  • In this video we see Ryde-Suez spare truck SL029 doing the rounds and picking up recycling in the collection area of Marsfield on a number of different Fridays late last year. Most of the clips in this video are taken at different unit set outs with the odd house clip here and there, to keep the action interesting. Ex Ryde trucks SL029 and SL030 are currently the two spares used in the new Ryde Waste Contract and one of them is pretty much used everyday on dedicated runs and the other is kept as a spare for breakdowns and for use in the heavier summer months.
Every fortnight on the alternating recycle week in Ryde either 029 or 030 is used on a dedicated garbage/recycle run. The truck starts its first load doing Trade/Commercial Garbage in the out of collection zone areas picking up the orange lidded garbage bins, then later returns for two solid loads of recycle in the house areas and even sometimes a third load is completed on the heavier days of the week and summer months, meaning these old green machines can be seen still pushing on late into the afternoon. Garbage from Ryde is now taken to Veolia's Clyde Transfer Station meanwhile recycling is tipped off at Visy Smithfield.
As you will see in the video all "City of Ryde" signage has been removed off these trucks but still faintly visible especially on the body. Late last year this truck had Suez branding applied seeing as its an ex Ryde truck now. Personally I think this truck and the other green ones could have done with a fresh coat of paint seeing as they are used nearly everyday but I dont see that happening as the only have about 3-4 years of service left before they are retired.
This truck is now 10 years old and its had a hard life picking up bins non stop, so therefore breakdowns are a common occurrence with this truck but other than that its sounds great, has a good lifter, plenty of power on takeoffs, packs good loads, drives well and has a paddle packer which is great for all streams especially recycle, sometimes I reckon it puts all those new Ryde trucks to shame haha :P Definitely one truck I want to get behind the wheel of and operate one day. You may also notice SL029 is a little louder than some of the other old Ryde trucks, I believe it has an exhaust leak which increases the overall noise output which I like :)
Also thanks has to go to the champion driver behind the wheel and I hope he enjoys the action. Stay tuned for more footage of 029 doing its thing in future uploads and I hope you guys enjoy the video and remember to like, fav, sub.

+VictorianGarbo® Thanks mate, yep I prefer 29 over 30 just works and drives so much smoother. 29 looked better and probably worked better when you got it on film haha :D Yep hes good this bloke been in a few of my vids, hes permanent but just does any run except for when he does this run, only a few blokes know how to do the trade waste run as the jobs/pickups are scattered across the council.

Very very very nice. Really enjoyed this footage. Shame the old Ryde signage was taken off and replaced with that crummy Suez logo.

+MelbourneGarbo® Thanks Caiden for the comment, I reckon the truck makes this vid nothing better than old school and loud equipment like this one ! They had no choice had to take it off as its not a dedicated Ryde truck even though its out here nearly every day, for a while they were just plain green with no signage and one Monday I saw this truck and it had this shitty blue signage, blue and green dont work :P

Suez operates world wide, in Asia too, although they recently sold off their Netherland, German and Baltic operations too another company. Suez, originally Sita is a French company with a long history, they first started around the beginning of the last century collecting trash in Paris and where also invlolved in chassis and body manufacturing, jump on CRT and check out the Rey and Sita pages if you want more information.

Yep she definitely sounds good, especially with the exhaust bouncing off the building around halfway through. Has SL30 got the same engine as this or the older ISC? I bet 7:13 is a video to come, highly unlikely you just walked off :P I bet they get some quick loads in Marsfield doing recycle with an SL ey! I hope for your sake you do get to drive this truck so you get behind the wheel of at least one real sounding machine.

+MitchellM15 Sounds sweet ey Mitch im glad you noticed it and nah unfortunately SL30 has the older quieter ISC engine. On another note I also found out that out of the Ryde MKIV fleet SL23 was the only 2006 model, the rest of the fleet are 2005 builds. Also since the Sutho trucks came in Penrith doesn't use SL23 anymore everyday so now this week it has been used in Ryde which im very happy about, gun truck that one. You wont believe it but I walked off to keep up with SL29, so nothing of the little truck yet but the reason I didn't stay with it because it was there last pickup before they headed over to Meadowbank. This SL only does the units that are pulled out by residents, all drive ins and all the streets with houses in the Marsfield unit zone, the rest is done by the unit rear loader, he gets about 300 bins on then fills up on the other side of Epping Rd in the house runs. I reckon ey Mitch definitely want to work with some loud and old school equipment plenty of time to experience the new trucks, fingers crossed the engine doesn't blow up like its brother SL24 :p

Nice work mate!! Good to still see these old Ryde trucks are getting around. Kinda reminds me of some of the old SITA - Suez FL's going around at the moment. They have green bodies with a Suez logo (same a this one) slapped over the SITA logo haha. Also do any of these old Ryde trucks, other than SL61 get used in other councils?

+jatho4 Thanks Jatho, yeah its good to see them still working hard everyday doing what they do best and that is smashing the bins on :) They do ey, all old Sita green commercial trucks are getting these Suez stickers applied now, personally it doesn't look the best but its cheaper than a respray ey. I will post a comment below of the whereabouts of old Ryde fleet below:
