City of Ryde Recycling - SL030

- Been a while since I threw something up on CZcams, so here we have another Green Machine on show, this time the spare truck SL030 collecting the recycling in the City of Ryde. I managed to catch up with this truck almost two weeks ago on the Anzac Day Public Holiday, in the Tuesday units zone of Ryde and Gladesville being the biggest day for the unit collection trucks.
This is actually a permanent run every Tuesday fortnight on the recycle week, one of the green spare trucks (mostly SL30) is used as a helper truck for the garbage and recycle unit Rear Loaders. It starts off at 5am with a load of Units Garbage averaging about 450 bins with a solid 8-9 tonne load and then returns to the unit zones for another load of Units Recycle averaging about 500 bins with a 5-6 tonne load. All the bins are pulled out and returned to the bin bays by runners, so this particular Tuesday is the only day of the week you will see a Side Loader performing the unit collections in Ryde, except for when there is a breakdown.
I have been wanting to video one of these Ryde Spare trucks on this run for quite some time, will have to aim to get something of the garbage next time. Its pretty cool to see a Side Loader on the units cause it reminds of the old contract when all units were handled by the one armers, much more efficient and quicker doing it with an SL and its mad seeing all the streets filled with lines of bins awaiting collection.
Now to the truck on show here, its a 2005 Iveco Acco with a Macdonald Johnston 25m MkIV Recycler Body. An ex Ryde Side Loader now the spare of the current Ryde contract, going into 11-12 years of full time service showing some signs of age but one tough and reliable truck. As you will see in the video SL030 just smashes the bins on and the paddle packer just chews through the loose recycling like nothing, did not block up once the whole time I was videoing, a perfect truck for the unit collections with the constant flow of material being fed into the hopper. SL030 has had a new Paddle Packer fitted to it and a new Grab head/set fitted also.
Managed to include a couple of different shots and angles to keep the action interesting, cause theres a lot of up and down bin lifts on show here. Excellent video mate, it’s so cool seeing these old trucks on the units, it’s a big shame these had to go but they served their time. absolute beast of a truck and very well operated by the top bloke behind the wheel. that belmore lane shot at 3:33 was great as well as the shot at the top of belmore street at 0:56, i’ve been wanting to climb up those stairs myself to see what that would look like with the series 2s. I love how these trucks would never have an issue with the packer, the bowl never overloaded or anything and i bet the boys loved that about these trucks. Hopefully we will still see the oldies doing this run until the last day of the contract.

Hahaha yeh seems that way but they were really good trucks to use once you got used to them, this one 030 had a really smooth and swift lifter.

Be Interesting to see this truck in white with red stripes and with Veolia environmental services and the yellow hippo! though i still think the same green colour should be kept though as its better then just a plain ordinary white!

Thanks, yeh the lifter and grabs are set at the perfect speed for scooping the bins, that bin lift at 2:02 is the best when the lift and slide meet the hopper together.

Thanks mate ! Yeh saw a set of stairs at the clip at 1:10 and thought beauty running up for the high shot haha. Yeh you should have videoed it as the driver loves the extra camera attention haha :P Ah well you got SL29 and RL06 so pretty good effort !

You can't get enough of these old Ryde trucks can you Alex, you love them mate! haha Nah they are pretty sweet these old green machines, always enjoy watching them myself, glad a few of them are still in action, be epic if these hang around for the rest of the contract! Really enjoyed some of those elevated angles you got, makes watching the truck a whole different experience, especially almost being able to look inside the hopper, seeing the paddle cylinders working and just having that bird POV. I can tell this driver loved the attention, really got into it, but 4:20 got the better of him... bugger you edited the grab fail, I wanted to see the recycle spill everywhere lol These MkIVs can really put on a show with their swift and smooth operating, I love when they're set-up much like the featured lifter, very fun to watch =] Also spotted he was going to get out in the first clip to return those bins, but somebody clearly offered their assistance ;)
Haha yeh mate its no secret I love these old Ryde Green trucks every single one of them cause there all a bit different in there own way and these are the trucks I grew up with :D Every truck both RL and SL from the old contract is still in action (except SL24). This truck SL30 has been a real reliable machine lately and always the first choice when a spare is needed. SL30 pretty much has its own run on recycle week now, as a floater truck for the recycle boys doing two loads, with this driver who takes really good care of it and its good to see ! Yeh I hope they hang around for as long as possible, they seem to keep spending big money on these oldies so they must see more years in them but seeing them last to the end of the contract would just be awesome ! Cheers mate yeh that shot in the second clip was one that I have always wanted to get on camera and a bit of favourite clip for me too with that high angle, most of this action was captured on Belmore St Ryde in the top section near Top Ryde. Ah yeh this driver is a gun really knows how to work an SL and yeh he was excited with the extra camera attention, cause hes very familiar with the CZcams stuff and all the videos up here from you and some of the other guys :) Yeh I edited out that grab fail at 4:20 just cause im a nice bloke :P But yeh you predicted right bottles and paper went everywhere lol ! Haha yeh thought I would help out with returning the bins here and there just to make things a little quicker. Words cant describe how much I want to jump in and do a run with these Ryde Green SL's, you wont be able to wipe the smile off my face once i get to do it haha :P

Yeh hes right Wednesday is the biggest for the Ryde Side Loaders, with Thursday I reckon coming in second. Biggest day for Ryde Unit Rear Loaders would be Tuesday with Friday coming in second biggest.
