  • Found this while going though some old tapes... it aired during an episode of Fun House in 1989 on WSMH-TV in Flint, Michigan. Real interesting showing the voice over announcer's waveforms while he's talking and the waveforms of the EBS tones.

      If we wish to make it louder, we will bring up the volume. If we wish to make it softer, we will tune it to a whisper. We will control the horizontal. We will control the vertical. We can roll the image, make it flutter. We can change the focus to a soft blur, or sharpen it to crystal clarity. For the next hour, sit quietly and we will control all that you see and hear. We repeat: There is nothing wrong with your television set.

    Many stations like KPLR channel 11 in St. Louis have EBS tests conducted during cartoons WSMH was on the same page as KPLR.

    At 0:56, it supposed to change the screen color to blue and it read “This concludes the test of the Emergency Action Notification System”.

    Any other Flint area EBS Test slides you remember? All I know WJRT ABC 12 in the late ‘70s until 1987 when it had the CD logo.

    Detroit WJBK’s EBS Test from 1987 is finally here on CZcams. Not to scary than this one just the opening announcement shown during the tone then it scrolls up for the closing.

    • @nicka727
      @nicka727 Před 2 lety

      @@Rin_Derg Was the 1973 variation used on WJBK? I think WJBK used that slide until 1978 to the one that looked like the one from 1987 but with the red circle 2 logo. But when WJBK changed logos in 1983, they continued to use that slide by using the updated Detr2it logo.

    Unlike user fieldsfan336 who have seen the WXYZ EBS test long time ago, he might've got scared the same way that he did with this station from Flint, Michigan WSMH.

      I am the girl Nick has been talking about. When my maternal grandmother lived south of Sarnia in the mid 1980s, we would frequently visit her. The area picks up the Detroit channels since the village was across the St. Clair River from Michigan, and I do remember seeing the WXYZ test once and being freaked out over it because of the voice and sine wave patterns. Seeing this test gives me the same kind of creeps

    WXYZ EBS is finally up and they it slightly different on the script. Date of the test November 25, 1980 between 4-5:30pm during its afternoon movie MASH based on the TV show.

      I don't know WHAT part of that EBS test was the scariest: the zooming in of the "THIS IS A TEST" or the end with the CD logo and the background changing colors....

    Number one this is another EBS test from Michigan that is very scary than WXYZ from Detroit's sans the CD logo. Number two WSMH is another Michigan station ran their EBS tests during afternoon cartoons (WXON TV 20 in Detroit did it too). Number three I watched Fun House on WKBD channel 50 in Detroit and it was carried on cable then in the Bay City, Flint, and Thumb area where this station is served and WKBD usually run their EBS tests in the early afternoon hours before 2:30pm and not during cartoons. Number four if I'm in the area where WSMH 66 is viewable, I watch Fun House on WKBD 50 in Detroit via cable instead of being scared of this test.

      Nick albers Yeah... watching this EBS test was kind of scary as a kid, but as an adult, this is pretty interesting. I grew up in the Flint area and had great memories of WKBD as well as WDIV and WXYZ, but when my mom purchased a new antenna for our house, it was less powerful than the old antenna and we lost the ability to recieve Detroit area channels. Oddly enough, we weren't able to pick up Lansing area channels with the old antenna, and we were able to pick up Lansing channels with the new antenna. I was also able to watch WKBD, WDIV, and WXYZ at my dad's house as a kid because he had cable and my mom lived out in the boonies. My mom didn't get anything close to cable until she got DirecTV in 1996, and when my sister and I moved out as we got older, she shut off the DirecTV, and oddly enough, she was finally able to get cable on her street in 2014. But my mom doesn't have cable and still wants me to come and install a new antenna for her sometime before the winter comes.
      Kind of rambling, but interesting enough. I'm still going through old tapes that I've converted to DVD, so stay tuned for more stuff from the Flint area!

    Samrulez06, did you catch the EBS tests from Detroit stations that you had? Or any other Bay City, Flint, and Thumb area stations that you seen EBS tests other than WSMH 66. At least a post that mentioned about the one from WXYZ by another user had seen which is I know about that with the wavy lines.

      @samrulez06  Před 9 lety +1

      Nick albers Can't say that I have any others, especially from the Metro Detroit area. I'd have to look close, but I highly doubt that I have any more. If anything, I probably have more recent EAS tests, but not from Flint or Detroit. Honestly, the chances of me having any more EAS or EBS tests are literally slim to none.

    • @samrulez06
      @samrulez06  Před 9 lety +1

      Nick albers Honestly, the one thing I wish I had were some sign offs or sign ons from the Flint stations. I've seen some for WFUM, WJRT, and WEYI here on CZcams, but not on any recordings that I currently have.

      +Goanimate 355 What is what in the background? If you're referring to the green, it is an audio waveform of what is being spoken, as well as for the EBS tones. I actually like it... its a different touch to it than besides having a static slide that says "Emergency Broadcast System" or just a plain picture of even a civil defense logo.
