin we now have to the irreplaceable Ann Wolf.
Listening to this on 4.1.2020, in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. Fitting song for our times.
Just heard it today, 6-6-20, the week of the murder of George Floyd...so relevant...
My thoughts, too, several months later. Wishing you some mercy now.
listening to it the day after the first Presidential debate and the song seems even more poignant.
"My church and my country could use a little mercy now

"People in power, they'll do anything to keep their crown'
"We hang in the balance dangle 'tween hell and hallowed ground

Saw her live the other day with Tim and Troubadours. She blew us away. This song. My Lord.
In today's world this song describes the pain so many of us carry around and the unity of faith in what ever we believe.
