  • In this video I explain what a chassis ground is and why it is important to maintain them in your Corvette. Then I show you what the process looks like on my C5 Corvette. At the same time I install a new battery and quick connect for the battery maintainer.

    Back when aluminum wire was the "thing" especially in residential wiring, we used an antioxidant called Noalox an Ideal product.
    This stuff was really good if slathered on anywhere copper and aluminum touched.
    It was required for installation of the service entrance. I believe it was some type of graphite grease.
    Anyway thought that might help......
    Terry.

I am still trying to get someone to donate one to me so that I can examine it myself to see if there is a way. No luck getting one yet. Working ones are hard to come by for those years. C6 related: I took a 2005 Corvette (base car steel frame) and installed the stock battery cables from a 2006 Z06 (aluminum frame) to relocated the battery to the trunk. I wonder if my ground is insufficient since the base frame (steel) conducts electricity more poorly than a Z06 frame (aluminum) I may remove the Z06 battery cable which is battery to frame, and make my own cable (1/0) from battery to cylinder head. I've had a weird service electrical system message in the DIC for a while, no other symptoms or issues.

    • @justcorvettecrazy116
      @justcorvettecrazy116  Před 2 lety +1

      The difference in the resistance of the metals is so small it should not make any electrical difference. What you want to watch is the actual connection points. Different types of metals sometimes form oxidation at the connection points. We saw this back in the 70's when houses switched to aluminum wiring but kept copper plugs and switches. You can use an anti-oxidation paste to solve any issues if you are worried.

    My c5 corvette rear wheel speed sensor is bad or needs cleaned according to my c1234 code and not being able to reset it. I did resoldered the 5 internal relay posts in the EBCM module. I haven't takin the wheel off yet because I'm getting mixed ideas on what actually needs changed (NOT FROM YOU). So after the wheel is off etc is it just a matter of taking off a bolt and pulling out a kinda bullet sensor in that hub area or is it factoried into the hub itself. Which I would have to replace the hub assembly. The hub assembly is like $130 and I found a ACdelco #213-344 speed sensor on Amazon for $31 dollars. What do you think?

    • @justcorvettecrazy116
      @justcorvettecrazy116  Před 5 měsíci

      Thanks for reaching out. I have not had to do a wheel sensor on a C5 yet. But did some quick checking and it looks like the rear hub comes with sensor and is not a separate part. I do not have access to my C5 today to verify this. Even when I look at Rockauto, there does not seem to be a listing for rear ABS sensor by itself. have a look at the pics on Rockauto and there is a plastic ring pressed onto the hub. Not a bolt system like other abs systems.

      Either option should work fine. Which ever option you choose just make sure that the connection is clean before you reconnect the ground. If you go with the treaded bold don't thread lock as is could mess with the quality of ground connection.

The only thing that stops working is my AC, otherwise all else is good and the car runs great. If I shut the ignition off and restart the car everything goes back to normal and might not happen again for the rest of the day. Can this be a ground issue. Hey James, C5 Vettes are very voltage sensitive. So any drop in voltage can throw all kinds of false errors. First make sure your battery is good and strong. Then look at the grounds. Focus on the main system ground and the ground for your dash display.

    Great video, learned a few things that will come in handy. I'm having an issue with my '90 C4 convertible that seems to be a ground issue but I can't locate the cause yet. After driving for a few minutes the speedometer flashes garbled data, the inside lights blink on and off and then the speedometer goes out. Sometimes if I let it sit it will restart, other times the inside lights/map lights don't work and it won't start. I replaced the ECM, it feeds the speedometer and controls the VATS, with no change.
