EBS Test Jingle (Generic), with edited EBS tone {1978}

  • Before the Federal Communications Commission "outlawed" this practice, many TV and radio stations - especially contemporary-music radio stations - would air a more "attractive" method of broadcasting the mandatory once-a-week test of the Emergency Broadcasting System (EBS), replaced in the 1990s by the Emergency Alert System (EAS).
    This one was created in 1978 by the Southern California radio production group named L.A. Air Force, brainchild of the late Terry Moss. This jingle was featured in the whimsically-produced 3-volume vinyl set "Cheap Radio Thrills," of which my alma-mater, San Joaquin Delta College, had this package in the early-1980s.
    Where I was raised, KOVR-TV Channel 13 in Stockton/Sacramento and a few radio stations broadcast "EBS singing jingles."
    KSFO 560 in San Francisco aired another comedic singing jingle in the early-to-mid-1970s by the veteran radio team Bob And Ray.
    Incidentally, this particular jingle differs slightly compared to the jingle provided by CZcams member CobraKing619 since 2008 (a sonovox insert is used instead of a young-sounding female singer during the second sentence following the EBS tone, and this is a "generic" jingle with no local I.D., also).
    Enjoy!

      Danny Vega Garcia-Alderete Because people in the government have no since of humor. The FCC had it outlawed to sing the Emergency broadcast system/Emergency alert system with the notion that people wouldn't take the real deal seriously.

      Well, do you think it's going to be cool if Severe Weather or Nuclear Holocaust destroys everyone around you including yourself and everything that you worked hard for in its aftermath? And all because of a jingle rather than the attention signal to alert you? My Friend, The Emergency Broadcast System, Emergency Alert System, and Emergency Alert Notification ARE NOT Musicboxes nor are they Jukeboxes. They are an ALARM that ALERTS and NOTIFIES the general public to PREPARE and take ACTION. And it was designed by the FCC, the NAB, and FEMA to have that tone. The jingle will not save lives or property but the attention signal does.

      @@RaptorOfTheWest Oh and RaptorOfTheWest, it's NOT a matter of whether the Government has a sense of humor or not. It's all about SAFETY. And what they DON'T want is to have a massive casualty list of lives that have been claimed by disaster all because people's taste of a jingle rather than a attention signal alerting them.

    Actually, although L.A. Air Force's "Cheap Radio Thrills" package did feature what became the best-known "singing EBS test" (to which the Federal Communications Commission responded by banning all singing test versions), the audio that accompanies this video is not the Cheap Radio Thrills version.

    Oh man! Whats really funny is that the band Negitiveland which was known to use clips and other copyright shenanigans, like naming an Album 'U2' in the actual bands font, making it seem like a U2 album, used this clip in their song 'New Management' which has been automatically LICENSED by their label and you can see it on here if you click on the description of the video!
    Irony is thick!
    I bet Negetiveland would find this funny if they knew.
