Run DMC had nothing to do with writing the song (even though you will still here people to this day making that claim). The song was published on Aerosmith's 'Toys in the Attic' album in 1975, when the members of Run DMC were only 10 and 11 years old.

You have to listen to songs like kings and queens draw the line. Last child, And back in the saddle. All incredible priceless songs I canât express how good they are. Ya know, Aerosmith were (are) great rockers but they also always......and I remember this even back in the 1970's when I was first listening to them....always had that little bit of funk/R&B thing going on with them too, and Steve Tyler always had an almost scat/rap style to his vocal delivery. Whether it was this song, or "Last Child" or "Walk This Way" or even "Train Kept A Rollin'" or "Rag Doll," there was always that funky rhythm soul thing to their songs that I loved. So it was no surprise to me when they hooked up with Run-DMC in the mid-80's, that always seemed like a natural fit to me.
In 1976 I saw a three band show - Angel Rush and Aerosmith. It was the Toys in the Attic tour. One of the most amazing shows I have seen in my 45 years of concert going. They were the shit!
Back in the Saddle, Last Child, Big Ten Inch, or Hang Mans Jury are all different types of good Aerosmith songs. Their version of "Train Kept a Rolling", covered by many people, is as good as anyone who has done it!

I grew up in a very eclectic neighborhood and we had black kids, white kids and Jewish kids we all smoked weed and listened to these albums together. Love you James Jackson and David balsom forever.
