- TOP 5 TEMPLE RUNS - • The Temple Run Hall of...
Of all the Nickelodeon game shows, Legends of the Hidden Temple is perhaps the most fondly remembered. While shows like Global GUTS, Finders Keepers, and Double Dare are great in their own right, Legends stands alone as the peak of Nick gameshows. One reason for that is the fan's love for the six teams that compete in each episode: the Red Jaguars, the Blue Barracudas, the Green Monkeys, the Orange Iguanas, the Purple Parrots, and the Silver Snakes. But which team was actually the best? This video answers exactly that. Using stats from all 120 full episodes of show as well as all four of the show's stages (the moat, the steps of knowledge, the temple games, and the temple run), this video lays out the definitive Hidden Temple team rankings.
This video essay ranks each of the teams from best to worst and also tells the stories of some of the show's most interesting moments, including play by play breakdowns for a few temple runs ("The Mask of Shaka Zulu" and "Galileo's Cannonball". The Nick GaS favorite has recently had a reboot announced and so what better time to celebrate this gem of a game show from the 90s.

Yeah I saw the Bobby episode recently and I was shocked that the door from the swamp to the tomb of the ancient king was unlocked, I was certain it would be locked. Someone backstage clearly screwed up.
You are my spirit animal.
I can't fault Bobby for exploiting the mistakes of the temple's designers. He earned his fastest time, and with any luck, he did in fact become a lawyer in order to defend his rightful win
That’s hearsay (Bobby told me to tell you)
It's not HIS fault the stage crew messed up.
I was surprised that with only 3 complete temple runs, I wasn’t featured. My episode was also one where they had to stop taping when I lost my pendant in the ball pit. But it’s ok. I’m an exception, I already know that. But I’m not trying to do the new make of the show.. just saying. I don’t really keep track of this stuff. Oh.. milk bucket of freydis. And if anyone knows Chris, tell him I said what’s uppppp???
I'm thinking about making a follow up to this video that features temple runs. I was wondering if you'd be willing to share any behind the scenes stuff or insights/commentary on how your run went?
So the final cut didn't have the pendant falling. I saw the run and I have to say, impressive and where did the bucket break after getting it?
@@PeeledEyes maybe consider doing like the statistics of the placement of the artifact and wins ratio. If I recall correctly more wins happened when the treasure was in the shrine of the silver monkey or at the end of the temple. I don't think anyone ever won when it was at the bottom 3rd room and very few won in the middle or very top room. I'm not saying do each room statistic, but general area. Like middle near the end and end. I was waiting for the day they put the artifact in the first room at the bottom or the pit of despair room with the bridge involved, but it never happened.
My brother Chris was your teammate! We were actually looking for this footage a few months ago. Will share it with him and tell him you said hi! I’ll also remind him to thank you! Lol!
"If you're an Orange Iguanas fan, you probably know all these stats already."
Yep. That's me, alright.
They normally made most of the purple parrot teams some of the younger/less physically able to power thru the temple games (making them the underdogs and we all love to root for the underdog)
Ha! That’s probably true bc I was tiny and not super athletic but we had to audition which involved physical and mental tests… soo they knew some of my capabilities. Like I couldn’t complete a single pull up.. lol but I won!!
@@bubs-n-ma8759 You won the right to do a temple run?
Silver Snakes all the way!!! 🐍
Man I loved this show. Nick GAS sure does bring back the nostalgia. It was basically the only channel I had on at my Grandparents. And you're absolutely right...you only watch Nick GAS for one reason. TO CATCH LEGENDS.
Silver Snakes For Life
Silver Snakes all day baby!!!
Silver Snakes gang!
Silver Snakes gang!!
2 fun facts regarding the red jaguars
1. Bobby was actually on the Trojan horseshoe but unfortunately lost at the moat but was invited back
2. Even if you remove the Mask of Shaka Zulu, the red jaguars still have the fastest run with 1:11 left on the ivory hunting horn of Roland.
As a Green Monkey fan, I KNEW we'd be #1!
Season 3 is my favorite because we had the most Temple Runs in that season, only trailing the Orange Iguanas by 1 over all.
I haven’t watched the whole video yet but I had to leave my tv and find you on my phone, to thank you for your accuracy and thorough description of the game. My name is tarrah, I was on the milk bucket of freydis. But thank you!!
Barracudas fan here 😂 although in my defense, I think I mainly liked the team because I liked the color blue and had never heard the word "barracuda" before. (I watched during the show's original Nick run in the 90s, so I was about 6 or 7.) Your Hidden Temple vids have this 90s kid feeling SO nostalgic!
this narration is hilarious, the graphics, the whole concept lmaooo great video thank you fr
Wow, thank you so much! That’s like the nicest comment I’ve ever gotten, I really appreciate it!
As a Blue Barracuda fan, all I can say is.... that's all accurate XD
Never seen such a detailed video for a forgotten gem of a show. Well done man.
I always wanted a playground type obstacle course like the Temple Run; that shit looked fun af.
Silver Snakes evil empire? I think you got us silver snake fans all wrong.
It’s just how the Snakes came across to me when I was a kid haha! Probably because they were always winning...
@@PeeledEyes look at the show Endurance.
It’s a big rumor the “ grey “ team was always eliminated 1st
Due to how good the silver snakes were in the legends of the hidden temple
The perception of Silver as the Legends superpower comes from the first season, which they absolutely dominated. They had five Temple Run victories that season alone. In later seasons their success was far more modest, but the first impression really stuck.
@@Denverbroncos87 Yep. In 4 if the 5 seasons gray team was represented in that show, they were the first to hbe eliminated. And in the one season they weren't, they won the whole damn thing.
@@Denverbroncos87 I watched Endurance some, but a half hour just had one competition. Legends of the Hidden Temple had so much more action in a half hour.
27:41 I wanted nothing more than to go to Space Camp in the 90's. But with a mother working 80 hours a week. And a father who would drink it all away just to beat me on a daily basis, causing God only knows how many broken bones before I was even 10. I had to go to Taekwondo classes. And we could only afford it because one of my mother's cosmetic clients was the manager at the Taekwondo dojo.
I'm almost 40, and still want to go to Space Camp, lol
9:45, Yeah that pretty much sums up my life as a Purple Parrots fan.
Wow! This show brings back memories as a kid. I swear there are nothing like the 90s.
Awesome video! Silver Snakes
I own two Temple teams shirts. The Green Monkeys for their domination and the Purple Parrots for being the loveable underdogs. They were totally hopeless but I kept cheering for them anyway and I finally saw them a a kid win one of their only Temple Runs.
As a green monkeys fan I just knew we would be on top🍾🍾🍾
True. The Silver Snakes taking the runner up position at number two; in addition to both the Silver Snakes and Green Monkeys tie for temple run victories of 8 wins each.
As We should be! Green Monkeys for life
Gang gang ganggggg!! 🍀🍀🍀
Same here Green Monkeys
Green monkeys 🐒 for life baby
the red jaguars were definitely my favorite. i still want that shirt. i also loved the video and was laughing throughout, you did a great job
Replica shirts are definitely out there, I’ve got a green monkeys shirt laying around somewhere! Thanks for the support, I really appreciate it!
@@PeeledEyes What site?
I like the red jaguars as well
I saw some on Amazon. And they are just like how they look on the show.
I just finished this video and I have the say you did such a wonderful job. It's entertaining and informative and I love your sense of humor. 👏🏾
Thank you, I’m so glad you liked it so much and I really appreciate you taking the time to comment!!
7:13 “If I had wings, I would have made it.” Great Survivor reference.😂😂😂
Yes I was a purple parrots fan.
Even as a kid I knew there are chances of winning the whole thing was remote. I even have a purple parrot's t-shirt which I wore to a beer Olympics competition. Yes I'm that dorky.
One you missed to dock some points from orange iguanas: fastest end of game by temple guard encounter with the second runner. Entered temple with a half pendant and went up to crypt (first runner went to ledges). Temple guard was waiting, boom, game over two steps into the temple lol. (Walking Stick of Harriet Tubman)
Keep up the great work bro!
I was born in 1991 and i remember watching this show on Nick.. i also remember.. Doug, My Cousin Skeeter, Rugrats, Rocko's Modern Life.. Nickelodeon was killing the game the game until like around 2005, the last huge shows were probably Jimmy Nuetron, Fairly Odd parents, SpongeBob and Danny Phantom..
But i hate to say it.. nothing beats mid to late 90's Cartoon Cartoon Friday.. followed off by The midnight Run
This video alone deserves a million views for its detailed report. Kudos mate !!
This man spittin' facts.
This is a ringing endorsement. It’s not every day you get a comment from a pseudo-legendary
Man I miss Nick GaS
Dude the beginning of this video specifically sums up my feelings towards these game shows. Born at the wrong time for sure 👊
i've always loved that game show it was my most watched show ever, but man, those silver snakes and green monkeys, there crazy for winning so many times its nuts, i always went for purple parrots and the red jags just because they were my favorite teams, so i really enjoyed watching it while it used to be on.
This ain't fair. How do you not have close to 2K subs yet?! Your videos are amazing and have the potential to be even better!! Ya know what I'll join the ride.
Big time thanks for this comment. 2k would be a dream! New video coming real soon
As someone who grew up as the exact target demographic of these classic shows, I have to tell you, it really was as great as it sounds. At least these days we have people uploading whole blocks of programming from the 90's so you young ones (lol) can try to re-create the magic. Something about the Universal Studios Orlando days of Nickelodeon was special, and I'm glad to see it's not just nostalgia.
also, I forgot about the groaning sounds Olmec makes as the gate is lowered :) Thanks for that
I was 10 years when I saw this show (2006) but it's was problem, i'm from Mexico and I didn't understand a single word of what they were saying because my English at the time was almost nil, but the concept of the show was preety cool and was one of My childhood dreams be a participant on the show, Nice vídeo man, the investigation is preety solid ♥️
Can’t wait to see this channel blow up. Great content!!!!
Really appreciate that!! New video coming very soon!
17:26 to 17:36, I was a big Blue Barracudas fan in season 1. I was still somewhat of one in season 2, but by season 3 I really wasn't because they didn't have any wins in the temple. They only came very close a couple of times to reach the artifacts in the final season.
Your videos are incredible! Keep it up! Can’t wait for more!
Excellent video. One other note about the Purple Parrots--they never once advanced to the Temple when facing the Orange Iguanas in the Temple Games. There were eight episodes when those two teams clashed in the Temple Games, and the Iguanas are a perfect 8-0 in those episodes. Ouch.
Also, in the Red Jaguars' defense, they ALSO have the record for second-fastest Temple Run, which didn't have a production error. That took place in the episode "The Ivory Hunting Horn of Roland" during Season 3, and was accomplished with 1:11 left.
Exactly! The stats are what they are, but I always felt Orange was more overrated than Red. The Orange Iguanas tended to fall apart strategically in the Temple. Every team gets a weird layout every once in a while (in fact, I think another argument in the Red Jaguars favor is that they had one of only two Temple Runs where the guards were in three consecutive rooms, and they only had 1.5 pendants), but Orange seemed to really mess up the easy ones. I remember an episode in Season 3 (Lost Whale Bone of Pytheas, I believe) where the kid basically walked through the whole thing. No energy, no enthusiasm, and from what I remember, poor layout awareness.
@@EricAKATheBelgianGuy you're absolutely right about Orange. They actually had more Temple Runs than any other team (25) but only four victories. That's a success rate of 16 percent, easily the worst of any team. The Purple Parrots may have had fewer victories at three, but they also had fewer Temple Runs than anyone else at just eleven. 3 wins to 11 runs is a success rate of 27%, which is about average.
@@mam162 The show wanted only 20 percent successes because they did not want to spend too much money on prizes, and got 32/120 = 26 2/3 percent. Each show had 12 kids, and plenty of other shows had three or four kids.
Honestly I was surprised to see that the red Jaguars were in 5th place. All my memories of the show and opinions and discussions of it always painted the Jaguars as powerhouses, just goes to show doesn’t it
Yo I just came back to watch this video again because I was telling someone today about this show and how awesome this video is! It’s a crime that you’re not to 1000 subs yet, hope you get that monetization soon. Keep up the great work! Just hit the bell and in looking forward to your next upload!
This is absolutely outstanding content. Not surprised to see the Green Monkeys reaching the pinnacle of 90s children success.
Great video!
It was my DREAM to be on the show!
My fav team was the sliver snakes.
Phenomenal work!!! Mind blowing . Thank you so much for this.. 🥰
this is a SOLID review! got me hyyyyyped for the reboot!
Thanks, I really appreciate it! Fingers crossed for a good reboot
Thanks for this piece of a vídeo... For all of us true fans of Legends. This is awesome
Lol I KNEW purple would be the worst! 😂
Red is my favorite color so I was ALWAYS Team Red. I'm surprised they were second from last. So basically Red was all brawn and not enough brain.
That’s why they put me on the purple parrots… although I don’t remember answering any questions in the steps of knowledge, they tested us physically and mentally in the audition process. It was great tho. Milk bucket of freydis..
This is great! I remember watching this show and I too kept statistics of the show's run.
INCREDIBLE video topic i feel like ive been searching for for years. immediate sub awesome stuff. Nick Gas was everything for me as kid an i feel like thats a very short window to have lived in. Shoutout to the Purple Parrots.
This is amazing, Thank you.
Silver Snakes was my team, but I had some love for the Monkeys and Parrots too
Thanks for this!
Great review mate.
I was a fan of Red Jaguars! Solid review, loves it 👍
dude this video is hilarious. i watched this whole thing. i remember as a kid i wanted to just wreck that temple and win that shit. even at 27 ide run that shit after watching this.
Snakes were totally my favorite team. But that's mostly cause I like snakes lol
My 2nd favorite team were the Jags because my favorite color is red lol
Great video dude.
This is a dope look at LotHT! Great video, easy sub
The breakdown 🤣🤣🤣 holy shit. Excellent VOD, my brother ❤❤❤
Oh...Silver Snakes ftw
Great job 👏
PURPLE PARROTS GANG RISE UP
i just think the logos cute lol
Right here!!!! Thank you!
Was a kid when this show aired and found this video by accident. I’m very glad I did cause this video is genius 😂
What a great documentary 👏
Might be the best video on youtube
Keep doing what you're doing
This video was a delight
This video is amazing
Thanks for this dude Thanks for the stats
I really enjoyed this I grew up with this show and I was young thank you
BOBBY 🗣
He was the real “legend” in hindsight
maybe bobby knows where Cam is
I wonder if Bobby's stacking his paper today?
Man I've always claimed the Red Jaguars since I was a kid. Feels appropriate now knowing they're second to last best. I feel that.
This is a good video man nice narration you should have said for the Purple parrots they are living in spain without the s because they was doing bad in the show. I loved this show as a whole one of my favorite on nick even though I didnt see it when it come out I was born in 98 but they show repeats of nick on tv. If it's TRUE for the reboot cant wait to see it. I was a fan of the silver dragons or green monkeys one of the two
Was I the only one who exclaimed out in joy when they figured out their team was #1??
It's coming back for adults! Let's go!
I liked the silver snakes bc they gray looked cool with the gold snakes, I'm also pretty sure they were at least towards the top on untucked shirts (unless required by specific temple game). Everyone knows only nerds tuck in their shirts!
I was a fan of the blue team.
I'm a bit shocked you didn't mention that one episode on Annie Oakley, where the temple run was successful, and the girl who did it pretty darn fast.
Temple is coming back and I can't wait!
Brilliant!
i can't believe i watched this entire video, bravo lol
Great vid! Idk if this has been commented on yet, but I count 9 episodes where the Orange Iguanas are defeated in the temple games without a tiebreaker. In the vid you said 3, unless I'm misinterpreting that? The episodes are, in order:
John Henry's Lost Hammer
The Lost Logbooks of Magellan
The Snake Bracelet of Cleopatra
The Imperial Purple Robe of Empress Theodora
The Two-Cornered Hat of Napoleon
The Missing Weather Maps of Charles Lindbergh
The Discarded Seal of Ivan the Terrible
The Dried Ear of Corn of Sojourner Truth
The Jewel-Encrusted Egg of Catherine the Great
Idk, that just jumped out at me when I heard it. Also Purple Parrots for life!!!!
As a fan of the Green Monkeys, I approve of the placement.😁
Dude this is top quality shit. 300 subscribers is freaking criminal.
Really appreciate you saying this! I try to put as much thought and effort into my videos as I can so I appreciate the recognition
@@PeeledEyes Absolutely. You'll get there with content like this. My only advice would be to perhaps try to increase video output to 1-2 videos per month consistently until you gain a following. Quality may take a slight hit, but video volume helps with the algorithm and it helps garner a fanbase because you're more recognizable if they see you in recommendeds more often. Once you hit a certain following, you could slow back down for quality's sake. Just know, I enjoyed this video every bit as much as I enjoy a SummoningSalt or EmpLemon video, which seems sorta like the direction you want to take your channel i.e. quirky documentaries on pop culture.
Blue Barracuda Gang, where you at?
Tumbs up for the Korn intro.
Thumbs up for Pittsburgh sports!!
Two things I will say.
1) Embarrassed that I was a Red Jaguars fan
2) Hated the Silver Snakes
# of times each team went to the Temple:
1. Orange Iguanas: 25
2. Green Monkeys: 24
3. Silver Snakes: 21
4. Red Jaguars: 20
5. Blue Barracudas: 19
6. Purple Parrots: 11
Can you do a video on when in the temple run, a temple guard missed his cue and went in after they left the room?
Can you Please make a top 10 temple runs. Ir the must iconic run of every team
Thinking about making something like this
I've been a fan of the Blue Barracudas since day 1. I got in trouble once for slapping my cousin who had the gal to say, and I quote, "The Blue Barracudas suck!" I agree with you about the Silver Snakes being the evil empire.
You took this super serious
Hey you are still talk about Hi 5 and how much songs in Hi 5
This is a fucking great video. Thank you
The analysis and narration on this video are spot on. I'd be fascinated to see your data in detail. Any possibility you could publish it somewhere? Surely it would be the lead story in a peer reviewed scientific journal about Nickelodeon game shows! 🧮📜👨🎓✍️
The Green Monkeys were my favorite team
I'm definitely and orange iguana and green monkey's fan.
Great video! What did you think of the reboot?
Haven’t seen it yet, is it worth checking out??
@@PeeledEyes It was fun, at least I thought so. Got the nostalgia factor going pretty strong, even though the players are adults. All the puzzles and games are scaled up, but it has a nice atmosphere. Some of the puzzles in the temple run were downright gnarly and scary. The story/legend driving the first episode was really cool and interesting, and the puzzles and games tied into the story pretty well. Recommend reading the Wikipedia article on "Maya Hero Twins".
For some reason it seems like they weren't able to license the music from the old show, or maybe they just wanted something original. My ears didn't pick up even a hint towards the old musical themes. Though they did bring back some of the sound effects, for example the steps of knowledge.
Also thought Kirk Fogg was coming back as the host, but they got someone else. But she is a great host so far. Olmec's original VA is back, and I could swear that the announcer who tells you the prizes you get to take home is the same VA.
You can see it here, but will probably be taken down eventually lol
czcams.com/video/JILZ0MIkFZs/video.html
Also you're gonna SHIT when you see which team won
Great breakdown of everything but you overlooked one very important aspect of someone choosing their favorite team… my favorite team was the silver snakes…no I’m not evil I can’t stand the Yankees or the patriots either 😂 silver is just my favorite color. I’m sure I’m not alone in picking a team based on my favorite color.
I was kind of messing around with the justifications for why someone would pick each team haha, I think most people just picked based on favorite color or animal
LOL green monkeys were always my fav, good to know. Snakes were actually my second favorite hahaha. third was purple parrots
Have you seen the reboot? The power rankings of the teams are almost in reverse.
I'd put Red Jaguars fourth and Orange Iguanas fifth, if only because the Jaguars had a higher winning percentage (.200 to .160). Also, since the Iguanas have the most appearances in the Temple, they should have done a lot better than that. Then again, red is my favorite color, and so I am biased. Go Red Jaguars!
Panthers could have the goods this year
BIG FACTS. Would love to see them take out Tampa and go on a run
@@PeeledEyes oof...
@@PeeledEyes True. Both Tampa Bay and Carolina will face each other after Christmas this year
