      Honestly I just wish applications would let you stream the window of the application instead of the whole monitor in VR. Someday, maybe.
      Honestly most of our data collection methods are 2d, whether that's written documents, spreadsheets, drawings, Eck so I think 2D applications just floating in space are more likely the average use case. There are things like CAD another spatially driven things that might need something a bit more dynamic

    I use Immersed whenever I want to do work but then not be at all distracted. I've put in full time work hours with it too. I really like being able to arrange the displays exactly how I want them. It improved my productivity ten-fold when it was working. The problem I had was that my work laptop was trash and we were stuck using resource-heavy Teams for communication.

    Thank you for the excellent review. I've been using Immersed on and off for a few years now with my Quest 2 when the need for extra monitors necessitate it, however, I kept going back to the tiny laptop screen because the resolution of the Quest 2 is just a tad too low, the edge to edge clarity leaves a lot to be desired and the grey scale passthrough is terrible. It looks like all three have been improved and should make the experience a lot more enjoyable and practical.
    You can disable hand interactions with a ring finger and thumb pinch. Menus and the like still work, but you wont accidentally move portals or screens.

  • @SimonGrech
    @SimonGrech Před 6 měsíci +6

    The issue of grabbing the passthrough window over the keyboard is a user issue :P You can pinch both your ring finger to your thumb together while holding your palm facing you and like that you will "disable" your hands. Like that you won't grab and virtual objects by mistake while typing or anything else.

    Since I have been using Immersed, I have been experiencing some jankiness from the software like not being able to easily get to pass through from the menu and the hard tracking going south from time to time. This can be fixed by restarting the software on the Quest. I suspect that now people are starting to use it, an update will be coming. Glad to see you’re using Godot! That’s another video 😂

    • @bc_labs
      @bc_labs  Před 7 měsíci

      It would depend on the streamer, but probably the best paying that you'd be able to get between your computer and the quest is going to be like 20 to 30 milliseconds, so it depends on what level of play you're at on league. You'd have to test different remote desktop clients to find the one that's got the lowest delay

  • @BrackenSharp
    @BrackenSharp Před 7 měsíci

    • @bc_labs
      @bc_labs  Před 7 měsíci

      I would probably recommend virtual desktop, but supposedly some people are getting really low latency with immersed. So I may do some testing to see if I can find some optimal settings to get the latency down on it such that it doesn't make playing games like League or CS to difficult.
      Currently you can only have one active screen up at a time unless you swap back and forth, but virtual desktop definitely has the tools to make the best connection for that one screen especially if you're in a gaming situation and basically want is fast and as clear of an image as possible

      From my experience it seems like they stay in the same spot unless you change your room. The headset does spatial tracking of individual rooms, and only seems to remember one or two.
      So if you used immersed in your office for example, if you don't set up any other rooms in between uses it should remember roughly your position of everything from last time if let's say one day later you try to use it in your office again. It's not necessarily perfect but it's usually pretty close.
      If you were to move to a different room and set up let's say a spot in your living room I don't know if it will recall your settings from your office if you went back to the office.

That's based on worst case battery consumption, but the fact that the deck can pull up to 18 watts and most of those batteries are between 12 and 15 watt, still means the deck does partially drain the entire time.

That is likely because when I capture it on a video, you're putting a 4 megapixel camera stream on a much smaller display generally it's going to be on someone smartphone or maximum a 27-in monitor. If you do the same thing but you cover your entire field of vision with a four megapixel camera feed, you're not going to get the same level of quality, it's going to be very fuzzy and blurry.

      In really really good lighting, it looks pretty dang good. Like I was able to read the ingredient labels in my fridge with it on quite well, but as soon as the lighting Falls to like decent or less than decent it goes to Absolute crap.
      As someone else pointed out and out in a discussion it's probably due to the fact that you can't set the exposure time higher on these cameras due to the fact that you need a high refresh rate, which just comes into the physics of cameras. Unless you have a massive expensive sensor, you need more time if you want a better quality image, which Cuts in the refresh rate it would make it feel stutters.
      I think that there's options for them to improve pass through with software upscaling to fill in the blanks essentially, or if they did some kind of interlacing so that they could Alternate which cameras are being read at any given time to give a longer frame time, but idk. Can I pull the monitor in front of my eyes and watch videos while lying in bed? Or can I watch a movie while sitting at the sink?
    Do virtual monitors look clear? Will I have difficulty reading texts while chatting on Discord?

      Definitely can do all of those things. The virtual text is super clear. The passthrough cameras are a bit lacking though. Possible to do chores or check your phone but it's not clear enough to truly watch a show on a TV or use your phone extensively while wearing it

      @@bc_labs Will it be better than the movie I watched on a 24-inch 1080p monitor?

    Hello. Could this be a solution for those who need 2 monitors on their laptop to create 3d animations? I am concerned about video freezing and image quality

      I'm not going to say that there's not occasional video hitches, but they're fairly infrequent it seems especially if you have a good router. Image quality is capped at the 1200P or the resolution of the screen that you physically have, but that's also rendered on a 2K display in each eye if you had a 4k monitor that was filling the screen you actually are losing a lot of fidelity.
      If you're currently working on like a 1080P or a 2k, it should be somewhat comparable, but the pixels per degree is still worse than a regular monitor.
      I don't work with 3D animation so I can't speak for how the software works if your PC's under extreme load from a render, though.

      @@bc_labs Thanks for the reply, in my case, I work with a 2k monitor and a laptop screen. Render is extremely rare for me, usually I have a task with animation or mocap cleanup. As I understand there is no alternative in the form of a cable connection.
