Kogarah Recycling - SL42

  • In this video we see fellow garbage enthusiast Mick driving his St George Recycle/Greens truck SL42 on probably Sydney’s coldest and windiest day in 2016. We see SL42 working through its Wednesday Recycle run on the second/last load of the day, firstly in the units section then moving into the nice, quiet and straight residential streets. The truck in the spotlight is a 2007 Iveco Acco/Macdonald Johnston 25m GenV, a Suez Side Loader from the Lucas Heights Yard contracted to the St George Region of Councils used primarily as a recycle truck but also completing two green waste runs a fortnight.
    Every fortnight on the Wednesday SL42 can be seen blasting through the streets of Kogarah collecting the weekly recycle unit and commercial bins and also residential bins on the other side of the collection zone. SL42 does a green waste run in Oatley on the alternating Wednesday which I do have plans to get on video.
    I’m one truck down in the St George fleet many more to video as there is a great variety of trucks used in the fleet including GenV’s, Series 2 and 3 Raptors, MKIV’s, UrBin’s, HEIL and JP5. I was surprised at how easy it was to find other trucks as they all work close to each other. St George has always been one of those contracts that I have been interested in, as its three council areas and a lot of trucks involved to get the job done. Rockdale (Started 2008) - Monday/Thursday. Hurstville (Started 2010) - Tuesday/Friday. Kogarah (Started 2009) - Wednesday.
    All the recycling collected from the St George Region is taken to Polytrade's Recycling Facility at Rydalmere, with each of the recycle trucks doing a solid two loads of 500-550 bins. Just recently both Hurstville and Kogarah councils merged together to form the newly named Georges River Council, due to NSW council amalgamations. Rockdale Council is still standing alone. I found out that Suez picked up the St George waste contract yet again for another 5-7 years but it is unknown if they will upgrade the trucks or stick with what they got for the contract term.
    SL42 being one of the original Rockdale units and over 8 years old now, it is showing signs of age with faded signage and dodgy paintwork/panels. But other than the aesthetic looks, old 42 has a quick lifter, packs well, sounds bloody good and gets the job done swiftly with thanks to the top gun driver of course. A thanks has to go to the awesome driver Mick for letting me get some video and I hope you enjoy the action mate along with everyone else.

    42 got the permanent role az 67 got written off as it had a roll over a coupme of years back

    • @AussieGarbo67
      @AussieGarbo67  Před 8 lety

      Ah that makes sense Mick, so if 67 never got rolled that probably would have been your truck today.

  • @AussieGarbo

    I'm taking 10 points off him for every bin he left knocked over (windy day or not) and didn't put back on the kerb hehe Another one you tried to edit out at 7:17, but I don't miss this kinda stuff ;) What an amateur at 9:19, goes and scoops off the mirrors and does a half grab, gotta practice this stuff for the camera Mick lol Hands down this would be my fav truck I drove at St George, purely for the sound it generates, total mean machine.

    • @AussieGarbo67
      @AussieGarbo67  Před 8 lety

      The bins from the units that he left on the road dont count mate as the runners put them back, you just love pointing out all the fuck ups ey and I was just waiting for you to comment on that bin at 7:17, I knew you would spot that one was a poor put down from Mick :) Sounds amazing this truck, something I noticed pretty quickly when it approached me for the first time on that Wednesday, definitely a unique and piercing sound to 42, did 42 used to be a spare in St George ? I remember hearing that somewhere. Mitch if your doing any Baulko or Hornsby runs on a Monday, even Parra on Thurdsdays let me know ey, would like to catch up again :)

    • @AussieGarbo
      @AussieGarbo Před 8 lety

      Yes true they get put back, he coulda left them all standing at least seeing how the runners were kind enough to space them out for him :D Mick's seen my comment and has told me I'm an arsehole lol That's exactly the thing with 42, it has a unique sound, not something you find often at all. Yep used to be a spare truck, but when I was there it had a permanent garbage run to fill on Mondays and Wednesdays. Seemed like it was out on the road more often than sitting in the yard as an extra. I was actually just thinking recently I haven't told you when I've been working close to Ryde! Haven't missed me much the last fortnight but, I'll give you a heads up in future anyway ;)

    • @AussieGarbo67
      @AussieGarbo67  Před 8 lety

      I was actually surprised at how good the runners are at spacing the bins out in St George, as I know the Randwick runners from your experiences actually make the job harder sometimes instead of the other way round. 41 was doing the garbage in the residential zone alongside Mick and it had a nice sound too it as well, cheery driver too :) All good Mitch im keen to see you in one of those Cleanaway trucks also if your working in Burwood any days give me a heads up also :) Wonder how SL31 is keeping up over in Randwick without you looking after her, probably spending more time in the workshop then out on the runs :P

      ***** Good to know :) i hope to see your video of SL41 doing the garbage, I wonder if you'll run into SL66 doing the reds, that driver is a friend of mine, he's Kevin. I also hope to come back to Kogarah to see what trucks i can film and also to see Mick as well.

      Who knows might mate the one thing I like about the St George contract is that there is a wide variety of trucks used and they all closely work near each other making them easy to find, especially on Wednesdays when the whole of Kogarah is done. What councils are you planning to video next ?
