- In this video we see Fairfield City Council Recycle truck #543 handling the yellow recycle bins on a cloudy Monday morning at 8am in the suburbs of Yennora and Old Guildford. The recycle crew start alongside the garbage crew in Fairfield City at 3:30am and are pretty much all done by 9am. The early starts for waste collection in Fairfield is something you dont hear of in most Sydney's councils as its the usual 5-6am start, however a few Western Sydney councils choose to start collections at 3-4am. All recycling is tipped off and processed at Polytrade Rydalmere with each truck completing a solid two loads each weekday.
The truck featured in this video is a 2003 Iveco Acco with a Macdonald Johnston 29m exDART body. This truck (SL01) same as its other three brothers (02,03,04), began operation way back in 2003 when WSN was awarded the Fairfield Recycle contract, the four trucks were white sporting the council livery and Waste Service NSW logos. The four Acco/MJE DART trucks were painted up in the gold WSN livery later on in the contract and serviced the East/West split bins with bottles and containers placed in the back section of the bin and paper and cardboard placed in the front section of the bin. A couple of years into the contract and the idea of separating the recyclables was no longer required, so all the dividing walls and inner tailgate were removed and essentially the DART concept was abolished. If I can remember right residents were informed but it seems most of the dividers in the bins were never removed by the contractor so still to this day over 50% of the bins have the original dividers. In 2011 SITA Australia acquired WSN, so these trucks were resprayed in the green and white SITA livery. In May 2015 SL03 was put out of service because of the chassis breaking, SL24 was the replacement truck for a short term. Somewhere in the middle of 2015, the SITA Fairfield Recycle Contract came to a end and surprisingly council bought the four trucks (01,02,04 and an old gosford truck) off SITA, rehired the drivers and re branded the trucks with "council" signage and took on the recycle collections as an in house operation out of the public works depot. So theres a bit of history on the Fairfield Recycle contract over the years.
A little while ago now Fairfield Council did an upgrade of the recycle trucks and bought four new blue Iveco Acco/29m GenV's, so the old DART's have been retired from service. Also thanks to my good mate Sean for letting me know but JJ Richards had the Fairfield Recycle contract before WSN, so the Sulo 2 East/West Split Bins were originally rolled out by JJR. Thanks has to go to the awesome driver behind the wheel for giving me the green light for the videos, I will have to get back out there for something of the garbage collections with the new and old trucks. Thanks for watching and remember to like, fav and sub.

You should get a taste of the trucks they are great
Niece video
I was thinking a couple of days ago about when you might get this video up, took ya long enough ;) These trucks must have been rooted at the end, I wonder how much they broke down. Council didn't have them for long either, I'm sure the boys would've gotten a shock going from these old bangers to the newbies ey! I love how the bins have still got the dividers in them too, I don't think the council even attempted to have them removed once they went comingled. I heard squealing brakes around 5:20, assuming it was the garbo, you get him too? Very different having a council take on services in-house from contractors - happened a couple of times regional, but unheard of these days in metro areas!
+MitchellM15 Hehe yeah I took my time I have got to start getting into the habit of uploading more frequently, I think you know whose video is next ;) Ive noticed you're uploading every week now opposed to every fortnight gotta get through those videos ey ! Yep they would be buggered, they didn't even have them for a whole year but I liked the Fairfield signage on the green body...worked well I think. Would have been that initial shock of going to a new truck for the first couple of weeks but I reckon there loving there new GenV's now....very overdue for upgrade these DART's :P Still got the dividers in there I couldn't believe it, I would laugh if there are still residents sorting :P Yep that was the garbos brakes actually was a brand new Acco/GenV he was working alongside a old GenV and nah didn't get anything of the garbage decided to focus on recycle, ill get the garbage for sure.
wow i have seen this truck before
MitchellM15
Thanks for the video, can you please video and upload the Quirindi garbage collection next?
+creamingsoda33 Too far away for me, I only focus on the Sydney based waste collections.
Great video. Always good seeing old trucks like this. Do you know if Fairfield kept a spare?
+Garbofan 101 Thanks, I just had to get one of these on video and im glad I did. Not to sure if they kept one as a spare recycle truck theres a chance, I haven't seen any of these up for sale yet so they might have been scrapped.
What's your next video to upload to CZcams ASAP?
+creamingsoda33 you will find out when its uploaded
When this contract was around it was in house right?
WSN/SITA held the Fairfield Recycle contract from 2003-2015. Garbage has always been in house and recycle was in house after SITA lost it. SITA/SUEZ has done the Clean Up contract since 2010 and currently still do it.
@@AussieGarbo67 oh ok cool. Do you have any combo lift videos that you are gonna upload?
@@NSWGarbo47 Nah mate
@@AussieGarbo67 oh ok. Are you gonna get shoalhaven trucks at any point? Because they got new ones this year.
roar
is this a mkiv
Yes I think
Can't believe that FCC would have a rust heap like that running around in the streets. It look like part of the metal structure was only hanging by a thread.
Very nice mate that's a old truck
+RedlandsGarbageFan Thanks mate and yeah these have been pulled out of service now
***** o really the hopper at the front looked like it was wobbling sometimes
+RedlandsGarbageFan Yep four brand new blue Iveco Acco/29m GenV's are doing the recycle in Fairfield. Yeah nearly every time he shaked the bin the grabs hit the metal :P
*****
sweet are you going to get some footage of them ?
+RedlandsGarbageFan Yep will do the new recycle trucks and also the garbage
