Awesome video just picked up a 04 Z06 same issue. I’ll be doing that tomorrow. Thank you!

I have dealt with this same issue before. Unfortunately replacing the alternator did not fix problem for me. Other things can cause the charge system fault, such as decoupler pulley on front of alternator, loose belts from bad belt tensioner. dirty or corroded connectors at various wiring points, or ground connections can also be a cause. I cleaned my ground points and that solved problem. I keep the spare alternator on shelf, for when old one for realsies fails. This happened many years ago. Still using original alternator 2003 c5 206,000 miles. I did have to replace the decoupler pulley on alternator recently cause it was making noise, and charge system fault came up again. I also notice this fault also seems to happen not too long before battery is at end of it's normal life. When I see this pop up, I take it as an early warning that battery is soon going to be needing replacement. Batteries here in Las vegas only last about 2 or 3 years no matter what car you have or what brand you buy.

The beauty of a C5, that alternator would cost 3x as much if it was European or Japanese sports car !!

Thanks for the video. I'm sure my 153,000 mile 2003 C5 will be needing an alternator soon. No issues so far. My C5 has an RPO code K63 (Generator 110 Amp). I don't know if that means there is more than one type of generator installed in C5's. Did you run into trouble finding the right one for your Vette?
Not to nit pick, but you should always disconnect the battery's negative cable first. That way you don't risk shorting the positive to some ground nearby.

There is more than one output level available, my reading indicates the auto transmission cars had the higher output alternators.
Good point about the battery. I usually do disconnect when doing any electrical work on the car, but I guess I overlooked it this time!

@@4KMotoring yeah I went with a powermaster High amp alternator from Summit Racing, the only difference is I had to get a bigger serpentine belt due to the pulley size.

@@OMEGATECH Did you have any issues with that? I read lots of horror stories about the C5 not liking changing the alternator output

@@4KMotoring speaking for myself zero issues with that alternator and I too have heard of the horror stories and as far as the charging system is concerned my next step is a ground wiring kit from SacCityCorvettes Big 3 wiring kit for C5/C5z available for top post and side post batteries it's a complete bolt on wiring kit with no cutting or altering the factory wires

My 2001 says - before I even start the corvette is says Charging system fault. Gauges flash and dim. Previous owner said alternator was replaced just before I bought it. I put a new AGM battery in it. Still has the same issues. Pull the key in and out a few times and then the dining stops and the alarm goes away. Any suggestions?also I have cleaned all the ground spots and connections. I just need to get to the computer under the battery and clean those connections next.

Mine will do this if the voltage isn't correct when starting the car. Either your battery isn't holding a charge or something in the car is draining it while it sits
