Try to find a 4 by 8 piece of carpet and bond that to a piece of thin plywood. It makes it a load nicer when working on grass.

Love your videos man. I just purchased a boat with a late 70's 115 merc tower same as yours. I went to replace the impeller, and when I removed the lower unit, the "shift shaft" spline stayed the upper unit of the engine. I tried re installing the lower unit many times and I can't get it to shift now, it just stays in forward gear. Any suggestions?

Neutral and Neutral. If you are having getting it back up into the hole, you may need to rotate the flywheel a bit to mesh the gears on the top of the shaft. How far off is it from going all the way back in?

Hey, I have the same motor and am having trouble getting the lower unit on with proper shift alignment. It shifts fine with the lower unit loosly bolted on but as soon as i tighten it down those 2 rubber things on lower unit shift shaft get pushed together and lock things up. Do you have a picture with proper orientation of those 2 rubber things? Any help would be awesome.

I have a 1975 1500 Mercury 150 s/l 6. Got the motor running just fine other then the idle bring a bit high. My deal is the remote control box. I have to use the high idle bar and the throttle to get the prop to move forward and the same in rev. Don't really know what's up with that.
