I just appreciate the fact Kane Stuck to his Story, even if someone like Mat Got to it first and told us. He didnt back out or try to lead it in a whole other direction. Its nice
25:25 i think the idea is that Tench believed he was STILL INSIDE the Backrooms while in the A-sync facility. So going outside of A-sync would just lead him further into that portion of "the backrooms".
Using that logic, the best idea would be to backtrack back into the backrooms and search for the "Real" exit, or some other form of exit into the real world. Because remember, in his mind, A-sync = A false A-sync created by the backrooms. So he's going back into the backrooms to search for the real one.

Makes a lot of sense from his perspective, given how different A-Sync's setup must have looked when he returned.
That is what they said in the video, but that also could've just been something they threw in there to add to their theory of his deteriorating mind. They wanted people to think he became delusional and died to a rock to the face. They could've easily lied about this to cover up them killing him even more than they already were.
I love how as the narrator says "the morning of March 1st" the screen clearly says Feb 27th, letting us know we can't trust what we're hearing

This cannot be emphasised enough. We now have three different dates referring to one fairly established event. Kinda makes you wonder if different versions of the backrooms/reflections are happening simultaneously -almost as if the infinite nature of the backrooms is predicated on layered instances that bleed over.

The phone ringing gave me chills, it made me think that tench had somehow gotten his hands on a phone and was trying to call his family.
Same, the audio before the phone call sounds like what Peter heard in the walls before being transported forward 2 months

“If the wind is right you can sail away” is actually a song lyric from a 1979 Christopher Cross song called “Sailing”. It details how he just needs a good wind to allow him to sail away to “paradise” and be free from the pain that his life entails. Could be an analogy for the pain Peter felt being held in A-sync and how he dreamed of just being able to “sail away” from his captivity.
Oh and also, Kane remixed this song about a month ago on his second channel.
This and the use of Al Stewart's "Time Passages" could just be incidental, establishing eras when things occur, but these seem too pointed (and just obscure enough) to me to be window dressing.

I was about to say that! also the reference in earlier up loads to Moss Landing, this 10000000000000% takes place along the Monterey Bay. Like the House by the sea, Moss Landing, now the "Sailing" Reference.
P.S. The two days after this past Christmas my family visited Monterey and I no joke started playing this song in the car for my brother and his girlfriend around Moss Landing. When I realized that, no joke I like couldn't breath for a second.
I was also thinking about the whole "going crazy" thing you could refer back to the book "the yellow wallpaper" they found, it might not just be a reference to the backrooms but also one to Peter being in captivity and him slowly going crazy.

Matt, the scene that plays at the end of damage control is the end of autopsy report. What’s funny is that if you go to the end of autopsy report, you can even hear the phone ringing in the background at the start.

The picture of someone running down a street gives me the idea that Trench didn't run down a hill and die but instead ran into a city/town in an attempt to warn others or leak information however they were killed, this also works with the title "Damage Control"

I mean they said they saw him make a run for the hills when he got out. I'm pretty sure he tried to run home or somewhere where he can contact his family, and async tracked him down and killed him.
That fits, maybe he actually got home to his office and got yeeted by the green light? That's a possibility but idk if it's likely.

That was a great ad break lol, best one ever for me is watching Lets Game it Out turn a hospital game into a misery factory and then an ad for the hospital I work at comes on in the middle.

There's another angle to be considered. If Peter ends up being a carrier for a disease, it would make sense for ASync to keep him under lock and key to prevent a pandemic from happening. If the bacteria is contagious, Tench's escape could result in a lot of people getting killed. Another consequence of discovering the Backrooms, apart from people noclipping.
Stop using logic and resson. Async are clearly cartoonishly evil and want to destroy the world just for the sake of destroying the world.

43:50 Interesting to note, the "starman" is in the same pose as the person with the tank on their back in the previous photos. Also, important to note that in "Reunion" the person holding the shotgun, before Peter Tench got a hold of it, also had a tank on his back.
The area also kind of reminds me of the neighborhood from pitfalls, so maybe it’s a area like that and they are exploring them with weapons now.

Considering MatPat incorporates storytelling and narrative cohesion into his theories its a surprise he didn't think that the end was showing Peter escaping and trying to call his family like most people seemed to have understood from those scenes

Everything is relative. Note: Blackwater, Purdue Pharma and Monsanto were/are all real “not evil” USA companies!
Async technically isn't evil, but they will do everything a company does to uphold their image. They have a project going that is HIGHLY important to them, and they will probably do almost anything to keep that alive, no matter how good or evil it seems.
We don't perceive companies as "evil", just as doing things to stay running. It's the same thing.

They do intentionally try to follow the law but due to the circumstances of finding a infinite maze in an altern dimension, they have to make sure that nobody will leak the findings or anything about spooky monsters. This is so crazy. I remember he found a book address of “the yellow wallpaper”, that of which is in my sociology book that I’m reading right now for a midterm, talking about how a woman lacks power in the face of authority of her husband who decides what is best for her and is the voice for her. Which now watching this, could be referenced to overall authoritative individuals in ASYNC, trying to hide all of this and control the situation. But it’s what I thought of the top of my head while reading this.
The "extract everything" line made me think of extracting the truth, as in, "hey we tortured him and gave him truth serum, and he gave us nothing new"

I agree, I think those last few frames of the man in the street is actually Peter Tench. Also the fact that they emphasize so heavily, "Peter Tench is dead, and there is nothing else to be extracted," then they show a syringe, almost seeming to say, there IS more to be extracted.

There's no way someone working at a super secretive government funded facility would go that crazy that quickly. The vetting process that goes into projects like this is very intense for this very reason.

I think the phrase “if the wind is right, you can sail away” might be referring to travel in the complex. If you find the right areas in the complex you can time jump, be exposed to the green portals, or escape.
It’s a lyric from a song called Sailing by Christopher Cross which is about wanting to be free from pain and sailing away to paradise. This could what Tench was feeling when he was being held captive in the Backrooms.
The only people who have escaped the backrooms are the found footage 2 girl and technically Peter tench

Alright. So. Just going on a whim, but, Peter Tench is still alive, and they're covering up the cover up to keep anyone inside the company from getting the idea of whistle blowing. The shots at the end were of Peter escaping and the phone call is from Peter to his wife, who wouldn't be picking up the phone from grief. This is only 4 months roughly after he's pronounced "dead" so it'd make sense for her to be still grieving.

First, yeah: Tench got fecking ganked by Async, 1000%. Second, I like how the announcement was framed: Peter is-and has been-deceased. That is done, and there is nothing more to be extracted. Like, super ominous yet like chill? Idk man, I just really like how it was phrased.

It’s definitely ominous beyond belief!! It’s also heavily weaves into the whole “Async maliciousness” vibe, as it intentionally disregards the significance of the circumstances, overall. It’s blatantly encouraging the audience hearing it to forget about the events that transpired… and to not ask further questions or have further thoughts on it. Async’s reputation is critical to the continuation of the project. Thus, they’re actively trying to silence anyone that could possibly express a non-positive perspective on the project. This would include Peter, who witnessed and experienced the horrors of the Backrooms firsthand, as well as anyone else who would’ve been aware of the events regarding him. They’re trying to build a specific narrative regarding what happened, all as an emotionally manipulative guise in the name of “trust” and “honesty.” They want people to trust them & the project, so that they can continue their work & they’re willing to go intense lengths to achieve that. This is an incredibly fascinating series!! The fact that Kane Pixels is doing this by themselves too is just like- baffling. So insanely impressive & VERY well thought-out.

You can hear the same phone ringing sound at the end of Autopsy Report, specifically at 1:56 The music that plays at 2:30 in autopsy report (When we can see the backrooms on screen) is also the same music that is playing at 13:34 in Damage Control. Probably referencing weird time displacement in multiple areas but its different time displacement for both because in Damage Control we can hear music playing all the way through, but in Autopsy Report we have videos cut up making words and sounds

To me, the audio at the end sounds like the noises Peter heard when he went into that smaller hallway. Haven't compared them yet, but maybe the phone ringing (a device being used) caused the audio to "play" in the backrooms. Could just be me though.

assuming a lot of other people have already pointed it out but the phone call at the end sounds like it ties in with the end of Autopsy Report. when the scene changes to the screen you can hear the phone ringing as the music plays

I think the ending shots and especially phone ringing repeatedly are supposed to communicate that Tench escaped and was not in fact killed. He got beyond the A-Sync security team, escaped into the city, where he got to a phone booth, and tried to call his wife who wasn't available to pick up. Maybe she was sleeping, maybe grieving, at work, picking up kids etc. Of course he would keep trying to call after she didn't pick up the first time! He's desperate for his family to know that he's alive. In any case, I think it is clear that the A-Sync narrative is not entirely true.
My theory is as follows: the girl protagonist from the most recent found footage is one of tench's friends/family who he was trying to call. The green flashes are caused by people exiting/entering the backrooms. Tench was a few seconds too late to get in contact with his wife or whoever, making the story more tragic.

@34:00 when you start talking about nautical themes associated with the Backrooms, I immediately thought of the movie "Dark City". I've always thought that the Backrooms are some kind of living entity which is projecting a portion of itself into our reality/dimension and that it takes on familiar, if distorted, environments in order to trap and feed itself (and it's internal bacteria, viruses, etc. / AKA "The Monsters").
Matpat not knowing about the Backrooms being called "the Complex" makes me want to recommend Wendigoon's Backrooms video to him and the interview Wendigoon did with Kane on his second channel where they cover that and more. He also has a FNAF timeline video and some other videos Matt would probably like, like Hypnogogic Archive and Mandela Catalogue.
Certain Matpat knows of wendigoon but also I want them to Not interact just so I can continue to chat to the smaller and so generally nicer, nerdier community he’s got there

This is the second (that I know of) implication of a '70s AM radio hit in this series. In the additional videos, Kane used a muzak version of Al Stewart's "Time Passages." In this one, "If the wind is right, you can sail away," is a line from Christopher Cross' song, "Sailing."

From a perspective of a man who went into the complex, got separated from his crew and then gets sent 2 months into the future. He can’t go immediately back to his family, the world has changed. I think there’s a good chance he could go back into the complex by his freewill. That’s all he knows, also he doesn’t know there’s monsters wandering around yet. So he could think it was safer than where he was held captive.
Another reason to go back: time travel. If Peter Trent wanted to go back to being legally alive again and knew he time traveled to future, maybe he wanted to try time traveling back to his "correct time" using the backrooms.
That light in the phone scene was kind of like pulsating in a pattern i feel. Could it be Morse Code?

To me, the music and sounds playing on the TV in the background while the phone is ringing sounds like the same music and noises that Peter heard in that hallway just before his time shift. I almost wonder if Peter made it to a phone booth and tried to call his wife before he got caught and/or killed.
That audio being displaced into the backrooms would suggest it went backwards in time by 4 months or so. Oh boy is that a timeloopy situation in that case.

If it’s a literal statement over that long a period then Peter suffered in a “white torture” container. If it is a figurative statement he was in a sound proof dark solitary cell. Oh yeah those are such *trustworthy* accommodations.

I'm so surprised that matpat or gtlive in general doesn't have a premium account or that creators aren't given that and he still has to deal with watching ads on videos he watches.
Even premium has ads sometimes, from what I understand. But I'm sure matpat knows what adblock is, he just doesn't use it on his streams and gtnotlive's because he's supporting the creators that he's watching.
Given you can hear ash go "Matt, PLEASE log in", then later we hear him say "Next time we're definitely gonna log in", I'm gonna say he has one.

@@LoreCatan ive been using premium since its launch. i dont get any ads on mobile/smart TV. i dont usually use web but i havent encountered ads on there either!
@@LoreCatan Premium doesn’t have ad breaks. Obviously if the creator has them integrated into the video itself Premium can’t do anything about it. And there’s an ongoing bug involving Chromecast. But otherwise, no ads.
They do have a premium account, it’s just not logged in. Ash makes multiples references to that during this very video.
