Because the Red Jaguars and Orange Iguanas faced off so many times in the Temple Games, and the Orange Iguanas always did so well no matter who the opponent was, I was left frustrated many times (haha). Both teams won the Temple four times, but Red had a slightly higher completion percentage (4-for-20, or .200, compared to 4-for-25, .160 for Orange).

    Regarding the Silver Monkey, I understand people's bewilderment that a 3-piece statue ruins chances for success, but I do not believe it is as black and white as fans think it is. I remember reading an article where Kirk was asked about it and he made good points.
    Let's put ourselves in the contestant's shoes: They have THREE minutes and can't see the time. Guards can pop out at any given time, and this adds heavy suspense. On top of that, the contestants are likely quite anxious. Also, they have cameras and whole world watching. Anyone who fears public speaking knows the feeling. Also, the location of the room plays a part. The room is near the back of the temple. By that point, contestants are starting to tire from all of the physical and mental activity.
    By themselves, these individual components seem negligible, but put together, they can create a lot of mental stress which can cloud judgment and figuratively turn a three piece puzzle into a Rubik's cube. It doesn't always cripple a team, but we must remember some are better at managing stress than others.

    I think a Temple Run you should’ve had on here was The Heart-Shaped Pillow of Annie Taylor Run. It was the first time someone successfully retrieved the Artifact from the center of the temple and it was a solo run with Blue Barracuda Missy kicking ass in the temple.

    I would have added the Applewood Amulet, mostly because of Olivia-Emma. Kids had to run, climb, and pass a written test to be chosen.
    Sometimes the moat took so long that the show had to edit to not show all of it.
    Multiple episodes were filmed in a day with all the moats, then all the steps of knowledge, then all the temple games, then all the temple runs. Kids who reached the temple were there all day with long breaks between rounds. Teams were read the legend backstage, and on camera it was their second time hearing it.
    Here are some statistics:
    The show made it hard and wanted 24 successes, which would have been 20 percent. They got 32 successes, which was 26.67 percent.
    Teams with 1 pendant were guaranteed to be taken out of the temple if the layout required meeting all three temple guards, but the 15 teams with 1 pendant had 6 successes, which was a higher than average rate. Teams with 1 pendant got taken out 13.33 percent of the time, and teams with 1.5 pendants got taken out 23.08 percent of the time.
    24 shows (20 percent) needed tiebreakers. 15 were tied at 1 pendant, and 9 were tied at 1.5 pendants, meaning that the third temple game was tied. There were episodes with two tied temple games, but never with three. The show was made so at least one temple game would not be tied.
    The most common pendant score was 1.5 to 0.5, which happened 33 times.
    The winning team was first in the Moat and Steps of Knowledge 20 times, first in one of them 56 times, and first in neither of them 44 times.
    There was one episode that ended by being taken out of the temple in the room above the ledges. It was rare because normally the two kids started the same way. The show would have expected that if that temple guard was encountered, it would have been by the first person.

    • @Aunini
      @Aunini Před rokem +1

      The last point: the episode was 'The Walking Stick of Harriet Tubman' - while there were three other occasions the starting paths were different, this by far had the worst outcome.
      The contestant was eliminated in The Crypt, the only time this occurred in a starting room; as a result, she spent just *nine seconds* within the temple, the lowest non-zero amount in the entire show's run.

    How did you leave the Mussel Shell Armor of Apanuugpak off this list? Gator was probably the best runner in the shows history, made it from the temple gates to the dark forest in 15 seconds and put the monkey together with no problems, despite meeting a temple guard in there. Also that run was the 3rd of 3 runs where a team encounters all 3 guards and wins

    A few cool facts:
    During Joel's run, he actually evaded a temple guard in the Dark Forest, the only time that's ever happened.
    His younger sister Jamie not only competed as well (shot the same day as Joel's episode), she'd also win that episode (The Very Tall Turban Of Ahmed Baba).

    As a 34-year-old man, to this day, I argue that silver monkey shit looks complicated--yes, there is a clear head and bottom, but the middle looks like a random molten metal formation, and on top of that, you're not even old enough drive, and now you gotta worry about being taken away by tribal cannibals... filmed in front of a live studio audience.
    Cut em some slack...

  • @anonymouscontributor1520

    What I like the most about Joel’s run is if you look closely where he busts through the rock wall in the Dark Forest, the tree that’s standing next to the wall tried to grab Joel and take his pendant of life, but he was too fast for the tree to grab him so he just narrowly avoided the temple guard.

    • @jdb2002
      @jdb2002 Před rokem

      I think it's more "you can only get grabbed if you go for the key". Since he busted through the wall, the tree guard wasn't allowed to grab him

    • @anonymouscontributor1520
      @anonymouscontributor1520 Před rokem

      Not necessarily. Because in later episodes, if a contestant didn’t enter the Dark Forest by busting the rock wall, that first tree’s right arm would be in the way of the wall so they couldn’t get past the tree without getting caught by it.

    My favorite Temple Runs are the ones that are not only successful but were done single handed. My top two, however, would have to be The Milk Bucket of Freydis (Even though I knew they were going to win and heard that was suspenseful due to the fact that the kid made it at the very last second, I still found myself going, "Get out of there!" while seeing it for the very first time.) and The Heart Shaped Pillow of Annie Taylor (Missy, of course. She was so small but she didn't give up. The moment that won it for me was when she was in The Shrine of the Silver Monkey and she kept jumping up and down trying to get the base of it until she finally did. I was like, "Keep going! Don't give up! Don't quit!" That moment almost made me cry tears of joy.).

      Not really. The boy didn't notice that he could've gone down from the Shrine of the Silver Monkey skipping 2 rooms which didn't help. Also that girl wasn't the brightest either. It definitely was not a great layout but the closer to the entrance they place the artifact the less kids seem to be able to figure out the path I noticed. Hell some of the kids seem borderline special ed when you see they can't figure out the simple concept of when you can't go left anymore go down/up then continue left. I know they're 11-13 but they look like Gen Zs trying to figure out how to use a NES

      @@CerealKiller143 Getting the object made all the doors open, so the more rooms it took to get to the object, the harder it was. When the object was closer to the entrance, kids had to go to the back on the other floor, get it on the way out, and that made it take longer. I calculated many statistics about temple runs. Here is the success rate by column where 1 is innermost and 4 is outermost:
      1: 11/32 = 34.38 percent
      2: 10/30 = 33.33 percent
      3: 5/24 = 20.83 percent
      4: 6/34 = 17.65 percent
      The innermost column had almost double the success rate of the outermost column.

    I was hoping to see that you included The Secret Map of the Bandit Queen in this Top 5, but great video anyway.
    TBH, the Broken Wing of Icarus is the most debatable Temple Run loss in show history. Jason's slowness may have cost him and April the grand prize; however, some would agree with me when I say that the REAL mistake was backtracking from the King's Storeroom to the Observatory when all he had to do was climb down to the Jester's Court.
    Would you ever consider making a Top 5 of the Worst Temple Runs? If yes, I would strongly suggest and recommend that you include the Broken Trident of Poseidon.

      Golden Cricket Cage of Khan has to be up there. If it's not the worst ever, I don't know what is.
      As far as the "best" loss, i.e. without retrieving the artifact, my vote goes to Discarded Seal of Ivan the Terrible. Travis and Elisa were fast, smart, had great teamwork, dominated the Temple Games with two pendants, and stood a good shot at winning. The producers probably anticipated this, and so gave them arguably the hardest layout in the show's history. The seal was in the King's Storeroom, which had been moved to the top of the temple in Season 3, so needless to say, only the bottom door of The Pit was going to open. Also, I believe that the Shrine door didn't open from the bottom, either. Amazingly, they were only one room away when time ran out. Elisa took over after Travis got taken out, and entered the Room of the Ancient Warriors with approximately 15 seconds to go. Since they had two pendants, there was no risk of triple seizure. Sure enough, the third guard is in the first suit of armor she tries, and since the suit was designed to spin around, the guard took a little longer than usual, and so it cost her about ten seconds. She only had about five seconds to try the second suit, which of course, didn't open the door either. I get that you don't want to make it too easy, but that one always was one of the more heartbreaking losses. Maybe they were just a little too good leading up to it.

      "The guarantee that you know they're normal, and act normal in front of a camera."
