Thanks for exploring the notion of parasitic electrical draws. This is good stuff and can be applied to any car. Well done. Good find about the key fob. Don't leave the fob too close to the car. I'll bet that applies to a lot of cars.
While it's not in the realm of maintenance, DRIVING THE CAR will also prevent a lot of issues and I know from your videos you drive you C5 regularly. Helps to live in a place where you can drive it any time of year. Cool cars should spend more time being driven, less time sitting in dark garages.
Yes. Well put on the more driving and less sitting subject. When I bought my 03 C5 the previous owner had put about 12,000 miles in the 6 years he had it. I had a few problems at first but they were minor. I’ve had it 10 months now and have put a little over 10,000 miles on it. It just seems these cars get a bad rap cause to many people just let them sit. I don’t know why they are great driving cars. I guess they just scared to put to many miles on them. These cars will last 3,4 up 500,000 miles with proper maintenance and repairs of worn parts.
Excellent topic. In the 10 months of owning my C5, I have found my drivers side vanity mirror lights wouldn’t turn off when the lid was closed. I simply added a tiny little rubber dot to push on the tiny pin switch a little more and now it works as it should. I’ve also found that when the ground cluster on passenger side gets corroded it can cause the headlight motors to make a ticking noise until they are unplugged and replugged.
What do I have to unplug and plug back in ?

I only had a problem when my car set for a few days, tract down this and that and in the end put a direct shut off switch at the battery and when I go out of town or winter storage I just flip the switch to off, great peace of mind.
I gone through 2 battery's in the 5 years I've owned my C5 this is the 3rd i now put a tender on it every time i get out of it! It's been 2 years now with no problems & i drive the car at least twice a week. But yeah i learned the hard way too. Great subject.

Thanks for this video. I know it’s been posted a while ago. I’m curious if anyone has some insight on my issue. I did this draw test and my multi meter was 0.00 not showing any draw at all. Took it to check the alternator and that checked out to be good yet I still get get a dead battery within a day or two. The multi meter is new and self tested to be good. I don’t understand what the heck is going on.

My Cousin have a Mazda RX7. His Car stand the whole Winter outside, and after the Winter he can start it, without any Issue.
My C5 is dead after 3 Weeks in the Garage. I need to recharge the Batery every 2 Weeks to be on the Save Side.
No i dont have any Drains, or Gremlins, and everything is Out and Silent.
Can somebody give me some advice my 2011 C6 Corvette will die if I let it sit for even 14 days I have parasitic power loss but I don’t know where it’s coming from or are they all like this? The battery is brand new I might add.
My 2004 C5 parking lights sometime stay on after I turn my car off, which in turns drains my battery.
From my experience, Optima batteries suck. I had an issue where even though my lights were down they were still on. When I hit the high beams they then turned off.
That sounds like an LED light issue. LED low beams don't pull enough current to function properly, you need to add a resistor to the connector to make them work normally.
Question: I’m using an FM transmitter with Bluetooth for music etc in the cigarette lighter outlet. The transmitter has an on/off switch. When turning transmitter off and leaving it in outlet does it continue to draw off the battery?
I ask this bc cpl days ago I went to start and nothing, no dash lights,headlights nothing. I’m wondering if that FM transmitter was the issue.

I watched another video a while ago and the guy said that he used to keep a dash-cam plugged into the cig lighter - until he figured out that it was causing him to get the "No FOB Detected" code. So he stopped leaving it plugged into the cig lighter and had no more problems.
This c5 business is starting to act like a Ferrari in that their electrical stuff is temperamental. And they seem to be fussy w batteries. Well mine at least.

Pulling fuses is really not the "right way" to do this, its a cavemans way in a world with rockets. You want to measure the voltage drop across the fuses and reference a voltage drop / amp draw chart. Pulling fuses works but for when the fuse supplies multiple circuits or multiple consumers you will may get turned around finding the draw.
first things first. and at first you want to limit the possibilities. so pulling fuses is just to show you where to look first.
it is still the way to go for an electrician (like me) and many others.
btw. even a rocket scientist will need someone who can build it.
but some day you will make a graduation and understand. 😉
@@VerrueckterKerl85 i am far beyond graduation. You can disagree with what i have said but cheeky insults aren’t necessary. I dont know what kind of electrician you are but i do know its not automotive. If you were to talk to anyone who does in depth automotive electrical diagnosis they would tell you the proper way is by measuring voltage drop. Pulling fuses allows for the control units on that circuit to reset. It would be a terminal 30 reset. Not to mention there are many cars where 1 fuse powers multiple control units. By measuring the drop you arent disturbing the circuit and therefore can actually find the draw versus pulling the fuse and reseting and loosing the condition you are chasing. Being an electrician and failing to understand is nothing short of disappointing. I cant even imagine someone would argue that point as its lately been something major manufacturers stress in parasitic draw diagnosis 🤦♂️

and if you have found the right fuse you can take your circuit diagrams and go deeper into the wiring and units which are supplied by that circuit.
we are talking about a 20 year old car, not a lately manufactured crap on 4 wheels which will stop working by every little thing that happens. Computer based BS nobody really needs.
Some things are just unnecessary complicated on newer cars. Like my Audi with LED headlights. if it stops working you can buy a new one for 1700!!!!!!€. congrats with that. i would rather hit a concrete wall to claim the insurance than paying that much money for a single headlight.
@@VerrueckterKerl85 you wouldn’t want to cut off the circuit. You want to trace the current draw on it, you can not find the consumer if it is not consuming anything… best of luck to you and your audi.
