I love how the guy coughs as he’s talking about the lungs in the autopsy report. Either that’s psychological due to being uncomfortable talking about the lungs being taken over by the fungus, or he has now accidentally infected himself breathing in the fungus’ spores. Either way, it’s a good subtle detail from the creator.

The random images on the monitor seem to have the pattern that humans always want more land. They discovered the Americas, then they went to space, and now they’re going into different dimensions.

Yea! It could be symbolizing how humans have always wanted more, even when we had enough and now our greed has opened a dangerous dimension slowly absorbing our population.
I'm not sure if this was specific to the Kane lore or what, but I read theories that the government essentially contracted Async to either use or create the backrooms for infinite storage or possibly even infinite housing. So this does seem to track with this observation.
edit: i also don't know like where async sits in canon. pretty sure I read this theory on the original found footage video, and that person I think read it from other backrooms canon theories. whether async was included or not idk. but clearly async would be in the kane canon as it seems like they're either the ones who discovered or created the backrooms.

i have a theory: the monsters in the backroom could be the camera, in the first video, on the wall it said "don't move, stay still", plus the tripods here can be be affected by a mold and it turns it into the monster, that's why they wrote don't move on the wall, it's because the monsters only react to movement and sound like a motion camera.

think it's a pretty natural one when you look at the shapes of the entities
i tried to rationalise how the pathogen could affect inorganic matter but then i ended up exploring other plausible ideas like the pocket dimensional space having physical laws different to ours; if its a coded structure that simply ran out of control; its copying mechanism run rampant; maybe it influences all matter and only the null zones serve as grace regions
imagine the space's laws merged the matter of the tripod w the residual identity and information present within a human; would explain the ability to warn the protagonist via the wall and the humanoid screaming

i thought the same thing. i went back and rewatched the video to confirm that’s what i was thinking.
It just occured to me that the missing camera that wasn't listed in the diagram could be\become the tripod monster we saw in the first video. The only activates when it detects motion like it was preprogrammed to do, hence the warning "Don't Move."
Would be cool to watch the POV of the tripod monster hunting down people

Kane has actually personally said that he is not drawing from the original Backrooms lore at all, so you don't have to study any of that for this.

But even if he said he isn't, the levels he's shown in the found footage video are from the fandom and wikidot wiki. So the level layouts are definitely inspired from those. Namely level 0, 1, 188. Sure, the way to get there is different from the original canons, but the levels have the same theme. So I do think reading up on the first 13 levels of the bacrooms (0-12) would be a good idea as we've gotten hints to those based on what we have seen. It would take you at most an hour to read all the info on the wikidot for them.
So what i get is that kane has incorporated some levels from the backrooms wiki in his own way, meaning, different entrances, exits and layouts. To put it short. Backrooms except kane has his own lore

Right before mirror mat pointed it out I also thought it was two people coming back but when matpat played it back I noticed the third person in the middle
there was a person inbetween the two, it was only the position of the camera because you could see them holding an object.
51:19 is bit more accurate as you can see second person bit more clearly as person with case is behind wall while there appear be goggles.

As it turns out the government doing messed up shady stuff in these kind of series is more accurate to real life than we all want to think about
MkUltra happened, verifiably. After that, I'm not willing to dismiss any depths.
So here’s my mini theory: Since it was mentioned that the bacteria could be found in human feces, I believe that is how the bacteria is being spread/reproduced. Also, in one of the clips (I don’t remember which honestly), one of the men who walk into the backrooms ask if there’s a bathroom in there. Which when you think of it? There isn’t. So when you need to excrete, you have no choice but to use an open area in the backrooms, which leaves lot of room for the exposure and spread of bacteria.
Feel free to disprove or further support my mini theory below, this is just a thought I had midway through watching this video and I kinda wanted to bookmark it 😂

And since time is really weird in the backrooms, relative to the bacteria, thousands or millions of years could have passed since it was first brought to the backrooms giving it plenty of time to evolve and be changed by the backrooms even if the amount of time from the first contamination could have been only a few years realtime. The bacteria could have been brought into the backrooms during some experiment without anyone knowing and it was mutated by the backrooms

I honestly appreciate Matt taking a minute to give a very basic lesson in how to do research and think critically about sources.
And then falls down a rabbit hole about how the US Army dumped bacteria on New Yorkers taking the subway, in the name of seeing how they'd react because of bio attacks concern, with the only reason we can even know about this being that the Army was asked to disclose this info by the _Church of Scientology_ . There's like, so many layers here

And its in his lungs. It was feeding off his oxygen, and when he died, it began fermenting causing chemicals that caused preservation.
There is a type of methanol-utilizing yeast (another fermenting bacteria) that produces formaldehyde and creates change in digestive enzymes!
Also. If it lives in our guts, it probably lives in other organs.

There was one government experiment, which involved someone’s theory to remove trauma by inducing amnesia, through trauma.
He expressed immense pride when he preformed many horrible tests on a 19 year old Honours student, and the results were that she was reduced to the mental capacity of an infant, and unable to survive without constant care.
It’s nuts what they did, they declassified a good number of nasty stuff, and then said “We promise to never do it again” because that’s believable I think the one I vaguely recall, and recount above, was part of the CIA doing the regular spooky things they do.

The guy doing the autopsy asks where the corpse comes from (nervously, as if he knows he's not supposed to ask) and then we see the tv with the first images being what could be microscopic images from the autopsy, the Async logo, a scientist or engineer we've seen previously associated with the backrooms, and then the termination document. This reads to me as a "scientists putting research before safety" type of story with them firing anyone who starts asking questions rather than a scrapped project.

@@OldestHouse In a blurry image of handwritten text there are a number of explanations why you wouldn't see the dot over an "i" in one place, but would find it in another. For example, the quality could be bad in that particular spot (which it does seem to be), so the dot got lost in the noise. The person writing it may have just forgotten to put a dot there as well, I know I've done it.
We can only see the end of the word. Specifically the "...logist" part with what looks like it could be a tiny bit of an "o" before it. I jumped to biologist because we were dealing with someone looking into the biology of whatever this new fungus or bacteria is and dissections or that kind of examination is right in a biologist's wheelhouse. However, the word could very easily be a different "ologist" though, such as pathologist which is someone who does autopsies.
The main point I'm making isn't about the profession of the person though, but that the document looks to me like a termination as in someone being fired rather than a termination of something like a government contract, which is what he was speculating about in the video.

I wish he’d watch the videos first then tangent, pause, theory, and whatnot, personally. A lot of viewers don’t watch the videos themselves and when matpat spends several minutes at a time tabbing back and forth on single frames… it becomes obnoxious when you just want to know what the spooky video is so you have good context for the theorizing.

HUGE BACKROOMS LORE THEORY: If you go to Kane Pixel's Ko-fi account (in the description of his videos), and view his gallery, the first photo he posted was a picture of the monster tripod, and it's named "bacteria". So my theory is that the tripod monster is the same thing as the hay bacillus bacteria seen in "Autopsy Report", because in the Wikipedia page for hay bacillus, it says they are able to become motile (capable of motion) by taking up DNA from the environment. So the tripod monster is probably made up of the bacteria with the DNA of some organism (most likely a human).

Dad (The CZcamsr) posted a video recently titled "Kane Pixels" and the thumbnail was a picture of Kane's missing person poster. It had since been deleted and I didn't get a chance to watch it. Maybe Dad is somehow involved?
I wish I had watched the video to get more knowledge, but I guess we should be watching Dad more closely...
Or alternatively, just to throw up another theory, the tripod monster is some sort of corruption of one of the cameras seen in Motion Detected, because in the found footage the writing on the wall said "don't move stay still" and the cameras were set up to send an alert when substantial noise or *movement* was detected, meaning the 'camera monster' was still following its original directive to react to movement or noise. But that could be just a misdirection by Kane.
Which would explain why it preserves the body
The end of the first video: the red light seemed to me like a sunrise...
Could be a little... basic, but with the image getting clearer and clearer towards the end it really reminded me of a sunrise in a plain land (with also something like a tree in the right part...)
and a sunrise or a reversed sunset, because the lights turns from red to yellow

So someone mentioned this theory before, but in the motion detected video (March 5, 1990) the room Async is building is suppose to be the same room the lost researcher from the informational video finds and triggers the alarm (February 29, 1990), meaning he was warped into the future. So it's possible that Async is aware of this, and this project is not just simply to create an infinite room for storage purposes. This video also gives us more hints about the monster we saw in the first video. What does the monster looked like? A tripod. And the cameras record when there's motion/noise detected, and if you remember there was a message on the wall basically told people to stay still.
seems likely the microphone failure was it getting infested with the stuff, and it became the thing seen in the next segment

And I agree about the time warp thing. Matt was saying that this video couldn't connect with the video of the researcher getting separated from the rest of his group. But if the backrooms bend space AND time, it's plausible.
@@captainbeard8035 I’ve been posting about this for weeks too with very little exposure too. I came to that conclusion within 72 hours after informational video release by cross checking it with the date and the room seen in the unlisted tar archive video. I imagine there’s a bunch of us that all came to the same conclusion but due to the sheer amount of people commenting on his videos, we all got drowned out. Now that motion detection all but confirms it, most people will eventually catch on to what’s going on.
Here’s another thing I’m curious about from the last video (informational video). In that video the date was February 29 1990 which is a leap day. Here’s the issue: 1990 wasn’t a leap year, at least not in our realty. This in my opinion opens up the possibility of there being alternate timelines, parallel universes, etc being at play.
Like it would be interesting if the dude at the end of informational video shut the door to the room and basically hid in there until the portal opened back up and he ran out and tried to explain what was going on only to be detained. He explains to Async that he was part of the feb 29 1990 expedition, only for Async to inform him that that day doesn’t exist and then they get really suspicious of him and do some digging with their government partners and come to the conclusion he doesn’t exist and they don’t have any idea who he is. This would explain why in missing persons when they came across the body why there were only 3 people, because somewhere in the middle of the video we transitioned to a different perspective from the alternate timeline where lost Dude in informational video and feb 29 1990 never existed (in missing persons it starts with a crew of 4 dudes, but at the end it only shows 3 dudes).
I have much less confidence in this theory/hypothesis but I am convinced from everything Kane has put out that the dates are super important and therefore the February 29 1990 date was no accident/mistake.
Also, Matt, if you look at the diagram of the camera layout again, you'd see that only 6 camera lines are visible. The 7th camera isn't listed on the diagram, meaning it's hidden somewhere; so what are they hiding and where was that particular camera aimed?

The back rooms is such an incredible piece of internet creations and just the way it is designed from a simple, yet effective piece of writing and an image is insane. The pure eerie ness of the yellow walls is amazing. For one thing, the found footage videos sure scared me enough to struggle to get to sleep for a couple days!
In “Autopsy Report'' at the end with the image of the “pilgrims” what if it’s referring to the disappearance of Roanoke.

I think that time works differently in the backrooms which is why he is giving us times for the perspectives. Also it seemed like the figure floating was like an astronaut in space. It could very well be one of the first humans it copied and copied how they move thus floating like that where they shouldn't be floating

Oh fun i actually know this. So the quick flash image where matt speculates “duplicates” of the twins and their children; this is actually an oil painting displayed in Tate Britain gallery in London. It’s called The Cholmondeley Ladies, and is speculated to be twin sisters who were born and married the same day presented with their infants. Altho its unknown whether they were actually related or just married into the same family by coincidence. Not much is really known about the two, but by the style of painting it suggests it was made during early 1600s. Very beautiful to see irl 👌🏻✨
But yeah i have no idea how it could correlate with this creepypasta or why specifically this painting would be incorporated but its a very nice painting nonetheless.

I have a theory: what if the fungus or “pigment” inside the body that’s in an autopsy is why the walls are yellow in the backrooms ? Since the fungus/bacteria seems to be a yellowish color. So that could mean the whole back rooms is bacteria/fungi ? That would be pretty cool 😯

After the autopsy report there is a clip of the pilgrims on the TV screen. I heard someone say that the backrooms would explain the disappearance of the Roanoke colony and this actually holds up pretty well as in the informational video, the camera man who gets lost stumbles upon a room with foliage wall paper and sees wheelbarrows, and an axe that look extremely similar to the models of those tools used by English colonists in the 1600s… 😳
Yeah but in real life the colony just integrated with the nearby native Americans in order to survive. I doubt that's the lore bc what happened to them has already been figured put

I could see this but right before it there was a big volcano so if so the village could have been like pompey. The reason it couldn't have been the Roanoke colony is because the people where believed to have been to move in with the native people and just live with them

I think this is less of a tentacle monster and more of an oddly positioned human. It kinda looks like the silhouette of a 0 gravity aeronaut drifting around the corner upside down and then moving back once spotted.

I love stuff like this, where you have to dig deep and do research to figure out the whole story. A lot of people don't like it, but I think it's really fun.
Well according to some people Kane is writing his own lore about the backrooms inspired by OG 4chan post so the levels and entities might be not canon in Kane's series.
I have a theory about why MatPat hasn't been invited to Hot Ones: from what I've seen the episodes usually end with guests promoting their latest work and whatnot so maybe it's not a free invite, but some sort of agreement has to happen (eg. money) for the ad spot?
But that's just a theory... a HOT theory :)

I love that Matt pointed out the human proportion of that shadow. (I only saw wavy tentacles, initially) I don't know if it is time yet but we dont know what it is like to see a "no clip" through reality, could that glitch be preparation for no clip. (if not we should still keep an eye out for the other angles)

For some reason I don't think that looks like experimentation, since when I look at the image I see them dressed in semi-victorian era clothing, with an large necklace and very puffy clothing as well as a high collar (something that would be akin to elite victorian clothing from the looks of it). So it would rather suggest the existence of either cloning since then or a tangent into alternate-like beings or into how the fungus easily integrates itself into the host
@@PranavYadlapati it's possible if you squint at it. Experimentation was rife in mental hospitals early on. Photography was invented in 1826 wasn't usually used by the wealthy though? Observation and experimentation wouldn't be far off especially if people were looking into the fungus.
Not sure how exposed you are to SCP in the past but it would be so cool to see you do individual lore breakdowns on popular SCPs or even the organization as a whole
For anyone worried, yes the body’s eye shifts very slightly as if it’s looking at the camera before the TV scene. This detail was also noted in the comment section of the original video.

51:11 once the first guy’s helmet moves behind the wall you can see a second helmet, there is in fact three people there.
Also on the first video, with the tripod monster, the part where the camera falls away from the monster and comes out of the Back Rooms the camera briefly turns backwards for a second and shows the monster had grabbed the camera holder.
Yeah the camera holder is the one having the autopsy, and time gets trippy here because the tripod monster is, and hear me out, one of the motion cameras used in this video. They look identical, and it would explain the warnings not to move, since it's a motion camera it's vision was only turned on when theres movement or audio. You can see its the guy too because the monster grabs the victims right side, the side that's badly damaged in the autopsy. It's a crazy time thing that no one can explain

The area where the cameras are in motion detected looks like the same area from informational video except still being built. This makes it seem like the backrooms have a property which allows a form of time travel to occur, which can explain why in the first video the beginning said one date, but the description said a different date. Maybe kane clipped into the backrooms on the first date, but since time is weird there, when the camera clipped out, a large portion of time passed and the second date is either when the camera clipped out or when it was found.
The purpose of the backrooms "storing stuff" is definitely true on one part. But it is not what the government either expected or explained

43:25 looks like it could be footage of Castle Bravo flipped upside down. Given that Bravo was nearly 3x stronger than intended (15ish megatons of TNT equivalent compared to 4-5) it could be symbolic of something to come in a later video
I don't know what it could possibly mean, but when I look at those two images, all I see is two sunsets/sunrises, one close up, and the second a little zoomed out over a body of water.

I think there were three returning researchers, the third guy is like right behind the first, so he's hard to make out.
In the comments of the video I saw talk that the tripod monster from the first video was actually cam three after the mold took it over. That is what the mic failure was. Because that is why the words say “don’t move” the camera only recoded when it detected sound or saw movement. So the monster only sees when it hears or sees movement.
That kinda seems like a person floating mid air, idk with all the "moon" reference in the first video might be something relative to gravity or maybe an astronaut no-clipped , btw Matt you are sooooo entertaining you and all the theorists crew deserve all the love of this world

I thought the red circle at 44:00 was a sunset either upside down and on the horizon or right side up and between two mountains. It really looked like the latter option when it zoomed out a bit
I agree with it being a sunset, but I was seeing it more as an upside-down sunset over the water. There were just so many ripples that I thought only fit the most iconic sunsets over the water.

51:53 The construction is them building a control/observation room like the one we see at the end of the Informational Video. The front wall / window placement and tile are similar if not identical. Or possibly the same room we see in that video, if you're willing to speculate that the guy who goes missing on 2/29 is lost for several days (or experiences some kind of time skip when we see the glitch effect), which would explain why he seems confused when he finds the room.
You should also look into when the Army sprayed bacteria into the ocean near the San Francisco Bay area for several days turning it red to see how it would work as a chemical attack.
