Paddle Packing Green Waste - SidePAK

  • In this video you have got an Iveco Acco with a SidePAK body and on show is the trucks Paddle Packer moving side to side, pushing and compacting all types of garden waste (grass, leaves, branches etc...) into the body. I managed to capture this footage on Saturday two weeks ago, with Mitch behind the wheel of his Hornsby Greens SL642 doing some catch up work in Northmead which is now part of the Parramatta Council area (formerly part of The Hills Shire but not anymore due to recent council mergers). Always wanted to get some "real" hopper footage and with the SidePAK slowly becoming extinct, it was a must for me to get one of these Hornsby SidePAK's picking up greens documented up here on CZcams.
    I was really happy with how this turned out cause you get a lot of variety with the different types of green waste being emptied into the hopper, you have got your bins loaded with grass clippings than others filled with your lighter products like branches, trimmings and weeds. Its funny cause as you get towards the last 5-8mins of the video most of the material being pushed by the paddle is leaves but at the start of the video its mostly grass and branches. Shows how much the green waste stream can vary/differ from street to suburb and from time of year to recent weather conditions. As you will notice most of the green bins were fully loaded and i think theres was only 2-3 bins with hardly anything in them. Contamination level was pretty low too with only a couple of non-compliant items seen, a couple of bins had the bagged green waste....which is not the worst of things ey.
    These SidePAK's are pretty good machines for the green waste or any stream with a relatively fast cycle time and lots of force/pressure is seen and heard when the paddle is pushing the greens into the small body openings on each side. The big teeth/spikes on the paddle work very well for the green waste as you will see in the video and the shaking capabilities of the SidePAK lifter is truly awesome ! Big thanks has to go to Mitch for his help mounting the camera and I hope all of you enjoy this special hopper action of the famous Aussie SidePAK doing its thing.

    This is one of the best hopper videos I’ve seen. First of all it’s greenwaste second it’s a paddle packer and third you just can’t beat a sidepak

    Finally got around to watching this video in full!!! Bloody awesome as, cool to see up close hopper action of my own truck, different view to check it out from. Turned out to be a pretty good set-up, even able to see the material pour out of the bin and into the bowl - thought the bins might have gotten in the way and blocked the camera from that action. Funny some areas you can constantly load 2 bins from each house door to door without delay, then some areas the hopper regularly overfills or bridges after a single bin or two. The dry loose leaves like at the end are the best, almost like doing bottles... comes outta the bin easily, spreads across the hopper, gets taken away in a sweep, packs tight and fills more body volume rather than bulking up heavy at the front. I made use of that reverse button who knows how many times a day, helped a lot but, kept things running smooth the majority of the time - dumping that one bushy bin on top of the paddle rather than into the bowl depth can screw you up bigtime. A bit different from the normal packers with this one frequently stopping once the engine RPM goes over 1600 ey! When she got full I tried to allow the paddle to complete the pack stroke before throttling away, saved it stopping and starting up again against pressured load and resistance, instead it gets an effortless change in opposite direction. Cheers for coming out and getting this, too bad my own efforts earlier on failed me, got it documented nonetheless! =]

    Wow this sidepak loader is what Cairns Regional Council has recently, when they changed from Cleanaway to J.J. Richards for their garbage and recycling collection runs. This is one of the best paddle packer videos I have seen so far on CZcams! :D

    Really great stuff, even before reading the description I thought it was Mitch's truck, seemed to go quite well with the greens, interesting how the packer sometimes went back to the body when a bin was raised. Those 2 bits of steel ontop of the oaddle grabbed the stuff well and you wouldn't loose too much packing pressure compared to a double paddle I guess.

    • @AussieGarbo67
      @AussieGarbo67  Před 6 lety +1

      Thanks mate, yeh goes alright this truck with the greens, i reckon it would kick ass on garbage and also on recycle too. Yeh mate that was Mitch manually hitting the paddles's reverse button just helps to make the bins empty quicker and something that you have to kinda do with these SidePAK's cause of the shallow hopper height.

    Sweet as video Alex! Just from looking at the thumbnail I knew t was Mitch since his truck got the two spikes on the top of his paddle a while ago! Wish I could've gotten some hopper footage whilst I was with mitch, shame he was in a rush though. Surely there's a part two to this video! Hornsby surely has a hell of a lot of green waste, wouldn't be surprised if they started handing out skips for greens :p

Nah mate at the time he actually was'nt picking up Hornsby bins he was actually picking up Baulko green bins which are known to be quite heavy too :)

    Top quality footage I like those spikes on the paddle, so the catch up work as you mentioned in the description is that related to parramatta changing to suez and the council amalgamations ? I understand there have been quite a few issues with waste collection in parra recently, was the contract with cleanaway only a 5 year deal or was council not happy and shit canned them early ?

    • @AussieGarbo67
      @AussieGarbo67  Před 5 lety +1

      Thanks, yeh the spikes work really well with the bushy green waste and I reckon would be good for pushing the recycle through too. Yes the catch up work was related to the contract changing hands and the council amalgamations which meant a couple of border changes. Yep there was a lot of issues towards the end of the last Parra contract main reason being short on drivers and trucks, and yes the last contract in Parra with Cleanaway was only a 5 year deal im pretty sure the one with Suez is something like 7-10 years.

      @gamebrosforlifes1119 Před 6 lety

      Oh ok mate the thing is the this truck isn’t working in Hornsby it works in the hills shire council because I think they used as a spare for the Hornsby green waste truck and that’s what they do that. Basically in the hills shire they used Dennis raptors not iveco raptors because the old trucks have been taken in October this year. So the old trucks was here for couple of years ago back in early 2008 the first ivecos were 9 years old so Edward lees hills garbage trucks filmed old trucks for last couple of months ago this year and after he filmed Dennis raptors in same October and he filmed about 3 Dennis garbage trucks and 3 Dennis recycling trucks but he didn’t film green waste yet I will see if he does film green waste Dennis raptors. Dude you said you will get parramatta on video on last 2 months ago. You know in ryde garbage that I said are you gonna get parramatta on video and you said yeah I will get parra on video

    Awesome stuff, love the Sidepaks and love watching them tackle the green waste. I noticed the paddle was either double checking at each end on each sweep or stopping as the truck was in motion, no doubt Mitch would of been stopping the packer with the inside controls or is this a common procedure? best thing I like about the Sidepaks is the jolts that the arm makes constantly and is a reassurance to the driver that the bin is empty ahah. Spikes are a good edition although would be nice to watch it tear apart cardboard but I noticed it one was bent slightly. Deffs a like!

    • @AussieGarbo67
      @AussieGarbo67  Před 6 lety

      Thanks mate, yeh mate the SidePAK's are one special machine and it absolutely tears and smashes up the greens ey ! Nah mate when the paddle stops and goes back the other direction that is Mitch manually pressing the reverse button. He does that when a bin is about to be emptied into the hopper due to shallow hoppers on these SidePAK's. Yeh 100% mate the shaking capabilities on these things is truly awesome and unbeatable.
