  • 🏁 Is Mick Schumacher's Return to Formula 1 sooner than we think? 🚗 In this video, we dive deep into the exciting prospects of Mick Schumacher making a comeback in Formula 1, potentially with the Alpine team in 2025! 🌟 We'll explore why Mick's chances for 2024 seem limited, the intriguing link between his sports car experience and Alpine's World Endurance Championship (WEC) team, and how his success in WEC could open doors to Alpine's F1 squad, which is undergoing significant changes. Don't miss out on the inside scoop about Mick's path back to the pinnacle of motorsport! 🎥
With Alpine looking like a team in flux, could Mick Schumacher's test for them and their WEC team for the 2024 season be the stepping stone to the French team signing the German son of Michael Schumacher to their F1 outfit for 2025, after the silly season of Formula 1 where Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon could find Formula One seats elsewhere or LEAVE the sport altogether? Might Mick's positive and good nature be what the team needs after their crisis packed history? Toto Wolff and his young talent might have the best opportunity yet to get back on the grid. Forget Williams, Audi, Sauber or even Mercedes themselves - we could see a repeat of Ocon 2020.

Mick overdrove the car during quali and practice, but he drives consistently when it matters, i.e. during races. He had a single crash during a race in 2022 and clearly had better race-pace than Kmag on average.
There were also some memorable moments, like his defensive driving against a 7x world champion in a far superior car in Austria and him fighting Verstappen in a RB with damaged aero. Gasly will stay, Mick has 0 chance at Alpine. Consider that Mick is also closely tied to Toto, whose stock is rapidly dwindling and whose other supported drivers (DeVries, Ocon) have ALSO been lacklustre or failed this season. Mick's only shot is in Sauber, and they have Bottas, and Pourchaire on the horizon. Earliest i could see Mick in Sauber is 2025 after Bottas' contract ends and that would be 4 years removed form his last time in an F1 car...
Ocon's time in F1 came to an end once and i suspect it's about to again. His off-track antics and arrogance are reaching unacceptable levels. Other drivers seem to be making more and more comments about avoiding alpines but specifically talking about Ocon. @@thebateman761

I can't see Alpine looking past its huge number of juniors, Doohan and Martins to name a couple. F1 to WEC back to F1 is unheard of, and I think Mick going there pretty much spells the end of his F1 career. MSC turned up in F1 as the product of the Mercedes Young Driver Sports Car programme along with HH Frentzen and they were both *Quick ! It is a well known fact that this was the phase of MSC career that made him into the machine that he became in F1.
Romain Grosjean got bounced out of F1 and won GT1 in a Ford GT before returning to GP2 (Champion) and returning to F1 where he scored multiple podiums and was fundementally fast.
The point is that the top tier of sportscar racing is going to be an epic battleground over the next decade and I would expect to see a regular two way exchange of drivers between F1 and top tier Sportscar racing.
For a young driver like Mick the restraint, teamwork, race management and engineering knowledge that he will gain over and above purely single seater racing could prove invaluable. Racing is about so much more than sitting in a car and being quick.
I dont think we have seen the last of Mick in F1, I think there is a plan in place (masterminded by Toto) to build him back up.

Mick Schumacher will need a lot more than just "a bit of luck" and top performance in (a lesser class of) the WEC to get back into F1. If Sauber doesn't find a quick solution for "their boy" Théo Pourchaire (who is poised to win the Formula 2 championship this year, Vesti would need a miracle to catch him in Abu Dhabi) I can see him at Alpine in 2025.
And Sauber seems to be "locked" at the moment, Audi probably want to keep Joe Gungho in that car (VW Group being the #2 car importer in China, Audi #4), so what to do with young Théo?

There's no reason why Alpine should fire either of them, and even if they did Mick Schumacher would be a downgrade. I can see either of them being quite open to moving to another team though. Not only are there 5 teams looking better than them but Alpine are probably second only to Haas in terms of looking like they are going somewhere higher than they are.
And yes, the chance of one of them getting a seat at the top 4 is quite damn slim but I suppose Aston will need at least 1 driver soon. And that would likely be between someone who they are competitive with. Even Alfa, I do think the Audi hype is pretty silly since they are going to take a while to get somewhere but someone in a mid field team or a second driver is in a spot where a risk like that can pay off.

I don't agree that Haas isn't a good team for a rookie. Well, at least if said rookie has natural talents. True talents shine no matter what team they start with. Mick's father debuted with Jordan. Senna with Toleman. Leclerc with Sauber. Alonso with Minardi. In all cases the flashes of brilliance were obvious to everyone. In Mick's case? Not so much. You know who else was a rookie that year? Zhou Guanyu. How much better was he compared to Mick? Try 5 podiums and 140 points. In 2020, when Mick did win the F2 championship, he barely did so by 14 points (Callum Ilott had a chance if he won the last feature race of the season). Compare that with Oscar's 60.5 point advantage a year later... as a a rookie! In his F2 championship year, Mick won TWO races out of 24 races. Oscar a year later? SIX wins out of 23 races. Both Russell and Leclerc won 7 in their F2 championship year as rookies. Drugovich won 5. Lawson won 4 w/o even winning the championship.
So no, I don't think Mick is anywhere near Leclerc, Russell or Piastri. He had a 2 year chance in F1 and was... meh. Before I see Mick return to F1, I would prefer to see Drugovich get a chance. Or Robert Shwartzman. Or Alex Palou. Or Frederik Vesti.

The Alpine operation has been a bit of a shithouse in recent months; and if the current F1 team's state of affairs is any indication, it doesn't spurn much confidence for the WEC side.
And while the WEC operation is still an unknown quantity, the Alpine LMDh is running the same Mecachrome V6 that's infamously unreliable in F2, albeit with a second turbo so there's even more to go wrong, and in a sport where reliability & longevity are paramount for success, it's a questionable at best powertrain choice.

There's nothing unknown about the WEC operation, it's being run by Signatech, as it has been for the last 10 years. Agreed with the Mecachrome engine though, definitely a worry for reliability.

In my opinion people need to stop pretending that mick is a better driver than he is, sure his first season he had an awful car but his second season exposed him,
he should of been on magnussens level ( a guy who jad a year out of F1 remember) but he wasn't,
the thing I often see people overlook is that he wasn't only dropped by Haas but also Ferarri. Ferrari could of easily put him into their LMH car like they did with Giovinazzi, but instead they dropped him
Much like Gutierrez I don't know why Mercedes picked him up, maybe its because of the link from Michael being part of the team or maybe Toto can see what I can't in Mick
I like mick and I do want him to succeed but he isnt an F1 level driver

I think he needs one more season at a team that doesn't hound him. Like Checo is dealing with right now.

@@LawVS I agree, his first season was a writeoff, and I think every rookie deserves 2 seasons, but I've never been impressed with mick, maybe a different team would help him and something could click, but I think his time in F1 is over

Schumacher deserves a seat. He wasn’t given the time to develop at haas. In 2021 , he DESTROYED his teammate, in 2022 he lost to a very experienced teammate and had a few crashes along the way these things happen when you commit to a young driver!

Exactly. One more year. If he can't hack it in F1 then then so be it.

@@JMRope Mazepin was his only metric and as such, his closest comparison. We all know Mazepin was bad, but an f1 diver’s only job is to beat their teammate. If they do that, their seat should be safe.

    • @JMRope

@@kyleferguson2245 I'm not disputing that. He was better than Mazepin, no doubt. But you claimed he destroyed Mazepin and I don't agree. George Russell destroyed Latifi, another driver who was not really good enough for F1 but certainly no worse than Mazepin. Lando Norris destroyed Ricciardo, a multi race winner. Sure those two examples did not happen in the rookie season for those drivers but Mazepin was also a rookie and he out qualified Mick six times I think it was. Merely being good isn't enough to make it in F1.

There are so many other drivers who deserve an F1 shot before we get back to Mick. If we're trying to get the top 20 drivers in the world onto the grid, others should be looked at fierst. Is Mick even a top 50 driver? Could he get a top indycar seat with Penske or Ganassi? No, so why bother?

I just feel that Mick is being touted by Toto and his time at Mercedes will be critical. After all, Alpine approached them to test instead of the other way around which is a huge plus.
