This is the 4th update to this video. Now pointing out that 2013 and newer vehicles, there may not be a standalone address 53 control module, the function of EPB can be handled by address 03 ABS brakes.

i bought my vcds around 2015 from gendan in the uk when i had a mk4 golf gti....loved the car and thought id stay with the vag group....then bought two fords lol..but back to my vws again......today is actually the first time ive used it proper.....got a mk7 golf now and fitted new rear pads...it updated newer firmware when i plugged it in the car....i used youtube vids as a how too....worked great....took it for a test drive and all good,well happy....
oh one thing with mine.....i think it said not running.....i looked online and it said click stop....i did...and exited vcds..did the brakes then re did the vcds and think it said running then it said finished correctly...basically it was a bit different to this guide but not much

can you tell me why after performing function test the left motor shows a current draw of .133 amps

Basic settings - 04
Start lining change mode
Go!
You’ll hear the calipers doing their thing
Same process after work carried out.
Select End lining change mode instead of Start lining change mode.
Remember to wait 30 seconds after you hear electric motors stop

Thanks for the video! I got one question; you are already taking the key out and closing the vcds, no key in the ignition. So why would we need to have a battery charger connected to the battery? as there is no component needing some voltage...Thanks for the reply in advance!

You may got a weak battery,and since retracting the pistons with electric motors it may discharge the battery a bit.
It may not be 100% mandatory on some cars,but they highly suggest this,so you don't run over problems with the epb module.

So what exactly gets damaged if one doesn't follow the recommendations? The VAGCOM or the EPB Module?
The EPB mechs on the calipers or the EPB control module. These items do not take kindly to low voltage operation.
what about 2020- vag vehicles it seems only the dealer tool can rewind the calipers...
Some of the newest generation of vehicles are locked down with "SFD". While VCDS can be used to submit the tokens to unlock SFD, Ross-Tech has no means to get the tokens. We are working to have an official solution so that our customers can get the SFD tokens, but no release date at this time.
All this shit for something that worked fine for decades. A SIMPLE HANDLE AND CABLE APPLYING REAR BRAKES ,,,,FOR FUCK SAKE!!!!
I welcome the change to EPB. No more replacing rear calipers because the E brake mechanism seal has failed and its stuck on.
I have a 2018 Audi s4 and when I click on 53 parking brake it says “no response from controller” not sure why need help?
