Avatar is an impressive game from a technical point of view.
I did an 8K torture test on their 'Unobtanium' unlock setting with a 7900XTX and it sent everything to 'Max'. I got about 5fps but it maxed the VRam, completed the benchmark and never crashed once. While the frame time was absurd at 60ms it was a.. smooth 60? Once you get past the 5fps average and see the stability in what I did, you kind of have to tip your hat.
Oh wow this is very interesting. I appreciate you sharing the information. I was not aware of the mode youâre referring to. But Iâm glad to know it exists.
Great video, thanks.
Glad you liked it!
Are the values for AVG and 1% Low FPS for some games pre benched? I noticed that even when the FPS where around 120-130 for the whole footage for RE4 the AVG of 150 didnt change a bit. Also the 1% LOW didnt change even when hitting high Frametimes during some events.
I didnt use the benchmark of MSI Afterburner that much, but I think as long as the benchmark is "active" the values are able to change
Happy New Year Erock and I bet you'll hit the with more subs in 2024. Can't wait to hear your take on the 40XX Super variants
Happy New Year! Thank you so much! Iâll definitely be reviewing the 40 super series! Stay tuned!

Thank you!
that was an interesting look at how the 4090 performs. i would like to see this same thing done with the 4080 but I assume it would perform about 20-30% less and maybe even need upscaling to play 4k ultra comfortably in some games.
This isnât exactly the same. However, itâs a decent video that shows the 4080 at 4K. czcams.com/video/QB02iDWU9pA/video.htmlsi=94UCCcqth92s3yYK
My dude, you are a mind reader, haha. I was just thinking it might be time to make the jump to 2160p (from 1440p). Been running with the 4090 for a while now, and ... well, your video is set to answer all my questions.
Thanks so much for this last look at the 4090, and all that's left to say is that I wish you and your channel a prosperous 2024 (and beyond).
Glad I could help! Thatâs so awesome to hear! Thank you for letting me know!

Very good showcase for the gpu and games. I can really see the difference a good optimized game makes from these comparisons. Much continued success my friend - You deserve it!

Happy new year! Thank you!
Great video! I just got the same card at a local Staples here in MA for $1650 + tax (it's a one off store in Hyannis on Cape Cod that is currently experimenting with selling gaming PC parts to be a competitor to Microcenter and Best buy, found out about it from a video by the CZcamsr "Mryeester")! Using it with an LG C2 42" @ 4K 120HZ and it's sooo nice compared to my 3070 I had previously.
Got my 4090 on release day and it's never missed a beat since. The performance uplift was so good I'm thinking of skipping the next GPU generation altogether. Great videođđŒ

Realistically speaking, you don't need to upgrade your PC for years after upgrading. I got a 6800 XT last year and I probably won't NEED to upgrade until 2030 (generous estimation), though I might upgrade out of convenience in like 2027 or 2028.
If you got a 4090 on release, then you probably won't NEED to upgrade anywhere in the next decade. For convenience, you should probably wait a good long while, otherwise you're wasting your money.
Iâm going to push through with my 3090 and get a 5090 on launch day with an all new build.
Push through? Lmao wtf is wrong with people in pc gaming? Acting like their stupid high end cards are just useless because a new gen came out. The 3090 and 3080 are handling literally anything thrown at them, still.
Great video to end the year man! Excited to see what you do in 2024. 4090 is still a beast but itâs kinda crazy to see how crippled it is because of poor game optimization in some case.
I would not say 4090 is crippled, since you can either reduce a couple of graphics settings down a notch (which won't make any game look worse at all) or enable DLSS (which looks excellent at "Quality" preset). In some cases Frame Gen may help too. 4090 will remain a great 4K GPU, at least, for a year.
Thank you man! I really appreciate it! Yes, game optimization is key!
@@stangamer1151The 4090 will remain relevant for longer than another year. We are just saying some games have excellent optimization and it really lets the 4090 spread its wings. However, other games are not properly optimized and assume youâll just default to DLSS and Frame Generation. These technologies should be the icing on the cake. They should not be the cake.
@@ErockOnTech I would say games like Alan Wake 2, Avatar Frontiers of Pandora, and even Cyberpunk after many updates, are well optimised. They are just very intensive and push the limits of current gen hardware. A poorly optimised game is Redfall. That has atrocious optimisation. Everyone has seen how mind blowing the graphics look in Cyberpunk, Alan Wake 2, and especially Avatar Frontiers of Pandora.
@@jeevan1198 Yes, after some updates these games all run better than they did at launch and they are all very demanding in the graphics department.
Got the Msi liquid suprim x 4090 any recommendations on what cpu I should get?
i9 14900k
Depends what you'll be doing with it. If only gaming, 7800x3d. If a mix of gaming and work/content creation, 7950x or 14900k (13900ks).
IIRC the 4090 is bottlenecked by weaker CPUs. I believe the 13900K was a good CPU for it or higher, or the 7800x3d. There's probably benchmarks out there for it.
@@juxlambo You want him to have 3rd degree burns?
Great job man !đ i am still gaming with i5 4590 and gt 710
Using a MSI Suprim 4090 and its rock solid. Had 0 issues since i got the card last christmas.
I really enjoy aiming for Native 4k Mac settings so this was the perfect video for me. I'm seriously considering upgrading from my 7900XT to be able to play more games at Native 4k without having to sacrifice many graphics settings.
It depends on if you let unoptimized games bother you. If i had a 4090 i wouldn't let it bother me i know the games unoptimized so ill work settings around it. They do that to make you upgrade gpus faster.
Updating the dGPU data base with Super data. Still Interested? Data sometime mid week. mb
Yeah feel free to send it over.
@@ErockOnTech I have the GPU data base current back to Maxwell and Polaris updated through today and will get a slide set out in the next few days. Certainly before Friday. Mike
Damn I didnât know you switched to Intel. I finally sold my 7900X and picked up a 7800X3D. So far itâs been a good experience, very easy to keep cool
7800x3d is the all around better gaming cpu. No clue why he would switch to something that runs hotter and performs less đ€·ââïž
AMD has notorious low FPS drops in games like Warzone, maybe due to loading textures in high population areas where Intel simply doesn't. Also, 7800x3d is nice for gaming, but if you're a CZcamsr making content the 13900k or 14900k is simply MILES ahead in editing. People who go Intel generally prefer stability and good 1% lows over insanely high averages (400-500+) and 80fps in the 1% lows. Not saying your experience won't be different, but in my general experience with AMD, 1% lows have been atrocious and makes high refresh-rate gaming a chore. Intel is way more plug and play and atleast in this generation also has way better support for high-end DDR5. 14900k OCed and 8000mhz is peak gaming right now.@@fallenlegion1828
Question: These games are tested in Native, w/o DLSS ON correct? Thats really INSANE getting those fps numbers then..
This means that any game that has yet to come out in the future wich might be poorly optimized, you just slap on DLSS and call it a day?
Meaning the 4090 will at least be good for another what, 4+ years..? đ
0:23 my new year's resolution is 2560 x 1440p IPS, G-SYNC, FREESYNC 240HZ IPS 0.1 ms gtg đ
I love it! Thanks for sharing!
I notice you did not test the RTX 4090 with the most demanding games like Cyberpunk 2077 and Alan Wake 2. At the same time I find wanting to run a game native, especially at 4K, is not smart at all. I would always turn on DLSS Quality for better performance and in most of cases it even looks better than native with the AA that's being used.
Are these benchmarks comparable to what might be seen on ultra wide?
Expect more fps and less power consumption

@@AshtonCoolman a nice build.
The 4090 will be "good" for more than just 4 more years of gaming đ pc gamers have such skewed outlook on hardware. Like if it doesn't get 200 fps on the latest title with EVERY tech gimmick turned on, it is useless suddenly. Cmon. That's a 2 thousand dollar card. You guys need to relax. My 3080 hasn't struggled with a single thing I've thrown at it. Still. I know people still rocking 980tis and 1080tis that are fine also. Pc gamers are the biggest whales of all time. Mentally ill.
Though, i gotta admit, i can be just as bad. I'm currently saving for my 50(90)? If they make one, or 5080 if they don't. So, yeah. I can't talk. But the 2 year generational gap has us pc gamers mentally and financially out of pocket, man. Wish they'd just take 4 years, have bigger generational performance leaps, so we whales can atleast enjoy our ridiculous purchases a little longer, and recover in the wallet too.
Current 3080 TI owner. My next GPU is a 5080.
A lot of "optimized" games tend to use baked lighting with little to no GI.
That is why the framerate is so high.
Games that suffer from bad memory management or leaks, shader comp stutters and traversal stutters I personally consider as badly optimized.
I wonder how many people will be like ''nah am not playing that it uses baked lighting'' no body freaking cares if the game is good its good, if its bad its bad
I should've bought it on launch
Me too. I went another route. Sold that card. Lost money. Then bought a 4090 lol. I would have saved money by buying at launch.

Great job benchmarking all these games without the use of any upscaling to actually show what the card does. should have paired it with 7800x3d
I just got one, years later since the release and I hope to never buy a graphics card for a while.
This are well done benchmarks, enough with GTA V, CS GO and the shooter that makes like 600 fps that i dont remember the name.

I understand leaving Ray Tracing on or off based on the games defaults. That said, it would have been helpful knowing which ones had it on or off?
I listed it in the yellow text. It said (RT) to the far right.
â @@ErockOnTechI missed that, thanks for the reply. Your point about optimization is even more true when looking at RT. Games like RE4 and Forza had RT on, while having higher frame rates. Then some games like Hogwarts and Starfield had RT disabled and much worse frame rates while not looking particularly good.
@@richardbixler No problem. Happy to help! Yes, those games with RT prove that a game can look and play amazingly at the same time with proper optimization.
Yep 4090 is a beast but 4080 is also. Both card is so powerful that you can skip 5000 series because like always only 5080/5090 will be stronger than 4000 series. But when 4090 canât run new games in nativ 4k ultra above 60 fps still you can use DLSSQ even with FG. And image quality will be as good like nativ and you get a lot more FPS:-)
You donât really see benchmarks for every new release so not a bad idea
Iâm glad you think so! Thank you!
whats ur case ?
to be honest,.. i always asked why AAA game developer make game with so high requirement to be enjoyed in max setting? its the problem in the hardware? or is the game itself?
I would say itâs a bit of both. On the lower end of hardware, you do have to accept that the hardware has limitations and that means some things will not run as well. The 3050 and 4060 are good examples of this. However, when you have the fastest gaming hardware that money can buy; it tends to be a game issue.
â@@ErockOnTech ,.. im always confused on what cpu AAA dev used,.. and why normal player with mid range on this gen have to be struggle playing AAA game that release several past year? is this realy improvement of tech? and the price already becoming nonsense on 40xx series,.. why AAA game need fake ai frame generation like dssl? why we cant enjoy the game with max setting in native resolution? sorry im not supper nerd about hardware,.. im using 3070 and im still failing to understand the need frame gen in gaming and me personaly never find satisfiiyng answer abou this topic

Extremely detailed and complex hogwarts legacy scene: "THE 45FPS LOWS ARE ATROCIOUS!!!!" //// 5 seconds later Lies of P with half the geometry and detail: "100FPS 1% LOWS AMAZING!!!!" Somehow failing to realize they're both 50% of the average FPS value. The 1% lows being 50% of the average is "unoptimized" in one game but "optimized" in another simply because the second game is less demanding on the whole, ok lol. You're a funny guy.
I have the 4070 ti and am able to game at 4k with games like BG3 and RDR2.
Thatâs fantastic!
You are getting cpuu limited in Hogwarts. Get a 7800X2D for open world games and racing/flying sims. I had a 13900k and was getting stutters and dropouts in MSFS and Hogwarts. Upgraded to a 7800X3d and the experience is smooth as can be. Intel CPUs just arent cutting it for these types of games with the 4090.
Comment before watching:
I bought a 4090 for 1560⏠and I did it because of impending desaster.
Everything else was way too short on VRAM (I use Ai from time to time) or just not worth going for the upsell.
I wanted a 7900XTX for sub 900âŹ, but it never got there and the Models have been lacking in Build-Quality anyway.
So 7900XTX upsold me after 8 Month of waiting to the 4080 (because of Ai again), and that upsold me to the 4090 because VRAM and pure power.
I run the 4090 at mostly 50% power cap and it runs everything I want at a steady Framerate and at 4k. I cap FPS for most Games because Strategy does not need 300fps (60FPS for me), and Games like Assassins Creed at 90FPS. I run my online First Person Shooter uncapped but thats about it. Otherwise I mod Skyrim and FO4 and they run great at the 60FPS cap.

You have hit an unrealistic kings kiss. When the 1% lows of the Dead Space Remake is above 60fps. Maybe some nuance but um??? uh???.... Your saying its not good enough right? Its sounds implied. Its not Alan wake 2 path traced or any of the crysis games with way higher avg response time. Its odd that the Avatar game is considered a vram hog. Its slightly above avg in my eyes. Its not like its reaching 20gb ov vram. All things considered. That 14700k is a steal for roughly $400 to fuel that 4090. From what I understand. The 4090 bottlenecks every cpu out right now. You wonder why frame generation is needed. That's the reason. PC gaming to me was always about pushing hardware to its limits. I just grow weary of possible unrealistic standards of criticism. As of late.
Avg of a 100fps at 4k ultra for a 2000$ gpu is honestly bad. Some newer games around 80fps , cant even match a 144hz monitor. Maybe at 1440p it could match 144hz+.
Iâm almost 100% sure that he did not tweak anything on his pc..
Yeah, the 4090 is still a better 1440p GPU than a 4k one. By 2025, the 4090 will be lucky to hit native 4k60fps in newer titles. High refresh 4k GPUs don't exist yet.
@@jjlw2378 maybe pcie 5.0 will bless us

Let's be honest, every CPU bottlenecks the RTX 4090, including the i7 14700K and Ryzen 7800x3D. Why am I saying this? Because with Intel's and AMD's next generation CPU's (Arrow Lake) and (Zen 5) expect to get more FPS with the RTX 4090, even if it's just a 5-7 FPS difference, that still shows you CPU's are limiting this behemoth of a card, even at 4K.

As a graphics card, the 4090 is great. If it wasn't for the cost and that dangerous connector, I would think about it. I could buy a good 2nd hand car for the price of a 4090, I can't justify spending that sort of money on a card that'll be old tech in 12 months. I hope Intel or AMD shake up the GPU rip off market as soon as possible. The 4090 GPUs were at 1,500, so clearly the high price is being jacked up by 'someone', I might opt for a 4080 super as an upgrade assuming the price is sensible, if the 4080 super starts at 1,500 then I'll refuse to be ripped off and wait. If end users refused to buy cards at silly prices you can bet the prices would soon come down.
Thats weird, i get over 100fps (around 150) easily on Hogwarts maxed with my 4090.
65fps on rem2???? I get 150+ again. Bro i think your 4090 is fked up lmfao. Btw i run everything max and 4k (4k 240hz monitor).
There's no way you get 150 FPS at 4K max settings with RT in Hogwarts Legacy. You are definitely using upscaling and frame gen to hit even close to that. At native 4K max settings with RT in Hogwarts Legacy, the 4090 gets around 60 FPS average. In Remnant 2 at native 4K max settings, it's around 75-85 FPS average. 150+ FPS at 4K max settings in Remnant 2 and Hogwarts Legacy is just impossible without upscaling and frame gen.

Why are gpus the only thing that goes up in price over time after it's release
My best guess is that itâs the most popular PC component.
After settling for mid range cards since gaming on PC (gtx 680, gtx 1070, and 6700xt) i finally decided to get the best of the best. The 4090 is awesome and now I have fallen for the Ngreedia trap and will rather save for the best cards than settle for mid range cards.
What are your specs?
@MrAnimescrazy I have currently a 17 13700k with a 4090 coming from an i5 6600k 6700xt.
@@TheSoxor123 wow that is a huge upgrade.
This is the real power of the card, which is 60 frames Nvidia's trick lies in the DLS The funny thing about the whole thing is that all these expensive computer parts end up giving you the same frames that you can get on a device with lower specifications and by simply reducing the settings and you don't even feel that there is a difference.
Might as well wait for the 50 series at this point to upgrade. That'll be the card to use for GTA 6 PC.

Rockstar releases its games on console first and one year later for PC
Thank you for this video but when you stated "Native 4k" which is the "kryptonite" of these new generation cards I held my breath. Unfortunately it seems more and more video cards will be stepping away from "Native Rasterization" and more towards A.I. based upscaling. If you look at the industry, Nvidia's CEO said not to long ago that they were not a Graphic Card company anymore but an A.I. Company and AMD is following suit with their MI300 card. Gamers will be getting the scraps that are left on the table after these A.I. cards are made. So I expect the 5090 to be somewhat better than the 4090 but mainly at upscaling not native rasterization. There is an industry shift and these game developers need to adhere and adjust to these changes, for ages game developers have taken their sweet time to adopt new technologies such as using multicore CPU's and such. After many years of having a 1080Ti Sli rig I finally made the jump to a 4090, yes its faster but not $1700 or $2200 faster. The only way you can justify such an expense is the multitude of A.I. based tools Nvidia gives you for video production and broadcast that are available to the 4090. Windows 12 will supposedly use all these A.I. benefits like the A.I. cores found in your Intel and AMD processor and hopefully the tensor cores of your Nvidia cards, but time will tell.
Probably an unpopular move here. But i sold my 4090 last week on ebay for 1800 dollars. I bought on launch day. So i decided to give amd a try (my 1st amd gpu) went with the 7900xtx playing at 4k. Im enjoying this card much more than i did my 4090. The software is a million times better and for some reason my games feel smoother despite having less fps.
Though the 4090 is faster. Its not that much faster. At least in the games i play. Im surprised how great this card has been. And i ended up making money in the end which is great đ
Alan Wake 2 < 60 fps
Unlock the hidden max setting on avatar and test again
If you play on PC and run games on anything else than ultra and you have hardware that can handle that ultra settings, you definitely should play on console, there you have cutted settings in standardđ
Welcome to reality, the time have changed. If you want to play at 4k max settings u just have to buy a new card every generation. ( went through the math, considering the price increase from the msrp from 3090 to 4090 the 5090 is going to cost more than 2k, that would be about 2,74 Euros a day for 730 days, but since the 5090 will draw like 650w, the maintance costs are worlds higher in countries outside the Great USA). xdd
I agree with the beginning of your statement but I'm not convinced that the 5090 will actually cost more than $2k.
If the 5090 has an increased MSRP USD, itâll like be $100 more. Thatâs what happened with the 3090. The 3090 was $1499. The 4090 is $1599 launch MSRP. So the 5090 may be $1699. But that is just a guess.
Alan Wake 2 missing
Yes I debated heavily on this. Itâs exclusive to the Epic Games store and honestly that really bothers me. I donât like investing into games on that store. If it were absolutely necessary for me to buy it for this video, then I would have. However, this video is not for âall games in 2023.â Itâs just using games that only released in 2023.
ErockOnTech : the problem is that the RTX 4090 are still dying / self melting due to faulty factory design of the 12-pin PWR connector. Around 80 % of them are melting their own 12-pin connectors and around 50 % have to RMA-d due to melting death of the PWR circuitry.
That is absurdity. Those numbers are astronomically wrong and don't represent reality in any way, shape, or form. It's probably 1-3% at most.
The fuck are you on about, nvidia made a statement saying it was a 0.3 percent rate on top of their expected failure
@@wazaagbreak-head6039 oh yes, if Nvidia states that, then it must be true. They aren't lying, right ? Despite the fact that they are directly responsible for underdesigning this crap of a 12-pin connector....

If you spend 2k on a GPU you should be able to expect to set a game to Ultra settings and forget about it.
Yes but if you arent getting the frames you want then you have to lower the settings or drop the resolution.
for me the dangerous connector which has been an on going issue for 4090 is biggest no no and risk on all of 40xx GPU range you are in effect rolling dice and roll snake eyes you end up with house burn down not worth risk
$2000 card that burns the connector and kills itself lol
A small percentage.
4090 is still pretty OP, but lets be honest it is a cut down from what the leaks were saying, the thing I and talking about first and foremost is the 72MB(4080 was supposed to get that) of cache instead of 96 which was the rumoured amount and the much lower powerlimit.
when I bought an 4090(the crappiest and cheapest one of them for 2400âŹ, wz was the "it" game for me, loved tha fact that instead of getting 220-260fps at 1080p low with 3080ti, I could now get 340-390fps at max settings and there fore actually maxing out my monitor.
Still so funny to see that the 4090 is so cpu bottlenecked at 1080p and even at 1440p.
But yea, pretty cringy that such an expensive gpu can only deliver double digit fps figures, almost feels like back in 90s and early 00 but at 3 to 4 times the price of the gpu instead.
I have already an RTX 4080. But I hope I will have a kidney transplant I am waiting for 14 years, wish me luck.
That card sre stupid for everything under 4k so basically you will not get nothing more fps on 1440p or 1080p with 4090 then with 7900xtx in most of games especially ea sports online ones
Any gameplay below 144Hz on a 4K resolution doesn't deliver the smooth experience I expect. While 60Hz might be acceptable on consoles, the PC standard is set at 144Hz. Despite the RTX 4090 performing well in comparison to current and past cards, if it struggles to consistently maintain 144Hz at 4K on high settings, I question the justification for a price tag exceeding $1,000. As an owner of an RTX 4090 FE, I believe no GPU should surpass that price point.
The beauty of pc is that there is no standard. I like supersampling so I play at 60fps on a 4K TV in 5K or 6K depending on the game. Forza 2023 with no RT runs at 8K 60 locked in every race I've played so far. You can force statistically perfect frame pacing with front edge sync(async is default) with RTSS.
Maybe for competitive first person shooters? Otherwise 144 hz is definitely not a standard for most graphically intensive single player games.
Sure, whether it adheres to your standard or not is inconsequential. My point remains unchanged, Mr. Correction.
144 hz is not a standard for PC gaming lmao.
It's only a competitive standard for Esports titles
In terms of achieving smooth gameplay, 144Hz is considered the standard for me, I guess. Anything below this may not deliver the same level of smoothness. It's important to note that 143Hz is still smooth, lol. For those using a controller, a range of 60 to 120Hz is generally satisfactory. However, speaking from my personal experience on PC, using a mouse feels less smooth below 144Hz. Keep in mind, this is just my opinion.@@hatzgionule8037
The fact that the 4090 is struggling with a few games shows that we definitely need a massive upgrade in a few years. Games are getting too advanced and they arent as well optimized
It's all about optimization, 100%. Also, let's be honest, every CPU bottlenecks the RTX 4090, including the i7 14700K and Ryzen 7800x3D.
I don't foresee myself paying $2k for a video card...
...having said that, I won't say "never", but highly unlikely
4090 is the most crappy card ever made. Don't buy rubbish. Skip that. Too much problems with a card for THAT money. My 3090Ti works perfect. 4090.... just check how many issues people have. We should not play with our PC so much to run THE BEST gpu... It's a joke from NVIDIA. There's a big problem how electricity works in this card in general.
Ahh yes the 2,300$ gpu. Costs literally the same as my 7900xtx 7800x3d cl30 32gb 6000mhz ddr5 ram, h9 flow, 12 case fans, b650 aorus elite ax 990pro 2tb ssd build

Yeah I didnât pay that for the card and I wouldnât. The price is ridiculous. Itâs ridiculous at $1599 which is the USD MSRP. But itâs more tolerable. The moment a GPU touches $2,000+ Iâm out.
The 4080 super series if confirmed to only be 5% faster than the standard 4080. It's basically a "safely" overclocked 4080. , it's just. Oc'd from factory. Sorry to disappoint.
