The plates for boxing the frame in should have it's "speed hole" punched in, which creates lips all around the edges. This adds a large amount of stiffness to the plates, while also keeping the weight down. Plus, the insides of the frame should have been clean of rust and coated with weld-through primer.

Not very many with access holes. You would think they all would be done that way.makes perfect sence. And it does not take away strength at least none you can measure.

Will the ‘speed holes’ in the frame rails trap dirt and moisture, then rust out fast?
If they don't put drain holes and coat the frame probably.
I was thinking the same thing. Just a partial speed hole at the low point of the frame should allow the frame to shed build-up.
They don't care. That truck is already in their rear view mirror.
The speed holes don't matter when you don't take the rust off the frame to begin with. I would have cleaned the frame off and painted it with weld-through primer before boxing it, then primed all the bare metal again. They might still do that, but it seems like they're working backwards. I would also just have notched the frame for the headers, you're already doing frame work.

@@TheMattc999 I haven't seen the result yet, so maybe they caught it and addressed it! Doesn't have to be a big tube either... thin wall stuff would do just fine.
The stainless tank, when mounted properly will reinforce some ridgity but they do seem to make lots of short cuts to make a faster build & video

Am I the only one bothered by all that rust on the frame? They're doing so much work on that frame and not getting rid of the rust. Media blast that shit and powder coat it.
You clearly don't live up north, that frame looks perfectly fine. Surface rust is inevitable anything over 5 years old has it and it doesn't really matter, it's an issue when it starts rotting through.
The rust isnt that bad, but it does bother me that it doesn't match the rest of the truck

On torque to yeild fastners, you can get a digital level that is zero able, klein has a great one for about $40. Just get tension on your ratchet, have the level on the handle in the same plane as the ratchet swing, zero the level and sendit 🤙🏽

have a shop full of tools except scissors to cut a piece of cardboard.
Boxing in a frame is fine, speed holes are fine but you want some drain holes in the low points or water can pool up inside the frame rails and rust them from the inside out. This is why most factory frame rails are C channel instead of being fully boxed. Its cheaper to do fairly strong and allows water to escape freely so they dont rust out as fast.
The Don well how crappy those welds looked, I’m sure there are plenty of drain holes.
You should have put all of that stuff into that black CVPI.
Is there ever a cost breakdown on any of these builds?
They done it on a few "Budget builds" but what they call a budget build, many of us call a full restoration! I'm $15000 into a $10000 project and that don't even count the price of my truck yet!

1:08 Simpson Speed Holes??? Pontiac beat them to the punch way back in the 1960's. Chassis with those holes were found on the LeMans and GTO's, (maybe even a few other cars in their line) and it was called a "Swiss cheese frame" for the same obvious reasons.

I agree, “WHY” do all this work, and not clean the frame? Others comment about the frame not being so bad, but, I wouldn’t want anyone to know that I worked on it. Would you pay someone mega bucks for this type of work? I don’t think so.

Spoiler alert the truck only made 520 rwhp with a 550 whp tune in it as well done by DBR performance here in tn hell they could push 900 rwhp but it's a track truck but still all that potential. U can look this truck up on youtube and watch them tune it do burnouts and go to track if u wanna skip the build

cannot find even 50% 70% or 80% alcohol for paint prep and or clean up what is a good alternative? Apparently people are bathing in the stuff
McMaster-Carr has gallon jugs of 99% isopropyl alcohol. It’s expensive (especially shipping-hazmat) but they have it. At least the did 3 weeks ago when I ordered it.

I do not know I usually just get to the primer stuff (can) I am learning the real deal slowly this time but the store is closed in my area so the guy I would ask/bother is not available to show me so...I am a pretty good monkey as monkey see monkey do but when I am unsure I ask as many questions as I can so I do not blow up my house/garage I usually dilute as instructed. Or I should say I got the breathing gear and ventilation thing down so at least that:)

American mechanics, just like you learned from somebody someday, it is not possible to do a great charity, a good deed and teach me how to work with heavy mechanics too. I don't charge anything until I work for free for you. I do everything a little bit, just a lot of hardworking and very polite obidiencite I do everything you guys tell me to do on the spot, I do it on the run, it still won't be able to teach me how to work with heavy mechanics. Disel, please, I'm just a big fan of all of you. I love it when I was a kid and here in my country I never had the opportunity and the truth is also not like American mechanics, I tried to be a mechanic when I was only 10, from 10 to 12 years old, I worked in the heavy mechanics of an acquaintance of mine dad, just like i said i quit because it has nothing to do with mechanics i really want to learn for my life q is nothing more than american mechanics, right, please, i really help me to share his knowledge with me I, I beg you in the same way that someone TEACHED you everything you know today and you take it further, teach me also to be able to take it further, because my biggest dream is to be able to assemble a pickup truck in the American mechanical style, right ❤

Stopping the video while a commercial was on! You guys just made a huge mistake. A large unforgivable one. Cutting weight on a flywheel greatly reduces torque... find out from the speed shops the reason for torque is mass weight and what it takes to stop it. A lighter wheel ... flywheel, is easier to stop or less torque. I hope that you read this and catch your mistake in time as you will lose significant power. Torque power!
