Ready for Apple Vision Pro? I definitely am! But, in the meantime, I swapped my Samsung Odyssey Neo monitor for the Meta Quest 3 and spent 30 days working in the Metaverse with VR to create the ultimate Quest 3 review. I tested this new VR headset and put it through its paces by fully immersing myself and trying to make the most of the Meta Workspaces app. Want an awesome home office setup but can’t afford thousands of dollars? Get a Meta Quest 3 and have an office on the beach that you can personalise to your heart’s content!

hey @peteMatheson Do you know if the Oculus Rift can cause seizures because I have been known to have seizures i know your not a doctor but what do you think?
People always review it with the stock headstrap. That's all of the Quests downfall. The Q3 specifically benefits massively from an aftermarket strap. The weight is almost imperceptible. I work exclusively for 5-6 hours in mine. With the occasional break between. I can safely say that within the next 5 or so years. My monitors will be going to the local goodwill.
Hey which one you are using? Thanks
@@StasVarych bobo vr m3 for 49 dollars you get the most comfortable head strap and you get a battery pack
@@StasVarych jaybratt has a roundup of accessories. I use Bobo m3 but not everyone likes halo style and may prefer Elite strap style (aubika, kiwi, etc)
@@StasVarych I have the bobo M2 with the Q3 adapter. There isn't a difference between the two. They're the same headstrap.
100%, any halo strap with decent enough reviews should work. I can play for hours or watch movies for as long as I want and it's super comfortable. Even fell asleep in that mf a couple times in the past two weeks 💀
Please note that a lot of the lag for Xbox Gamepass is due to Gamepass App Cloud Streaming, not the headset itself. To more closely isolate controller to headset input lag, you should do local streaming like playing 2D games on Steam Link instead of Cloud Gaming.
can i run games on pc and just cast the screen using immersed or meta link? does that cause input lag because the controller is providing input to pc directly.
@@amandahiya94 Short answer: there should basically be no noticeable lag unless you're playing a competitive shooter and your PC (for link) and router (for immersed) isn't struggling to cast.
About the Hand Tracking:
- it looks like you were grabbing when the gesture it's looking for is pinching
- to sidestep the issue entirely, as long as you don't mind pausing whatever in between locations, you can dismiss and resummon the menu to wherever you currently are with the right hand menu gesture
Came here to either say this or find the comment lol.
Lol, same! I wrote it again though because I thought there was a greater chance he would see it if it was written several times!
It's because your walking fast... confusing the headset. Typically people just move them and don't walk around the house. Meta will update all of these quirks making this better.
Am I the only one that finds the measuring of the virtual displays immensely entertaining? :D
I find the hand tracking works best when the cameras can see your fingers. Try grabbing and moving virtual objects with your thumb facing towards your face and where all your fingers are visible. Basically, turn your hand over when grabbing objects 😊
Tried it all! The lighting didn’t help when filming but even in good light it struggles no matter what.
It would rather pretend that my hands are on the floor than when I wave them in front of my face!
@PeteMatheson Just wanted to add that most hand tracking actions on the menus work best when pinching your index finger and thumb together rather than grabbing. It still messes up quite a bit, but it's better.
I prefer to still use the controllers. The hand tracking is still clunky.
@@PeteMathesonYou have to deactivate the controllers by double-tapping them together lightly. Then it is all pinching between your thumb and index finger, it works great for me, it just takes time to get used to.
@@PeteMatheson pinch it and dont grab it i do it with my quest 2 (black and white passthrough) and it works fine
Hand tracking works incredibly well. Your hand position was the issue not the tracking.
+1
Loved the video, but i just think you were pinching incorrectly
Watching you try handtracking was killing me. Makes me wonder if you did the tutorial?
Meta Quest 3 is the only VR/mixed reality headset to own in my opinion. Amazing!
Pete! I'm pretty sure you were trying to grab the screen instead of pinch the screen, theres gestures you have to learn
Pinching is even less accurate than gripping 🤷🏼♂️
Only if you’re in a very brightly lit room does it work reasonably well
for the hand tracking to work its better to just pinch the edges of the virtual screens not use the whole hand
alyx is the best game i’ve ever played in vr. it was so when i was playing it when VR was new for me, it is so when i’ve played so many games none of which have topped it.
I'm honestly so confused, did you not follow the hand tracking tutorial? You pinch not grab, and you need more lighting.
Immersed has been wonderful! Im on Quest 2, so passthrough isn't great, but it's enough to communicate with those around me and be aware of my surroundings! I hate being fully immersed aside from games, maybe its the tism but idk
Dude their hand tracking works great and I still have the older headset. I think your issue is you need to have a lot of light anywhere you are using it and your lights were low and you were walking into shadowed areas.
The issue is that he's grabbing when the correct gesture is pinching. You see that in the tutorials too.
Its not like that that you have to grab the virtual screen so Its why you have some issue with tracking
thanks for the video! with my quest2 I notice that lighting is very important for handtracking. So all your passive light make it hard so see your hands I would assume
hand tracking is great. idk why you were trying to grab it from the side and other areas where it's not meant to be grabbed. its obvious you don't spend any time in VR as the average VR user knows how to handle the VR menu without the clumsy controls
In the vr game's do you aim guns using the hand controller to point them like would would with an actual handgun - and is it as accurate and similar speed to using a mouse like with pc games. ?
hi sir, i am a movie lover. i purchased xreal air 2 for watching movies. but because of lens i could not enjoy movies, and its 3d is worst. so i decided to buy quest 3.
can i enjoy 3d movies etc on META QUEST 3 ?
can we use it while charging ?
best external battery/ head band ?
can we enjoy 3d photos like vision pro ?
love your videos
❤️ love this comment! 😀
In fact, hand tracking works pretty well. It is just you don't know the proper gestures.
If you're just using it for productivity, do you need an optimized pc to hook it too?
Regarding Immersed, I'm unsure if it is available in the free version, but you can tweak the resolution and encoding. It looks so much better than the stock apps and on top of that you can have like 5 monitors at the same time. That's crazy.
beautiful video
Bobo VR S3 Pro head strap is a game changer for the Quest 3 apparently with hot swappable batteries and fan
What's the cool yellow cable you are using? I want one for my headset.
Straws are bout to get real popular
The thing with the controllers you have to have it connected to the headset. Microsoft should really have a mapping for the quest controllers.
I really hope knuckle controlers become the norm, just using your hand is the most natural way and I think VR would improve vastly with it
btw, the hand tracking does way better with pinching your thumb and pointer finger to grab things. Gripping how you were with your hands facing away from the headset doesn't track well.
Keep the hand tracking simple
You were grabbing it in a weird way but pinch the corner Apple Vision Pro style lol
Haha! How does one grab in a weird way? Is this a throwback to that President?
Is it possible to have more than 3 monitors?
Do that work with PlayStation 5 & 4 ??
How did you stop the lag?
The issues with the hand tracking and switching is a you problem there are solutions in the options you can set the change over from controller to hand options or you could run thru the hand tracking tutorial and it will show you how to do it correctly since the way you are attempting to use it is not the gestures it is looking for
in therapie als iemand boos word body monitoren en dan een grappig persoonlijk ding laten komen op basis van lichaam sensoren zodat je moet lachen om elkaar
So you explained all of this which is nice, but how do you actually start working on 1 or 3 screens?
Just need to use Horizon Workrooms, or Immersed. There's an accompanying app you install on your computer which connects it all up!
Thank you@@PeteMatheson
you should connect to a pc if you wanna play high graphic game in it
Did you try it on video editing? For example on Final Cut? Is it have any lag on audio sync on video editing?
I tend to wear headphones when doing something like that, and it works perfectly. Airpod Max when watching content or editing from the Mac 👌🏼
It’s easier to grab the screen if you just make a normal fist
A much easier way to take your screen with you is just to close and open the menu again by pinchng your fingers. The screen will recenter wherever you are when you toggle the menu again
The hand tracking identifies pinches, not grabs haha
0:32 awesome video. I was watching to see if I should get the Q3 or cough it up for the AVP…and it was this right here An immediate no for me for the product. not because it’s cheap or bad…it’s because THE ENTIRE INTERIOR OF YOUR HOME is stored on an AWS cloud server that is controlled by Facebook. NEVER. awesome content
00:50 do you know what is implied in what you are saying.
As if the device is not able to save the data offline.
The Quest 3 was kind of compelling, but I'd rather stay away from it now.
never seen a person measuring a virtual screen irl
I'm really surprised they haven't nailed down the latency and framerate issues when streaming a game to your virtual display yet. You can play a pcvr game without those issues but not a normal game it makes no sense
whats the app for remote desktop you use?
Immersed?
Hello i vegot a quest 3 and made a test with ultimate emf detector : it showed bursts to 1000 microtesla but then came back to 50. Isit dangerous ?
Thats interesting. Any wireless device gives off levels of radiation in general. If it has a bluetooth/wifi transmitter best believe.
I have a Quest 3 and it’s cool but still cumbersome to do anything for long periods of time. I still prefer physical monitors. Once these headsets are as light as a pair of glasses, that’s gonna change the world.
I am a programmer and I can work max 10 minutes with this thing, the picture quality and sharpness and the whole heavy headset is a total no go for work.
I see absolutely no reason why VR is better than a normal screen. The contrary is the case.
hey can you make another channel where you talk straight to the point? like some of ud dont like the presentation aspect of and honestly its very boring and gets in the learning process, i understand a lot of audience like dramatization but some of us really just a want information, i mean even a webcam is okay just tell it all soon.
Dude pinch not grab...
I got sick just from watching the passthrough in this video, returned mines after 2 days, it was impossible.
Yeah, a hard pass 4 me. I'll keep my Q2 until service terminated and turn into a rock
Tell me one time that Apple has been truly innovative since Steve Jobs died?
you can not throw your controller at your tv by just using the INCLUDED hand straps 15:53
"..slower at adopting new technology but at the forefront of innovation"... To be fair. In the space of technology creating and adopting new technology is innovation. But perhaps we are talking about thew "innovation" like locking users out from installing third party apps, the innovation to use proprietary connectors... no wait all of those were done in the early 2000's by everyone.
Just use your Thumb and Index Finger and pinch the side of screen. Then is works fine. 😉
For hand tracking I think it is better to use your index finger and thumb in pinch gesture, not curling all fingers in a fist. Yet it is still not the best experience, sadly, and not as much of an improvement from quest 2 a year ago. Still we getting there :)
You're supposed to pinch your fingers, not make a fist. I'm not surprised hand tracking didn't go all that well.
Bello
I feel like the lag is more because of GamePass than it is because of the Quest.
Quest Pro is still better then Quset 3 for this purpose: much better lcd quality and colors & comfort when used with globular cluster.
Smokers alert!
lol you could’ve just opened the screen again
Interesting -- didn't get into this topic until WWDC's announcement of AVP. But kinda glad I didn't? If this is Meta's third-gen product (and I know they have Pro level in addition), it seems like it's not ready for primetime -- that passthrough with the wavy outlines of near vs. far objects, and the inability to see screens of other devices is a pretty big downside -- I get it, if you have a virtual screen environment, you can check all your VR screens instead of real ones, but just moving around and the hands create a warp-y pass through seems so odd. Your hands not being able to grasp the virtual screen is similar to the frustrating experience with Siri -- only a handful of times at unsuccessful attempts and you'd give up trying -- that would be the same with this -- it HAS to work, or won't get adopted. If AVP proves it can do what they touted at WWDC (which most of the influencers/media that got to do hands-on demos say it does deliver), then those that complain about price have nothing, NOTHING to complain about if THIS is the competition and doesn't really work. Resolution also seems to be a downside of these devices; it has to be as close to real eyes as possible (and again, understand that that's advanced and expensive technology, but considered early in this product category). I know each generation of anything will get better over time, and if adoption is necessary to get that feedback (although data privacy and sale of that data is a separate and important topic), then you do need unit sales volume, but if it seems like it's more still in-development, I don't think I'd want to waste the $500 for Meta Quest 3, or $1000 for Meta Quest Pro.
Thanks for the video. However, its not really that helpful sadly. There's no information how this actually works. How do you set it up to connect to a computer, how do you make virtual monitors and put different apps in each monitor. How do you use a keyboard and mouse. ?
Another basic product-promotion review, though thanks for xl screen measuring
so like... this is better than the vision pro in many respects...
When you said that the hand tracking was bad because you couldn’t move the screen you were grabbing it wrong.
You have to use your pointer finger and thumb like youre popping a pimple.
Nice video
Thank you!
Pass through looks like if you were on a constant mushroom trip. 😆
On the other hand scanning my entire home and upload it to Meta doesn't sound very appealing. 👀
Totally agree, but it’s still early days. If they added a great camera the battery would die in 20 minutes. In 5 years the clarity will be almost real life
@@smith9808 I think it's not about camera quality, rather a storage/memory limitation issue as the author said.
I don't really trust any provider with my personal space, so unless my data is stored in my local network, or rather unless the source code of these things are open source I will stay away from these tech.
I could say that I trust Valve more than Meta, etc (no one with their right mind should trust Meta with anything), I'd just rather keep my personal space for myself. 🤷
Edit: I just realized that you're talking about the first part of my comment. The overall image quality looks decent to me, but the blurry and "moving" edges of the objects you see around yourself is quite distracting, I would think this could be solved by software (or maybe more computational power) to be able to detect edges better.
@@smith9808 Interesting, it means that with advances like graphene batteries a lot of product cons would be solved.
Handtracking is fine you were literally grabbing that screen in the worst possible way
He is meant to use his thumb and index finger to move the console around. Gripping with a fist caused his problems.
“Some kinds of headsets will almost entirely replace both phones and desktop computers (and radio, hifi, television, wall clock, pictures, sculptures, interior design etc., as well as many of the physical places, plazas, workplaces, studios, cinemas, museums, churches, courthouses, schools, council-chambers etc.), while local computing and storing capacity will almost entirely be replaced by wireless, real-time, cloud based solutions and people will not even have their software installed (or even separated) or their data stored locally and the same will happen with financial operations that turns into merely data stored centrally still in my lifetime” - I said this some 20 years ago (I was about 35), and everybody was literally laughing at me, and it’s most definitely happening unstoppably, after all.
I don't struggle at all with the hand tracking, surprised yours is so bad.
maybe don’t review hand tracking quality if you don’t know that you have to be in a well lit area and use it correctly 😭😭😭
Even in well lit environments, it's not the best. And grabbing it with a hand also works just fine (when it works!)
Maybe if you were using hand tracking correctly it would be better XD
Your suppose to pinch, not grab the screen by closing your whole hand
Bring the window with also two finger ... not with all hand
Will Forte
If everyone tbinks you did it wrong and they watched you, you did it wrong bro
Cloud gaming will never replace native gaming.
I'd appreciate if you shake camera less and shake VR headset less while recording, so that we can actually see what you are trying to show =)
No!
....makes you wonder how the eye/iris scans are being used for and whom their sold to.
Pinchhhh
It makes no sense to me why VR insists on strapping a device to your face. Just make normal size glasses and have it connect to a device on the table or strapped to your belt.
Do you have any idea how hard it is to place large tech into tiny glasses?
@@jnewgot exactly why the glasses should just be like AR, the VR headset doesn't need a device strapped to your face when it can connect wirelessly to a device on the table.
Missed genuine gaming entirely, both in headset and PC, and also cinema content etc but managed to squeeze in a plug about the usual - apple - who are 10 years late to an existing party with their usual name changing (not game changing) rhetoric for mad money demands. Now the Apple VR/AR is out (yes it is just that AR/VR) I bet you're fairly disappointed but got it anyway for the view count.
The hand tracking is fine. You are doing it wrong
who is "he"???
The whole social acceptance aspect reminds me when clowns were making fun of AirPods back in 2016. Now everyone has them. Use new technology proudly. It’s obvious AI and AR and VR is the future
Yeah, but--you're NOT really working, are you? Just goofing around in the VR space. Like all the other yutubers. Not even typing or do some serious Excel, for a change. I know it's still not possible to do so because even 5 minutes (or less) reading in that environment your eyes will get hurt and skull feels like they're about to split open.
Not in the video I’m not no. I did a previous video that covered the working aspect a little more - but tldr it’s VERY usable for working for longer than 5 minutes
@@PeteMatheson can I have the link, so I can see for myself?
Severely lacking in anything productive!
Why? These are meant for gaming.
Oh, ffs ...you mentioned playing games on a "huge movie screen" ...several times ...but you had to forget to talk about the experience of watching movies on Quest 3... just for like 5minutes? That's just fqqqng lazy, dude
OK I’m getting nauseated just watching this wobbly video.
Couldn’t make it halfway through 🤢
