What is it like to own a Nissan Titan ? (Year 3)

  • April 2017 we decided to trade in our 2012 Nissan Frontier Pro4x for the 2017 Nissan Titan Pro4x. We decided to lease the truck for the lower price per month to have it in the driveway. Would we lease again? Would we own the second generation Titan again? How did the Titan tow?
Dave and Kelly discuss the good and bad about having this truck in our driveway for three years.

Because people are busy with celebrating Toyota GM Ford and forget and ignore these gem of Nissan cars and they have wrong opinion about Nissan as bad cars due to propoganda, hence Nissan cars dont get respect which they deserve.
Anyway Nissan gets respect from those who have experienced thier quality and durability.

I can tell you that Nissan's reputation for transmission failure kept me away from the 1st Gen Titans when I was shopping pick-ups a few years back. It's only been within the last month that I've begun to find reliable and consistent vouching for the integrity of the transmissions. Both the Gen 1 and Gen 2 are good looking trucks but I never felt I could trust the Titan or Armada.

Sad day for sure! That is a nice truck and with all the resources Nissan threw at it I was surprised at the sales figures, I figured more people would have jumped into it and it would have outsold the outdated Tundra! Paint on my Taco is poor as well, easily chipped and I don't think it will hold up over the years. I plan on a lot of washing and waxing. My 2008 Dakota had a thicker stronger paint job it seemed. Life is an adventure and this is just one page in the Nissan Nation Podcast! Looking forward to the future!

We just returned from Galvastan, TX. we Live in St. Cloud Minnesota 6 Days on the Road both directions 3200 miles total. The last leg of the trip we got 12.2 mpg pulling a 5th wheel to me was impressive. we averaged about 8.1 mpg for the whole trip strong head wind and side wind going down, luckily we had a tail wind coming back. Oh, and they changed out the fan clutch because it was running all the time. All warranty, so great on my wallet! I came from a 2003 Frontier I4 5 speed, black. Never ever any issues at all. So far, we love this Titan, even when towing a 32ft Camper! I too am not brand loyal, but, I have become very Nissan centered. Just wish they would put a bigger gas Tank on them... I’m not really sure what to think about the engine. Mine had the # 7 cylinder issue. Got replaced under warranty, new long block installed. The engine isn’t that much different than the old gen (which seemed like a good engine). It’s just direct injected, VVT, and different pistons. I really hope my 2nd motor doesn’t have the same issue. Warranty is about up. Mine was a 2017, seems to be common. Transmission is not the best. But the motor has good power, and sounds great with stock exhaust.

I just bought a 2017 Nissan Titan SV. Im glad to hear its a good truck the only thing I do not agree with is the MPG. My mpg since I have gotten it my mpg has been staying at 13.1. I use my truck for work so I drive a lot (18000 miles in 5 months). The MPG is my only complaint but not complaint because of the power this truck gives to haul and tow. And no I am not taking the gas mpg when towing or with a full bed this is the mpg driving empty on the highway. Anyone have any tips about getting better gas mileage would be appreciated.

I got my eye on these. I leased a 2018 Pathfinder and I have to say not impressed whatsoever. Front impact sensor hasn’t worked since 8months after we drove it off the lot. It’s been back for service for repair, and again it’s flaking out. ABS doesn’t work when it goes out, not impressed. It just feels like a cheap vehicle and the trim that breaks along with it. The paint problem you pointed out is nothing to over look, I don’t feel like we as customers should get a clear body wrap to protect a cheap paint job. I’ve had 2 F150s and both were good vehicles. I’m not brand loyal so I’ll go with what has the best features for the price, it might be a Titan, and it might not. If I do go with it, it’ll be a lease for sure, that way there I’m not stuck with it if it disappoints like the Pathfinder.

Be glad it hasn't developed "the knock'. Apparently some cylinder heads (particularly #7) were not honed properly and its a gamble on if you get a bad one or not. This info is coming not only from titan forums, but my best friend is a Nissan master tech and told me to steer clear of these as he has seen several come in for engine swaps and it is a royal pain. It sucks because this was going to be my next truck but I take his word as gospel and I don't want to roll the dice on an almost 40k vehicle. But I agree with the paint issue, every company has it down to a science to use the absolute minimum amount of paint to cover the metal, sad for how much they cost.

I don't really like saying this but... you can't blame nissan for the paint.. I own a 2014 fiesta ST. The key being 2 things.. the year model, (first year the environmental wackos made water based paint mandatory here on ALL US manufactured vehicles) And second where it is manufactured.. mine for example was produced in mexico.ANYTHING touches the paint and it chips.. The paint process has improved over the years but still not progressing as you would expect. And most importantly how can you expect ANYTHING that is made of water to be hard and chip resistant??? So thank you latte drinking tree hugging wierdo's may your car have all the paint chips you deserve..

All Nissans, start creaking and rattling a few years down the line...they're great when new.
But that has been their quality after being taken over

5,6 gasoline engine is crap. Engine knocking, always cylinder number 7. Purchase brand new Titan 2017. Have a short block replacement at 24000 kilometres June 2019. Now at 35000 kilometres the knocking is back. Exact same story for two others guy here in my small town. I see guys on a third motor for 2018 models. I see armada 2019 and Titan with engine knocking too. I see hundreds of cases on Facebook pages. RUN FOR YOUR LIVE!!

I was considering the gas version of this truck because there's a low miles truck nearby available, probably look for a Cummins powered instead. Thanks for sharing y'all's info

Eric I see in a email notice your comment but sadly do not see it here..
we’ve not had any issue with the 7 speed. I did have it updated but after that no problems.
The new 9 speed is amazing.. when we tested it back in November I thought it may search for gears all the time but never noticed it at all
