Bowser’s Fury - Nintendo’s Groundbreaking Experiment.

- Bowser’s Fury is a really fascinating experimental game. Not only is Bowser’s Fury a ton of fun to play through, but the game actually manages to solve a several decades old problem of the Super Mario Series. Bowser’s Fury finally solves the 3D Mario paradox, that Nintendo has been struggling with for decades. In this video we are going to take a look at the 3D Super Mario paradox, at how Bowser’S Fury solves it, and what all of this means for the future of Super Mario.

Doug Bowser: But we already had cats in the last one.
Miyamoto: Yes, but what if _everything_ was a cat?

Looking back, it feels like Odyssey's Lost Kingdom was sort of a stepping stone to Bowser's Fury. Lost is one of the only kingdoms with tons of tight and linear platforming challenges woven into the world design, and it really stood out against some of the more casual open world kingdoms like Sand or Metro.
Lost Kingdom could have literally been an island in Bowser's Fury if you just replaced the poison surrounding the island with regular water and placed it in Lake Lapcat.
This game was an experiment. 3D world was a whole new type of 3D Mario and they continued the science with bowsers fury. They both created some really good Mario games. I think it was a success!
3D Land: ):
@Goomboom I grew up playing galaxy at home and 3d land in the go. Seeing people forget about it and claiming that 3d world was a new innovation of regular 3d mario's even thought 3d land came first makes me sad.
I dont think it was an experiment. They made Bowsers Fury so they could sell 3D World again to the players who already played it before and Bowsers Fury was way too short :(

I thought nintendo with 2D mario was "aight do it yourself" and just leaved everything in Mario Maker so there will be enough levels to play, as creativity the people of the whole world has, and thus they didn't need to make a 2D mario again.
I think that is their mentality, people seem tired of them making 2D Mario games, so they just gave them MM2 and said "Go nuts" making it seem that they won't be touching 2D Mario again for a bit.
Well MM2 did have Story Mode so its possible that in future, Nintendo completely merges 2D Mario with Mario Maker series.
I think they also don't want to cannibalize their own property, Nintendo is pretty big about that. Maker is what's shown to sell 2D marios these days, so maker is 2D mario.
You can't rely on Mario maker all the time for 2D mario levels. Nintendo could even be working on a new 2D mario now; who knows what's next

But actually, paper mario is only a spinoff, it won't count. Only the genuine 2D and 3D marios are taken into account
Paper Mario is a different Mario, that is evident from Mario and Luigi: Paper Jam where we see both Mario and Paper Mario. But yeah, I agree that it does manage to mix the 2 and 3 dimensions

I think that out of all the games I've played, the Galaxy games had the best movement. I really want to see Nintendo do more releases like this. Take an old classic, and make a new, more experimental title using the existing assets, and release it as a pack. I got Mario Maker 2 less than a month ago and I've already seen so many ideas from the community that you would never see in a traditional 2D mario game. Puzzle levels, troll levels, co-op levels, kaizo levels are things you can pretty much only get from the community and it makes you realize Nintendo only scratches the surface of the possibilities of 2D mario in their game, but I think they have no other option but to play safe when they want to appeal to a big audience.
The framerate thing was only a problem for me in handheld mode. I don’t remember any dips in tv mode, but in handheld mode you got 20fps at best
Weird, it lags more in TV for me. I never lose any frames with handheld.
the framerate is horrid when the bowser goes rawr

I enjoy romhacks
I still enjoy it, I just don't think it's as polished as the 2D titles like B2W2 or (in my opinion the most overrated 2D Pokemon) Platinum.
@@thegreatestdane8978 I agree that sun and moon kinda sucked, one of the more boring games. Although I enjoyed pokemon sword and shield a lot, I think it needs "side areas" to spice up the adventure, something like the dreamyard in b/w or the mansion near the start of x/y. I LOVED the sw/sh DLC, with crown tundra being my fav. Being able to explore a giant wild area with very little other than my curiosity to make me explore was a breath of fresh air from most of the isle of armor's fetch questing. This also solves my issue with "side areas" because if you wander off through the cave for example you just end up at a dead end with the temple for the new regis.

The remakes of mario RPGs
Ex: superstar saga, bowser inside story
The saddest thing about Bowser’s Furry is that I think that it means that we won’t get another full 3D Mario experience for quite some time from now.
Doubtful, it wasn’t even big enough to get its own game, it likely wasn’t that much work to put together either since it reuses so much
@@bigflx2754 But not only did we get Bowser's Furry, but 4 other 3D Mario game remasters in the span of just a few months. It's giving me the impression that Nintendo's next big Mario game isn't coming for awhile and these are just appetizers.
@@nickk3077 those were not remasters lmao those were roms running on an emulator. Remember this was an anniversary thing, thats why there was extra Mario, but all the Mario they gave out was low effort. It’s been 3 years since the last new 3dmario. It usually takes 3-4 years for a new 3D Mario. We’re due I don’t think there will be one in 2021 but in 2022 or 2023 for sure we’ll see a new one
like you said, Bowser's Furry seems to be an appetizer, but the full meal can still arrive soon. I think Bowser's Furry might be like MGSV: Ground Zeroes - a solid, fun, but short experience that transitions a franchise into a more open world format. Hopefully, the next Mario game will be like The Phantom Pain - fully openworld, fixing the issues of the Bowser's Fury, and containing a much long and even more enjoyable experience.
edit: i actually watched the video and nevermind lol

I found Bowser's Fury far more fascinating than I had expected to. It is simultaneously strongly a sequel to 3D World (in fact, it is kind of a sequel to a specific item, the cat suit, in 3D World), while also obviously being a spiritual successor to Super Mario Sunshine, as we see with the use of Shines for (I believe) the first time since Sunshine.
This video really helps explain in what ways it was a successor to both 3D World and Sunshine at a gameplay level as well!

Dunno what he meant, but for me I take issue with enemies just standing still or just patroling areas you can avoid, collectibles feeling kinda meh, areas being designed for one power-up only, not having a good replacement for extra lives (no the odyssey system wasn't that good) or not properly balancing the extra life-system, having the difficulty on certain areas being centered on "don't fall or you will have to climb up again!" stuff etc.
Dull challenges, repeated challenges, repeated boss fights, easy boss fights, and lag
WE ARE NOT TALKING IT TODAY
pretty sure he was referring to stuff like how nintendo shuts down their fanbase when they try to do something with their game (such as with the smash tournament a while back) and their vicious stance on bugs (the way they likely messed up the catsuit in SMM2 by changing the way it works, to combat the possibility of the momentum bug with it in 3D land(or was it world? never played em))
@@DarkZide8 Odyssey System made sense in Odyssey where there was actual uses for Coins, and you could easily slip up and die a whole lot. All that lead to a kind of meaningful punishment. It means if you mess up a bunch you'll just have to spend a little extra time to get that Bone Mario or whatever you're looking forward to.
It just doesn't work in Bowsers Fury because
1. You've got so many powerups that you basically never die at all
2. Because you die so rarely and get so many coins, you will never end up in a situation where you're tight on coins so there'S no point where having a coin penalty in place is relevant
3. Coins don't matter anyway there's like 0 uses for them

idea: a Mario exploration game but you have a "dimension transporter" where you can take shortcuts by going through new dimensions. The dimensions will be platforming challenges with cool gimmicks (for example in one dimension it could be a platforming challenge, but you can reverse time around you, or maybe a 2d dimension with a small boss battle ) But instead of going through dimensions to take a shortcut the star/ moon / whatever. You also have to option to explore and find it normally like in odyssey. This idea also gives Nintendo to option to have much more unique level designs and adds replayability to the game because you can explore the levels you took the shortcut in and you can take the shortcuts through levels you already explored.
