I know this video is old now, but I really appreciate the time you take to go over details and your desire to teach us as well
It may be old, but I'm still around. I had a very fortunate opportunity for someone to teach and share with me. The only thing he ever asked was for me to share it for others.
@@cturboaddict in that case I will subscribe
I just barely bought an avenger with a mercury 1500 and this video helped me a lot about getting everything a part did you post the video about rebuilding the carburetors?
I have an mercury 1150 1978 I car yet to start it seems to have compression. I literally know nothing about mine so this helped alot. Thanks for the video. Might just get mine running try too anyway!😂
Bunch of vids on my channel about this motor, good luck!!
Still using this video till this day! Appreciate every detail you out into these videos
That's awesome!!
Just bought a boat with the Tower of Power! I'm sure your videos will be invaluable in getting it started!
Right on
Just bought a bass boat with one of these motors. Sucker flys.
Just got a Glasspar boat with a 1968 115 Tower of Power. I'm sure glad to have found your videos. This motor hasn't run in 7 years, and wires and hoses are all hard as a rock. Your videos will be monumental in replacing stuff. Thanks for uploading them!!!
Comprei uma lancha com esse motor parado a 18 anos mais está funcionando bem minha dificuldade está sendo a bomba d'água
just bought a 1973. I was told it runs, if not, I like working on things, being retired. Thanks for the info.
Thanks for this video!!! I took my carbs off by 115HP about 5 years ago and didn't have my pics that I took for reference anymore. After buying new bolts, nuts and fuel lines... I couldn't remember how the tubes ran on the small nipples on the carbs.
Luckily... Your vid showed me the way bro!!! :) Can't thank you enough! Major save there!
Thanks again.
Recently bought a 1962 Alumacraft Queen Merrie, came with a 1971 Mercury 1150 that needs some love. Your videos are concise and straight to the point, fantastic job! Going to start by rebuilding the wiring harness, it's pretty rough, but your videos are WAY better than the service manual! Cheers mate!
Good luck, and cool boat!
that pouch in the front cover Is for your emergency pull rope for starting if your battery is dead .I've needed mine lol
Great video you explain things in straight terms and very thoroughly share more like this excellent job
im completely rebuilding one . you are my hero.. there doesnt seem to be many towers of power around here in wales.you guys are my only reference. thanks for being helpful.
Sure bud. I've got a bunch of videos on disassembly and reassembly.
yessir i have had a good browse . you truly are a great person for sharing knowledge with others, nice work man really great teaching.
very grateful
dan
Thanx for the vid,Just got my first boat.Has this same setup. It’s a 78. So really appreciate it dude
I've got quite a few vids on this motor. Good luck and have fun!
Thank you for the straight up presentation. I'm dealing with the same issues on the exact motor you have addressed so I appreciate your video!! Good work...
Thanks Again! I have subscribed and have learned So Much! Since the last 2 months I have been to 2 different mechanics with 2 different diagnosis. First place told me I had a bad switch box, 2nd told me bad trigger! After watching your test video and purchasing a manual, along with a little trial and error, new gas and spark plugs I now have brought my Tower of Power to Life!!! Without a new switch box, and without a new trigger!! Needless to say, Engine runs Great!!! Thanks Again!!!
New sub. Great vid. Gonna see what others you have. Just bought a field find 1975 raysoncraft 16ft with original 1250. These vids are very helpful ✌
No problem. I couldn't find much info on these when I first started working on them, so essentially I tried to document everything that I could.
Really appreciate the videos and explanations. I was just gifted a 1975 Mako 19' with a 1977 Mercury 1150 with factory tilt/trim. Boat was sitting in a driveway in NW Missouri for 6 years. Checked compression by turning flywheel by hand and am planning to take off lower unit, change water pump, plugs, clean carbs, hook up a new battery and see what happens. Thanks again!
Kelly Horn Sounds like fun!!! You're not too far from me. I work in St Louis.
I have a thunderbolt 850, 4 cylinder version of yours. Thanks for the video, following along as I get mine into shape. I’ve ordered a new engine side harness and new battery cables and fuel barb. I’ll for sure have more confidence tearing into this thing with your help.
Plenty of vids on my channel about it. Feel free to ask any questions. I'll do my best to help.
Very Helpful! I have recently purchased a 1971 Checkmate MX-18 with a 1975 Mercury 150 hp. After replacing the starter and charging the battery, I've come to realize that I have No Spark to any cylinder. The gentleman I purchased it from told me that it did run last year but was having trouble getting it to plane out. I am also new to the whole outboard engine repair thing so, I really Appreciate the info you've shared!! Thank You!
Hi John Henry.
I also just purchased an old 1500 (150HP) 1975 as well. Now I've had boats in the past and currently am swapping out a 115 HP - though it is a 1990's Merc outboard. Anyway I have a very simple question for you and it may seem a bit dumb - but where does the fuel line connect on the 1500 motor - there does not seem to be a fuel line connector on my motor anywhere ???
Thanks for your or anyone else's help on this and pictures help me allot as well.
Chris
Just got a 1985 glasstream V17 bass boat with a 115 on it. this is my first boat so i am stoked about it. I had to put it in the shop they replaced plugs and some fuel lines and did a on the water idel and card adjust for me. the wife and I took it out on the Tenn. river today and man this is cool!
I like older things so I would like to learn how to wrench on it myself. thanx for the vids!
I've got tons of vids on repair work to them. Thanks for watching, feel free to subscribe
I had a 1968 mercury 65 horse that had a pull start cord in a pouch, good luck pulling it!
Your videos are helping me big time with my 78 115hp.
Thanks
That's why I do it bud!!! Glad to hear that!!!!
I also have a 78 but 90hp
These videos are really helpful. I just got me a 1979 Mercury 1150, same as yours and will attempt to get it overhauled, and will use your videos as reference, thank you for putting this out there!
I have alot bud. There is a teardown and rebuild as well. Lots of tricks in these videos bud. That's why I did it! Have fun, it's not hard and ask questions if you need to.
Thx... Bought a boat with a 1500 (not sure of year), it runs but needs work. I plan on rebuilding it myself and your videos will be a great source of info... Again thx
Great vid. I just bought one !! I can't wait to get it running!!
thank you so much for doing a video on rebuilding these things, i couldnt find another one on here anywhere
Started on my Tower of Power today. Btw that pouch holds a start rope
You are the man! Just picked up a little Ranger Aztec with the exact same outboard. Been looking for some help with it. Definitely subscribing
Sure thing bud... I'm on here all the time and have a bunch of videos to watch!!! Bascially watching your could tear down and rebuild. LOL
brings back good memories. i built a couple of these and even more of the 75s.
I had mine rebuilt by an outfit on the east coast , on the corner coast between Maine and Massachusetts. I forgot the name. The distributor is the Achilles heel of these motors. There are like 10 guys in the USA that know these things. I paid big bucks to get a the motor freshener. Haven’t run it in 6 years due to being butchered 10 times to get a new knee, actually 4 knees.
yeah man good video, well explained, like the way you go through step by step it's alot of help for us not so mechanicaly minded newbies new to this,i have a 115 HP but looks the same, was hoping you would explain the distributor cables as i had much trouble with them, and just at the end of your vid you did .WELL DONE
ahh..so I could run a water presser gauge with it than..I kinda thought that's what it was ..but couldn't find it anywhere in my "selcoservice manual". .so went to the merc guru..you!!..thanks ..I'll send a video of it running..she purrs like a kitten..allmost like it was right out of the crate in 78..can't wait to get her out in the lake..peace !
It's hard finding much info on these, great videos and thanks I'm going to look into rebuilding my fuel pump and checking my stator, I cant get it to go over 3000 rpm runs great but just dont want to go more than that every once and a while I can get it to 3200, my motor is a 90hp 900 serial 5160845 I've rebuilt carbs, took to shop have the timing set good compression, I've heard that maybe a failing fuel pump wont get fuel to the top 2 cylinders. Hope you see this and and for your time
I'm having this exact same issue! Did you ever get it figured out?
@@AtlantaMetal I haven't I've gone through everything new wire harness rebuilt fuel pump put a new used distributor on it and that I think was part of the problem it runs really smooth now took to lake yesterday and on the trailer it seemed to be perfect started driving and it would have a spurt of power then takes forever to plane I did the link and sync got it to go from 3000 to 4000rpm that's set at 20°, I feel the link and sink sounds easy and looks like a brainer but maybe I'm doing somthing wrong I'm about to give up idk what else to do everything checks out
Great video - thank you!
The pouch in the face plate held a rope w/ handle so you could pull start it. Yes it's possible to pull start it lol.
The bottom spark plug can be taken out with ease with an open end, or box end wrench. To take the belly pan off, requires separating the engine block from the mid tower
Just bought the same exact motor for an 86 glasstron, the wiring harness and wiring need redone, also need to run the wiring from the throttle to the motor and get the throttle mounted. I also have to figure out the wiring for the reverse control system, bought the boat and motor for 150, couldn’t pass it up.
Some help or suggestions with the wiring would be very helpful
Cdi sells the harness you need.
Thanks for the Vids, Much Appreciated.
Thanks this is so helpful,I was wondering if you have any vids on rebuilding carbs on a 1985 mercury 115.
I've got a 1978 Mercury 140hp. The copper water tube is bent out of round where it contacts the water pump. I purchased a replacement tube but don't know how to remove the bent one and install the new one. I have the plastic bushing that goes on the power head end of the tube also. Any advice would be appreciated.
Also do you know what the rubber hose that comes from block to a t into block then up to another 90 degree fitting into the block, right next to the fuel lines for the carbs on the front, thought maybe for mixing the oil maybe, I premix
you can find the tnt on eBay for a pretty reasonable price. i don't know where you are but theres a guy in north carolina that lives breaths and sleeps mercury inline 6's, you can get rings, pistons, bearings, gaskets, i mean EVERYTHING even whole powerheads for a pretty reasonable price bc he has sooooo many parts, i swear that man is preparing for the inline 6 mercury apocalypse, he has atleast five motors just like yours
Excellent Video series! I'm trying to rewire a 1971 Merc 500. Wire insulation crumbling off everywhere. Can't figure out how to remove the front bracket to get to all of the wires without messing something up. The motor starts and runs but I'm afraid to run it with the wires in such bad shape. Any help would be appreciated. Also, the mercury switch wiring is gone. Is it needed to run?
Merc switch is not needed to run. But it is a safety item. It's designed to not be able to start the motor in full tilt with the blade out of the water. You're own discretion.
I would replace all the wires personally, that's what I did.
I have this motor! I need to remove the head to replace the gasket, do you have a video of removing this part?
I have water leaking at the base of the spark plugs... I figure the water jacket seal is compromised...
Sweet, this should be interesting.
Have a 115 HP Tower of Power and cleaned out the carbs, tank, fuel pump & lines.... Got her where she idles great however as soon as you try to put in gear and go she bogs down barely breaking 4 MPH.... Any tips appreciated
Joseph Greenwich Have you checked the timing? Search my youtube name and Link and Sync
i need the mercury switch that comes off the trigger wires that bolts to the motor frame work. im having trouble finding one thank you
Hi, Im enjoying you video, been doing some work myself tnx to your video, question plse, I ran my engine, same as yours, without oil in the fuel, engine died but I can still move the flywheel by hand, technicians says will cost NZ$4000 to fix, Im not sure that Ill the piston assembly and all bearings etc need replacing, your thoughts on what I should focus on replacing?
Well, expensive lesson learned ehh? I'd put the proper fuel mixture in there and see if you can start it.
Hey do you know what what the rod crankshaft end bolt sides are ? I am having a problem with taking the con rods off the crankshaft
They have a nut on them... LOL Are they not popping loose? If so, A rubber mallet or soft faced deadblow are your best friend. I do have another vid of disassembly! Or if you need a photo or video of one disassembled, I have one to show. Just let me know bud!
madsonicboating make sure u check those floats!
Hello, do you have anything on the electrical system for this motor? I have replaced the trigger and need some help timing it. How did you do it and is it difficult?
I have a 78 115 mercury engine got spark going to the spark plugs how do I check to spray starter fluid so it could turn on. It turns but like if no gas is going through it so it could turn on
the motors are identical..except mine has a brass plug in the center in between the 6 spark plugs..as the spare is using it as the telltale hose..and has the top plugged.the serial numbers say they are both from 1978..anyway I did a (twice )cold compression test last nite and they are as follows 100#1-120#-2#120#3#4-120-120 120-6..is that good ..would I get higher if I was to put water throughout in my barrel and let it heat up to operating temp and than try .or will it be pretty much the same? also if ya ever need any parts I have a entire engine and outdrive..just letting u know. thanks bud
+Kevin Masihia Someone was running a water pressure gauge then.
Will keep that in mind, but I own 3 motors already. :)
but its like way high 4000, 5000 rpms this is my first attempt to work on outboard i couldn't even get this far if it wasn't for your video. thanks again
How do you get plug #6 threaded back in? My hand is too big. I got it off with a 13/16 wrench.
Drop the lower cowl.
I took a chance and just bought a 1976 Glasspar with this exact motor (believe it's the boat's original motor). After working through the boat's wiring issues I finally got the engine to turn over, only to find that the flywheel is stuck. Any suggestions, that don't involve a complete rebuild, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Byron Holcomb Is the motor seized??? Couple things bud. 1, Check to make sure the starter gear is not fully engaged onto the teeth of the flywheel. (Starter could be stuck, the bendix gear should drop below the teeth of the flywheel when not engaged). 2, Take the spark plugs out and soak the hell out of the cylinders with aresol sea foam or marvel mystery oil before firing.
***** The bendix gear is good and the starter "teeth" are engaging into the flywheel (it moves just a little but no farther). Was guessing either something with the gearing or a stuck piston but apparently the stuck or seized piston is the winner! Have been spraying/soaking the cylinders overnight with Corrosion Block and was planning on moving to PB Blaster. Plan on just soaking the heck out of it and trying every couple of days. Guessing the last thing I should do at this time is get a breaker bar and beat it into submission. Let me know and thanks.
Byron Holcomb Is the bendix gear disengaging? That was more or less my question... Keep spraying, you can put a 13/16 socket and rachet on the top of the motor and spin it. (Make sure to go in the correct direction of the waterpump). Make sure the controls are
in Neutral as well...
***** Well it's official, I think it is time to find a new motor. The propeller is rusted on and half of the drive shaft is rusted and the gear oil had water in it. I filled each piston with Marvel Mystery Oil and every cylinder held the oil (slowly draining) except the top, it took about 5 seconds for it to drain out of the bottom of the engine. Cutting my losses on this one and looking for a new motor; will probably part this out what I do know is good on this one. Still looking for an older Merc but I know much better now what to look for and avoid. Thanks for all your help/advice.
Byron Holcomb It's probably stuck rings on the #1... IT happened to me on mine after sitting. A simple hone and new set of rings gave me 120 comp all the way around. Good luck, and let me know if I can do anything else.
guy day what is the compression test should be ?
I do like the video very good information I do have a question on the harness on the motor how does it go back together I didn't take it apart could you help me out and get a picture of it I have a 90hp mercury and I cant wait to get it on the water lol if you cloud help me out a lot
You'll have to sit through my videos bud. I don't have a specific picture but Google may. I do have videos showing the wiring and where it goes tho.
hello i have pretty much watched all your videos on the 1150 want to say thank you. i do have some problems i cant get the idle right it very high and then drops down then back up. any help would be awesome. thanks again
Is this OUT OF THE WATER, or in the water?
👍
My throttle is a little hard to go forward and reverse. I replaced the throttle cables, but seems that the distributor and whatever is on top of it have two grease fittings. What is the recommended grease for them. I'm thinking it needs to be greased..
+luke sines Just a standard marine grease. Available just about anywhere.
hey man great video i have one but it seems siezed , shouldnt be could it be stuck in gear? the bottom/prop etc has all just been put on help?!
Did you take it apart first? Or did you buy it "stuck in gear"
@@cturboaddict it was apart and i paid a guy to assemble it again, do the water pump etc, i pulled it apart today and still cannot turn the motor with a socket on the flywheel..is there ant mechanism that could be still locking it up?
thanks for the reply
i would advise to put a hydraulic power trim on that motor, you can find them on the newer 115 or 140 inline 6's
Heyy! Great Video, thnx. Im a Novice lol & make the cardinal mistake, didn't label properly. or more-so didnt pay Full attention to the where the wires go. I have the same motor, & also a 78, 90hp. The 90 has 105/110 compression from cold compression check, so Im using a few minor parts from the 115 {unfortunately has bad/no compression} to get the 90hp going. QUESTION: Re; wiring ..EDIT* Found a diagram online. After the 90 Tower of Power is running, Im going to work on the 115. See if I can do what you are showing in your video's. Get that cylinder 3 back up etc. Thnx.. Cheerz ..~
Glad you figured it out! Ive got tons of merc videos
Hey man I’m having trouble with my steering cable how do I replace I have a mercury 1150
Gday mate. Great video. I’ve got the same motor but in the 1500. Just noticed that I have hot water coming out the pee hole? Not boiling but definitely hot to touch. A new merc I have has always cold water coming thru. Was wondering if this is normal as I havnt owned this boat for long and take notice last season. Was thinking maybe it could be the thermostat? But I can’t locate where it is and I didn’t hear you list the location in your video either? Question: does this motor have a thermostat? If so would you know where it’s located? Also is it normal for the water to be running out hot? Thanks heaps for this video. Any advise will be greatly appreciated.
Regards Al.
No thermostat. Yes, it's warm when running. Colder when on the lchance. Long as it's moving out the pee hole,, you should be good.. Safe bet is to replace the water pump when you get a chamce.
@@cturboaddict mate. Thank you very much!!!! Thank you for your prompt reply too. Cheers.
Took it for a run in the lake and the water coming thru the pee hole seem to cool down thank god. Was warmer then the lake water but not as hot as it was earlier. Not sure why it was running hot when I had the ear muffs on it thru the garden hose earlier. . But seems to be working as it should now thanks.
Hey just a another question if you don’t mind please. I thought I’d get more speed out of the engine. Been a 150hp clocked it at top speed of 60kmph ( 37mph ) my other boat with a 75merc 2005 model gets about the same speed. Was just expecting it to be faster when I purchased this boat is all.
Boat details ( if it helps ) 1970 something model 1700 Bullet.
Would there be anything that should be checked / cleaned to maximise performance?
@@Budjama might need more prop pitch and raise the motor just a bit. I got around 50mph out of my 115hp in an 18' sidewinder SS
@@cturboaddict hey do you know where I can buy I new head cover / spark plug cover? Had removed mine due to water leaking, once I removed it snapped in half due to corrosion…. Can’t seem to find any in Aus.
I have a 1978 90 hp inline 6 and when you start it up it over reves??? have any ideas? I have been thru everything!
Have you confirmed your timing? Are you sure the butterflies are fully closed with the throttle control is closed?
How different is this Mercury from a Mercury 900 90hp? A buddy of mine and I just bought 1968 Larson, 16 ft lapline and it came with a Mercury 900 90hp. Is this a good motor? It has sat for over a decade but here in Colorado it is very dry and it has never seen salt water. Should we scrap it and buy something else with something wrong (so that it doesn't cost an arm and a leg) with a problem which we know and can fix? Or stick with the Merc 900? Any advice would be great! Thanks
They are great motors. I would buy some Marvel Mystery Oil, and put it in a squirt bottle. Then pull the spark plugs and squirt directly into the spark plug holes on each cylinder. Let it soak for a day, than rotate the motor over and do it again. Run a compression test and see what your working with! BTW- It's not that different from a 900. They actually look almost identical.
scrap it.. i found a brand new 2005 150xr6 for 5k. it just wasn't worth it to rebuild my tower of power. i run lake mead NV and the river below hover dam. i need reliability. but man if you got the time they got the beer as they say. and if you get stuck where i'm at you better have a lot of beer! lol. good luck bro.
What oil do you mix with the gas? And is it 1/50 ratio mix? Thanks
J.J. Pierson any 2 stroke oil. I prefer mercury 2 stroke oil. 50:1
I have a question..I have same motor. i noticed my telltale hose connects to an elbow on top of the head....but I have a spare for parts and it has it in the Centre. .what's up with that. ?
+Kevin Masihia Probably not the same years. Some of the older motors have them in slightly different locations.
I'm ststruggling with my 150 tower of power and I don't have anyone to help with my forward and reverse / acceleration cables and the adjustment nobbs can any one help ?
What are you struggling with?
How about the water leaks around the top spark plug?? I just discovered it today on my 1984 Tower of Power 115hp. I just posted a video, maybe you can take a peak at it and tell me what you think?
@richboss302 Is there water in the cylinder????????? You may just need to put a new gasket on that cover. Has that motor ever been in salt
i just scored a cheap boat with one of these altho mine says power trim on side too...am researching to see what year mine is etc but your video is awesome! Subbed for future ref, cheers dude!
On the starboard side of the motor is a serial number. It's stamped on the side of the motor. NOTE This number (you may need a flashlight)! Then go to here to cross refrence the number to tell you what year/model it is.

***** cheers bro she's a 1977 haha bloody near same vintage as me! She fired up yesterday first time on over 6 months acording to old owner...sounded sweeeeet now just some mod's to hull and make sure she's ship shape and once new front axle made i will be water testing :)
madsonicboating Awesome! Make sure you run some sea foam thru the gas to help clear her out. And DOUBLE CHECK that impeller!!!!!
***** hmm sea foam never heard of that and wish i'd read this before our weekend excursion to lakes....got there and she decided to not start again. A bit of mucking around soon got her fired again but alas the bowls kept flooding and pissed fuel out the overflow constantly....especially the middle carb. Using your other awesome vid I have dissasembled the carbs and just finished cleaning the bowls and jets with cleaner and air gun, shortly am off outside to clean the float needle seats etc and then will reassemble and fire up to see if I have fixed the issue. Cheers again bud!
madsonicboating Check the float bowls bud... And don't hesitate on the fuel pump rebuild either. Very simple, and inexpensive. Cheap insurance if you will.
excellent video, I'm stumped where it the thermostat? plz help
There is no thermostat bud. What's your problem...
The normal, no water out the tell tale. I've even taken the lower section off and stuck a hose where the water pump goes. Must be clogged? Thanks heaps for the quick response
You've got pretty much one of two issues possibly. Simple diagnosis.
1. Your tube that connect from the backside of the motor (near the spark plugs) down to the shroud where it pees out is clogged. Disconnect the rubber hose, run a coat hanger through it and blow it out with air compressor. (Bugs die up in there and clog it every year).
2. Your IMPELLER is bad and should be changed. I have a video on how to change your water pump impeller. It should be done almost every year depending on how much you use your boat.
Just search my name and the tag "lower unit, water pump, impeller" and you'll see a few vids. Here's one to start.
czcams.com/video/PYY5cQXTALA/video.html
Hi, Thanks so much for your content has helped me plenty with two boats running 150 inline 6s in the past few years - almost identical to the 115.
I'm also not getting a telltale even after replacing the impeller. I blasted compressed air up the telltale spout and heard a pop. Inspection revealed that the pop was the pipe that leads to the spout becoming disconnected. Now there is about a 4 inch length of pipe that doesn't connect to anything and I can't see what it is supposed to connect to.
Any tips?
Do you kno if it has a thermostat because I have Same one as you when mine is idealing it doesn't pee but when I ideal it up it peas replaced the impeller
There is NO thermostat. You probably have a blockage. Disconnect the hose, and run a wire through it. While it's off, run it. If it doesn't pee, your blockage is deeper.
@@cturboaddict thank you so much I only bought my boat and engine for 400 and just trying to get it to run right
Is where does the water from the water pump exit on this motor?
Out of the "tell tale". It's a small tube on the starboard side of the outboard. Small rubber hose will be sticking out of the lower surround. If you take the engine cover off, you'll see the tube, it connects to a 90 degree fitting on the back of the motor.
For what it's worth, it does clog. Unhook the rubber hose and run a piece of wire through it or compressed air.
Hi i have same motor on my boat but i can not find the fuel pump do think if is posible use a diferent fuel pump on it thanks let me know
Fuel is primed by the primer bulb attached to your fuel tank. It's then suction fed via the engine operation (carburated motor). There no fuel "pump".
I like your video good job. I have a 1971. Do you have any video how to remove flywheel?
While most won't recommend it. Just unbolt the top bolts and use a puller (they make specific pullers for these motors).
I have the special puller. Do you have to remove all eight bolts and the large nut in the center? Thanks for replying.
@@garyduncan2062 yup
@@garyduncan2062 actually.... I think you can remove it without the large nut being removed if I recall correctly. Mark the flywheel location before removal, remove the 8. It should pop right off.
I have an 86 90hp.. when it runs it runs great.. yesterday I put it in gear, punched it out of the hole. It bogged took time to recover, prior to this is was running great. Lost power and 5-6 mph. I just spent a lot of money having the carbs rebuilt and this was its shakedown run.. any suggestions?
So, after carbs rebuilt it bogs? Did you happen to check your primer bulb? Squeeze it when it bogs and see of it cleans up. If so, replace bulb.
cturboaddict brand new hose & bulb also ew filter..
@@frankdwornnig8513 are you sure the floats are properly set?
cturboaddict I had a pro rebuild all 3 with oem parts..
I just had the fuel pump rebuilt.. it looked like it has never been apart.. hopefully this will cure it
Also known as “whistling silo”.
Don't know if you can help me with my problem, but, im looking for the thermostat and poppet valve on this engine would you happen to know where it is by any chance?
There is no thermostat/poppet valve. These just use fresh water in to cool.
@@cturboaddict th thank you I appreciate that... Reason I ask is because when I changed out my Impaler in my water pump, I started to get hot water coming out of the pee hole, really hot water while on muffs, but it didn't do that before I changed the impeller, I can't figure out why it started doing that now.... Any ideas on what it could be? I had been this engine before in the lake and had no problem with it I just didn't think that the stream was strong enough coming out of the pee hole ,so I changed the impeller, and now I get really hot water coming out of the pee hole, so I took it to the lake and ran it a little bit and it got really hot, and I can't figure out what happened? Any ideas I sure would appreciate it
@@michaelgreene2920 water will be hot from there. The lake will be much cooler.
@@michaelgreene2920 but, you might have something clogged in the lines or impeller tube
@@cturboaddict thank you I'll take it back apart and see if that might be what the issue is
What's the link to get water pump
Hi, does anyone have a link for a carb rebuild kit for a tower of power 1984 90hp ?
Tom, search my name and carb rebuild. I show you the part numbers in my other video.
hey,
i have a 1974 115 tower of power it's pumping out close to hot water? any ideas?? ASAP
From the hose or in the lake? From the hose, semi normal for an idling motor. In a lake, it should be warm, but not scorching.
Can you put your hand on the #1 cyl when running an not burn yourself? If so, you're good.
I have a late 70’s merc 140 that has a misfire carbs are good gas is new any ideas
Check plugs, then check the link and sync
you said you were on a budget so repairing the powerhead you already have would be the cheapest thing to do, but also the hardest, those L6's are a bitch to put back together
hey man do you still have this motor i have the same but whoever had it before did something with the fuel lines could you show me how they connect?
Yessir. What would you like to see in specific? Just the routing?
The line to the left of the fuel line that connects the carbs what is that
+Levi Ervin are you taking about the balancer line that runs from the top to the bottom?
I'm not really sure what they are i just know whoever had the motor before had a fuel selenoid running into it
+Levi Ervin was there a hose that connected to the carb from it? and was the choke removed?
So I replaced the impeller and cap and reinstalled but my controls are reversed forward is reverse and reverse is forward can't figure out why
Your shift linkage is rotated. It's the small rod in the front. Disassemble realign and reinstall.
cturboaddict thank you sir
It's easiest if when it's disassembled to rotate the shift shaft into Neutral. Make the the controls are in Neutral as well. Then reassemble.
I cant find anything about oil in the 1978 mercury 1150 or how to change it. Can someone please help me figure this out
These are 2 strokes. Premixed oil and gas. You dont "change the oil".
Hey i have some questions about my mercury 1400. And ive been followin all ur videos was wondering maybe you could help me out
Anybody messed with the top bearing under the flywheel?? My local dealer is telling me this bearing is no longer available. Any help would be greatly appreciated
You can get pretty much any bearing or seal online.
cturboaddict thanks
cturboaddict any links off the top of your head ?
@@mversaevel crowleymarine marineparts or marineengines. Just add a dot com to all of them. Find your appropriate part number and either order direct or search ebay for that part number.
cturboaddict very much appreciated ! Thanks so much

So, you have a new battery. Does it TURN over?
You need to get it in Neutral to start it.
The “bolts” you are referencing that are on top of what you are calling a cage are NUTS, not bolts.
Eu tenho um motor desses estou quebrando a cabeça para conseguir peças😢
No hablo Español
No it’s not the tower of power is 150 just because it’s a six cylinder does not mean it’s Tower Of Power
We have a 69 Sidewinder with a 72 Merc 1500. Bought it new and have had lots of good hours. Love the unit but the motor has developed a water leak around the spark plugs on #1 and #2. It doesn't look like there is enough room to get the back cover plate off (to replace the gasket) without pulling the power head but your video shows the lower cowl fairly loose so it might work. Would love to hear from anyone who has replaced this gasket and has any tips. We don't have many old merc guys around here to bounce things off of. Thasnk you, lhhill@telus.net
+Larry Hill Where in specific is the leak?
3 years later but your motor is a 73-77. Merc didn’t make a 150 in ‘72.
