"I saw that the art kit was bright and cheerful, so my first thought was... can I make a horror game with this."
I legit almost fell out of my chair when I heard that. The absolute mad man.
But how were the mechanics for the spider tho. It looks dope. Is there a tutorial or something?
My first thought when he said "My first thought was" was Its gonna be horror isn't it... lol
Same, obviously wanted to be as creative as he could with the assets, I love how he managed to flip such a cheerful asset pack into something so creepy.
@@polu9133 there's a tutorial for it on Miziziz's channel, it's in the Godot tutorial playlist, literally just found it.
@@bencastor9207 thx

Last one was really cool, and the first one was super polished
I feel like both could easily be expanded into full games
@@occasionalart7597 Have you met the game Limbo?
@@patrickrancore Yes, but the one in this video seems different enough to me
Combine those two and you've got a game
@@Rhavus I mean they're still games separated

I absolutely love how you think outside the box while simultaneously worry for your well-being.
I really like the concept of the aliens passing daggers up to the leader, so simple yet I don't think I've seen something quite like that before
Oh man, if this was a Netflix series, I'd binge watch for sure. The lighting that Philip used in his game is amazing. He mentioned that was made in Unity. Is this technique possible Godot?
I think so, it supports sprite normal maps
@@Miziziziz Cool! Something new to google :)
You have to hand it to the particle animation system in Unity, which I feel tied the lighting together very well!!
The Unity Particle System consists of over 40 complex components with well over 400 interactable features connected, all of which have unique, individual effects on particle nature! To top it off: this particle system is made super accessible by the powerful framework of C#!
For those of you who don't know! Look AT the MOUTHFUL that Wikipedia defines C#: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/C_Sharp_(programming_language)
Yeah, C# is badass 😁😎
@@teggiefoxtrott5424 who is paying you? 😆
@@Beunibster lmao! Unity is just my favorite right now!! Hahaha
Jesus, the enemy in that horror-based one was terrifying
Reminded me of the spider in Limbo
@@matt10y27 Exactly!
(Your/) Miziziziz's algorithm for making the "monster" move around the rooms was really impressing. Especially when it stretch its legs to reach a higher-up platform. Jaw-dropping moment - even if it was written before the actual jam started.
Great work from all 4 devs, but seeing that "monster" move and attack was a literal "bruh! moment" for me.
In this episode of "flexing on my game developer friends"...
First guy was hard to flex on.

Thank you for inviting me. This was a lot of fun.
Your welcome
"that blue gem feels like a little bit of a trap" *proceeds to jump for the gem*
well you gotta test your theory.
the scientific method
I LOVE the four game dev's jam series, please keep making more of these they're amazing. 12/10. Most excellent.
13/10
The Limbo-inspired game was my favorite!
It turned out great! Super cool to be a part of this! Thank you for inviting me!
Mr Philip hello,
Would love to get some guidance regarding the particle effects you did in your game. Those are superb.
@@zangbd1124 Thanks! I usually layer multiple effects on top of each other and then just mess around with their settings until it looks decent. Using post processing also helps a lot with making it all look better.
Philip Lindberg , what is the name of the method used to create the particles of light around the player that lights up the room as you move?
@@yolosanctuary It's Unitys 2D lighting. The player basically just has a "Light 2D" component attached to its game object.
Loved the look of your game the most. It was polished as hell for a 48hr project!
"how much blooming you want"
philip: "yes"
So inspiring, I love when the devs create something completely different from the art kit's mood or gameplay it was made for
That spider idea was really cool and creative
1st one was beautiful and looked fun! Last one was amazing how he made the cheerful layout a horror game-- amazing lol
This is definitely my favorite series from this channel!
I love getting exposed to different ways people approach problems given a set of limitations.
This has been inspirational.
I love hearing the other devs live comment their plays as you hear their joy when they realise how the game works.
The first one looks amazing, the last one was a REALLY nice twist on the cheery aesthetic
the "4 producers make a song out of the same sample" but with video games. this is dope af.
This is incredible. I especially love the first one - being able to create this within such a short time is just unbelivable. Also the fact that he provided the entire project to look into how he's done stuff is amazing :)
You consistently create the most creative and most visually appealing games (I'd guess because of your art experience), I love it!
Please keep doing these they insanely awesome to watch. So interesting to see different developers thought process and creative ideas. Love it
These are the coolest game jams I've seen. Every one of these videos is full of so much talent and clever mechanics! Great job guys!
love the video concept, please do this again, I'm sure they are tons of devs who'd be happy to try it out.
I absolutely love this series and would love to see more. It's fascinating seeing the process in their thinking.
The last one was definitely my favorite. Your games seem to always be out-of-the-box, it's great.
Damn dude you make such cool little games really loving the content
I loved this, you could see how much time each person was able to do, each of them showed the style of the creator very well. Nicely done
Neat to see how different everyone's ideas are, and their different methods of implementing it all. The first one looked so good with those particle effects, they added so much to the finish that it's insane, and the last one was amazing with the atmosphere!
Very cool to see these. I liked reading the short bio for each developer.
Seeing Josh's game, remind me about Thai indie game namely "So many Me". You might want to check it out. You pick out friends, and friends will be following you along too. Ohh, and nice passing that shard from the back as weapon haha.
Philip pulled off a 2D game with a much more convincing 3D aesthetic than that Soup game.
Now I'm interested in to putting Normal Maps and realistic Lighting in to my own 2D game as well.
If they were to make another new Soup game, they should use this technique as well.
Loving these jams!! Very inspiring!
I love this idea! So awesome to see what each dev makes!
Damn i thought there was going to be more of these jam offs. Good videos bro.
would love to see more stuff like this - was a great watch ^-^
Holy crap I'm going back and watching all of these and Miziziziz I also just graduated from App, but with a History degree. Roll 'neers man! Means we were there at the same time which is just a funny quirk of life I guess.
Holy please do more. Awesome and inspirational to watch
Thoroughly enjoyed this! I want to see more!
Hah! Exactly that word. :)
This series is incredible! Your out of the box thinking is really inspiring. To make a horror game out of that art pack was just genius! I would also love to see more of Ryan Fleury and Philip Lindberg! Do you think it would be possible to have them back for future episodes?
the youtube algorithm led me here and I'm glad it did! This is such an inspiration! Thanks guys!
This series is really interesting! You should make more!
All the entries were very cool, but yours was such a different take it really surprised me!
So awesome how different the games ended up to become. Also in art-style and such it was really a huge difference. The first one with great lighting, second one with really flat style and the last one with the black-white tone.
Really inspiring all!
I really like how you made a game so nonchalantly "just like that". Really inspiring.
that was great idea for the video. I loved the creativity.
i love how each have different ideas and uses and all Think out of the box . for this one i really loved the last game
This is what I was waiting!
Your idea of making this a horror theme was fucking brilliant! I was not expecting that.
That spider was insane
its amazing how complete the first one is, and it just looks beautiful, and the last one its like an actuall full story and mechanics game , awsome
9:32 What have you done? You can just use a tilemap with a tilemap collider or sprites with 2D colliders.
yeah i thought the same, but hey if it works it works. xD
That's how you use to make 2D games in Unity
@@TsunamicBlaze Okay, glad it has gotten a lot easier since then.
@David Lad Probably would've been a lot easier and more efficient to do it the intended way. Maybe he really wanted that weird perspective view and that's just the way he thought to do it because that's how he's done it before.
Definitely was not the most efficient way to do it though lol.
@@Ubayla It's literally only because up until recently unity hasn't had great 2D support, it's 2D kit was terrible. So devs used the 3D version all the time.
So whilst it was released at the time of this video, he hadn't familarised himself with the 2D version yet so it was pointless for him to stray from what he knew given the time frame.
The first one was so pretty! Lighting alone can be a miracle!
Very underrated youtuber ! Keep up the good work
This was a great video and interesting games. When the horror game came up I instantly thought "This dood gets it!"
This is a cool idea; I would like to see this done on a larger scale.. it really makes you wanna stand out by doing something different. The snake game really stands out in comparison.
This was an absolute delight to watch
Nice job everyone!
That was SUCH an awesome video oh my god. So much work was put in and it paid off, that was so cool to watch. I wish some of the guys just had a little more spunk and enthusiasm, but I can deal. Great video man, def subbed! (:
I am about to graduate from App this semester! So cool to find a CZcamsr who is so similar to me in education and interest!
Philipe's game is awesome. The light, particles. I need to learn it.
Last one was a masterpiece ngl
you sure are talented Miz. I can't believe you made that in what 48 hours?
I'm following you closely as my inspiration!
the last one was the most interesting idea, and the first the overall better. Honestly, those two were words apart from the others.
I really love this series
I love the spider thing and the kill animation
The ending to the horror game is freaky, my favorite of all 4 is totaly Miziziziz' game, its so cool.
These were awesome!
I've definitely played a mobile game with those exact assets years ago
Awesome video!
For such a bare art kit we got some pretty good games
Philip's game was so beautiful that it doesn't matter how well it plays, it is gorgeous.
these were all cool but yours was easily the most impressive
Great video dude.
Philips game looked really polished and realistic
Phillips' game looks real nice, i think he was the runner-up
First one is a definite winner, if not for last one that he used ready code to make that spider, i would've said it's even better as it's something different than just a regular platformer but it's a nice game either way, it just sucks that he didn't stick to "48hours" game idea.
Man yours was so good
me a week into doing something like this: so i finally added a box collider to the character
the first game is so inspiring for me as a developer. He made it so cool
1:40
wow, that's actually really really good
your artstyle reminds me of Feudalism.. one of the best flashgames i have ever played.. it was the game that prepared me for Mount & Blade.
Dood I love your games!!!!
13:06-13:14
Literally the best lines I've ever heard.
First and last onr were amazing
How cool, you always surprise me, this kind of videos is excellent on your channel, I like this great variety of developers, they all did quite well, the first one surprised me a lot, it's as if those hours had been worth a whole week of work. As always your video game fascinated me, that procedural animation of the spider was excellent. And the way to attack is great. I remember that you made a video about procedural animation (2D), I have that video pending. In some future, estimated friend, I would like to participate in one of these Jam. I would like you to consider making a video about procedural animation, for a 3D object, humanoid, or a quadruped, (horse for example). And if you could talk about the advantages, thanks for your channel, your videos motivate me, to keep moving forward in making my dreams come true
You guys should do more of these..
One is in the works!
The first game was just so far ahead of the others. Insane
Josh's game "Hand to Hand" has an awesome and super unique mechanic that I would totally get if it was on the Play Store.
Mr Philip, I am in love with the particle effects u used here. I am a bit jealous and sad that I can't do effects like that yet.
Zang BD I would recommend Brackey’s video on particle effects
Damn! The last one, the horror game, was amazing!
Cheerful Art Kit: [exists]
Mizi: *Can I make a horror game with this?*
Brill channel brill idea. I'd love to know how they did some of the effects in used the games. Did the dev record their development twitch style. Thanks Nigel
Well done, all!
Dayum. Lights make lots of difference
Not sure why, but when the summary at 5:08 popped up at first I thought it's a memorial, like the dude died. Not sure why, just looked like it.
Great games. Impressive.
