47 years later, this is still pound for pound Aerosmith's best single ever...still relevant, still kicks ass. The song never gets old.
Why doesn't Joe Perry get more notice as a top notch guitarist?
I like Walk This Way.
Best underrated song by Aerosmith is "Uncle Salty". That song rocks.
Best song to get drunk and a lil high too
â@@drgwhatsthetruth3783or Brad Whitford
One of my low key favourite parts of this channel is how Brad introduces the song and they "get right into it". No yappy yap, he just states the facts, hits the play and we're on our way.
Yea, I love those guys who spend like 10 minutes yappy yappin and then say, without further ado, let's get into it. Dude, you already committed too much 'further ado,' đ€Ł
Unfortunately he saves the yappy yap for the middle of the song. đ€š
@@zappa1952 it's a reaction channel dude
Tom introduces the song..
â@@zappa1952they have to do that in order to avoid a copyright strike
"The rabbit done died" means she's pregnant. It's the old pregnancy test. 'Sweet Emotion' is the chorus. Aerosmith is the American Rolling Stones.
Can't blame him cause she was already pregnant.
They are confused because it starts with the chorus, easy mistake.
(I didn't know that about the rabbit until this very moment.)
@@harlequindove2374 đ
Well they don't have to sacrifice bunnys anymore to find out if someone is pregnant. How do they even come up with stuff like that?! â€â
How dare you insult Aerosmith like that! Comparing them to a glorified garage band.
that bass line is is nothing short of mesmerizing, Tom Hamilton is a beast...
The entire album âToys in the Atticâ is phenomenal. One of the most important albums in rock history. Itâs crazy to think it came out in 1975, because it influenced so much later rock that it sounds like itâs from later.
totally sounds like a late 80s, early 90s song, you're right, it is nuts that some forget this one came out while Floyd released Wish You Were Here heh.
Probably their 3rd best album. #1 was their first self titled album. #2 Get Your Wings. IMO.
@@Crownd1_ 1. Rocks 2. Get Your Wings 3. Toys 4. debut
Best album title was "Right in the Nuts"... although I don't even recognize any of the song titles... except the cover of the Shangri-Las song...
In addition to the first 4 Aerosmith albums - Double Live Bootleg.
Always love the line âcanât catch me cause the rabbit done died⊠yes it didâ. Goes over most headsâŠ
70's Aerosmith is a million miles away from the wussed-out band they morphed into in the 90's. Dirty, funky, ballsy, hard-as- nails Aerosmith was a great American rock band.
The best American rock band ever.
Whoa whoa whoa. Nine Lives was fire. I would say they fell off in the 2000s with Just Push Play. And don't pretend they didn't have ballads before the 90s. Angel? What it Takes?
@@dementedavenger2784 Featuring such toe curlers as Pink and Falling in Love is Hard on the Knees, Nine Lives is an atrocious record. As for ballads, What it Takes isn't bad but their best is Home Tonight. As soon as Aerosmith started relying on outside song writers to cobble together an album (from Get a Grip onwards) they were a spent force creatively. Still, they had a fine run.
@Ian Hewitson and yet you only mention radio songs/singles.. The Farm? Nine Lives? Somethings Gotta Give? The latter being one of the heaviest songs they've ever written. Nines Lives is an amazing record if you actually dig into it.
@@dementedavenger2784 I of course should have added "in my opinion" to my little rant and since Aerosmith continue to have enjoy a huge audience and sold out shows, there's plenty of people who think I'm taking nonsense!
YOU HAVE to love Lex. It doesn't matter what song, genre or mood the song gives off, she feels the music and shows it. A heart of gold! đđđ€đ
I know, I miss that !!
This girl rocks. Itâs in her blood. Sheâd be a great rock concert dateâŠ
Fo sho
Lol..well put..
lol is that a title? Rock concert date
This is pre pop rock Aerosmith, the true Aerosmith.
I love seeing Lex grooving out. It makes me re-evaluate and appreciate the songs all over again.
I love how Lex just vibes out and B is so analytical, both going hard thinking and discecting it but Lexy just jamming.. good times
You called it, Brad
That most definitely was a talk box
U guys should watch the 90âs movie âDazed and Confused â. It really shows the feeling of 70âs and music. In fact this song opens the movie. I always feel like Iâm back in HS when I watch it. Thank you peace âïž
Absolutely ......a classic movie portraying one of the best decades in music and time ever.
@@FreeMTrider AMEN!
Good movie but my junior high and high school days ways the 80 s
That was a great movie, too. The soundtrack had to get! I was the freshman in that film....so I remember those days.
70s Rock is theeeeeee best rock NIGHT NIGHT
I really like how he "gets right to it" also. He just wants to hear the song.
This song basically is covering life as a rock star, the backstage circus and the endless groupie lifestyle and the story behind it. That's it in a nutshell. You guys have a great Christmas and hope to see ya covering more Van Halen
Say it again for the people in the backđđđ
@MIKE JONES go away with your shit that has no place in this discussion...
Also, allegedly deals with the band member's negative views of the guitarist Steve Perry's first wife: "you talk about things that nobody cares", "Wearing out things that nobody wears", "Some sweat hog mama with a face like a gent", "she's a real good liar", "You stand in the front just a shakin' your ass", etc.
@MIKE JONES what are you talking about, do you have 1 coherent thought in your mind???
@@winstonsmith8441 Those negative views came from the fact that he brought her on tour with him, and she started to think she was actually a member of the band and started trying to make their decisions for them. The whole thing was parodied in the movie "This Is Spinal Tap".
By the way.....his name is JOE Perry. Steve Perry (no relation) was the lead singer in Journey.
If you haven't reacted to it yet, check out "Walk This Way" - Aerosmith's collab with Run DMC (do it with the video, for sure)... it shows how their style seamlessly mixes with early 80's rap.
Fortunately they've only done the original, not the remix/collab
Please do the collab with Run DMC. Brand may finally loosen up!
I do enjoy that version and I always thought, that was the song that kicked Aeosmith in the ass and got them to ditch the drugs and start making real kick ass music. They really did some amazing music after Run CMC collab.
@@Midnightmidway Nothing was "pulled out of anyone's ass"... Brad literally talked about how Aerosmith sounded similar to rap on this song, so pretty much the first (&, at that point - to my knowledge - the only) rocker/rapper collaboration seems kind of relevant. Try to keep up, dum-dum.
Yes! This!
The chorus was simply, "Sweet Emotion"
"Steven Tyler wrote this about how frustrated he was with the band. They were doing a lot of drugs at the time and tensions often ran high, especially between Tyler and guitarist Joe Perry. The song is also a statement about doing your own thing without letting others bring you down." - Songfacts. Joe Perry was known as "Mr. Sweet Emotion" ;)
Itâs about Perryâs irritating wife at the time. đ€Šââïž
Joe's ex-wife that Steve hated - "Some Sweat Hog mamma with a face like a gent,...wearing out things that nobody wears"
They just start with the chorus, that's all.
@@frankcastellanos7840 Nope, it was Joe Perry, but the music was based on a bass line Tom Hamilton came up with, which was a "spare riff" left over from Toys in the Attic.
See lyrics are one thing but the musicians can play with the music and send a different message. The music says we are charging through like a locomotive and you are not stopping us as we have so much behind us pushing us forward, we couldn't stop if we wanted to. It's too late. Here we come!
This is the theme in Movie "Dazed & Confused"! A Must see, I can't even hear this song and not think of the scene of them pulling into the school parking lot beginning of movieđ€Łđ€
Great Aerosmith of the same vein... "Nobody's Fault" and "Rats In The Cellar" - Must do reactions!!!
1975! This is where we were at just 10 years after the Beatles released "Help!" "Jaws" was the hit movie in the theaters.
Oh the old Aerosmith stuff. The good good stuff.
Is this the version they made in the 90s?
@@jenewbee That would be A NOPE 70s Baby
OMG!! Lex invents a brand new term, ROP!!! I love it.
So far, my favorite thing about Lex is that whenever she says, "I really like this part", it's always during the best part of the song.
Lex, never allow yourself to stop smiling. You can't start having fun soon enough. Smile if it makes you happy, never wait for someone else's approval, as you do so often.
I love that Lexi feels the music no matter the lyrics. The guitars and drums speak to her It's awesome that she listens.
Lex is so adorable. so cute when she's rocking out
Takes me back to high school in the seventies cranking this on my 8-track player.
As is mentioned elsewhere here on the comments, if you want to see the direct line from Aerosmith to rap, listen to "Walk This Way" which was covered by Run DMC in the early days of rap. The other thing to know about Aerosmith is they were/are America's answer to Led Zeppelin, with the "heavy" sound driven by strong bass and rhythm guitar riffs and screaming guitar solos. Nice reactions...keep up the good work.
âïžâïž
That's the moment when rock music went in the toilet the last 30 years !
But you have got to do the official video--it's a must!
Sounds horrifying
@@tomyocum6003 Aerosmith is garbage garbage đ garbage
Not only could rock lead to rap, but Aerosmith's song Walk This Way was covered by Run DMC (with Aerosmith helping out) in the early days of rap. Good call. Also Brad's getting a good ear, identifying a talk box at the beginning. Great reaction. (just hate when the lyrics videos get the words wrong - like "rabbit gone died" should have been "rabbit done died" - don't they know they can google the official lyrics?)
As far matter of fact, if it wasn't for RUN-DMC, Aerosmith would've broken up for good
@@karlsmith2570 Didn't know that. Interesting.
rabbit done died, a mocking reference to the old school paternity tests which used live rabbits. Meaning "I beat a paternity test."
I just knew someone would get this before I could, good job!!
"Back in the Saddle" should be the next classic Aerosmith hit.
"It's Rop!" I love it! Yes it is! Life of a rock star, the chaos, etc. Trust me, Aerosmith lived it! Just like modern day rappers sing about their gangsta life, or Thug Life! â€ïžđ¶đžâïž
Brad and Lex great song another bad Aerosmith cut is train keep a rollin
Such an underappreciated song.
Yes đ€
Anything off of Toys in the Attic, Rocks and Draw the Line you will DIG! Rock on!
if you watch one of the coolest movies ever " Dazed and confused" , you'll never forget this tune , sometimes the lyrics don't matter
âSweet Emotionâ has such an awesome groove with one of the coolest riffs.

This song and Walk This Way definitely influenced the style and cadence of rap and hip-hop.
The chorus line is SSSSWWWWEEEETTTT EEEEEMMMMMMOOOOOOOTTTTTTIIIIIIIOOOOONNNNN! this song has groove!
This song is actually on the same album as the original Walk This Way. Awesome reaction guys.
Aerosmith in the mid-to-late 70s was just unparalleled. Get Your Wings, Toys In The Attic, Rocks. Stellar!! Great choice. Their version of Train Kept A Rollin' is a heel-stomper.
Toys!
What ya talking bout Mcb eezee lol They were fantastic in the early 70s as well
Joey Kramer's drum work on this particular song is amazing
Aerosmith's best song ever... genius stuff!
Back when Aerosmith was great. Their first 4 albums were classics, culminating in their masterpiece, "Rocks." I think you would love the funky rocker from that album called "Last Child"
Just a punk on the street
Had seen them on 2 tours when Rocks came out. That album and tour was a badass one,two punch. đ€đ.
Well of course 1973 till the END of 1979 The Ass kicking 70s
Aerosmith has been a cutting edge band since 1974. My favorite albums are "Get your wings" and "Toys in the attic" But I also love their newer stuff.
Back in the Saddle was pretty good too.
the album name escpes me right now though... maybe Rocks...?
Rocks is right up there too.
Toys in the Attic is fire
ROCKS was their best album - no bad songs on that album. TOYS being the next album on my list - New stuff not so great though. IMHO
That riff is timeless and so badass.
Steven Tyler was angry with Joe Perryâs girlfriend at the time, the band was living together in a house when Joe Perry decided he was moving out to be with his girlfriend, Steven Tyler was angry because he felt the band was writing better living together, and wrote part of this song is about her and his anger with Joe Perry.
The chorus was âSweet Emotionâ. The digerydo Lex was referring to was a talk box, you are correct Brad.
The bass line in the beginning is absolutely amazing, Tom Hamilton wrote the bass line and I love itâs so funky.
Listen to No More, No More from the Toys In The Attic album, itâs great.
Stay Cool đ andâŠ
\m/ Stay Metal \m/
The first four Aerosmith records are killer start to finish. Rocks was a favorite of Slash (Guns N Roses) and James Hetfield (Metallica).
The lyrics of 'Sweet emotion' was a diss track from 1975... Steven Tyler hated guitarist Joe Perry's gf (later wife, then ex-wife) Elissa, who was always backstage w/ Perry at Aerosmith shows and stirring up drama within the band & their gf's and wives.
In the Aerosmith biography, Elissa was a model and very vogue fashion lady... but she was very outspoken and somewhat of a loose cannon. Steven Tyler disliked her... no one in Aerosmith was fond of her. She got into a fight backstage in 1979 that resulted in Joe Perry quitting Aerosmith.
Ex-manager Tim Collins described her as controlling and unstable... especially when she and Joe Perry were both on drugs... Perry divorced Elissa in the early 80's, but had a son together. So she made Joe Perry's life difficult even after they had split... Thankfully, Joe Perry returned to Aerosmith in 1984.
Thank you.
Saw them in â76, my first rock concert! Couldnât hear for days after. Speakers stacked 20 feet tall. Iâll never forget it!
The comments of how "Sweet Emotions" had elements or a feeling of rap or could in part be what led to rap is something a number of Aerosmith songs had. That's likely the reason why Run-DMC and Aerosmith got together to do a version of the Aerosmith song "Walk This Way."
After trying to dissect it, I was glad to hear you say you liked it. That's the important, more visceral, judgement.
one of my favorite bands and tune. opening scene of "Dazed and Confused" is awesome.
Tearing it up!! Keep on rockin'!!

Great White Rock Me
Steven Tyler had always kind of a strong rythm vibe in his singing. He started playing drums, but he also took that from bluesmen, like Muddy Waters and Howlin Wolf, guys that were usually between talking/reciting and singing properly. It wasn't quite rap yet, but it was there already in the blues tradition and black music.
Another thing, Aerosmith were ahead of its time, yes, specially from the Toys in the Attic album on, which is where this song come from. Their influence on 80s and 90s american rock is huge. Guys like Slash and James Hetfield from Metallica have said that they picked a guitar in the first place because of Aerosmith.
I've been Jamming on this since 1975. Damn I'm old. But so is Aerosmith. Loved them then and love them now. Seen em twice. Didn't disappoint. đđđđŽ
I saw them in â89. One of the greatest concerts ever for me!
I like that Brad pointed out the rap similarities. A lot of early hard rock especially Aerosmith emphasized that talk/sing vocal style that is basically rapping in a rock n roll style. There is so much overlap in rock and hip hop that goes unnoticed
Reminds me of Dazed & Confused. Also there are some cool facts about this song. Steven Tyler on how the recording process went is a cool little interview.
One of the greatest songs ever written
Great reaction and thanks for sharing. This song predates Rap. But Run DMC did use an Aerosmith song and played a duel song of 'Walk This Way' with Aerosmith. This song is loosely about musicians and groupies. Backstage pass, etc. 'The Rabbit Died' was a euphemism for the girl is pregnant. The chorus is simply 'Sweet Emotion'. Dream On is another song similar to this. 'Big Ten Inch' is more early Aerosmith. Chris
Once upon a time, there was no quick little pee test for pregnancy. If you were pregnant, the bunny DID die.
I was 13 years old and bought this album . I remember playing it on my record player and trying to write all the lyrics down. Kept picking up the needle and replaying it to catch the words.
Aerosmith is the sh*t. American rock at its finest. So many great songs. Toys In The Attic was the 1st album I ever bought. Played it every single day.
My fave Aerosmith song - thank you!!!!
Please do LET THERE BE ROCK LIVE AT THE RIVER PLATE AC/DC
Brad and Lex are so funny. Brad's expression hardly ever changes but you can tell when Lex is getting into the music. Plus they need more Mama Lex, she's cool!!!
Prime seventies era Aerosmith, great hard rock from Americaâs best!!!
Lex is such a joy to watch!
This is off of the Toys in the Attic album which was the first album I ever bought. I was about 9 years old at the time.đđ€đ»đ„đ§
Nice one
You two are my favorite! Always love youâre reactions
The guitars between the lyrics, is an iconic "hook". I can't hear that and not stomp my heel and move my head! Peace!
sweet emotion aerosmith
I became obsessed with the bass line in the intro since the song pretty much first came out . It's a tricky groove to nail but once you get it , it's hard to stop . I could play the opening riff for the bass all day .
"Rop" is the greatest word invention of the 21st century; now we finally have a category for Rage Against The Machine! Okay, seriously, according to an article I read, Aerosmith's typical songwriting process goes like this: 1) the instrumentalists work out some jams; 2) Steven Tyler comes in and scats(sings nonsense syllables) over each jam until they get the vocal sounds they want for the music; 3) usually Steven then constructs lyrics that sound like the scatting that sounded best. The lyrics don't always mean a lot, but they sure sound good with the music.
"Rop"...simple but brilliant!
Rage has already been comprehensively defined as Rap/Funk metal, with progressive implications(you could argue hard rock at times). They have a distinctive tone, and obviously vary from song to song, but ultimately they always fall within those genres' parameters.
Train kept a Rollin' off Get your Wings. Remake of Yardbirds. True, true rocker
GOOSEBUMPS ALL OVER đ„°đ.
This also reminds me of Jennifer Aniston in âWeâre The Millers.â
Aloha đș
I love your reactions! Thank you and Merry Christmas!
"I pulled into town in a police car!"--man, that was a thug lyric by Stevie Boy right there!
đ€Šââïž
Walk This Way by Aerosmith and Run DMC was one of the first Rock/Rap hybrid songs in the early 80's
Man I had SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much FUN growing up to this
Love both Toys in the Attic and Rocks early Aerosmith albums, bangers!! đ„
Hmmm, both kinda confounded, at different ends...
I like Brad's analogy of chorus. đđœ
Nice reaction to a classic. Still waiting on that reaction to "What It Takes" - my favorite Aerosmith track.
Later Aerosmith gets a lot of flack but What It Takes is a great song and one of my favorites, too.
The percussion instrument in the intro is called a Vibra-Slap. Haha! I have one! The Maraca sound is actually sugar packets shaken into a fully turned up microphone.
Brad is right....Great flow, this song just jams
âCanât catch me because the rabbit gone diedâ, back in the old days they tested for pregnancy by injecting a rabbit with female hormones to see if it died
In the 1920s a test was developed where a female rabbit was injected with urine from a woman who wanted to know if she was pregnant. If she was pregnant, then her urine would have the hormone hCG in it. If a female rabbit is injected with a woman's urine that has the hormone hCG, then the ovaries of the rabbit would swell and turn yellow. The rabbit would not die from the urine injection, the rabbit died when it was killed and dissected to examine it's ovaries. Frogs and mice were also used to perform the tests.
As much as Lex loves guitar, I wish they would react to Unleash the Archers -- Awakening. Take her guitar level up a notch.
AEROSMITH is legend.
"You can't catch me cuz the rabbit done died." So he's saying that he got her pregnant.
The rabbit test, or Friedman test, was an early pregnancy test developed in 1931 by Maurice Friedman and Maxwell Edward Lapham[1] at the University of Pennsylvania.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rabbit_test
Check out the song "Mamma Kin" it's a banger..
You also need to do the companion song to this, "Walk this way." It's not one of those things were they have to be played back to back but they pretty much do go together. Walk this way is more fast paced and fun. The lead singer, Steven Tyler is Liv Tyler's birth daddy. Steven Tyler is the best at making up cool phrases. My favorite of his is, "Ain't got no rubbers and it's raining all the time."
A theme? The dude is horny. LOL. Run DMC did a cover of "Walk this Way" the companion song to this i mentioned above long after Aerosmith was popular. Steven Tyler was in the video and i believe the cover. Right after the cover version of that song Aerosmith remerged as a huge group and had a even bigger more successful career than when they first came out.
Long before Hip Hop / Rap, there was AEROSMITH. "Walk This Away" came out in 1973..."Sweet Emotion" came out in 1975. The first official mainstream Hip Hop song was Sugar Hill Gang's "Rapper's Delight" came out in 1979. Immediately followed by Kurtis Blow and Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five as I remember it.
Good ol' 70s Aerosmith
Sweeeeeeeeeeet emotion.. my favorite Aerosmith tune of all-time! You guys are getting exposed to the gud stuff!
Itâs amazing to me how deep Lex feels. Lex is a sailing ship, Brad is her anchor.
The songâs lyrics were written by Steven Tyler directly at Joe Perryâs (lead guitarist) wife
The chorus was when they were singing "Sweet Emotion" part which is the title of the song.
The great Aerosmith is the old Aerosmith....the only new Aerosmith I love is 'Eat the Rich' because they went pop-sh in the old Mtv days.
I saw them during that transition at a dance hall with a $10.00 cover. It was really bad, glad they got their crap together.
I agree, the 70" Aerosmith was raw, the 80's turned them into clowns
âCongrats to everyone who is early and who found this commentâ!
