It really is just wanting to fix it, within reason
That’s why I watch all of Scotty’s videos and that’s why he is being so successful!
This is so not true
it's a two-way street. Humans don't want to pay for the diagnosis and the other side doesn't have the aptitude or encouragement/support by management to diagnose. Parts replacement (parts cannon approach) is more profitable. It's also the short-term game vs the long-term game in customer service. Better questions, better communication on both sides.

The Ford service cannot find anything wrong and then they'll bring in a sales manager to offer him a deal to trade it in for a new one. That is how they get sales.
Yeah, they explain the equity in the old vehicle and the cost to repair could put them in a new car, with...Full warranty and low, low payments.

Finding an honest mechanic in this area is a challenge. Dealership? No. Big O' Tire? A big NO. Scotty, Thank you for being honest. You are doing God's work.
Had a “manager” of a Big O years back tell me my 02 lightning was all wheel drive 🤣😂🤣. Never went back to one, never will.
Can Anybody recommend good an honest mechanic in New Jersey?
Dealer is stealer
That's everywhere unless you have friends or friends of friends in that industry or just do it on their own like my Dad and my ex husband and even then its sketch.
Best bet would be do your homework, research the problem yourself, get more than one opinion and not tell one about the other and see what they say is wrong. There's many forums that are pretty informative online.
It'll be pricey if diagnostics cost are up there but could save you thousands in the end by not replacing an exhaust over an o2 sensor.
But you're also risking sabotage while they're checking it out. Like that cable they disconnected just to get a few hundred out of you.
Sucks nowadays you just can't trust anyone.

As a mechanic of 25 years I have to say it feels good knowing there are still mechanics out there like Scotty Kilmer. Honest and knowledgeable, so if you can find one stick with them because they are rare and it’s only going to get worse with inflation. Flat rate mechanics will feel the pressure because you know employers won’t compensate them most the time yet cost of living is going up so there work ethic you can wave 👋 bye bye to. I have to be honest because I have built my reputation based on Scotty’s ideals when it comes to servicing the customer. So what it comes down to is I just want to shout out Scotty. God Bless you sir for your service. I am very passionate about my career and to see someone utilizing it into a social media empire is inspiring.
I can’t tell you the destain I have for mechanic's at this point ( no offense).
Nothing is a small fix and $300.
It’s always $1200 and truck is still never right. All my vehicles are always broke.
Would you say it’s almost better to go to a dealership at this point ? Even if it’s a little more I feel like they have to be honest more because it’s a big company.
I mean if you had a 2008 f150 with many issues at 120 k would you be recommending replacing tranny lines because of a small leak ? Especially when trucks at this point need so much more.

You 💯 correct… it’s absolutely one of the most useful tool to have. Saves a lot of time and money when tracking down those pesky noises. Back when i was younger i would use long wooden handle screwdriver or a long stick and put up to my ear to find the noise and this did work but limited to certain areas in a car. Now I’m older i know the importance of having the correct tool so I’m not limited to whatever the situation is
I even used it doing plumbing work

I salute Scott sirs energy and passion.
This is why I like Scotty's videos, you see in a few seconds the difference in between a person that is an engineer since born and a regular mechanic, the way he goes step by step and makes it simple is a sum of experience collected and natural troubleshooting skills, besides that Scotty is a really wise man. I have a cousin that never went to Mechanic school and he fixes stuff for BMWs Mercedes and other expensive cars when dealers cant and funny enough he built his own tools for those cars.
It's more complex that it seems.
Do not discount Scotty's 50 years of experience and troubleshooting skill that takes a lifetime to perfect.
Most mechanics at the dealership are just code readers because the dealership doesn't care to train their employees to troubleshoot anymore. They just replace everything that the code tells them to replace
They hook you in with a recall, then tell you your 7 year old car with 50,000 miles needs 1,000$ worth of work 🙄 Sureeee

Hi scotty your videos helped me figure out my issue. I had acceleration issues with my toyota camry. I went to mechanic they told me to replace the Fuel Pump, spark plugs and coil on plugs but the issue was still there. Then I watched your videos and went back to the mechanic to check and clean the Mass Air Flow sensor, Catalytic Converter, Throttle, Air Filter, Hoses etc. They were all fine. The problem was actually with the Fuel injectors. They cleaned the injectors and the car is running like a beast now ... Thank you so much !
Long live Scotty. I have been watching his vids and eventhough I am
not handy with cars, little by little I’m understanding more and more some of the issues I’ve had with my wife’s Nissan Sentra 2009.
A brand new set of loud pipes can hide many noises. $89 for the detector is a good deal.

If Scotty had hooked up that Noise Master on some of the old cars that my friends and I had back in high school and college you would hear so much noise your ears would hurt. But those big pieces of Detroit iron just kept going. I'm thinking that most mechanics at stealerships are either fundamentally dishonest or just incompetent. Those places are absolute last resort.

This reminded me of my thumping and shaking of my vehicle. I was really concerned about breaking down in the middle of an intersection. Anyway, I found it was the drive shaft completely destroyed along with u joints. I replaced it with a OEM assembly from the dealership at $800. It works flawlessly. Toyota Tacoma with 270,000 mi.
Thumping and shaking was your drive shaft u joints?
@@gabegarcia7779 Yup, it felt like I was going to lose my Axle on the highway especially when accelerating during a traffic stop. The drive shaft was replaced with U joints, then the wheel bearings assembly was replaced. The truck is now smoother than ever at 270,000 mi. Crazy how Toyota builds their vehicles!.

Happy Labor Day, Scotty!
Hi Scottie, rust check is a service and product we use up here in canada, and it does work with some caveats as does other products like fluid film, crown and others. The aresol cans you showed are more for touch-ups. It's best applied with a compressor by someone who knows what he or she is doing. Holes can be drilled and recapped for access into rockers door panels etc. The caveats are one it has to be applied right. For frames a long wand is used to get it into the inside of the frame as well as the out side. The next caveat is when it is applied, in the fall and it is a good idea to also do it in spring after the snow and salt have cleared from the roads. The spring application needs only be done to the frame and undercarriage. Also it is best if this is done as soon as possible to the vehicle's life. The green can is a thicker product that will stay on the vehicle, almost like a thin grease, longer and not get washed off with rain etc. These things (rust check and others) do work it's just a matter of how and when it is applied, someone who is not stingy with the product when doing the service is best.
In the good ol' days we used to use "fish oil".
Yeah, in canada with this much salt there's a whole different approach needed.

Scotty! another great video. There is a solution for rust where you really do not have to clean it off- no kidding- fluid film for instance is greasy and will soak into rust and keep water away. About transmission noise: 06 Sentra with a chirp only at shift from 2 to 3, ever hear about it? There was a tech bulletin about adding an additive to tranny but some say noise came back.

Rust Check definitely works to suppress further rust. The stuff in the green can is thicker than the red one and is very sticky so that it doesn't drip off. The red can is a thinner liquid and will penetrate cracks and crevices nicely but will drip off over time. I've been using their products for over ten years and couldn't be happier.
I am curious, any specifics on your results?
I have a 85 f150 that has surface rust but is solid.
I would like to get 10 more years out of it.
On the fence about undercoating by a pro, seems pricey without any real warranty.
@@poultrypickins9572, try the spray in the red can first. Just drench the rusted areas inside if possible (I took off wheel wells to get access to the inside surfaces), let is drip off and then wipe up any excess on painted surfaces. Rust Check is an oil-based product with some kind of rust inhibitors. It prevents further rust damage. Car washes do remove some of the spray so keep an eye out for dryness afterwards.
@@MrJx4000 Thank you. I will try it in april when the roads up here are less salty and I can make it home from the wash without it getting to dirty again.
