no bolt-on experience yet but looking forward to it -- here are notes i took to take with me under the car -- 2013 camaro SS, L99, all stock
(hes using a wrench, not overly long socket, no torque wrench)
    1. remove 8 spark plug wires (from above)
    2. on drivers side disconnect O2 sensor from back side of rear cylinder head closest to firewall
    3. remove 6 bolts holding the factory exhaust manifold to the cylinder head
-it will drop, dont hurt spark plugs
-remove factory gasket carefully (get new?)
    4. On passenger side disconnect O2 sensor from the top
    5. remove bolt holding dipstick to cylinder head
    6. remove dipstick assembly from base
    7. remove 6 bolts holding the factory exhaust manifold to the cylinder head
    - dont let it hurt spark plugs when drops
    - remove gasket carefully
    8. diconnect rear O2 sensors (1 on each side) -- disonnect it on the side closest to the car NOT the exhaust
    9. unbolt manifold from exhaust (1 at a time, remove, repeat)
    10. move manifold fwd, remove from engine bay
    11. remove steering shaft (later reinstall with locktite)
    12. put the driver side header in place
    13. put the passenger side header in place
    14. he got new factory manifold gaskets
    - make sure correct orientation gaskets (put inline with Stainless Power header holes)
    - bolt header and gasket down to cylinder head using provided hardward (?)
    - tighten bolt
    - repeat on passenger side header & gasket
    15. reinstall dipstick, make sure bottom part goes correctly into oil pan
    - bolt to cylinder head
    16. reconnect steering shaft / tighten bolt / use loctite! (eh maybe its just a torque thing rather than loctite bc there is no nut)
    17. install catted connection pipes / adapters to (my) stock exhaust
    - rotate so O2 sensor sideways facing inward
    - put 02 sensors back in after Cat (rear ones normal wrench, front provided EXTENSION HARNESS)
SO HE HAS THIN CLAMPS 1" WIDE ON EACH SIDE OF THE CATS, AND A BUTT WIDER 4" CONNECT AFTER CAT PIPE WITH O2 SENSOR ***TO*** THE REAR STOCK EXHAYST
    18. Connect front O2 before Cat, using EXTENSION HARNESSES provided
    19. reconnect the car side of all 4 O2 sensors 2 on each side, 1 on each side of the CAT
    - he wrapped the cord around the black cord organizing cover before plugging in (after cat ones)
    - same on pre-cat ones
    20. consider new spark plug wires with ceramin boot (petronix?)
    21. install spark plug wires 8 to complete installation
    22. update tune to eliminate the check engine light

For the 5th Gen Camaro's most system will connect with out any issues unless you have something that is specific to the manufacturer of the headers or the exhaust you have. Typically most header systems will use the factory connection point. It just depends on the combination you have.

    one more question
when you put up the headers from underside how do you make them to stay?
do you have a hook or something?
it almost feels like you need two people for this
one that puts up the headers and one that grabs them from top.

One question: why can you remove the stock manifold without removing the steering shaft but you cant put the new headers on without removing it?
also what Torque is the steering shaft bolt at?
    thanks

    • @PhastekPerformance
      @PhastekPerformance  Před 11 měsíci +1

The larger primary tubes for the headers wont allow them to squeeze through the gap between the cylinder head and the steering shaft. Thats why it needs to be removed.
I am not sure on the torque spec for the steering shaft bolt.

Quality is top notch, they are a great budget header that performs with the best.

What do you do if you break bolts?

    • @PhastekPerformance
      @PhastekPerformance  Před 3 lety +2

That is going to be a fun one. To fix it correctly, you will have to take the cylinder head off and work at getting the remaining of the bolt out from there. You might have to drill the holes and work the rest of the bolt out from there or make new threads. Either way take your time with this fix and best of luck!
