How to install a Nextbase dashcam with tidy clean-look hidden wires. How to fit hardwire kit.

- In this video I show you how to install a Nextbase 522GW dashcam. I installed this one into my Land Rover Discovery 3 / LR3.
I chose to hardwire the dashcam into the main fuseboard, which fitting was surprisingly easy using the official Nextbase hardwire kit. It gave a clean look with all wires fully hidden from view.

You explained it well , better than some other videos I have seen. I may well give it ago. Brought a hardwire kit sometime ago for my nextbase. Now I know what to do.

Just to make one point and that is about the fuse rating to be chosen to piggyback onto. If you fit the fuse adaptor in the right way round the accessory being connected does not draw power through the original fuse, if installed the wrong way round it will. When the circuit is chosen turn the car on and make sure the device in question is working, then remove the fuse and check that it no longer works.
Install the fuse adaptor with only the accessory fuse installed and check if there is 12v on the flying lead that will go to the accessory. If there is power then it is the right way round, if not then pull it out and test with it plugged in the other way round. Then you can install the donor fuse back in the socket nearest the fuse board to make sure the vehicle works as necessary.

Thank you for the video, it really helped. The only change I made to your procedure was to feed the camera cable from the fuse box, then up the A pillar, leaving the power cable at the bottom of the fuse box cavity. Plenty of camera cable to allow this method. I drilled a small hole near to the bonnet latch to fix the earth cable to a self-tapping screw.
Thats a good idea, I realised afterward that I had too much cable to spare. I should have left all the spare in the fusebox, or better still I could have cut a large length out and soldered it back together.

@@WeekendWarrior-Official I have the nextbase 622GW cam using the cig lighter, I have astra there are 2 fuse box 1 at engine side 1 in the boot. Do I have to use the 1 in boot or is there another 1 near the glove compartment?
There's often just one inside the car and one in the engine bay, so you may have to use the one from the boot.

A guide wire pushed through into the fuse box would have allowed you to stash the excess behind the glove box.
Interesting video. Just one question is the place where you have the camera fitted on screen legal? It seems quite hit and miss where you can fix it. If uts in wrong place you could get fined and your card would fail MOT.
All good here, in clear view of thebroad but not hindering the drivers view. Passed the MOT no problem!
question, can you plug that cable in the first available spot in the fuse box instead of removing fuse nr 36?
Hi Sebastian.
You should be able to pop this into any appropriate fuse slot - switched if you need to or a permanent Live if you want it to. I chose this one as it was the right ampage and switched.

Only 30 seconds in and I see a massive problem. Putting it there will be useless in bad weather as the wipers do not clean that area , lower or the left side of the rearview mirror would be far better ...
Thank you for your concern but actually the wipers do cover this area and I get perfect clarity. :-)
Forget install hard wire cos if you buy other car then u have to take off so make easy install and plug into cig socket that how I do that.. it very easy to setup hidden cable but place camera behind the mirror not the driver area
YOUR camera cannot be where you have it it needs to be on the passenger side of the mirror that came from a traffic police officer so beware
Thanks for the feedback Andy, do you know the reason why? Perhaps they don't want the view of the driver obstructed, but in this case it is quite a large windscreen.
It cannot be in a position where the driver can view the screen while the vehicle is in motion. So if you put it on the other side of the mirror the screen needs to be turned away from the driver. The same thing applies to HGV and Psv vehicles and they have far bigger windscreens than your cars has. I know this sounds daft as you can view a sat-nav screen while you are driving even the satnav has to be down low on your off side in the uk. Very easy to check just ask the police for the legislation on this that is what I did. Legislation indicates it is better placed in a low down position either on the centre of the screen or at the extreme right down low on the screen.
